Spending Christmas at a hotel can be awkward but honestly the staff really made it memorable. We loved the decor and warmth. This is def a family friendly environment and we felt very welcomed. The daily breakfasts were well kept and a great variety. My kids enjoyed the waffle maker. The rooms are a good size and the kitchens are really well stocked with basic accessories for a longer stay. A little confused why the shower didn't have a door ‍ Also we enjoyed the pool and gym! Well maintained! Shout out to Mike at the front desk for going above and beyond.

Staff is super friendly and it feels very safe. The location is great, off of the hwy, although you cannot hear it at all in your room. It is about 15 minutes to both Nokomis Beach and Venice Beach. About 10 minutes to downtown Venice. Publix is 5 minutes away and a bunch of fast food places are within walking distance. I felt very comfy here and I would stay here again. There is also a lake out back and you can get a room with a lake view, which is a nice touch.

An excellent beachfront getaway…read more On The Beach is literally on the beach. The small cottage-style rooms are within 200 feet of the ocean, but secluded behind palm trees, so neighboring properties do not distract. The rooms themselves are very clean and modern. Simple, but just right. Every room has a fridge, microwave and "kitchen" sink, so it's accommodating for an extended stay. Just note that the fridge is small, so groceries will need to be limited. The bed was very comfortable with tons of pillows. The walk-in shower looked like it was brand new. Plenty of hot water and water pressure to clean off after a day on the beach. To get to the beach, you walk down a short trail that's surrounded by bushes and flowers. The sand is a mixture of white sand and shells. Lounge chairs are provided, in addition to beach towels. If you want a larger, busier beach, take a short walk south and you'll end up at Nokomis Beach. Walk north and you can go for miles without seeing many people at all. That is also a great route if you are looking to collect shells. After your beach day is over, there is a small outdoor shower by the property to rinse off. Each room also has a couple of chairs outside, so you can air dry, if you prefer, before going back inside. The staff (housekeeping and management) have relatively short hours, so you may need to contact the parent property (Bentley Boutique Hotel) to check-in, or if you need other assistance outside of 10:30-5. In terms of a value, find a deal through a 3rd party booker or take advantage of an On The Beach special - either way, I doubt you will be able to find a better beach stay for such an affordable price. The area itself is relatively quiet, but there are a few restaurants within 5-10 minutes. If you need heavier shopping, head north about 20 minutes to hit the city area. Siesta Key is also just over 30 minutes away, depending on traffic. I highly recommend On The Beach and I'll be back the next time I want a beach getaway!

We rent out three rooms at a time for my sister, parents and us. You're on the beach so there's not much of a walk, so that's great. But the rooms my family and I have rented have not been very nice. We usually rent the same rooms every year and every year we tell the office the same things- a roach problem in one room and another that needs some updating/repairs...the tub is always rusted out with paint chipping off in layers. The last time we stayed there we checked in and the room smelled like cigarettes (it's a non smoking room). I later saw a member of the cleaning staff smoking a cigarette while she was working so that's probably what happened. Not cool, especially for people who may have allergies/asthma. Also every year, the sheets in our room never seemed clean. They were gritty (understandable bc sand is crazy hard to get rid of) but when I spent my own money to take the sheets and wash them myself, there was no grittiness left behind, which makes me wonder if they washed the sheets at all. Under our bed was trash (candy wrappers and a water bottle) from other renters, and without fail, tons of dust bunnies and hair. The ceiling fans also never seem to be dusted. We also had a dirty ice tray in the freezer (like soda had spilled in it and it didn't get rinsed out) and the dishes in the cabinets are always wet with yellowish water from being washed and put away wet. We also booked back when there was an issue with red tide and were told we couldn't move our dates and had to lose our deposit if we were to cancel. That's fine, as it's stated in the fine print. But we found out by speaking to other families that week that others were able to get a refund. It would have been nice if they had considered how often we stay there. Every time we check out, they ask how our stay was and we always let them know what we were disappointed with/happy with. But nothing ever changes. Next vacation will be somewhere else...we've tried them three years in a row, each time hopeful that they've made changes and repairs, but it never works out that way and we end up disappointed. It's really unfortunate because it's a great spot and the pricing is decent. It could be so great with a little time and renovating, and a more thorough cleaning staff.

Breakfast and other amenities are located within the Bentley building. We stayed here for a couple of nights this weekend and have mixed feelings about the place. On one hand, you get an absolutely huge room that has a modern and clean look. On the other hand, there's an outside door to each room which feels like a motel, and not as secure. The room has a fridge, an HD TV that should be much bigger for the size of room, Keurig coffee brewer, mini fridge with tiny freezer, and a huge walk in shower. While sleeping on our final night, we were disturbed by our electronic door lock clicking away, as if someone was trying to enter, it was really freaky. Perhaps an electronic glitch. They provide you with breakfast coupons for their breakfast room in the Bentley Hotel, though we never tried it out. I heard it was pretty good from other guests. There's an indoor hallway within the Virage building that has fitness machines, though it was out of service while we were there. What I really didn't like was that the property had outdoor cigarette ashtrays near the room doors which encouraged guests to smoke near the building, creating clouds of smoke. They should instead have put these ashtrays in a designated smoking area further away from the main building.

He sold it a couple of years ago to the current owners, Brady and Reny Quick. The pros are the location, the pool, the keyless entry and Reny's perfection. I stayed in the "Sea Turtle" which was very quaint, however, you could annoyingly hear the people next door and the traffic in front. There are three fire alarms, one is covered by a light fixture above the oven. Unfortunately the use of the oven causes the alarms to go off... alot. This past year the musty and moldy smell was overwhelming. All this, in addition to the huge price increases, made my decision to leave easier. At first the owners were talking about putting two container homes in the back and rumor had it that they would be taking the option to have pets away, as well as, opening a store in the back area to sell t-shirts and whatnot. Over the past year they have been trying to sell the entire property, and therefore, very little updates, as well as, items that needed fixing were done. My last thought is that Brady tends to exaggerate items, for example, he states on the website that a gym and spa are available which they are not.

We stayed 1 week and the staff & location made it a great stay but when we decided to extend our vacation we chose another resort on Manasota Key. This would be a great place but needs a complete gut & redo of interior.

Not much to do in Charlotte Bay or Punta Gorda, but it was peaceful. Upside, pool table on pool deck. Downside, pool table is threadbare and torn. The unit was comfortable, clean and nicely furnished, but there was a TV cable stretched across the living room wall. Check in was quick but staff gave us no information about unit or the area. Staff on duty next day very friendly and gave us good info. So, with the problem issues mentioned, we still give it 4 stars.. Realistically, it is a 3 star resort, but the location and the pool will bring us back someday.
