Initially, the hotel customer service was TERRIBLE. The last 2 stays have given me nothing but billing issues. They billed my stay in May to work, which they were not supposed to do. I had to call later and have them change the billing. For this trip, they billed me as a no-show/no-call even though I called. They claim I never called. So long story short and after many phone calls .... they did at least refund 1/2 of the no-show/no-call fee. Total runaround between them and Booking.com. Of course, I also had to deal with the facility saying Booking.com bills you and Booking.com saying- no the facility will bill you. I've never had this issue before, but they were at least eventually reasonable about it. I have to stay here a few times a year for work but you can be sure they will bill any future stays before I leave with a receipt in hand. I will also NOT be using Booking.com in the future. read more

The Holidome! I stayed here at the very start of my wedding weekend when I found out a flock of bridesmaids was about to descend upon my apartment in KC. I figured it wouldn't hurt to get over to Lawrence in the fall for a little fresh air, Freestate beers and to get some errands done before staying in downtown Lawrence for the rest of the weekend. I have to say, the staff here was very nice. They let me do an early check in, let me pick what floor I wanted to go on, and were just all around conversational. I do have a gripe with the hotel on the whole when I was shopping around 6 months prior for different wedding block rates. They told me the hotel was completely booked and wouldn't work with me at all. When I arrived that weekend, the guy behind the desk told me it was looking like one of their slowest weekends of the year.. I probably wouldn't have secured a block for my out of town guests here but I did feel like mentioning this because it was a frustrating process to hear all the hotels were supposedly booked six months in advance when they obviously weren't. Anyways, back to the hotel. The pool and hot tub area here are smack dab in the middle of the lobby at the hotel. It's pretty weird, to be honest but kind of funny. My room was nice and clean and even though I was wrapped around on the side of the building there was still an entrance/exit that made it easy to come and go. Also, a small liquor store just footsteps from my room! While not downtown, it's a quick uber ride over that way and the price of the hotel rooms itself balances out any extra charges like a cab ride. Recommended if you're passing through or looking for a solid hotel that does what it's supposed to do, without blowing your socks off. read more

Definitely didn't used to be a Holiday Inn. Definitely didn't spend a ton of money renovating it. It is what it is... a cheap hotel close to KU and nothing else. With a pretty bad restaurant inside of it. But seriously, you're just here to sleep, so it's fine. You won't be skeeved out, you won't be disgusted. You'll just have a really low shower head without much pressure, an okay mattress with sub-par pillows, and a design that wasn't even that aesthetically pleasing in the seventies, whatever you think about the seventies. But it'll do in a pinch. read more

This isn't your typical Holiday Inn and it has been remodeled and has really come a long way from what it used to be. A quick rundown of the pros/cons of this place: Pros: -Indoor pool/hottub -Great staff and housekeeping -Good breakfast options in the hotel restaurant -Soft and firm pillow options -Quiet hotel in general Cons: -No mini fridge in room -Pathetic gym with no ventilation. 2 treadmills, 2 elliptical and 4 weight machines. That's it. -Location is isolated - you'll need a car to get anywhere as there's not much in walking distance. -No more mini golf so find your own entertainment -Walls are thin so although it's a quiet hotel, you can hear everything that's going on nextdoor/upstairs. Also, if you stay in a room around the pool be sure to prepare yourself for screaming kids Lastly, I wish they had another option for morning papers aside from USA Today. Bottom line, I stayed here for a conference and probably wouldn't stay here otherwise. A-OK is the perfect description of this place. The staff is absolutely WONDERFUL - especially the lovely young gal working the front desk that put up with my changing a set of 3 rooms several times... not because I'm particularly annoying, but actually because the rooms we were given (1) wouldn't open even with a key re-set, and (4!!) were room switches because they inexplicable smelled like smoke. Well, worse than smoke -- they smelled like a mess of stale smoke mixed with nose-burning chemicals. Odd especially considering this is a non-smoking hotel. Once switched, all was well, however. Free papers up front, a great bartender near closing time who happily handed over wine glasses and opened a bottle of chard for us, and the pool/recreation area in the middle of the hotel was closed appropriately and plenty quiet to allow easy sleeping. Rooms were all clean, well-appointed, EXCEPT there are no computer chairs for the desks. That pretty much knocks this place right out of contention as a business-friendly hotel. As a weekend warrior worker, I found this most annoying and unforgivable. read more

I'm surprised that this place doesn't have more reviews, considering the amount of people who stay at this hotel for the Summer Institutes in Statistics through the University of Kansas. I think our opinions are helpful for people staying here for other reasons too! The best thing about this hotel is the staff. Housekeeping was great, taking really good care of me (especially when they took the "firm" and "soft" tags off of the pillows since I didn't know you could do that). The staff for the breakfast buffet were extremely kind and helpful, always smiling and sweet. Both of these things meant a lot for me as I was there by myself for my course. It's nice to feel welcome. Speaking of, the breakfast buffet is pretty good with lots of food choices, like scrambled eggs, quiche, bacon, french toast, muffins, cereal, etc. It tends to change every day but with some main staples. It also had fresh fruit and yogurt, but those are healthy so of course I didn't partake. The coffee was also delicious. Though it is somewhat expensive at $9 (including drinks) so I don't know if I would have gone if it wasn't included in our stay for stats camp. I only ate at the bar once, but the food selection was pretty good and prices were quite reasonable. USA Today was slipped under the door every morning before I woke up. Though it always seems to be FREEZING in the lobby and when I first got into my room. I think it's just something about people in Kansas, as even our shuttle from the airport had the AC on even though it was 55 degrees outside. I like the rooms, they were cozy and nice for the price. Another reviewer mentioned that there were no chairs for the desks -- that's changed; my room had a desk chair. There were outlets by the desk but not by the bed, which is a bummer for someone as lazy as me. I think I would also have appreciated mini fridges or microwaves in the room, one or the other. read more

I was here three days for a conference, which was held at this Holidome since they have a conference center with several rooms. While they seemed equipt for holding conferences, the hotel itself wasn't much to speak of. This is the first year the conference was being held at the Holidome in Lawrence, KS - and I heard that it had been booked there because the Holidome had boasted they had renovated the hotel. I'd never been there before, but it surely didn't seem more than a 2/3-star hotel. They had a small mini-golf area in the lobby of the hotel (there were maybe 8 holes), a swimming pool, and a hot tub. What an ODD place for a swimming pool! It was surrounded on 3 sides by 4 floors of balcolny windows of hotel rooms... very, very odd. My colleagues and I each had our own room. Mine was OK - although the entry light was burnt out when I got in, the staff ended up replacing it the next day. Two other people in my group had rooms that smelled downright musty! It smelled like a combination of stale cigarette smoke and something else... but definitely not pleasant to breathe in! One other had a room right next to the pop machine and ice machine - she was kept up at night by the sound of the ice machine making ice. Most of the staff we encountered at the front desk were nice and willing to offer us directions to get to landmarks in the area; however, not all staff seemed to have the same knowledge. For example, another conference attendee recommended a restaurant that we ended up wanting to try. We were also going to go to the casino after our day was over, so a young man at the hotel desk gave us directions: the restaurant was supposedly 3 miles from the casino. After getting lost using the directions and having to call the restaurant to see where they were located, we ended up learning that the restaurant was AT the casino. Finally, on the last day there were serveral people checking out at the same time: at one point, the line was 6-8 people deep. There was only ONE person at the front desk to assist all of those people. I think they should have staffed the front desk in a way to accommodate the large numbers of the conference attendees who were scheduled to be checking out that day. The last drawback was the absence of a continental breakfast. The hotel provided a paid breakfast and breakfast buffet, which depending on what you ordered, ranged from $7 to $10+. One of my colleagues purchased a bagel + cream cheese on the go and paid $3.50, all for it to be stale. Finally, they offered Pay-Per-View movies, which ranged from $10-$20. $20?! It was way too easy to order a movie - as adults, we were browsing through the selections and accidentally ordered one by hitting the wrong button. After we hit the button, it didn't ask you, "Are you sure you want to purchase this?" as it would if you were at home. We frantically figured out how to freeze it before it started and called the front desk to tell them of the error. My colleague was on hold for 5+ minutes straight, when she ended up hanging up and calling back. The girl answered right away (so she must have forgotten my colleague was on hold) and said they would remove it from our bill (which they didn't by the time we checked out). I'd imagine they'd get such calls a lot, especially from families of children. It was FAR too easy to order a movie and not know that you were doing so until it was too late! (Then again, I'm sure that's quite the money maker.) The upside is that they have Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, and also have two computers available in the lobby area. You can print (within a reasonable amount) from the computers to the front desk without being charged. Next to the hotel there is a gas station and a liquor store, complete with bars on the windows (eek)! We saw a small charcoal grill on the side of the building at the liquor store... so I wonder who's hanging around there grilling things (perhaps the transients we saw getting frisked in downtown Lawrence?). Nothing else is in walking distance, though - you need a car or a cab to get anywhere. All in all, it was sufficient for its purpose, but at $80/night, I think they need to work on their ventilation system and/or remodeling so that the rooms don't smell so musty. read more

Our first night the AC was out and the Rick, the awesome maintenance man, came within 5 minutes and had us relocated to a new room! We even got upgraded to a pool view! The beds are really comfortable and clean! The hotel was also really quiet and comforting! The downstairs restaurant was a bit hectic during breakfast hours and wish they would just do a breakfast buffet. Overall this was a great stay! We would definitely stay again! read more

Have stayed here twice for weddings. Didn't have any issues either time and the rooms were clean and quiet. The location is perfect for me since its near i70 and I live in Kansas City. I will continue to stay at this hotel and recommend it to others as often as I need to. read more

Three stars is too many. Two is too few. I'll give the benefit here because the staff was very nice given what they have to work with. They went above and beyond a number of times, including fetching some food after I missed breakfast. But the room just wasn't very clean. The morning after the first night, I realized there was some strange stain on the bottom of the comforter. It was replaced immediately, but still, that isn't right. In general the room was pretty dingy, with an old-motel smell. The TV took three or four minutes to power on after hitting the button. Also know that the restaurant downstairs is closed for most of the day, so if you're planning to hang back and rely on room service -- don't. I don't think I'd stay here again. But the staff was very nice. read more

BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!I stayed at this resort and left my pillow. I realized it a couple hours later and called them immediately. I was told they would ship it and charge me for the shipping. What I didn't expect is that they would not ship it for 3 weeks. They would write down my credit card information and give it to the UPS Store then charge me $36.73 for ground shipping. When I called the manager she informed me that it was my fault I left the pillow there and hung up on me when I stated they cannot go giving my personal credit card information to a 3rd party. I opened a case with their home office customer relations dept 800-621-0555 and had to cancel my credit card and order a new one for $7.50. read more

The hotel was ok. It seems like back in the day it was quite nice. But now very outdated. If you're on the road and need a place to rest, this is ok. Rooms are clean but have that sweet smell. Cheap TV. Can't get the thermostat to change. I would not recommend it for long stays or corpporate travelers. I gave 2 stars because it looks like the rooms are under renovation, can easily connect to free wi-fi and the front desk customer service is excellent. In general, the place has potential just needs some TLC. read more

Stayed here via hotwire as a "three star" hotel. It is not any where close to that nice. Rooms haven't been updated in some time and show stains on surfaces. The bath tub didn't even hold water. Pool was closed and there was no complimentary breakfast.....seriously? I would have been happier at a newer Super 8. The beds were comfortable but not worth the rest of the b.s. read more

It's alright. They have a pool and a mini golf coarse for the kids but the bar closes at 4pm. So if u wanna watch a game or shoot a game of pool after 4pm, u gotta go some place else. Each booth n the dinning area has a flat screen and they have a fair amount of seating. the service is good though. read more

This hotel is disgusting. The rooms smell like smoke. You can't pull the smoking sign off the door, spray some febreeze and call it a non smoking hotel. The people with positive reviews work for the company. I could almost tolerate the stench. Not having hot water is unacceptable. The lobby may have been remodeled but the rooms have not! Over all stay for one night was a 4 out of 5 based on price and experience. We were traveling through with our kids and got this hotel as a deal on Hotwire.com Based on the rooms and property needing maintenance I would say this is a 2 star hotel at best. But when you take into account the lay out of the property, the accommodating staff and the amenities which include an Indoor Pool and Jacuzzi open until 10pm, nice lobby area with TV's when I first walked in it reminded me of an old school Vegas hotel, Restaurant with full Bar open until 10pm on week nights. The night we stayed they had $1 tacos and $3 margaritas, arcade etc. My kids thought this was a resort! But kids never pay attention to detail like the ripped shower curtains, the poor patch jobs in the bathroom ceiling, the fact that the black out curtains were not connected to the end at the top so they would not stay closed all the way, the stain in the carpet etc. All in all we had a nice dinner, a nice relaxing evening, nice breakfast and a decent night sleep. We would stay here again if we needed to and found another deal on the price. read more

My wife and I stayed here last weekend while in town for our anniversary. Our previous stay here was fantastic..not so much this time. I booked the room over the phone a few days before arriving. The rep on the phone was very courteous and quoted $179 for our 2 night stay. This seemed comparable to our $88/night stay the last time we visited. We booked a holidome facing room as that's kinda the point at staying in a holidome. When we arrived we were given keys to a room that turned out to be an inside room back off in a corner. The rep fixed this and gave me my original room. The room smelled off and the floors were mildewy. We stayed our two nights and the last morning I was shocked to see the bill for $411. The front desk was less than helpful and gave me the email of the manager to contact him, which I did, and in turn HE gave me a 1-800 to call, which i did, and THEY in turn told me (quite rudely) "there's nothin we can do. sorry". Getting quoted one price then being charged double that is outrageous. The customer service is horrendous and the hallways and rooms themselves need major upkeep. Will not return to this location. Ruined my weekend. read more
