After a long hot day we returned to our room around 7:30 PM to discover the room had not been cleaned. Unmade beds, dirty towels (left on the floor per instructions posted in the bathroom!). I talked to the desk clerk who said she would talk to someone who would address the issue. About 20 minutes later a guy knocked on the door who handed me towels and sheets! Hay thanks but isn't it housekeeping's job to make the beds and clean the room? Unacceptable!!! Now why did I rate our stay 5 stars? The manager heard of our experience and took action that demonstrated why she's the manager. She sent Caylib and DeShawn to our room to make the beds and clean the bathroom! They were perfect! Understanding that things don't always go right, it's nice to know that there are people that step up and do whatever it takes to get the job done. read more

This is not a 4 star property, rather I'm rating it 4 stars for the expectations on this level. On arrival, we received a warm welcome from the staff. Our room preference (high floor/ end room) was granted - much to my husband's dismay... as he was carrying the tour back to the furthest possible point from check- eek. (We did move the bike to the other end for check-out & he was in a much better mood after that shorter trek.) The rooms were noted as renovated a few years ago. Had I not known going in, I'd have guessed 80s (as the hubby did when I asked him to date the last update). The ceiling is concrete & painted mauve, making for (much appreciated) serious noise reduction & perhaps a bit of a hospital or prison feel, if you will. The walls are a light gray, as is the furniture. The artwork (3 pictures) was oddly small (8x10) & hung oddly. They furnishings were, perhaps, excessive. To open up the space & reduce the crammed in strangely look, I'd suggest removing a couple of things. There was a wall shelf/ TV holder. Under that was a desk, literally pushed under, as was dresser. It looked as if the furniture was pushed back for cleaning, stacking it up. There was also a wardrobe, chair & table that slides over the chair (think tv tray). The room was exceprionally clean & in excellent condition. It was 3/4 bath with a large shower - no tub. The bed was comfortable & temperature control worked well. The pool & sauna are not to be missed! The location is great for accessing assorted things to do. All in all a very good stay. We simply have a different taste than the decorator did, apparently. The hotel itself is really great. Clean and comfortable. It's nearby restaurants and stores and not far from downtown. The only reason I gave this a 4-star is because of one of the front desk staff. She was too nice to where it felt like her interactions were fake. She also was not accommodating when we asked about using a space that was empty, for a meeting. We had 20 people staying there so to ask to use an empty dining room for 1/2 hour should not have been an issue. Even with that being said, I'd go back. This hotel has been around for a very long time. You get the same great IHG service, clean hotel, comfortable beds, updated rooms and common areas. It's easy enough to get to even if you're not used to Michigan left turns. All of the sights and night life Marquette has to offer, this location is close. I've stayed here 4 times in the past 6 months for football weekends at the University. They go above and beyond to provide any discounts that are available as the staff seems to continue the hospitality of the area. read more

This place needs a little love from us Yelpers. I've looked at a lot of negative comments and I can say I just haven't seen it. Overall this hotel is clean, comfortable and has great amenities. I've stayed here 4 or 5 times and have had to wait a few minutes at check in once or twice. Mostly because a number of people comming at the same time. As far as the staff, yes, they are not the most organized, but they have always been friendly. The Pool Area is huge and has a great Hot tub and Sauna. I also enjoy the Bar and Restaurant. Food is pretty good and the bar is well stocked and usually has people to talk to. I would say the only thing I find to be disappointing is the price. In summer the rooms can be over $200 (including taxes) which I think is crazy for this property. Winter prices seem to fall in line with other hotels. The other negative is the lack of a business center. All they have is 2 computers inn the lobby with no privacy. Not the best place I if you need to get some work done. WiFi in room seems to work well however. read more

Short staffed, but it's management's fault it's taking so long, not the cleaners. Drove 7 hours for this? Oof. Great staff, great hotel, great customer service. My wife and i stayed (attempted to) this saturday, we had a family emergency come up not 30 minutes after we checked in and had to leave. The staff was understanding and compassionate. We were unable to talk about any refunds or the like at the time, but i did contact the motel Monday morning, they had the file noted of what happened and they gladly arranged partial reimbursement terms that were more than favorable. Thank you so much for your understanding and willingness to accommodate. Heads up, the pictures on Yelp for this hotel are NOT of this hotel. This hotel is old and under renovation, but it must be the slowest renovation in history. When I booked, it said it was in end stages of renovation. LIES!! Nothing is renovated. Construction everywhere. Weird smell in hotel. Rooms are clean but very outdated. Like many of the reviews here, I would agree. The front desk staff and on site staff from housekeeping and maintenance to restaurant staff are all very friendly and accommodating. Great place to stay if you're traveling with your dog too. Wonderful walking trails behind the hotel. My only complaints are the beds are short and not the most comfortable (and I'm only 5"2') and while the hotel pool area is very nice and we'll kept, there was a kids bday party going on in there while we stayed. Not very relaxing when your are wanting to go for a swim or sit in the hot tub and kids are screaming or running around. I have also seen kids in there after 10 pm, supposedly adults only, but people don't seem to obey or enforce it. But overall, not a bad place to stay. Thankful this place has a Parents Club for NMU stays and the cookies and beverages to welcome NMU Families is a nice touch. read more

The location at 1951 US Hwy 41 is a out-dated design from the late 60's or early 70's. REVIEW: There may have been a day when this Holiday Inn was a top hotel in the area. Like 1983. Today it's a blemish in an otherwise beautiful city. PROS: Friendly staff. Big pool for the kiddies. CONS: It's just an old and tired property. Looks like Rocky in the 9th round. Long hallways, strange design. Rooms packed together like a Texas cattle call and the slowest elevators east of the Mississippi. Bent A/C cover falling off unit in room, shower rod and bathroom mirror slowly detaching from wall, really bad artwork. Marginal beds. No free breakfast. In-house restaurant appears amateurishly thrown together in a former meeting room. Marginal coffee in styrofoam cups. BOTTOM LINE: Unless you get a screaming deal, there are better hotels available in the area. Much better. Basically, this Holiday Inn was the equivalent of Paul Bunyan's smelly flannel shirt after a day of chopping wood. Holes and all. read more

I stay almost exclusively in Holiday Inn Properties throughout MI about 55-60 nights per year and I will say this was a mistake. I wasted my reward points on this hole, thinking it would be mic to stay in with my wife on vacation. I WAS WRONG!!!! The staff, other than the idiot night bellman, was great but the room was an F-ing oven. The a/c didn't work. Something about the unit only working fully if it was warm enough outside?!?!?! WTF? I was on the 5th floor, it gets warm no matter what the temp is outside, heat rises and there are 4 floors beneath me, moronic. In 12 hours I was able to lower the temp 3 degrees, that was it. When I called the desk to ask about it they sent up the idiot bellman who looked at the a/c and turned the switches back and forth and said "yep, not working". No f-ing kidding cupcake!!!! When I asked for a fan I was told there were none by the bellman, then after struggling from 12-5 to sleep at all I was so pissed I walked down to the desk and confronted the clerk and he called the bellman and asked the bellman if there were any fans at all, YES there was, but it was in the laundry room and it gets warm in there so he didn't want to take it from them. WHAT?!?!?! You mean I haven't been sleeping all night in my $150 room that I wasted my points on, because the laundry workers might get warm?!?!?! Never mind I am a customer, that's no big deal So finally he brings the fan up and at 5:30 am I am finally able to get some sleep I want to give it 1 star, but the clerk was really very kind to me and the place is actually in decent shape so I can't give it 1 star in good faith. Nice and accommodating friendly staff. However this is an old and worn out building. Avoid rooms on highway side due to noise. HVAC are noisy and don't work well. Some windows do not open. Only 2 elevators which is insufficient for a building this size. Some rooms are very small and don't have a desk. Beds were ok. Breakfast cafe was decent. read more

What a nightmare. I called the day after I made my reservation because my daughter came down with covid. I never received a call back or even an acknowledgment from the hotel that I had called. It called several times and left several messages for the manager. Finally on the day of check-in I changed the reservation to somebody else so they could use my hotel rooms and I would not lose out on the money. When they checked in there was an additional $25 fee per room on top of what I already paid when I booked the rooms online. On top of that we booked conjoining rooms and the rooms were nowhere near each other. These are all details we could have ironed out if the manager had called me back days before when I called. When I did speak to her she was very rude however unprofessional. She was very rude about every detail. I was already upset from her having not called me back and having to do things over the phone cuz my daughter had covid. Those very frustrating overall and I think that I will not be going back. Luckily the hotel pool was decent enough for my other daughter to enjoy. The manager here is atrocious. No wonder the holiday inn is we're getting run down. It used to be one of the nicest hotels in town but not anymore. I highly suggest you stay somewhere else. read more

Stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and I can say it's very nice and clean. However the property is still under constructions so no access to gym or fitness center at all! There is also no access to pool or sauna either so be wary and call before biking to check if construction is completed because right now it is very raw! This is a great hotel to stay at, the rooms are clean and they have a refrigerator and free wi-fi. The only way it could possibly get better is to change the lamps. The lamps have charging outlets on them, but the lamp bar only lets small adaptors plug in. I couldn't use my iPad charger. Anyway, I recommend staying here. The pool knocked off 4 stars. We stay here often because of NMU and our younger kids' winter sports. Since the renovation, we have been very disappointed. While the rooms are new and clean, they are full of large furniture and so the specious feel is not there. This location used to be dog and skier friendly, but have since changed the policy. No pets and no ski equipment allowed. I can understand the pet policy since the property is new, but being so close the Marquette Mountain and this being a ski/winter sport community, I'm shocked. They do not offer a locker or other alternatives. The staff, it seems, do not have the ability to make any decisions on their own and seem to lack knowledge of basic programs and offerings. They are always deferring answer to a higher level manager who is never around. On a positive, the water is always hot. The draft beer in the bar is always cold. Pictures posted are not updated and construction is done. Marquette is a great town and super friendly, so when the staff presents itself as inflexible and rude, look past it. We are disappointed in the new restrictions and will look at other options. read more

I would not recommend staying here. I showed up at 350pm, with a check in time of 3pm. I was told my room was not ready and it would be another 30-45 minutes. I was told to wait at the bar with my 6 month old baby and they would come get me when it was ready. An hour later i went to check on my room so i could get ready for a wedding rehearsal @6pm and was told it would be another 30 minutes. There seemed to be a lot of disorganization up front and the fact that other people were having the same problem seemed to give me the feeling that either the hotel was being managed horribly wrong or everyone was newly hired. I was able to find a place to get ready outside of the hotel, and returned after the rehearsal at 7pm to check in. At that time i was told it would be another 5-10 minutes as the room was having its final inspection!!! Needless to say, i got in my room after almost 4 hours. If you are coming to Marquette stay somewhere else , unless they have a change in their procedures/people/protocols. read more

Booked one night here for a snowmobile trip. We had a breakdown and could not make it there. Would not work with us as all on the 24 hr cancellation policy. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Everything you need and more. Recently stayed in expensive hotels in New Orleans and Washington DC that had plastic cups but good old Holiday Inn came through with real glass. (good scotch just isn't the same in plastic). We felt totally welcomed and cared for. We were attendees of a 250 guest wedding reception and were pleasantly surprised by dinner fare. Way to go folks! read more

I have stayed here 3 times in the last 2 months, and find the staff consistently friendly, the rooms clean and the property well maintained. This was my first visit where I ate (in the lounge - it was wing night!) Excellent food, and a comfortable atmosphere. I have been to better hotels, but I can't recall when.... Not very pet friendly, staff seemed annoyed that we had our dog even though we called ahead to make sure they were pet friendly. It seemed to be very noisy in the hallways, and the rooms didn't block out any of the noise. Excellent place. Restaurant / sports bar was nice, plenty of tvs and varied menu, with great service (although the chef was a little heavy handed with the salt shaker except thankfully for the grilled veggies which were healthy and perfectly grilled), food was well-prepared and tasty; we had fish n chips and loaded nachos, with onion rings for an appetizer. Room was excellent. We ended up with the 2-room suite (the only room left on a Saturday in the summer at 7pm) which was clean, comfortable and well appointed. Bed was one of the most comfortable I have found. Good selection of tv channels. Fitness room was excellent with water, towels, 4 pieces of equipment, a mat, free weights and 2 tvs. I think the hours were 6am to 11pm. Lobby was great, 2 computers for guest use. Didn't use the pool but it looked wonderful, and there were tables and chairs by the pool inside, and on a patio outside. read more
