I stayed in the Econo Lodge Lakeview for one night in September 2024, and I was surprised by how decent the hotel was consider its age, price range, and hotel category. The facilities do show their age and the room was a bit musty (I was travelling with a dog, so was in one of the rooms with direct entry to the parking lot rather than in the two-story building with the interior corridor), but everything was clean and the lake view was fantastic. The staff were friendly and efficient, and when I asked for tips about where to find trailheads and trail parking and local dog-friendly activities, I received great responses. The location on the highway is perfect if you're doing the lake route drive (as I was), although it does make it a little challenging to get over to the Iron Ore trail that's just on the other side of the highway. The guest in the room next to me wanted to cycle over and I was mildly concerned that I was about to witness an accident. That said, it's a very short drive to the Tourist Information Office's parking lot which is on the trail, which is how I ended up accessing it. The lobby has coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available all day, and the breakfast buffet was much better than most budget hotels offer. Now listen, I'm not expecting the highest quality of a stay from an Econo lodge. Although, the rooms were so very run down, hair dryer did not work, when we turned on the heat lamp it stunk up the room. Also, online it is advertised that you can pay more for a lakefront view, well you can't really see the lake as my rooms view was obstructed by a car that was parked in front of the room the entire time. Breakfast was low quality too even for an econolodge. Really wish this experience could've went better, hopefully this place gets renovated soon. read more

Let me start by saying that the staff could not be more friendly! Every time I chatted with the desk attendants they were helpful, well-informed and eager to please. I really enjoyed the conversations! The parking lot is well-lit and ample. The folks coming and going from their vehicles are friendly, too. There are folks that stay here frequently and that speaks well of the value and location. Our room was very clean. The bathroom floor was literally reflective, it was so clean and shiny! The space is bright and includes a microwave and fridge (we didn't use either, but they were there). The continental breakfast exceeded my expectations; pastries, fresh fruit, STRING CHEESE (my fave!), cereal, milk, yogurt, granola bars, super fresh coffee and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. At the price we paid, I certainly did not expect all of that. We'll be back. I hope the same folks are working at the desk so we can update them on our U.P. adventures. read more

Older hotel - somewhat clean. Our nighttime check-in person was super friendly and helpful. The morning check-out person seemed very pre-occupied and not very friendly to the guests. When e came in for breakfast there was only cold cereal. The staff member was told a couple times from guests that the warm food was gone as was the coffee. She put some things in the oven, but It took 30 minutes! It was just an ok place. read more

As someone else said, the location is fantastic. We stayed for a night last August (2022) and loved the place. Our room was terrific and all of the rooms have excellent views of the lake. (Why else are you visiting Marquette?) Our balcony was a terrific surprise. The desk was helpful and efficient and we were looking forward to a longer stay there this month. However, we were surprised to learn "pet friendly" means "no cats." Which is weird because the room next to ours, last August, had two cats, which were walked in the hallway by the owner several times. read more

Pros: Affordable, right next to the Iron Ore Trail, great shower, acceptable bed, lots of free and easy parking and outstanding personnel. Everyone we encountered was cool. Cons: Stay on the second floor because the first floor is loud. The TV is no good and the free breakfast is sparse. But if L.J. says your hot coffee will be ready for your 6:00 a.m. run on the trail, believe him. That man is dependable. You can spend twice as much to stay 2 miles closer to downtown, but I won't so you'll miss the opportunity to meet me. read more

Second floor room was dated but comfortable. It had a balcony, mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave, hair dryer, and nice flat screen TV. The view of the lake was superb, and the location is only a couple of minutes from downtown Marquette. There are 120 volt outlets available throughout the parking lot if you have an electric car or plug-in hybrid. Management is okay with people using them. Plenty of parking available for travel trailers or RVs, with outlets available for them, as well. We didn't go to the continental breakfast, but the coffee station was well stocked and the coffee was good. The hallways are dated and dark, the balcony door didn't latch properly, and the beds aren't the greatest. None of these things would stop me from coming back again, and the price is right ($114/night just after Labor Day). read more

I would have given this 1 star, but the girls working at the counter at check-in were nice and helpful. I really think the staff believes the view can make up for the complete lack of cleanliness of the room. Both my husband and I will be staying elswhere when we come to Marquette next year for the Fall Beer Festival. For example: a chunk of carpet was missing, there were cobwebs in the corners, dust everywhere, the bottom of the bathtub was sticky, the bathtub faucet wasn't working correctly, hair left in the bathroom from previous guests, and the walls had holes and dirt on them. And there was also a weird smell to the room so we left the window open while we were out the first night. I really don't expect much from a 2-star hotel, really. I just want a clean room to stay in. The fact that the room was this dirty and in so much disrepair was laughable. I honestly wondered if they were in the middle of re-modeling. Spend your money at a different hotel if you are in town. read more

My room was not clean so I checked for bedbugs and there were none the sheets seem to be very clean and laundered. As for the rest of the building top to bottom it is not being maintained and it is falling apart it may have reached the point of no return tear down and start over. read more

Good stay in a comfortable room. There was a bit of dust build up in the corners or where the cleaning crew have neglected to move end tables or night stands to get around them, but otherwise the room was clean. Continental breakfast is as expected and appears the norm these days. Slim pickings on fruit, but they have cereal, muffins, toast/English muffin, yogurt, egg type entree, and waffles. Located just outside of Marquette, yet still easy and quick to get to all places you need to go. Right on Lake Superior with easy access to the bike path if you can cross US-41 safely. I enjoyed the hospitality of the Econo Lodge intermittently for several weeks in Oct. 2006. The pros: Located close to downtown Marquette. Pet-friendly - accepted Pennydog without any ridiculously high surcharges. Low rates. Continental breakfast. Wireless internet access. Friendly, helpful staff. The cons: Older motel, and somewhat rundown. Vending machines were unreliable, and on one of my stays, the soda one was missing entirely! While CLOSE to downtown, you still have to drive to reach either it or a nearby gas station, as nothing is within walking distance. Ultimately, the worst "con" of all was that their internet access was only located in the lobby, and not in the actual rooms. This eventually forced me to leave Econo Lodge for the Ramada Inn. I would recommend these lodgings for no frills, short term guests who are looking to save money, and for whom internet access is not crucial. read more

Looks good from the outside, but when you enter it goes downhill from there.4 1) pillows were horrible 2) mattress saggy, slept very poorly 3) couldn't open the room door in the morning. It was stuck, so my husband had a yank it open for me. Would have been great in a fire situation 4) bathroom needs a full facelift. Mold on the shower grout 5) holes drilled in the dresser tops that were never filled in 6) both men's and women's rooms off the lobby had "out of order" signs hung on them. 7) the breakfast selection was absolutely meager. The staff is amazing. Always friendly and helpful. Location is close to downtown as well as several of the area hiking trails and waterfalls. We have stayed here several times and will continue to whenever we are in the area. Great for the price, even during peak travel times. While the hotel isn't the newest in the area it has renovated rooms. Great heat in the winter, cold air conditioning in the summer. Complementary breakfast has several options so there is something for everyone. Highly recommend. read more

Stayed at this motel last night. Not a pleasant experience. It was cold enough (overnight in mid 30's) that we needed heat. Bathroom had a hot water register with no heat. Main room had a wall unit that was conflicted. It would turn on run shut off for awhile and turn on again. All night long. We had it set at 68. We had the fan set to low thinking it would run at low speed continuously but it ran at low speed when it's sensor turned it on. Not sure what the auto setting did. I think outside air was seeping in from around door which also let in the highway noise of traffic, all night long. read more

Don't come here if your handicapped. They for some assinine reason in this day & age do not have a single handicap parking space anywhere. The only building out of three that has a handicap acces ramp you need to for no reason go 20 feet past the ramp to get up the only curb cut out on the property. The only handicap room #154 has a sink & toilet grab bar but no grab bar in the shower where it's really needed. You just lean into the cave in tub liner & hope you don't fall! My wife & I are both handicapped but are not prechers for handicap rights. But this place gives handicap people as little aid as they legally or should be illlegally can. read more

We stayed at this very reasonably-priced hotel in late June of 2017. I almost cancelled the reservation because I feared that, due to the low price of the room, it would be rundown or cheap, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean and spacious, the staff was charming and helpful, and the breakfast was quite tasty. Right when we came in, the girl at the front desk took out a map and told us about local hiking spots and restaurants, all of which turned out to be great places to visit. I won't hesatate to stay here again when I go back to Marquette - and I will. It's a very lovely town! read more

I would like to start off by saying the staff was helpful and friendly, but this facility is old and tired. Quite frankly it was a $59.00 a night hotel that charged $149.00 a night. We thought it would be great be listed as lakeside but it's across a 50mph 4 lane highway, so no actual way to access the lakefront I would not recommend this motel at these prices. A very pleasant surprise and a real bargain compared to what nearby hotels are charging. Rooms have been nicely renovated. Front lobby reno is still in progress. My room was clean and quiet, with good beds. Parking lot is well lit and feels safe. Check in staff was very helpful. I would definitely stay here again. My room looked out on the forest behind the hotel and was very quiet. However, some of the rooms closest to the road could get a good bit of highway noise. read more

My boyfriend and I had to stay here with our cat for a week while awaiting our closing date for our home in Marquette County. The continental breakfast was perfect for the morning and the room was comfy and clean. The bathroom was even heated, which was perfect for the wintertime! The staff were accommodating and very friendly. Katie at the front desk helped us reserve our room and helped with anything we needed. She was very friendly and knowledgeable. OK. So, the rooms seemed clean and are smaller. It's also lacking a mini fridge and microwave like many hotels, so make sure you clean your plate when you go out to eat, otherwise you will be wasting your food. The door is a bit higher than the sidewalk, yet it blends in, which caused my fiance to trip. He literally fell at first sight. My friend who came to pick us up did the same thing. So, if you are staying on the right side of the lobby, make sure you watch your step. A bit of an update since the last review, there is now wi-fi in the rooms. Yay! The A/C is pretty close to the bed since it is a small room and it's a bit much when it's on and blowing in your face (thankfully I called dibs on the opposite side, even though it's not much better). Not far from downtown though. That's a plus. One more downside were the earwigs. Pretty sure they were coming from the sink...and we killed several. read more

Management is not guest friendly. I clicked on the wrong month when making my reservation. I called the motel immediately and made a reservation for the correct date although at almost three times the original price (they really gouge you on dog sled race week-end and require two night stay). Hotel staff told me to call Choice Hotels Guest Relations to cancel my incorrect reservation which I did. Guest Relations staff saw it was an honest mistake but said the motel general manager had to cancel it. He/she refused to do so. Said this was their policy. read more

5 Star Value***** late January 2018 Happened to be passing thru on snowmobile trail 417 Marquette, and glad I decided to stop. I asked the room rate, viewed a room, and stayed. New Family owners make every effort to ensure a great stay. Girls at the counter were very helpful and knowledgeable about local area attractions and neighboring towns. What I liked: Close to downtown Marquette, without being downtown. Close to Ski slope, Casino, biking/hiking trails, pet friendly, snowmobile friendly located on trail 417. Very scenic panoramic view of Lake Superior. Large clean updated room seemed new, or newly remodeled, and at a great price. Very comfortable beds, each with 4 pillows, and I was out like a light. I never need an alarm clock, but here I overslept by 2 hours, (but hey, it's vacation) and wished my bed at home was this good. New flat screen TV with cable channels. Fast Wi-Fi in rooms. Multi-port electric plugins right on nightstand, with plenty of outlets, and USB ports for charging. Mini fridge, microwave, hair dryer, coffee maker, table with chairs. Vanity area with sink, nice bathroom with great shower. Heat/AC with digital temp control and selectable fan speed worked great for me. Continental breakfast was good, waffles, cereal, eggs, sausage, bagels/toast, oatmeal, milk, juice, coffee. (probably missed a few things) all while having a panoramic view of lake Superior. What I disliked: none really, but if i had to nitpick, it's that I took 10 minutes trying to think of something I disliked. Maybe... you have to walk across the road to get to the lake, might be an issue for some families with small children??? After a long day of traveling, we were looking for a room out of the city and where I could see the lake. When we read the reviews, we were rather apprehensive. We were tired and were afraid we had run out of choices and decided we would see if any rooms were available. There weren't many, but we got a balcony room. What a surprise. yes, the place is somewhat dated, but it was clean , the view was great, and the front desk clerks were friendly and helpful. The room is very large and my favorite thing is that it had a sink in the bathroom and one outside so two people could get ready at once. For the price, it was great! read more

(January 2015) The front desk is very friendly and when we called the day before they warned us m28 was closed due to snow and they said to call back tomorrow and we will tell you if it's open or not and if not we can give you directions. They upgraded us to the lake view for free when we signed up for the rewards program. The room has fast wifi, a mini fridge, microwave, sink in the bathroom and outside of the bathroom with mirrors, comfortable beds, nice new 32" LED tv, recently renovated rooms, sliding door for the Balcony view of Lake Superior, very clean rooms, a good smell in the room, the rooms have a entertainment dresser, night stand, table and chairs, and plenty of lights. They have a good complementary breakfast also. The down side is you have to go to the lobby for ice and there is no elevator, but hey you can't complain to much lol. I would defiantly stay here again and I make many trips to Marquette. Also, it's real close to Marquette. It was a nice room for $64/night. I did the hotel impossible inspection in the room and everything was clean. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Marquette read more

It's what you would expect, staying at an Econo Lodge. The fact that it's right on Lake Superior is nice (despite the lack of beach access), and the rooms are quite spacious. The TVs are old, and our room smelled a little musty, but it was quiet and clean. We had a cat with us, so there was a pet fee added to the already too-high nightly rate, but it was still the least pricey option near Marquette that allowed cats. (We had originally made reservations with the Super 8 downtown, but they turned us away because we had a cat, despite the hotel being listed on their website as "pet friendly"...) read more
