I've been to Holiday Spa before and have always understood what it is -- not a luxury spa, but a place that can work when you're just looking for an affordable massage. Because of that, I felt comfortable referring a family member to give it a try a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, her experience was disappointing and honestly concerning. While her massage itself was already less than stellar, the situation at the end was what really crossed the line. She tipped her masseuse, Nancy, $10 -- which she felt was appropriate based on the service she received. Instead of accepting it, Nancy became visibly upset and began demanding more money, creating a very uncomfortable and unprofessional scene. My family member tried to calmly explain her reasoning, but Nancy continued to insist, and the situation escalated to the point where additional money was given just to diffuse the confrontation. Tipping should always be based on the quality of service and given voluntarily. It should never be demanded or coerced. That kind of behavior is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the business as a whole. I'm sharing this not to attack, but to highlight an experience that needs attention. I had one "professional" massage before this and it was awful. That was over 10 years ago. It was that bad. I did not feel good at all after that 1st experience & wanted to forget it happened. I'm so glad my friend talked me into giving this spot a go. The woman I had was incredible. She asked if I would like to add on the hot stones & I was glad I did. After all the work she did on my back, they felt amazing. She asked if I wanted it more gentle or harder & I opted for the hard. She knew what she was doing and worked out every known knot. I called about five hours ahead to book a my appointment and specifically requested a woman. When I arrived I was told I'd be getting a male to do my massage instead. If a female provider wasn't available, they should have called me before I drove over. I requested a woman for a reason. Years ago I had an uncomfortable experience with a male provider at this same business, which is why I only book women there. I gave them another chance because I'm a creature of habit and thought I'd finally found a place that was not that bad or sketchy but lesson learned. I won't be returning. Respecting a customer's request or at the very least letting them know ahead of time that it can't be accommodated after all is basic customer service. I usually try to come during the weekdays since weekends can get pretty packed, but either way they've been consistent every time I visit. The front desk staff are always really friendly and welcoming, which I appreciate. It doesn't feel rushed or cold they actually take the time to greet you and get you checked in smoothly, which makes a difference. As for the massages, they're always solid. The therapists know what they're doing and pay attention to where you need more work. I never feel like they're just going through the motions. There have been a few times where I've knocked out during the session because it's just that relaxing. Another thing I like is that the place is always clean. I know this is not a fancy massage place so I managed my expectations accordingly. I wasn't going to leave a review but I ended up getting a bad rash on my arms so felt I had to leave a review. First, the music playing was on a 40(ish) second loop, so it was the same music with a hard cut to the beginning of the same music clip. I was going to say something but it was almost funny how unrelaxing it was. The masseuse would focus on rubbing my bones, as if she was trying to do a chiropractic adjustment. I'm not sure if she was doing it on purpose or she thought she was doing some kind of realignment; either way it did not feel good. I mean, the 90 minute massage plus tip was only $100 so I was going to just be happy with what I got, but a few days later I broke out with a bad rash on the inside of my arms. It could be because of my sensitive skin, but I've never had a rash after a massage before and after some internet searching it could have been because of a combination of too much pressure (thus releasing histamines) and poor quality massage oil. I went here on Saturday and had the full body 90 min massage. My appt was for 7PM. I arrived a bit early and the massage started right on time. A few things went wrong. First maybe it was the end of the day and the masseuse were too tired to perform or maybe because they have you prepay and tip the masseuse, they felt they didn't have to try because they already received their tip, either way, my masseuse was either exhausted or lazy. They just patted me for the first 30 mins with the sheet/towell still on. Once finally they started the massage it was like they never touched a body before. They were always massaging the wrong spot. Like off an inch or two each pass. Rubbing a shoulder blade on the bone rather than the muscle next to it. Then they were using ice cold oil which made things miserable. It literally felt like someone kept spilling a Starbucks iced tea on my back. The last straw was for a 90 min full body massage, they did not touch my feet. Nada nothing, no ankle, calf, arch, toes, nothing. That's my favorite part and I kept waiting and waiting for it and then she said all done and I was like WTF was that. I've had more enjoyment getting cavities filled and paid way less to get them filled. The massage took the full hour (not like those fancy spas that shave off the last 10 minutes at the end to account for the transition time), and my massage therapist was considerate and thorough. They constantly checked in to ensure the pressure was to my liking and successfully targeted my problem areas. Only reason I'm giving this a 4/5 is because the staff at the front was a little cold, and the rooms lack some privacy due to the shared openings at the top (walls don't go all the way up in between rooms). I have been going to them for three plus years. They have always been professional and hard working when it comes to their service and massaging. I have cramps in my feet that hurt, and I have had plantar fasciitis in both of my feet at the same time. It has been so hard for me to move them in the morning sometimes. After three appointments the pain was gone. I was absolutely amazed that it worked. Sure, it was uncomfortable at first because of the stiffness and the arch of my feet. So, when I went to the Dr. he said that my plantar fasciitis is gone! According to my doctor, I took great care of my feet and should pat myself on the back. I guess I made the right decision, and I am so glad I decided to try massage therapy instead of baring the pain. I still go get massages at least 1x per month, because it is a healthy way to take care of your feet. I have also tried their full body massage and it was very relaxing and they applied pressure that was a bit painful but in the long run it paid off because I feel like my blood is circulating and my back is stronger. I think this is a hidden gem that other people should know about and visit if they want to take care of aches and pains. This is my second time coming her for a 60 min $25 foot massage. They accept cards but be prepared to tip cash. This is way better than Miracle on Balfour. Both times with a different massage person. Both provided the right amount of pressure. The only difference with this foot spa versus another foot spa, they don't unclothe your back, they massage outside the blanket.
