While my eldest daughter and I were staying at Days Inn By Wyndham Carlsbad, we got a chance to admire the beautiful Holiday Park that was only a few blocks away. It was a very clean and well maintained park. BBQs, children's playground, and restrooms are available. Lots of grass area for people to play and rest. Grass was very bright green. Trees were abundantly lush and vibrant. There was one tree that was in bloom with lavender flowers. So so pretty! Lavender is my favorite color. I love parks and gardens! Great to stroll through them and enjoy nature at its best. Any chance I get... I am out in nature because that's where life is lived. House is for rest. Remember that... We enjoyed our visit. This is one of my absolute favorite parks to take my son. I've been coming here for over 18 years. The bathrooms are always clean. The park is well taken care of. There may be a few homeless people down by the tables all the way to the left hand side, but this is where my now 16-year-old learned to ride her bike. read more

Its time to update the rest rooms here. You have two separate rest rooms but only 1 sitting stall each for men. Often there are events with 50 + people here and daily visits from business contractors. read more

I love the open space. My child loves to run around. I'm pretty sure this is the kind of place where drug deals go down. There are often sketchy people just sitting in their cars and a few creepers just sitting on benches. It's hard to find open spaces in SoCal, but if you go with a partner, you will be fine. read more

What a well-manicured and well taken care of outside area in the park. Found it to be beautiful and thought I'd go there park the car take a nap and go to the bathroom. The toilet didn't need a little work as it appears to be clogged but that's a minor issue that will be repaired I'm sure in due time. Man, has this place changed in the last 30 years. I know I really shouldn't be surprised, I mean, time does march on. But, I used to live across the street from this park, I used to play soccer on the grass, I used to bike laps around and around, I used to be a Cub Scout at the little lodge there. In the time since I was a kid, they removed the water fountains, updated the playground equipment, and had many an Oktoberfest. Still, it's about how I remember it. The playground itself is fairly well maintained. Pine trees abound, making the sand pit a trap for all of the dry needles, but they seem to clear it out from time to time to keep it from accumulating too much. Part of the slides and bars have been built on that foam rubber material that helps keep kids 'safe' from falling, but it's mainly under the stuff built for younger children. As for the park itself, it's very large, sprawling, extending for a full block, and covered in beautiful tree cover with a path that runs throughout. A gazebo exists for city events, there are multiple bathrooms, and, all in all, it's an excellent park for picnics, fun and games, and has plenty of room for multiple groups on grass that seems to be well kept, green, and trimmed year round. I think the main hazard is what little barriers exist between the playground itself and the road. There is literally only a car length and a sidewalk's worth of width between the street and the toddler jungle gym. More than once I've seen a dog or kid chase after a ball onto the blacktop, making this a park you really need to keep an eye on your child at. Cars generally don't go whizzing passed on the street closest to the playground, but the opposite road does see cars driving by in excess of 30mph. And the only fence I think I've ever seen surrounds a tree to protect people from falling cones. So, be wary. Oh, and the ice cream truck ALWAYS seems to be slowly driving around, blaring their siren call ... take that as you will. read more

This is my favorite park in Carlsbad. I love their playground equipment. My 22 month old roams around a lot but doesn't run in the street (I'm just lucky in that way, I guess.) Its nice that they have the squishy material under the smaller kids play equipment but it would be even better if they had it under both. I also love the big trees here. They just repainted the benches too. The bathrooms are always clean as well. read more

It's a nice park in general. Some tall trees for shades, nice green lawn to run on, and jungle gym facilities. However, there is no fencing around the jungle gym while the park is surrounded by two streets in close proximity. Parents with young toddlers should keep a close eye on them. read more

This is an unsafe park. Poorly lit in the evening. Many people park along the park (and sleep) overnight. Dogs are often off-leash, despite the city and county leash laws mandating dogs be restrained at all times. This park is bordered by a busy street and the highway. I am a dog lover, and walking my own dogs around the perimeter of this park has proven hazardous because of the increased number of dog owners who think it's a dog park. We do have several dog parks in north county. They just don't care. read more

Two different playground structures for tots and older kids. Nice path to ride bikes, rollerblade. Bathrooms, kid and baby swings. Giant trees shading a lot of the play area which includes a sand pit. The only reason you don't get 5 stars here is its location is adjacent to the 5 highway so there's constant noise and it's hard to hear the kids talking to you. read more

Holiday Park has always been in good maintenance and the grass is often nice. We come here to play ball or cathc or climb on the playground equipment. One time there were some boys who stretch some type of tight rope thing between 2 trees and started to walk on it about 4 feet high from the ground. Then those teenage boys started to jump and sit on the tight rope and fly back up to their feet. It was interesting to see this new form of activity. read more

Nice park just off the freeway; lots of flat grass space, fairly clean - we held a company event here once. The playground is OK. Plenty of parking around the outside. The only problem is that it's loud, because of the freeway. read more

I like the playground area and parents are constantly arriving with kiddos to play there. There are a couple of trees with shade which is nice for a picnic, however when I was there ..there were guys just sitting at the tables here and there and some homeless people sleeping. I understand that this is common with parks but I'm not too sure how I like this with a baby around. There is a lot of highway noise. There are better parks around I would say. read more

Holiday park has always been right down the street from my house. Less than a 10-15 minute walk. Cute playground, always well kept. Pros: there's a playground for the kiddies, there's restrooms, lots of grass to have big groups, great place for family functions and it's free! Cons: sometimes can be filled with homeless people or some sketchy characters. I'd take a friend to the restroom if you're there and don't go hanging around to late after dark alone. Always felt safe running in the day time but if alone during off hours just keep your guard up. read more

I like going to his park because it has all elements of a park one would want. It's big with tons of grass, big trees and covered areas with picnic tables. it has a large playground with two sets of swings ( one for younger age and one for older) and everything is well kept and clean. Plenty of parking, trash cans everywhere if needed, and always friendly people there! The ice cream truck stops by alot which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on who you are. The only negative I'd say is its adjacent to a pretty busy road alot of cars go fast on and right next to that is the freeway so its loud and busy read more

Cute park that makes good use of an awkward space in this neighborhood. Plenty of space and parking. I went for a birthday party and there were 2 other large parties going on...no problems. Bathrooms are pretty standard for a public park. Good shade trees too. read more

Hate that my first coming to this park was prompted by a friend's passing followed by the invitation to his memorial here. GREAT location! Love seeing it every time I'm drive up the 5. Easy access is appealing and there seems to be a fair share of parking, whether in a designated spot or along the street. Wasn't too stoked on the number of homeless folks and shady undesirables hanging out, but there's enough park to distance oneself from the crowd you're not digging. Weekends are packed , lots of birthday partys and bbqs! During the week is more calm ! Love that there are swings a huge climbing obstacles ! Lots of room to play soceer or ball. Beautiful trees! Great place for blanket and picnic read more

Females walk with caution . I was walking and stopped there to use the bathrooms. As I exited there were two male adults hanging out in front. As I started walking away they followed me on the grass as i walked on the walkway. Even in broad daylight they started going closer to me and as I turned the corner to go up chestnut a military guy was walking down and I pretended to know him and the two guys turned back towards the park. Lots of people! And a couple of shady looking ones on a bench near the kid's play area. Maybe it's just me but anytime i see two people making out in public in full view of a kid's playground (full of kids, mind you) I get the creeps. They were either cheaters, sick people who liked making out in front of kids, or just a crack whore and her pimp. Hard to say, really. Usually crack whores and their pimps don't get along that well, so i'll rule that one out immediately. Turns out they were watching their kids play. They each had vastly different looking kids so i'm guessing they were cheaters. Luckily for us they left after they got tired of me shooting them dirty looks. Yes, my dirty looks pack a powerful punch! After the cheaters left it turned out to be a nice place for Kiera to play. She loved the swings, the climbing thing was fun and safe (as long as we were right behind her!) and the little swinging bridge was strong enough for adults to climb on while following their granddaughter around. Good times. Brought a little Mickey D's with us to have a mini picnic, left our mess there in the garbage can, and went home tired and full. All in all, a pretty nice place to spend an hour or so. read more
