Welp, I'm officially adult, having purchased my very own Christmas tree for the first time ever…read more That's not counting my Charlie Brown table top tree that I proudly displayed in my first ever apartment for a few years. Not really knowing where to start, I remembered always seeing this little tree "farm" in that triangle of green space on Austin Hwy near the Broadway intersection. A sucker for supporting a good cause and keeping it local, I decided to make it my first stop on the hunt. It was the weekend before Thanksgiving, so there were plenty of lush pines to choose from (Firs to be specific...) starting at 3 and 4 feet and working their way up to 8-9 feet. It didn't take us long to find the perfect one, and within 10 minutes, the volunteer guys running the show had it trimmed, chopped and loaded in our truck for us. We also scored a deal on last year's stand (I think they were selling them half-price). All in all, we made it out of there in less than 20 minutes and spent exactly $100 for a beautiful fresh scented Fir and a brand new stand. It warrants mentioning that, yes, you will find a cheaper tree at Home Depot (by about half the price). But what you won't find is three gentlemen ready and willing to help, with smiles on their faces, and a Christmas Tree purchase that gives you warm fuzzies beyond the usual holiday spirit. Support local when you can!

No better place to get a real tree in San Antonio. Large selection and super friendly volunteers.read more

This The Home Depot has been my go-to for years and even though there's been some not-so-great…read moreexperiences throughout the years, overall it is still my favorite place to shop for all of our home and garden needs. Some things to keep in mind with this The Home Depot is that during the mornings (weekdays and weekends) they can get very busy with all the orders from contractors, so if you need to get ahold of someone for a specific transaction I would recommend coming later in the day. Their garden section is always amazing and they do carry a wide selection of indoor and outdoor houseplants. I also like that they started to offer discounts on some of our regional plants that are better for our San Antonio weather. If you are looking to purchase a shed, please keep in mind that there is one person managing those transactions across multiple stores. So make sure to give them a call ahead of time to see when they will be at this location so you can plan your trip accordingly. Last but not least, I recently purchased some "exotic" plants at this location and they misplaced them and had a cheaper price tag from what they were supposed to be. Thankfully the manager offered me the cheaper price and left the store with an amazing deal.

This was so lame!…read more Before you all start criticizing me, let me clarify that the Alamo itself is not what I am reviewing, but rather specifically the December lights inside the Alamo grounds. Literally you could see everything in 5 minutes after you enter the gates. I'm uploading pictures and a quick video of the 4 major light decorations, so you don't have to venture inside like I did. Honestly, all the decorations outside the entrance gate were more exciting than what was inside the grounds. Additionally, the lights along Houston street and the Riverwalk were also else I'd recommend instead of Alamo Lights. I would have been so angry if I drove and parked downtown solely for the Alamo Lights because it was one of the most underwhelming experiences ever. I know the $5 admission is (probably...hopefully) going towards Alamo maintenance, so that's why I'm not rating this as one star. But any more than $5 and there's a good chance I'd have rated it one star. Also, this review was written in 2023, so maybe the other years' lights were better

Going to Shades of Green is like visiting a botanical garden. Lots of shade trees for comfortable browsing during warm San Antonio days. Beside plants they have a lot of cool fountains you can purchase. I have purchased annual vegetables and flowers here for decades. Sad to see them close, but looking forward to their next chapter.

Shades of Green is a little oasis in the middle of San Antonio!…read more This nursery is one of my favorite in the city because of how peaceful and calm it is. They have a huge selection of both indoor and outdoor plants, and they just keep adding more and more selection of plants to their repertoire. If you love indoor plants, you have to check out their greenhouse. It always has a huge selection of plants from all sizes. They also recently opened a section of cacti and succulents which is super cool. I am not really into those plants, but just walking inside that section makes me feel like I am in Arizona or somewhere else. Frankly it is just magical how much one section can change to the next. Also, the service here is always excellent. I've got some amazing recommendations and tips to take care of my plants from the people that work here. In regards to the value, I think their prices are great for a small business. Anyhow, y'all can see I really love this plant nursery and I think it is a must if you are looking for a new plant baby or just want to take in nature.
