I first started working with Meera almost 2 years ago (I have been practicing for about 10 years now) when she started offering weekly virtual classes during the beginning of the pandemic. This immediately helped me with my mental health using her unique flows, sometimes it almost felt like dancing, to calm my mind as the stress of my tech job began seeping into my personal life. Fast forward 6 months and I was so happy to join her studio sessions and workshops in person at Yoga Garden where she went deeper into both the physical (offering outstanding adjustments) and mental (through breath work, meditation, and even chanting!) aspects which continued to help improve my overall wellbeing and even got me through some of the most stressful points of my career to date. Fast forward again to today and I'm so excited to have joined her new private 1-1 in-person offering. She has built numerous highly personalized routines and she not only teaches me when we are together but has helped me to build a sustainable self-practice that I use daily. The practice includes a combination of asanas (typical movement poses and flows), pranayama (breath work which has improved both my lung capacity as well as calming the constant chatter in my mind), and chanting (something I had never previously considered and which has allowed me to build more focus into my daily life). Meera offers a style of yoga that I have yet to find anywhere else where she conducts a truly holistic practice rather than the traditional, fitness-forward, style which is exactly what I have needed to enjoy a well-rounded lifestyle. I would encourage anyone looking to experience yoga that goes all the way back to its holistic roots to give Meera's sessions a try. I thought she was such a great instructor that I was sure her replacement wouldn't live up. WRONG! Shari is amazing! I love her and only wish she was available more than twice a week! Not only does Shari have a very deep understanding of the body and posture, but she gives great cues. I'm learning so much from her. Things I didn't previously understand about positioning, I now comprehend so much better. Simultaneously to pilates, I also workout with a private fitness trainer, see a physical therapist, multiple (yes, multiple) chiropractors, myofacial release practitioners, and take functional movement classes. So I have quite a bit of experience with different modalities when it comes to body health (or lack thereof). If god forbid, I had to choose just 1 of those to continue, I would for sure pick pilates with Shari. Pilates as taught here isn't just about strengthening. It's about elongating your spine, putting that space back between each vertebrae that we tend to compress, and improving your posture -- something so many of us struggle with today. I find it to be extremely therapeutic and rehabilitative. I used to have a lot of lower back pain -- originating in my teenage years. It became very mild a few years ago. Only after I stopped taking pilates during the first year of the pandemic did I realize the lessened pain was due to pilates. Because the pain level increased during that time off. But now that I'm back, it's virtually gone. I'm always asked how I feel at the beginning of each session. Since I have chronic pain in multiple areas of the body that come and go, my answer might be different each time. Shari takes what I say and then incorporates movements and exercises specifically targeted to help that area. There's more to why I love working with Shari (not least being her sense of humor), but suffice it to say, she's just amazing.

Exploring the local pilates studios with my best friend and came across Solidcore. Definitely…read moreharder than other spots but the burn is SOOOO GOOD. I highly recommend trying it out! We both grabbed their new client 4-pack (insane deal BTW) and have been going for the past few weeks. The studio is modern and clean, and the staff are highly professional and welcoming. Upon entry, there's a single bathroom on the right and the lockers in the hallway to the left, with a door to the studio. The studio itself holds a single, long row of reformers. My first time trying Solidcore and I love the blue light/dark room combination, feels more private and intensifies your focus. Though I do think that the room could use some more ventilation because it gets a little stuffy quickly. I've been to studios where there's kind of a pretentious atmosphere and this is FAR from that. Everyone I chatted with was so down-to-earth! The instructors are great at adapting for all skill levels and correcting form. I look forward to coming back!
