Absolutely unacceptable. We selected a Christmas tree, had it clearly tagged with our initials, and somehow Holloway's still gave our tree to someone else. That is 100% on them. When the owner was notified, his solution was either a refund or we could pick another tree -- but only if we came back another day. No urgency. No real apology. No effort to fix their mistake. Wasting customers' time during the holidays and showing zero accountability is beyond frustrating. This was careless, disrespectful, and flat-out awful customer service. Still the best farm to get your Christmas tree, wreaths and holiday spirit. We drive about two hours for the experience. Get here early before it gets crowded. You come to the farm do dress accordingly. Got to say hello to Mr. Turkey and other animals. The kids and husbands rode the tractor ride and after a lot of picture taking we finally decided to cut the tree. Relaxed by the fire pit while sipping on some hot cocoa and took home an ornament for grandma. Such a fun tradition. Love this place. Prices are comparable to your local stores. this place is racist we were the only Latinos there. Spoke English not Spanish. They followed us around and kept asking if we need help. They weren't asking everyone else every 5 minutes if they need help just us. Everyone everywhere was starting at us, customers and employees. This place definitely either maga or just not friendly. You get what you pay for. We get our Christmas tree here Every year and every year I could not be more pleased with the quality of trees, and friendly service we received. They treat you like family and are so very welcoming. They know their trees and are very helpful. You can roast marshmallows over their fire pit, get something warm to drink and also buy fresh greenery like wreathes and garland. Edit: its been a week and im allergic to the tree. no fault to the business obviously. if you get seasonal allergies, id highly recommend doing your research, shaking the tree out, and rinsing it before bringing it in. What can i say, i was hesitant to come here because everyone in reviews was making a fuss about the prices. But being local, it's always been on the bucketlist to come to Holloways after years of driving past it on the 101. the price here was about $20 more than what we pay for a 6ft Nordman Fir from home depot and well worth the extra $ for us. Our tree is stunning. Its lush and definitely well cared for. We only walked through the trees in the ground. We did not look at the pre-cut douglas firs that they had available. All of the trees we saw looked great. It was hard to choose one! lots of sizes to choose from. after we cut the tree we paid the extra $10 to have it fresh cut & netted. We grabbed hot cocoa, sat and talked by the fire. It was a lovely way to spend our morning. I can see why many people have made coming here a tradition. We will definitely be back! read more

Well, we had started a tradition of coming here to cut our own tree, but last year they had raised their prices so high we just got one in a pot, which died pretty quick. This year, they're really cheating their customers. We looked at precut, there was a tree that was only maybe an inch taller than me, in 5'3, and it was in the 6-7' line for $85! Yet 4-5' is supposed to be $70... Walking out in the field to cut our own was worse. Trees that were clearly barely 6' had price tags of $110, a lot of them had huge missing chunks and overall looked pretty sad. We just won't be back we don't think after this year. read more

I have been coming to Holloway's for years. This year was extremely disappointing. I purchased a tree and paid extra for flocking and the pearl essence. Which the employee had helped me select from a chart at the counter. I had this same effect for the last three years and I really liked it. The employee wrote it on my trees tag, along with my phone number. Do to the flocking I had to comeback the next day. So I comeback the next day and the staff had forgotten to put the pearl essence or any glitter on it at all. I was very clear that, that was what I wanted and had paid for. The owner/manager acknowledge that they had made an error. They did not read the tag when they were flocking my tree. At first he offered me two options, one to have the tree washed and redone the next day and I would have to comeback again or to refund me for the failed flocking. I asked for the refund for the failed flocking, since I could not make another trip back. When the cashier went to start the refund, the manager changed his mind. He said since you do want the tree you can either pay full price or leave it. Even though his employees made a mistake and did not do the job that was ordered. Both the cashier and I were shocked. The employee asked asked him why they could not help me? That there had to be something they could do? It was there error. Plus he had already offered to refund me for their error. He just yelled at the employee and said she can take it or leave it. She just apologized to me and said she was sorry. The employee just stood there looking stunned by the manager/owners behavior. Holloway's does not have any customer service. Good customer service would have been to apologize. Charged me for the tree but refund the failed flocking since they did not do the service they were paid for a d what was clearly written on the tag, along with my phone number. They could have called me if they were some how confused by what the order tag said. I will never go back. There are plenty of other tree lots, that practice customer service. Like others have said on here, they are over priced in comparison too the other lots. But you pay for the experience, but do to bad management/ownership the experience is ruined. read more

We've been coming here for 7 years now. Our first year, we attempted to cut the tree down ourselves. That was fun, but my husband refused to do it the following years. So, we head a bit further up the road to where they already have them cut. The kids get such a kick out of coming here because they have tractor rides, a giant swing, a huge seesaw, hot chocolate, hot cider, popcorn, etc. They have a large variety in tree size and, I believe, 3 different types of trees. They get docked a star because, even though we like supporting a local business, they are on the pricey end and they add charges for everything (shaking your tree out, netting it, etc). You can also find garland, wreaths, & mistletoe and buy a flocked t In years past, we've occasionally arrived when Santa was there and the kids have gotten to take pictures with him. I've also seen them sell s'mores kits for the little fire pit they have, though we haven't tried it for ourselves. Everyone is super helpful & friendly. We'll be back next year! read more

This place was amazing!! We live in Morro Bay so it is a bit of a drive to go get a tree and strap it to the top of the minivan and drive on the freeway back, but it was well worth it! We came with the intention of cutting down a tree. When we first pulled up there were some trees to self cut on the left side of the road. Upon further investigation on the other side of the road there are more trees and a whole fun area set up with quad rides, petting zoo and more. We found a tree we liked, the Nobel fur variety and it was attached to a base. Since the base was attached it was only sold that way and could not be removed easily. We asked a helper about separating it and he got the owner Mr. Halloway himself. He was extremely nice and patient and took us to the perfect tree just like the one on the stand, maybe better? Anyways he got the tractor and drove it to the front for us and took care of everything, even had his crew load it on the top of our van! I have gotten many trees in the area. They have been dry and not well taken care of and shed so many pine needles that by Christmas it is so dry we are afraid to turn the lights on. Well at this place all the trees are resting in troughs of water. When we got home and set it up we added water to our holder. Normally when we check it a few hours later, the tree was so thirsty it drank it down! Well not this time, the tree is very happy and so are we! We went to Holloway's tonight for this 2020 season. I was pleased to see all of the upgrades and changes. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted. They combined all of the children activities in one area. My kids loved it! I really enjoyed pushing them on the swing "merry-go-round". What a cute idea! There is hand sanitizer stands everywhere. I loved this addition. The quad ride was well worth the $5 that they charge. It's quite long. My only suggestion is to add rows or some type of guidance for the lines at the cash register. Due to social distancing, we can't wait right behind the person in front of us like normal. This makes it difficult to see who is in line, and who is looking at the little stand of wreaths (or something of that sort) that is next to the sales box. read more

Truly sad how the staff treated us. My first and last time I will go. What was supposed to be a fun experience turned out to be a terrible experience. As I was getting in my car one of the employees had to make one last smart remark. I told the female employee maybe they should have signs next to their little attractions that states you have to pay. Instead of treating us the way they did. She was telling the guys that work there what I said and one of the gentleman says to me while I'm in the parking lot "there is sign right there". EVERYone was kind, helpful and polite! I had to ask because I heard "rumors" that Carl Holloway was charging $30 entry and being the "grinch". Carl Holloway was at the exit helping everyone, as usual, load their trees and making sure everyone was leaving happy and satisfied. Being born & raised in Nipomo we have been going to Halloways to purchase our Christmas tree our whole lives, it's a family tradition and yesterday they ruined it for us! The old man (grinch) was being rude to us & kicked us out because we were confused about having to pay an "admissions/membership" fee when we first walked in... When we walked in he stopped us to ask if we have been here before & I said "yes every year!" And kept walking, he then asked us about having a membership & I said that we had one already. He continued to follow us & before we can get to the trees he stopped me & my husband (my siblings & nephews were ahead of us) and rudely said "maybe I didn't make myself clear, you have to pay before you can walk in & use our stuff, come with me" and we followed him & I was showing him my previous membership cards that have cut outs showing we have been purchasing trees there for years" but he didn't care, he said that because they have people that go there & dont buying trees they now require a "$30 non refundable deposit" when we first walk in so people don't just walk in & use there stuff & leave. We were confused because almost everything besides the swings still costs money & you need a ticket for so we didn't understand how halloways loses out with those people anyways specially since the trees are so expensive. so while we were in line & paid the $30 fee we noticed that none of the people by us were purchasing this fee & And this whole time that he pulled us to the side by the entrance there were a lot of other families walking in & none of them got stopped & asked to pay a fee as soon as they walked in so I felt singled out & told him that & that the way he came up to us & followed us & started talking rudely instead of just explaining this in a normal matter has ruined this experience for us and he responded by saying that he would prefer that we leave! instead of just providing good customer service, he said for us to leave! And I said "I'm showing you proof that we have been a customer for years & was just confused about the fee because we have never had to pay that & other people walking in aren't getting asked to pay it. But now I don't feel like doing business here because of how poorly he was treating us" And he still said he preferred that we left, so I called my family over & explained to them to this man was kicking us out, he didn't try to clarify with them or explain himself, just crossed his arms & escorted us out. My nephews were really sad saying "why are we getting kicked out we come here every year" and he could care less! just starred at us as we walked out. Now at first I thought this was a racial thing because we were the ONLY ethnic people there at the time but I've read other comments on yelp with similar experiences so he is just a nasty grinch that ruined our experience. This is my daughters first Christmas so I wanted to record her watching us cut our tree down & take a pic of her in the tractor as we rode it with our tree in the back. So even after he was being rude I still paid the $30 "admission/membership fee to get this experience for her but he still kicked us out. Needless to say we are NEVER returning to Halloways again. Every year when we would spend over $100 there ($300 last year) people would always ask why I spend so much on a tree when we could buy them anywhere else for half the price & I always explained that it was because of the experience but the way I was treated yesterday I regret every dime I've ever given them!!! read more

It's not all that it's hyped up to be. First, I will say that the employee helping us was patient, courteous, and professional. The trees are somewhat more expensive than most places. What gets me is the $5 charge to net the tree, and the $3 change to "shake" the tree. Perhaps the prices were posted and I missed them, but this was the first time I'be ever been charged to net a tree (this was our first time at Holloway's). Sad to say, but Lowe's had a larger selection of better looking and smelling trees for a fraction of the price. read more

Horrible experience. We purchased a choose and cut one about 7'. Staff cut it, extra fee to mount it on our stand (same type that they sell), which they do by drilling a hole in the trunk bottom. First hole was off and tree was lopsided. They drilled it again, close to other hole so now there was a big hole and tree was wobbly, but straighter. They hold my husband it was no big deal, but it wobbled the entire time we were decorating it. Middle of the night, it crashed to the floor, ornaments and all. Now it's undecorated, very wobbly and lopsided. Called this morning, left a message , doubtful they will ever call back. Staff was friendly, but there were people waiting to get their trees mounted, so they were in a hurry. Seems this place compromises competency for cash. I've cut down trees at other farms and never had this problem. Too bad it seems to be the only place around. Never again. read more

We have come here since I was a kid and will continue to come! We just got our tree and everyone was very pleasant! The guys who helped us pick it out, the cashier gals, and even the owner came up and chatted with us. From beginning to end it was a personal and very pleasant trip!! Great experience and great quality trees. Yes, their prices are more than Home Depot or other stores, but their trees are great! We've got our Christmas tree the past few years at Holloway's and have loved them. They have a huge selection and the environment is a blast to take kids. Our kids love the quad train ride that goes over hills and all around the property. They also offer flocked, or "snowy" as my kids call it, trees for a bit more money. If you'd prefer to channel your inner lumberjack, you can walk or ride a tractor to cut your own tree. They supply the saw. We usually get our tree Thanksgiving weekend and it is still good through middle of January! They have a great staff and they are very helpful. read more

I was there with my family and had already bought a tree and was looking for a second one when the owner told us we couldn't just be standing around on the farm and that it was company policy to buy a day pass to be there. My sister let him know that her husband had it and was loading up the tree, he then accused us of lying. He stalked us back to where her husband was loading the tree and then proceeded to tell him that his wife just, "didn't understand company policy." This was our first and will be our last year getting a tree from this business. The trees are beautiful, the employee that cut our tree down for us was very nice as well as the cashier but that's where it stopped. We waited longer than others around us to have the stand placed on the tree and felt like we were constantly overlooked even though we were right in front of everyone. We waited our turn and still two people were helped before who were behind us. Once the stand was placed and the tree was stood it was noticeably crooked to where it looked like the water would spill out of the stand once filled. We told them that it looked more crooked than what it should be and the employee gave the excuse that we would need to adjust it at home and acted as if he didn't want to help us any further or fix the problem. Every tree that had a stand placed on it that we seen go out of that lot wasn't even close to how crooked ours was and for that employee to not want to help us or see that it was wrong is a poor overlook on their part. This was very disappointing after paying slightly under $140 on a tree that could've been half this price at any other local lot for a straight tree. My husband told the employee the cut looked crooked before placing the stand on it and all the employee said was well I didn't cut it. After much back and forth of the tree being crooked between us and the employee he unhappily offered to re-cut it and redo the stand. Once he re-did the cut and stood the tree it was perfectly straight, the employees took the tree to our truck and one disingenuously said Merry Christmas. It was a fun experience to be able to cut down your own tree but I wouldn't go back and spend that amount on a business that doesn't value all of their customers equally. It was an unfortunate experience as we like to choose local family owned business's to purchase from but I feel we would've had better customer service from a Costco or Lowe's. read more

We are return customers for many years. Usually, our experience is quick and easy. We pick our tree, chop it down, get it shaken and mounted and take it home to decorate. This time was the same, except 1 week after taking it home we discovered hundreds of tiny little beetles hatching from under our tree! I called Halloway's. The female employee I spoke to was great. She gave my message to the owner, Carl, who was horrible! Carl was rude and assumed that I was lying. He told me to return the tree so that he can see for himself. Unfortunately we are super busy and unable to make it back to Nipomo before the holidays. We'd have to borrow a truck again, which is very inconvenient. I asked for a credit for next year (vs a replacement or refund) and Carl refused. Needless to say, our tree from Holloway's this year was a major FAIL. The ownership is horrible, and my prediction is that the business will suffer because of it. It's too bad because the concept is a good one. I hope they get their act together. We went and got our tree yesterday. When first arriving we were greeted and shown where everything was. We decided to cut our tree ourself and carry it back in. While we were looking someone on a tractor came over and offered to cut it for us with a chain saw and take all of us back on the tractor. We wanted to do it all ourselves but its nice to know they have that option. My family was all treated with respect and it was a great family experience. After we got our tree we all had hot chocolate and gathered around the camp fire. Great experience! read more

I have to say the rumors on the Holloways customer service is absolutely true! We came to your lot today, picked our tree, got to the front and a big heavy gate that was not attached to anything fell over on my 5 year old son and his friend. We lifted the gate and removed our screaming, crying 5 year old son and assessed his injuries, all while the staff all 5 of them within 10 feeet, stood around, didnt offer to help nor even acknowledge us. We asked for the manager whom came out and didnt apologize for the incident and/or ask if there was anything he could do but instead said my son is to blame for a in secured gate falling on him! He then told us that we could go elsewhere and didnt need to buy his tree, the incident wasnt even documented. We left our tree laying in the dirt and took our son home....A simple im sorry, we will make sure this doesnt happen to anyone else would of been great and we would of still bought the tree and went on our way as things do happen! Weve been going to Holloway's for about 20 years. So many great memories. Until one year my mom asked a question and they were shockingly and unbelievably rude. A few years later, I decided to give them another chance. I took my one year old and within five minutes of being there we were being harassed by a worker because my daughter was touching the swing. (No one else was in the area besides us) the worker told us we have to pay to swing on the swing (that I grew up using for no fee) I was told I had to pay twenty dollars or buy a tree, in order for her to use the swing. So we went to look around. The worker followed us around and harassed us that we had to pay pay pay for everything. We drove an hour to be there and left with no tree. The awful customer service and overpriced everything is the reason we will never set foot on that property again. What can I say? Multiple staff were extremely rude and condescending and kept hassling us asking if we were buying a tree or not. If you don't buy a tree or their $20 membership apparently you cannot do anything else there they have to offer.
