Less expensive, but you don't know what you're getting once the tree is removed from the netting. You know exactly what you're choosing from Hopper Brothers, and the prices were better this year. The trees stay healthy if you take care of them, and we don't have to cut it down ourselves. Yes, we did give our family that experience back when they were young, but nearing retirement age means I'd prefer the tree already be cut and ready to take home! If you are looking for bamboo for your yard this is hands down the place to go. The service is prompt, and the family that owns this business is exceptionally kind and knowledgable. The tour of their bamboo farm is well worth the drive out. We started with a tour of their massive bamboo farm, where they showed us all the different varieties they grow and the different ways they can be used. We chose a species that we felt would be a good fit for our space. They then came out to our house and measured and assessed the site. They were quick to get back to us with a quote that seemed more than fair given all the labor involved in the installation. It had taken me a little while to schedule them out to the house for the assessment, so I was grateful when they graciously had us to come back a second time to look at the species we were choosing for our yard. Once we confirmed the species, they were super quick to come back out and get the job done. In less than a day they transformed my entire backyard; which was no small feat as it was weed ridden, and our soil is so hard it might as well be rock. They dug out the clay, lined the entire surface to prevent spreading into my neighbors yards, back filled it with quality soil covered it with mulch, installed a drip system, and even fixed my heavily leaning fence. This job would have taken me months to accomplish, and it never would have turned out as beautiful. I had follow up questions a few weeks later and they got back to me within minutes giving me all the information I needed to ensure the bamboo remains happy and healthy. Paso Bamboo is not only experts when it comes to bamboo, but they excel in providing a good customer experience that leaves you feeling well taken care of.

My family and I went to Chesebrough Farm today for a fun fall outing. Our toddler enjoyed the…read morevariety of pumpkin colors, shapes, sizes and textures. I've never seen his vocabulary on fire as much as it was this afternoon! He also enjoyed seeing the farm animals especially the baby calf and goat. As a mom, my heart was full of joy seeing his delight and watching him revel in their garden (we have a garden at home) and at wheeling his wheelbarrow full of pumpkins. I especially enjoyed speaking with the woman at the counter about the varieties of pumpkins (we tried growing some this year too), and what pumpkins make a great pumpkin pie. I am very excited to try the Long Island Cheese Pumpkin in my holiday pies this year. I truly appreciate all the time she took speaking with me and our family. To top it all off I expected our purchases to be about triple of what it actually cost, I'm absolutely blown away at the value this farm offers. I will be back again before the end of the season! We wandered into Grow because I created a large succulent garden during the pandemic by taking daily rides to all the succulent vendors in SLO. My succulent garden has grown, as has my love of the kooky twisty Dr. Seuss-like plants. I am also happy that they thrive without water! We loved the succulents, displayed in front of and behind the store. There were some new ones, and many large ones that would be a fun addition to any collection. Surprisingly, what really caught my attention was the large collection of minerals in the main indoor room. I collected them as a nerdy kid, and now my grandson loves them from reading the Harry Potter books!

They have larger and smaller sized (unripe) available for purchase, prices are extremely reasonable. If you are looking for ripe and ready for guacamole avocados, these are also available. They carry local products, lotions, cooking oils, pickled garlic, pickled asparagus, etc for purchase. Also have a nice selection of Frontier (dry soup mix) Soups. Parking is on asphalt and convenient handicap parking closer to the stand. They take cash, credit cards and debit. Staff were friendly and engaging. The stand is small but very clean and organized.

Jennifer and Karen were an absolute pleasure to work with, and made everything extremely simple for us. Communication was quick and easy, and Jennifer answered my continued inquiries without hesitation. I never felt like I was bothering her - she was consistently upbeat and pleasant. The property and venue is BEAUTIFUL. There was rain on our wedding day, but I think our Plan B option that Jennifer helped develop turned out even better than Plan A! They offer a ton of amenities, including the house on property, tables, chairs etc. We even used Olive Oil from the venue for our wedding favors, and our guests RAVED about them :) Jennifer recommended several vendors that we ended up going with, including hair and makeup. I couldn't be more pleased that we chose The Groves on 41 for our wedding, and wouldn't hesitate to host another event at this property.

They are only open from 10am til 3pm on Thursday through Saturday right now, but you can go to their web site at polyplantshop and get ideas before you go in, then call to make your appointment. It's only two people at a time, and appointments are set up for each half hour. We drove in from Highway 1, through the parking lots near the Engineering Buildings, then turned left and headed up toward the Agriculture Department. It is officially Building 48 at the end of Via Carta Road. On the way, we saw a flock of wild turkeys and a field of horses, so it was a fun animal spotting expedition that kids would enjoy. We pulled into the small parking lot and found out that we didn't have to pay to park, then ambled in. We were immediately greeted by a very personable student, who showed us the wide array of potted succulents, and clearly explained pricing. We put our selections in a cardboard tray given us by the student workers, and wandered around, gazing at some varieties we had never seen before. There are tiny pots for $3, small pots for $5, and an assortment of larger pots for $10-14. We wanted to fill a large bronze colored planter box with a big range of plants, and looked for unusual specimens. I liked the pinkish ones, and also chose some stripey plants that I had not seen elsewhere. My total for eight plants was $40. and the best part was that it benefits Cal Poly and their "Learn by Doing" Nursery Shop. The lovely worker even added a bouquet of flowers for my Mom!

I had visited the downtown SLO space and picked out quite a few plants to decorate a good size office. I eagerly waited all month since they are only open to the public twice a month. I was very excited to visit and receive some help finding what I needed for the office space and I was met was a pretty unhelpful guy. "We are not set up to hand-hold. We are set up for landscaping purchases. You kinda need to go find stuff yourself." Are you serious? You have an empty lot, no other customers, and a guy who wants to spend money and you won't take the time to help him out with his purchase? That's poor customer service and bad business.
