A good sized park with play area for children, basketball court and ball field. Views and old trees and lots of space. Lots of benches to snuggle with your boo thang. I remember I once took my Piggy Piggy here. In fact, that was my first visit to this fantastic park. She loved it but didn't like the stairs. She would do five stairs and then need a 45 minute rest. I wanted to go to the top and see the views so I just carried her - she didn't mind - shameless - I loved how based she was - I found that so attractive - so confident. The views here are incredible near the top - you can see in all directions once you clear the trees - all the way to the bay. Its usually got some wind blowing through the old trees and you can hear that as you relax at one of the many well placed benches. Its very romantic. The park is circular in shape and hilly - around the perimeter there is tons of parking - I sometimes dream of living across from a park like this where I can enjoy all the green and have none of the work. Probably a park where you would never see it unless you live nearby. The best part of having a dog is that if forces you to try something new every day as they like to sniff around and act as if they are Christopher Columbus with this instant attitude like they were the first to find this place and now own it if they tinkle or sprinkle around here and there. How far would I drive to come here? Maybe 14 minutes. 4 stars. read more

Holly Park literally has to be on my Top 3 list of favorite parks in San Francisco. What I love most about Holly Park is how you truly get a 360 view of San Francisco as Holly Park structurally is a round park. Whether you are doing a morning walk with your dog with a cup of coffee in your hand, hanging with your friends, taking your child to the playground, basking in the sun reading a book, or sweating off your energy with a basketball game or pickleball rally, Holly Park has space for it all. I could be wrong but I believe there is only 1 playground, 1 basketball court, and 1 Tennis court. There are public restrooms. There is an ample amount of parking despite being a residential area. read more

** The following review reflects my experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** Even though it sounds like the name of a lesbian folk singer, this is actually a neighborhood park shaped like an old-fashioned cameo, perfectly oval on top of a hill in Bernal Heights. The hill is named Holly Hill, of course, and that's not a lesbian folk singer either. It's rather the ideal spot for circular walking paths with no final destination and flanked by all the necessary extras needed in a family-friendly like picnic tables, basketball courts, and a playground. If I reviewed each and every park in San Francisco, Holly Park would be at the top of my list. Why? Sentimental memories of being a kid in the park on monkey bars, swings, being a little dare devil jumping off the things....perfect landing!!! I was a playground gymnast. Going to the park as a kid always made me happy. As an adult, I still enjoy coming to this park. It's nice to see that this park is still very well maintained, nice baseball diamond, playground, picnic tables, tennis and basketball courts. It's a tiny park, but well taken care of. Brings back great memories. The trees are so very tall and serve as a protective canopy over the park. The light breaks between the trees and from the top you have an excellent view of the bay view. I walk through this park often, just to hear the Eucalyptus trees. I could always walk around the circle, but prefer walking right through Holly Park every time. I like to run around Holly Park. It's a perfect little circle and not very long at all (probably 1/4 mile around). It's easy to brag about how many laps you did. Lol. I subtracted two stars because there were ten dogs in the athletic field of holly park when there is multiple signs saying that they are not allowed, and dogs were off leash when they are supposed to be on leash (no matter the size), which led to a dog coming over to where me and my grandma were laying on a picnic blanket and a dog peed all over our stuff. The owner was far away and called the dog but they never apologized and they left quickly. I love this park and I have been coming since I was little, but I wouldn't recommend going if you expect for the rules applying dogs to follow. (Ex. Bring a cat or other animal, having the risk of a dog using the bathroom on your stuff, having maybe another dog, or for whatever other reason.) I have gone several times, and this is not a one time thing. If you are a dog owner going to holly park, please, PLEASE, follow the rules. They are there for a reason and it really ruined my experience. read more

Looking for balance? Live in the city? You just found it. Holly Park is an oasis, a "God's country" if you will, a magical place that takes the hustle and bustle of urban noises and soothes them as you take a stroll along its paved path. The eucalyptus trees at the very top is truly breathtaking. It's like strolling through "The Wizard of Oz." Since its renovation in September of 2004, Holly Park provides state of the art kiddie playground, a deck with tables and benches that can accommodate a crowd of about 50 including barbecue grills to boot. A tennis and basketball court, and just on the other side, is an awesome baseball field. This is a dog friendly park with well behaved dogs including their owners! I have taken my dogs here many times and it has got to be one of the my favorite parks in San Francisco. There are plenty of shades, tons of green grass for the dogs to run around and explore, a clean drinking water fountain both for humans and their dogs, a well lit and clean bathrooms, and benches everywhere to sit and chill. The park is clean. What more can you ask for? read more

The playground at this park is heaven! It's fenced in and super nice. The equipment is modern and in really good shape. The ground is cushy, so it doesn't hurt as much when the kids wipe out (as they inevitably do). They've got all the basics (swings, play structures to climb) and some extra cool play structures (one that reminds me of a web that Spiderman would create). read more

Beautiful quiet oval park on top of the Holly hill in Bernal Heights. Spent an afternoon BBQing and catching up with friends - need to make reservations online for the bbq area that has a grill and seating and you get your own private space to hang out. Plenty of parking space in and around the park and a great spot to dog and people watch and have a chill time. read more

Definitely my new favorite park for people and dogs alike. It's always quiet with the birds singing and tons of trees and grass where some humans run and various dogs play. It's a little further from me than my second favorite park -billy goat hill- but for the sunshine and all the rest, it's worth it. Most dogs here are on the small to medium size so we all feel pretty comfortable with our dogs off leash. read more

I enjoy this park, particularly its view when you are looking to the east of the bay and Bayview. The park itself is a little hill, its got a baseball diamond and basketball and tennis courts, and a little strip of playground equipment (fenced in) for the little ones. It's definitely dog friendly like the rest of Bernal Heights, and I often see dogs there off leash. It's well maintained, has a public bathroom, and has nice big trees. All that said, it's pretty tiny, not at all big enough to get lost or even take a decent length walk. It's a nice place to sit and have a picnic lunch, and I always walk through it instead of around it on my way to Cortland Ave, but that's about it. read more

My first week of unemployment-land left me pondering deep thoughts. What am I going to do with the rest of my life? If there is a god, why do so many cruel things happen to good people? Does it really matter if Hillary or Barack wins the election, aren't they about the same? What ever happened to Sheena Easton? Is her baby still riding the morning train? Needless to say, useless idle thoughts have been running though my head. I needed to get out of the house, pronto. So I headed to Holly Park to clear my head. It's a secluded and well maintained public park located at the very top of Bernal Heights, so there are breath-taking views of just about every neighborhood in SF. Plenty of benches surround one major picnic area. In fact, I'm writing this review from one of the benches right now. As I survey downtown SF from an elevated distance, I'm not sure when I want to return to that jungle. It will eventually happen, but for now I'm perfectly happy sitting on this bench. Otis Redding had his dock on the bay, but I'll take this bench at Holly Park for now. I just wish I knew how to whistle. 5 stars. read more

I'm torn. I really do love this park... I just don't love some of the people that let their big, misbehaved dogs run off-leash. I live around the corner and love to jog through the area... and bring my little dog with me, ON A LEASH. Don't get me wrong, if you have trained your dog, I have no problem with you playing fetch with your dog on the grassy side. BUT just last week I was walking and a big black dog actually jumped up on me because I had a soccer ball. The owner was so far away he didn't even see it. wtf?! Today a huge husky came up and wanted to play with my 7lb dog. The owner came running up the hill yelling "stop" as his husky had my dog's neck in its mouth and was lifting her off the ground! "He just wants to play." - careless idiotic dog owner. I don't care if your dog wants to play. I don't want MY dog to play with your oafish untrained dog... so back off jerk! This is my main complaint. Other than that, views are amazing. Not a place to sunbathe, but great for a jog, tennis, basketball, or for a traumatizing dog walk. :) read more

Holly Park: Curvy, Compact and Fabulous. Much like myself - ha-haaaa (Jackee style). No, but seriously, Holly Park is a great place to spend a Saturday reading, enjoying a picnic and people/dog watching. Especially if Dolores Park is a madhouse and it makes you feel a little old because you don't: smoke weed, have a waxed mustache or you aren't currently attending an artisanal circus school. Holly Park is just neighborhood people chilling in a park. Great views and great breezes off the Bay. Oh, and there is almost always parking. read more

This *is* a great playground for the kiddies. It's separated into big and little kids areas by a gate, and the whole durn thing is fenced in, which is very handy. The park gets great weather and has lovely views. A caveat: the sand pit has treacherously steep sides. I've watched quite a few kids and adults wipe out when they weren't paying attention. read more

Tennis courts for the tennis inclined. Open fields of grass for the leash holders (signs say keep 'em on leash....if they're wild and dangerous and will bite me, my dog, or other people's children, I agree...if they're not, head to the windward western side and LET 'EM RUN!) The paths that circle the park are a runner's dream. The playgrounds are worthy of a visit with your kids, or your peeps' kids when they come to visit you here in the city. They are situated next to barbeque grills, so bring a picnic and turn the kids loose in the playgrounds! This is in between Bernal Heights Park and St. Mary's Park....a most excellent circuit walk either by yourself or with your favorite four-legged friend. read more

Not necessarily a business but a damn' (ooppss ear muffs kids) a darn fine, new, clean, well designed playground for the rug rats who need to run around with other rug rats. Holly Park Playground was recently rated one of the best playgrounds in SF by the SF Chronicle, and it's easy to see why. On the weekends there are always tons of parent and kids enjoying the swings, merry-go-rounds, see saws etc. and people seem pretty friendly. The view is great and it's a only two blocks from Cortland and the main BH drag. There is also a cute playground right off Cortland behind the library - but is seems a little smaller. Either way both are safe, fun and entertaining ways for the energy filled kiddies to get out and enjoy the fresh air. read more

A petite and pleasant bubble of a park on a shoulder of Bernal Heights. Legend has it that this is the kids' territory, while Bernal Heights Park is for the dogs. For the dogless-kidless, it's still a great place to stroll around with an ice cream from MaggieMudd (provided the wind doesn't blow it off your cone) and enjoy the nearly 360 degree views. Plus there's the usual tennis, baseball and basketball facilities. The other neat thing about it is the rim of houses facing the park that give it a very village-square (I mean, oval) kind of feel. read more

Pretty cool park on a nice warm, sunny day. But, it can also get kinda windy. Otherwise, my main reason for liking this spot is because of the basketball court that's pretty nice and in good condition with nets on both rims. The view when making free throws can't be beat with great SF scenery. The trees surrounding the bball/tennis courts is nice too because it feels very woodsy. read more

A great little park in Bernal Hts. Just around the corner from Cortland Street and walkable from my house, which I love! The playground is great for kids and the basketball court is great for my husband. I love the paved path that circles around the park and the grassy areas that are perfect for lounging around on a sunny day. Unfortunately, this part of Bernal can get really windy. Otherwise, a great choice for a relatively quiet, pretty, clean park in the city. read more

I came here for the first time last weekend. It's a rounded hill elevated from the surrounding streets, and pleasantly breezy with the hilltop forest of tall trees. The courts (basketball, tennis) were empty when we came. It seemed fairly large for a neighbourhood park, and surprisingly Clean -- even the restroom looked very civilized. One caveat, you need to keep your bearings. The park was perfectly oval, and streets on opposite sides (Highland Ave, Park St) have the exact same names. We hopped on Highland Ave meaning to go east and ended up on the wrong side of the freeway (and not the nice part of town). So stay on the east side of this park. Going north, Elsie St makes for a scenic walk with unstoppable views to the west. read more

This review is for the Kid playground only, since I didn't spend much time at the rest of the park: I don't get to Bernal Heights as often as I'd like, but my kids really love the kid playground. Today, I was surprised that on a school holiday, it wasn't more crowded. So, I've driven by this park many times but today was the first time, I really experienced it. I decided to ride my bike over there and wow, it was breathtaking It looks like an island of grass but surprisingly, it was larger then I expected. There is a smooth path that wraps all around the park. There isn't too much even ground here. I was surprised to see that there was a small softball field up at the top and nearby was a basketball court. I had brought a blanket to lay down to read my book but the grass didn't look as appealing as the several benches that were speckled around the park. This was mainly due to the fact that the grass wasn't lush or the grade of the slope was a little too steep for my liking. I rode my bike around a curve and I was taken aback by the view that appeared before my eyes. There were breathtaking east bay views. The green grass was a great contrast to the lovely view that I saw past the park. It was really spectacular. This is a must see, especially if you live nearby. The feeling here is really peaceful and I could see why its a great place to bring your dogs too. read more

I love this park. I go to this park as often as I possibly can. I can usually be found sitting at the bench, watching everyone. I love the atmosphere up here. I always see children playing, dogs running joyfully across the grass, couples cuddling on a blanket, babies being pushed around in strollers ... it's like a perfect world. I love it here. read more

When I walk in this park at dusk I feel like I'm inside of a giant snow globe. As the lights begin to turn on beautiful point of light scenes emerge. There's the north side of the park where you are looking up at the hill, then there's the west side of the park where you can see Noe Valley in the distance, on the south side you can see the south city streaching out in front of you, and the east side has a unique view of the bay. This a beautiful park, I take the dog here every day after work, it has a great view, there is a really nice playground for kids ( i haven't actually been to it, but I walk by it) . It has tennis courts, basketball courts, and a baseball field, it's not a big park but they pack a lot in, there is also grills so you and fam, can go there an BBQ. It's just quiet and peaceful, and I'm so happy i live so close. read more

It's great to walk around the top with a view in every direction. All the amenities for kids, bbq-ers, gamers, strollers (both those who are strolling and kids being pushed along), etc. Also nice to have Cortland Ave close by to grab a bite to eat before or after the park. read more
