I remember I once took my Piggy Piggy here. In fact, that was my first visit to this fantastic park. She loved it but didn't like the stairs. She would do five stairs and then need a 45 minute rest. I wanted to go to the top and see the views so I just carried her - she didn't mind - shameless - I loved how based she was - I found that so attractive - so confident. The views here are incredible near the top - you can see in all directions once you clear the trees - all the way to the bay. Its usually got some wind blowing through the old trees and you can hear that as you relax at one of the many well placed benches. Its very romantic. The park is circular in shape and hilly - around the perimeter there is tons of parking - I sometimes dream of living across from a park like this where I can enjoy all the green and have none of the work. Probably a park where you would never see it unless you live nearby. The best part of having a dog is that if forces you to try something new every day as they like to sniff around and act as if they are Christopher Columbus with this instant attitude like they were the first to find this place and now own it if they tinkle or sprinkle around here and there. How far would I drive to come here? Maybe 14 minutes. 4 stars.

What I love…read moremost about Holly Park is how you truly get a 360 view of San Francisco as Holly Park structurally is a round park. Whether you are doing a morning walk with your dog with a cup of coffee in your hand, hanging with your friends, taking your child to the playground, basking in the sun reading a book, or sweating off your energy with a basketball game or pickleball rally, Holly Park has space for it all. I could be wrong but I believe there is only 1 playground, 1 basketball court, and 1 Tennis court. There are public restrooms. There is an ample amount of parking despite being a residential area.

First we walked to Canyon Market and got ourselves some hot drinks and breakfast to go before walking up to the hill. We knew about the swing being there but they had taken it out before we got there; I'm sure it posed as a hazard for people. Regardless, I could not stop taking pictures of the skyline. The blue sky overlapped by the grey clouds on a January morning...the endless array of buildings in all shapes and lengths...greenery...it's just a magical view. I especially loved the addition of the stairs that leads you up and down the hill and makes it easier for folks. Even walking to the hill through the residential streets was a real treat with the view of all the beautiful houses in their ornate colors and designs. I'll never get tired of the views here. But Billy Goat Hill, man. It's difficult to overestimate just how surprising it is as a San Francisco park. It's not overbuilt, overthought, or annoying. Do you know how much of San Francisco is all three of those things? And especially some of its parks? No, the hill is just that: a hillside that was spared from construction, probably because of the complicated nest of streets and elevations at its lower, northern end. The best way to appreciate it is to come in the afternoon. If you really want to unspoil the surprise, drive east on Addison Street past Walter Haas Park. Turn right on Everson Street and then left on Beacon Street. Right after the houses end on the north side of Beacon Street, park your car. The view of downtown is amazing. Give yourself a little bit of time up on the street before you go down the path and stairs. After that initial stunning view, the rest of the park can feel anticlimactic. It's not really maintained as a green-grass park; it's just a more-or-less feral hillside with some iconic trees, some rocky ground, and wooden box steps and handrails that have seen better days. The path goes down the hill to Laidley Street. It's fairly steep, so if you're bringing someone with mobility issues, they should either not go all the way down, or you should drive and pick them up--which is its own issue because although it's only down the hill, it is impossible to drive to the bottom of the park without going three or four times the distance. From where you parked on Beacon Street, continue west and turn right at Diamond Street. Then turn right again onto 29th Street. Turn right on Castro Street, and when it dead-ends at the park, turn left onto 30th Street. The path at the bottom of the park ends near the weird intersection of 30th & Laidley Streets. Oh, and that "dead end" of Castro Street isn't really where it ends--after a long gap, it reappears in Glen Park for a little more than a block between Bemis and Chenery Streets, where it ends for good. It gets really windy up here, and there are no real places to sit, so it's more of a short-hike park than a hanging-out park. Still, it can be serene to just sit in your car and take in the view, which never gets old. Another fun part is looking almost due east from the promontory and seeing Bernal Hill also standing out beautifully and boldly in the city. I'm sure you can see Billy Goat Hill from Bernal Hill as well. I've been many times on beautiful, fog-free days, and I've never had trouble finding street parking right on Beacon Street. There's regular street sweeping, of course, but I'm really surprised it's not more crowded with cars.

This park beckons with 5-1/2 acres of rolling lawns bordered by a long plank wood wall and landscaped with easy paths, benches, and picnic tables. Found myself at Bayview Park after an impromptu decision to take my dog out for a short hike…read moresomewhere that was about 10 min away. The park is located in the southern part of the Bayview neighborhood close to the water and Bayview freeway. The entrance is a bit discreet but is found at the end of a neighborhood street that ends in a dead end. I went at around 3pm on a weekday and found street parking right at the end of the street. I don't recall having to pay for a meter. The hike itself is about a 1.5 mile loop with a bit of an incline in the beginning that'll get your legs and glutes warmed up. once you make it to the top of that incline and circle the loop, you'll get really nice views of SF, South Bay, the water, and Twin Peaks. The distance itself was perfect for a quick stroll with a path that's distinguishable and there were only 2 people I came across. If you are walking a pet though, there is one area with some big rocks near a ledge with cool views that i advise caution as there was a lot of broken glass by the rocks. If you live in the area, like within 10-15 min, it's not a bad hike.

The distance was just right for a five and seven year old in a group. For our 3-year-old she did need to be carried for about half of it. POPULARITY Not very crowded at all! We saw just a couple other people over 1-2 hours. It was a very warm, sunny Sunday in early July. SHADE The route had medium shade - there are tall trees all around, but if the sun is right overhead, you'll get sun exposure. PARKING & AMENITIES No dedicated parking lot, no water or restrooms, there were several parking spots right at the trailhead around 1pm on a Sunday. STROLLER-FRIENDLY While you could do the entire hike on paved paths, the first section going up to the loop is very very steep and the pavement is not very well preserved with a lot of potholes so I was actually glad we did not bring our stroller. ADD'L INFO In July the plant life is quite dry and sticks to clothing so I should have worn tougher hiking pants rather than my nice yoga pants, which ended up covered in burrs. There are a couple side trails (unpaved) you can take for extra viewpoints as well as one to go to the peak of the mountain.

We had a lovely birthday here for our toddlers and so many people commented that they had no idea this park existed. This is also one of the parks that allows a bouncy house permit. For those who needed a restroom, they could go down the hill a couple long blocks to Whole Foods, or some used the trails for privacy. We also brought some toddler potties for the kids. PROS - Amazing views of the city & even Golden Gate Bridge! Lovely sunset views as well. - There are some nice trails going down the hill. - There's a community garden. - The playground's fully enclosed. - The playground seems to include some toys donated by the neighborhood, which is a nice touch! For example some plastic ride on cars, activity tables, etc. - There's a large field for dogs to play. - Tons tons tons of parking. CONS - Some noise from the 101. - There is no restroom.

It's very short so nothing to come out of your way for but it's good for an add on to Glen Canyon Park or walking around after dinner in Glen Park. Checkout the beautiful Burnside Mural and mosaic stairs. The stairs are done by the same artists that designed the 16th Avenue Tiled Steps. To make the walk longer take the Burnside steps up to Dorothy Erskine Park which has great views of Excelsior. From here, loop around with the stairs on Hamerton, this walk is a little over a mile.
