After some quick googling I found Lavender and put myself on the waitlist for the next two days, assuming there was no chance I'd get an opening. I was thrilled when I got an email about an opening, but less thrilled about the price - I've gone to plenty of high end salons, but this was going to be about 1/3 more than I've ever paid to get my hair cut. But desperate times call for desperate measures and this hair needed cutting. The salon itself is beautiful with lush plants everywhere. The owner, Laurel, spent more time working to understand my hair (wavy with a mind of its own) and lifestyle (low-maintenance, no time to spend on hair) than anyone ever has. Ultimately I told her I didn't know what I wanted and was open to ideas. Our conversation during the cut was nice and not forced, which is not always the case with hair appointments. I felt like she really "got" me - when she finished my cut it was pretty perfect. She knew that I'd want it long enough to tuck behind my ears, even though we hadn't even discussed that. She knew how to cut it in such a way that it would wear well even with my laziness about my hair. She gave me some quick styling tips without pushing products on me. It was a great experience. Several months later and it's still looking fantastic. Again, the price definitely made me hesitate but since I rarely get my hair cut I could rationalize. I'd absolutely go back next time I'm in Portland.

Even from our first consultation, we exchanged contact information and before my first appointment had time for me to send pictures from Pinterest of what I wanted my dyed hair to look like. Not only that, but she then did her own looking online to find similar ideas and photos to send to me to really verify that she was certain about the specific look I was going for. You can feel that they really CARE about how your look turns out here, which is a nice feeling - instilled from the first moment I walked in and was immediately offered a drink while I waited on a comfortable couch for my appointment to start. (their shop is SO CUTE.) When it came to actually getting the hair dyed and trimmed, again the process was very communicative and all about MY input on what I wanted, which was great. Natalie also is a joy to talk to and kept me entertained with a string of friendly conversation the whole way through. Price-wise, I have had my hair dyed at a fair amount of places and this was definitely the cheapest, by at least $30-$40 dollars, yet I had not a single complaint with my hair and have been so incredibly happy with how the dyeing turned out. If you want a place that actually listens to your requests and values communication, has a cozy and home-y aesthetic, and is not going to be the biggest burden on your wallet, check out Natalie at Gloss. A long time client of Miss Kelley has followed her to this new location. Easy access off of highway…read more95 within minutes you arrive. In the same parking lot as Howell's gun and target store. Plenty of parking here. Entrance is easy to see and handicap accessible. Kelley's station is the first, closest to the door. They have a small sitting area where you can find refreshments while you wait. Bathroom is right there as well. Multiple booths for stylists and at the back is the nail technician section. Many colors and styles of nail paints are available. Two sinks for washing or rinsing of hair. One stylist does extensions of every color and length you could want. Hours are good for me since I live/work in Portland. I will continue to support Miss Kelley for as long as she will have me. Thank you for taking such good care of me
