Upon arrival we found a filthy bathroom . when a man has to clean the toilet before being able to…read moreuse it, you know its bad.....and there was a huge wad of long hair on the floor and the shower was obviously filthy. Giving credit, where credit is due, the staff came immediately to clean the bathroom, after I trudged down to the office to request this service. The property is poorly maintained, a couple of roofs obviously sagging, hose, mower and broken stepstool laying around by the fish cleaning house all week long. The inside pine work on the walls was shoddy as was the caulking around the shower etc. The office/store only sells sweatshirts, hats and fuel for the boats. No grocery items of any kind, not even a snack vending machine. . Our group rented two cabins . Not once during the entire week's stay did any of the staff come to find out if we needed anything, if we were comfortable..... They also never serviced the cabins. Not once! Nor did any of the staff nor the proprietors give any of us a "thank you" for renting from them - not even when we checked out. After all common courtesy goes a long way, but that was missing as well. I did not feel welcomed and I will not be returning there - definitely did not get my moneys worth .. This Sandbay Resort of today is a far cry from the beautiful and well kept resort of fifteen years ago. There are many gorgeous resorts around that area, better maintained, better furnished -including towels which were not provided here - and less expensive.

Very clean cabins, great service, clear and sandy water, and just a great value money wise to take a family. We all cross out the calendar until the next visit. People who like to fish this is for you. If you want to…read morerelax by the lake, swim, fish and have some quiet time, you can do it all here. We were invited to come along with some friends to this resort to fish. They have come up here for years and years. We loaded up to stay a week in a cabin. The cabins have the bare essentials. You get a toaster, a coffee pot, a full kitchen. There are some cooking essentials, but you want to bring what you think you'll need. We arrived a little early before or friends on Friday evening. I knew this place had good vibes as soon as we parked. Hundreds of dragonflies filled the air. They danced around us as we went up to the office. The resort owner was in the office. He came out to greet us. He gave us a run down of the resort. He showed us where laundry, trash, recycle, fish cleaning, parking, the cabin, and anything else we need was. We made our way to our cabin. The cabins are different sizes. Ours was a two bedroom cabin. Nice common area, with table, heater, futon, and room to hang out. I bowl of fruit awaits you on the table with the welcome letter. We were in cabin #1. The wind coming off the lake blew right into our cabin for a beautiful breeze. The air flow through this cabin is great. We did happen to pack a fan and used it in the bedroom. Each bedroom in this cabin had a full sized bed, closet, and dresser. Perfect for us, and our friends and their young son. The cabins each have their own seating area that over looks beautiful lake Clitherall. Could be a picnic table or chairs around a fire pit. There is shared access down to the boat dock. Boat slips for rent. You could rent a small boat too if needed. Swim or fish off the dock. This is big ice Fisher area in the winter. Just so quiet and beautiful. A couple cats roam the resort being good hunters. They were very sweet kitties and came to visit multiple times over the week. I loved it here. Perfect for our get away fishing trip. When it came time for our friends to switch cabins we helped them move into cabin #7. This one was a 3 bedroom. Not as good air flow, but bigger. What I noticed as we checked out the other cabins that my friends family was staying in was that each had their own rustic charm. Each had their own decorations, different drapes, different dishes, different furniture. All had a hand made fish spoon dish on the stove with the Old Town Resort on it. Each had a Old Town Resort soap in the bathroom. I loved the charm here. I already told hubby I would come back to this resort for another fishing trip. Just a quiet escape away from everything. Walking distance from a cute coffee house and play area for kids.

I've been coming here since 1982 and my parents prior. They haven't missed a year (besides likely…read moreCovid). It was once a gem and I would love to see it get back to how it was. However, I can tell there are improvements in the works compared to even last year which is promising. Pros: *Our group of 8 stayed in the townhomes which were clean and they were in the process of remodeling/staining the outside. *The beach is better than it's ever looked. It's larger, clean and no goose poop. There were two individuals cleaning it while my daughter was playing on the zip line. *Although we weren't here Saturday, I saw they have live music at the outdoor bar most Saturday's. *grounds overall were clean. However, the family who checked out the day we arrived left a large empty wine box on a grill outside our place and that was not cleaned up during our stay. Would love better attention to detail! *new manager-I hope he addresses people's concerns quickly as I read recent reviews and customer service was lacking including lack of response of follow up. He was friendly and seemed attentive! *water park was closed but they were actively working on it while we were here. Ideas for improvement: *Bring back the drink of the day special at the Deck bar-My mom and I always enjoyed trying a new $5 drink in the past each day while at the pool (usually something like a Mai tai, pina colada, etc). *Properly stock the bar -I wanted a pina colada Sunday night and another family member wanted something else and they were out of many things. Bartender was nice but didn't know how to make some drinks including a Mai tai. However the drink I ordered was delicious! Pricey drinks though and our group thought there wasn't much alcohol in them. If you are going to charge fancy bartender prices, have a stocked bar and well trained bartender. Otherwise, lower them. We aren't in New York. $16 for a Long Island in Alexandria is a bit much. *Get new chairs/lounge chairs at the pool. Both the indoor and outdoor pool had broken plastic deck chairs which both felt dangerous and were an eye sore. *Have someone walking the pool areas every hour or two to clean up the pool area. Overall clean but I saw what appeared to be a manager or owner walking by some garbage (wrapper on a table) and some messed up cushions at the outdoor pool area and he didn't do anything. *Clean up the ground under the zip line area. There needs to be new wood chips added and weeds removed. I walked into some stickers (weeks) that were painful. *Fix the windows in the townhome. We would have loved to open the windows at night and they didn't seem to open. *Have a local from Alexandria who is familiar with the resort and its history to help bring this report back to how it used to be. The grounds etc are beautiful but it's lacking what it used to be. *There is a light by the outdoor volleyball courts that has been crooked and bent for years. It's an eye sore, looks like it could fall any minute and shows neglect due to no one fixing it for years. *My dad loves playing mini golf every year but the course is falling apart! It's a wonderful part of the property and I hope it's fixed soon. *in ground sprinklers were watering the sidewalks near our townhome more than the grass. *Lower prices of lodging and food at least until you get back on your feet. Arrowwood is quite high compared to nearby resorts who have beautiful lodging and property.
