Just a terrible waste of time! Called, spoke to the old man (owner) who answered phone, I explained I did not live in the area but was a few miles nearby. Have all the required documents and a job for past 25 years, bank statements, etc. He tells me "OK, just come in, no problem, we can help you out." I go there next day at 9 a.m. - he shows up late to open the door A woman looks at my documents and ID and says "No, you don't live in Hollywood, sorry, can't help you." !I told her the owner said that did not matter. Hollywood Check Cashing is a brand new installment to the Ross/711 stripmall on the corner of Sunset and La Brea that hasn't seen any new installments in a while (since the failed, and horrible Chinese place right on the corner..). HCC replaces a worn out H&R Block, and before that I don't even remember what was there - but it probably wasn't good! I decided to give them a try the other day to make my rent money orders. They are on the way to work for me, and more importantly on the way to 711 to get energy drinks to survive work. I loved everything about HCC and decided by the end of the visit they need to be my new go to money order place. The gentleman that helped me was also the owner and he was letting me know that they just opened (about 2 weeks ago), about his other business (also a CC place), and we just shared some general chit chat about the other services they offer. I paid my rent in all $20's (oh, about 55 of them) and he had no problem with my annoying habit of paying over a thousand dollars in almost the most annoying bill ever (good thing they weren't $5's huh!) Another thing I really liked about HCC is the cleanliness of the establishment. It doesn't look like other CC places with falling/peeling "buy phone cards here!" posters and chipped wall paint. It is new, clean, fresh.... The owner was saying they will be getting a Western Union at that location soon, and they offer a Yelp check in offer. They have a big parking lot too so I am always able to find parking, and they're open on weekends which is very convenient when I can't make it to the bank. My advice to anyone is to avoid this place by all means. The old guy behind the counter is mean, acting smart and desrespectful. I was fighting my former employer in court for unpaid wages for 6 months and finaly when I got what I've earned I went to this place to cash what was mine. When I went infront of the window I handed him the check, he looked at it and asked me infront of everyone, who gave me the paycheck and what was the reason for it. Wow, like why the hell do you care what was the reason, how I got it and who gave ot to me, was it really that important to you or you just tried to embarrasse me somehow?! Anyways, then he tried to verify the check for 40 minutes over the phone, a paycheck with water marks, stamps and the extention of the paper sheet, the same paycheck he put trough a check reader and it seemed alright. After a painful waiting and moments of embarrassment he said he can cash it. But he never told me how much it'll cost to cash it, no receipt, he just threw the bills on the counter. I was alredy too pissed to look back, so I took the money and I walked out. After all, when I went back home, I saw that one of the $100 bill was ripped off, not much, but enough to be denied by the gas station, the supermarket and the restaurant I dine in almost every week. I'd gone to a California Check Cashing location on Glenoaks in Pacoima and was not allowed to cash 3 business checks that were in my name because they weren't within the last 2 weeks. It was a HUGE inconvenient runaround and I was treated like a criminal by their employees who have much to learn when it comes to customer service. Luckily I went online and found Hollywood Check Cashing. I went and spoke to Guy who was very friendly and accomodating. I get that using a check cashing place rather than a bank means that the requirements are more strict but it was very nice to be treated with some dignity despite the difficult circumstances that made it necessary for me to go there. This place is not professional at all. I think the staff changed because there are two young girls working with a bad attitude. Despite their late arrival and opening of the business, they were rude and mistreated the people waiting to enter the business. They refused to help a man because he appeared to be homeless. They told him they would help him. I intervened and tried to help by telling the girls they shouldn't be mistreat the man just because he looked homeless as they said. They were then quick to try to eject me from the location for voicing my discontent with how they were treating the man. They refused to help me and told me to leave as well. As I left, the younger was being vulgar and used profanity.
