Honestly, 2.5 stars but I have to round down for the bad service. Actually, let me start here. Sal's a good guy. He knows his product and he's surprisingly patient when trying customers come in . . . More patient than I am with them when they interrupt my shopping. His prices and selection are good too. HOWEVER He's not always there and he continues to employ the most incredibly rude girl. Since I'm west side, I always call in to see if they have what I'm looking for before I order from JJ's and she ALWAYS says something rude to me. For example, "hey, what do you have in the way of packable panamas? Borsalino, preferably, but I'm flexible" "I have an idea, why don't you just put it on your head". She's JJ's best salesman, I swear. Anyway, if I'm in the area and I see Sal in, I'll pop in otherwise I tend to skip it. But you do you. read more

Disappointing. I visited looking for lightweight hats. 90% of stock was very fall and heavy. It was April. When I did find some suitable for my cruise I spent over $300. Claudia, the salesperson, charged me $10 more for one hat than it was marked. When I came back to show her this error she refused to make an adjustment. I came here with my Bros one Saturday in search of a hat... a top hat, a very friendly lovely young lady greeted us and assisted me particularly in finding the right top hat for my event. She gave some suggestions and options which I very much appreciate ( while my two comrades browsed and tried on all sorts of hats to their enjoyment ) after trying on 3 kinds of top hats, I decided on one of moderate height and fits my head right. The price is moderate so it won't break the bank, for the quality and service I got, I thought it's well worth the price besides it's a novelty hat so being above the amount of a regular baseball cap is already a given. Great visit to Hollywood Hatters - a relaxed, no-pressure place to select attractive hats for your needs! We (not very hat-savvy) dropped by this place after reviewing various hat shops around the area - some were hard to get to, some felt unapproachable and overwhelming, and finally we found Hollywood Hatters, which had good reviews online. Metered street parking is available. Upon entry we were greeted by a gentleman and a lady, who were friendly and arranging the stacks on stacks of hats! The place is smallish, but feels cozy and the hat selection looks so inviting. We were there to find a replacement cap for my husband, and as our stay grew longer, the lady helped us cheerily, showing us the selection of colors and styles (newsboy, vs driving cap, vs something with a more military style), and the arrangement of caps by size, showing us to a mirror. "And a hat for you, the lady?" she asks - even though we weren't there for me, it was nice to be acknowledged there too! The man let us know that if we were in between hat sizes, they would be happy to stretch out the smaller size for us for a better fit. The lady showed us the stretching machine in the corner for good measure! "Visit us again!" We walked away with two elegant caps for my partner and we felt great about the purchase and service, did not feel pressured and had a good experience being allowed to browse at our own pace with a stylish selection of hats, but also with a helpful person available to answer any questions we had. Huge selection of hats. I wanted a planters style hat for an upcoming cruise and so I searched around and made our way up to Hollywood Hatters. I use a power wheelchair and found the store a bit of a tight squeeze to get into and to move around. This is due to the huge inventory of hats. But Claudia the salesperson was super helpful and moved boxes etc for me. Claudia did a great job helping me find the right hat and she provided excellent customer service and explained the history and background on Panama hats. I went the next day and was pleasantly met by Sal. They have a wide variety and tons of hats. I stopped by here last month because I was looking for a specific type of hat to wear on vacation. Specifically, I needed a straw hat that fit snug and perfect because I was going on a ship and wanted to wear a hat that wouldn't fly off my head and also didn't have one of those lifeguard type draw strings attached. The lady at the front desk found me a very stylish hat and then used the hat stretching device to give me a perfect fit. I wore the hat every day on the ship and the wind never stood a chance. They have a great selection from straw hats to felt and hats for both adventure and style. If you want to physically try hats on, look in the mirror, and shop for fit, this is a great shop. read more

DO NOT BUY A HAT FROM THIS PLACE ON LINE! I purchased two identical hats from this place. One fits and the other is at least a size or two too small. I contacted the shop immediately upon receipt of the hats. When I called the shop to arrange for an exchange, the girl there quickly tells you that she cannot approve exchanges or returns and I have to speak to Sal the owner (who apparently is seldom in the shop). She then gives me the owners email address (but no phone number when I asked), and after four or five emails and four phone calls to the shop, Sal finally responded to an email saying that he will check his inventory and that he's sorry it didn't fit. After following up with several more emails, all communications went dead. I got the feeling that he was trying to wind the clock down until he could tell me it was too late to do a return or exchange. All I wanted as an exchange!!! This place has no regard for Customer Service and is certainly not interested in any repeat business. If you need to buy a hat online, I can highly recommend several other shops that i've purchased from in the past and were an absolute pleasure to deal with. Try Salmagundi in Boston, JJ Hat Center in New York, Holland hats in Connecticut, or the Village Hat shop. If you purchase from Hollywood Hatters online and have any minor issue with your hat, REMEMBER THAT YOU WERE WARNED!!! Follow-up; Amazing that you responded to this review within minutes of the posting (the same as the Google review), but I couldn't get the time of day from you when I needed customer service. You never told me HOW to return or exchange the hat. The hat shop employee specifically told me that all returns and exchanges were handled by you off-site and not at the shop. Now you call me crazy? A purveyor of fine, luxury hats, Hollywood Hatters has a unique and vast selection of hats for any and every occasion. Sure to make even a Texan gush. I came in town for a show, and one of my traditions is to get a new hat to commemorate my trip. This time, I went with a 4X Buffalo felt from the American Buffalo Collection line by Stetson; the Austral in Bark. I ordered the hat online and picked up in the store, which is where I had my first encounter with LA's Official Hat Dr. Justyn aka "The Hat Dr." shook my hand and looked me in the eye when he greeted me--and important part of conducting business--then proceeded to show me around the store, unbeknownst to him that I had already made my selection hours before entering. After I was done perusing the wonders that adorned the wall and making mental notes of all the headpieces I coveted, I brought my Stetson up to the counter. The Dr.'s perch was modest, the scalpels, tools and operating table had a vintage flavor to them, indicative of countless operations by a smooth operator. Nice selection. The woman there was nice but the owner - that's another story. Call it fake nice, transactionally nice. This place is also chaos, worst customer service. He was talking with us then ignored us mid conversation to hit on a woman and follows her around! We were promised he would steam form a hat we selected for our wedding. Come back Friday he says I'll have it done - he hadn't done anything by Friday in fact he forgot. We beg our wedding is in 2 weeks. More promises from his staff. Zero follow through, know one knows what's going on there. You're basically at McDonalds with staff that's confused about basic things we asked for like "can we leave him a message." Call him after that - impossible to reach. We're told to email him, no response. We're told we will call you back. No call back. Then we go back - they have no idea where the hat is. read more

She was alone in the store with several customers, but acknowledged each one and took time with each of us making sure our questions were answered and we felt attended to.
