I like it very much! My kids going to YMCA Hollywood to swimming lessons and Fernando is the best!!! It's a very good place for hole family to do sport and different activities! High recommend

Parking attendant said lot closes 11pm Saturday, I returned at 9:30pm and lot closed. Attendants need to be more aware of actual open hours.

This is more of a complaint on the MPI parking for YMCA on Cassil Place. I parked there at 6pm Saturday. The parking attendant told me the gate would close at 11pm. I returned at 9:30pm and the gate was locked. I was frustrated because he told me very clearly that it closed at 11pm. I ubered back to my apartment and the next morning ubered back to the parking lot. I get there and am about to drive out when another attendant comes up to me and tells me that because my car was parked there overnight I would have to pay an additional $10. I explained my situation and that I had been told that it would be open until 11pm. She was not really understanding of the situation and persisted to ask for $10. She explained that the YMCA closes at 7pm. I suggest that the attendants know the actual hours that the lot is open. I would not have parked there had I known it would have closed at 7pm. I spent about $60 including the parking fees and ubering back and forth. Waste of time and money.

Walking in circles getting exercise. Where to find a restroom in Hollywood..... Awwe me gawd. AhhH, yellow hibiscus bushes. Wait, a sign, "HOLLYWOOD YMCA!" Hollywood YMCA my pee savior. This place was pretty upscale. The place looks spacious. It's a little old. Very clean. Omg, I think there are pools in here. Looking around as I wait in line. I had to sign in and leave ID at the front desk. Great security measures. 1-day gym pass $25 Monthly pass varies due to age from $35 to $50 I like the YMCA. Okay, maybe... just this Hollywood location.

Ask the Community - Hollywood Wilshire YMCA

How much is membership fees? Do they have membership contracts?

73 for families not sure how much for individuals. No contracts

Does YMCA have bumper plates and an area to do deadlifting? If not proper bumper plates, are there at least circular rubber plates for this purpose? How many squat racks are there? Are the squat racks equipped with safety pins and barbell clips?

They have one pair of 10lb faux bumper plates. There is one full squat rack on the second floor and a smith machine on the third. Plenty of safeties on the one of the second floor and they recently added more collars, included spring loaded.

Do they have coed shower facilities?

Lol... I don't think so. They do have family area with showers.

Anna at Hall Swim Academy is an excellent teacher…read more Two years ago, my son (who was 7 at the time) was going to another swim school and was doing ok but advancing slowly. As part of that school's safety training, they threw him in the water wearing street clothes. He was doing ok for about 30 seconds but then panicked and started to sink so one of the teachers had to jump in and pull him out. (It was partially my fault since I mistakenly had him wear long pants that absorbed water). Anyhow, he freaked out and got very scared. We continued to go to that school for several more weeks but he stagnated with his training and the teacher became frustrated and tried to push him too hard so he had a melt down. Fast forward two years, I started taking him to the Hall Swim Academy west LA location about 2 months ago and he started trying again to learn how to swim with Anna. Anna is extremely kind and patient with kids. She demonstrates what she wants him to do and corrects mistakes in his floating and swim strokes and has him repeat as necessary. She is able to recognize how much to push and when to give him more space and repeats instructions as necessary. He loves going to swim class with Anna and is motivated to learn so he can swim with his friends at summer camp. Yesterday, he had two major breakthroughs. He spent most of the class in the pool without wearing goggles which he previously refused to do. Then, on his own, he decided he wanted to try the swim test. So, he put on street clothes over his swim suit, jumped in the water, floated on his back for 20 seconds and then easily swam to the side of the pool and climbed out on his own. He was so proud of himself for overcoming his fear and is now looking forward to his next class with Anna. I am very grateful to Anna for her kindness, professionalism, excellent teaching skills and being such a good motivator. Thank you!!

What became clear very quickly is that these are young instructors with little to no experience working with children and a limited understanding of how to handle common situations that arise in a pool setting. In one instance, as a "safety exercise" the coach had my 9-year-old daughter to swim with her eyes covered with the swim cap. After my daughter became visibly upset, cried, and explained that she felt anxious and her heart was racing, the coach continued to push the exercise. I asked the coach to let it go for the time being and she agreed, but minutes later told my daughter that she would have to do it next time regardless of how she felt. Anyone working with children, especially in a swimming environment, should have at least basic training in recognizing and responding appropriately to anxiety. The coach's approach showed a lack of understanding, empathy, and judgment. This experience was unacceptable. I would not recommend spending your money here. The school appears to invest very little in properly training and preparing its instructors to work with children.
