I was considering returning as a member to the Y after so many years, and i am just so sad that it is not to be. How could they flub the locker room renovation so badly? As another review stated, what was once a fantastic space is now relegated to a claustrophobic cavern not even 1/3 of its previous size. I can't imagine what it's like during busy hours. I've been a fan of this place since 2014, and when Covid hit they closed it and remodeled/reorganized it. Everything they did is garbage, and if anyone is donating to them anymore, those donations appear to be wasted. It's in a beautiful historic building from the 1900s, and they're using the best and biggest workout room with historic ceilings as a gosh darn storage room. Storage room!!!!! For dusty chairs and junk! How is that helping or serving the community? The person running this place is a scammer! I was always proud to support the YMCA and particularly this location, but please YMCA management, look into the person in charge of this location and fire them! It makes me disappointed and honestly angry to see what this location has become. Oh, and the kids center? Just a packed up room that's only open on Saturday mornings? Come on. A big fancy room for kids and parents with no kids in it???? With no programs going on???? What a scam!!!!! Fire Merton Harris. Fire him!!! Finally. After 3 years. The Hollywood YMCA is OPEN. The renovations are amazing. You walk in and you will think you are at the Equinox. Parking is practically free. 3 hours for 1 dollar. Where else can you park anywhere in Los Angeles for three hours for just 4 quarters. Let me break it down to you. The church across the street is charging 15 dollars for parking. And not even 10 feet away is a gym charging you 1 dollar for three hours with gym validation. The staff is friendly and patient. Why do I say they are patient? Because they have to deal with me and I can be a very exhausting person. The equipment is brand spanking new. So do yourself the favor. Resign from whatever planet fitness membership you currently have. And enroll yourself to this gym ASAP. read more

The remodel looks good but they totally flubbed it with usage logistics. New Locker rooms are about a third of the size. Maybe a 15x15 room with 4 small benches total. What happens when a place with 2 basketball courts and even more exercise rooms than before has a game or league or camp end at the same time as a class and early evening workouts ? I'll tell you. About 50 naked people trying to change in a very small room with nowhere to sit or place their things. Awkward and uncomfortable and loud. 6 showers total. SIX! Private stalls so people get lost in their zone and don't realize that there's a line now for showers (There used to be about 20). At a gym who now wants to add a huge outdoor athletic area as well. I'm shocked by the poor design. It's got to be some sort of record for the ratio of locker room space to facility size. They decided to get rid of the women's locker room so they could build a ... a theater. A theater?!! I'm sorry what?? First and foremost, this a a gym. Where people come to exercise. They've eliminated the most fundamental part of the facility. Where one begins and ends and needs time and space to sort themselves. You don't stop doing what you're doing to add more and mess up what you had going. Someone who doesn't actually use the place got some harebrained idea that they want to make it more interesting, an impressive showpiece, and forgot the basics. And then somehow somebody else who sits on some management board also didn't really think it through. Probably because they're thinking about how they can show people what they've created in a portfolio rather than how to make a facility actually usable. Form over function, FAIL. Once the membership numbers improve I don't see myself continuing my membership. The locker room is the size of my bedroom. For an entire massive health Facility. There are large wide entrances and hallways with plenty of berth and they cramped up the main space where you're supposed to take off your clothes. Foolish. There's no place to hang a towel outside the steam and sauna. That can be fixed. There's no hose in the steam room and so of course it's totally grimy, hair and filth all over the floor. And it's still the soft opening with not too many people. Can that be fixed? Only one classic exercise bike in the cardio machine room. One. Only one classic benchpress bench in the weight room. One. 3 years closed and the pool still isn't big enough to swim serious laps in. 20yards maybe? My lock didn't fit on the locker. Small little slot. Great. The whole place is so spacious all throughout, all the workout spaces and they flubbed the locker rooms. I was really looking forward to using the Y again but I think these lockers rooms are a dealbreaker. read more

There has been ZERO outreach to members about what they plan on doing to prevent the spread of viruses, currently COVID-19. This is sickening and disgraceful since they send out so many emails about the current building renovations. This location has a reputation for falling well below the standards of cleanliness. Additionally, this location caters to men's (men dominated) activities and improving the equipment and facilities they use. The PILATES / GRAVITY equipment (the best equipment in the entire gym) is scheduled to be entirely removed because they supposedly don't have the money to replace parts or equipment yet somehow have the money to replace the basketball courts flooring and get more of the same weight machines that are abundant in the facility. The money is also going toward remodeling their offices which I suppose will look better, but doesn't help a single member improve their health. This just further demonstrates the repeated failure of this YMCA to prioritize their members and to support their mission statement which is 'healthy living and social responsibility'. Their actions, and inactions, speak otherwise. read more

I really wanted to give this YMCA a good review, but unfortunately I just can't. I spent many hours at this Y as a kid for swim team practices and absolutely loved it. When I started working nearby I was excited to come back and work out here. Sadly this Y has completely deteriorated since I was last here. The facilities are run down, and completely filthy. I'm not even talking about old equipment, which I really don't mind- I'm talking about a thick layer of fuzzy dust that coats most of the building. Worst of all is their pool. I'm an avid swimmer and regularly swim at many of the beautiful public pools throughout the city along with the pool at the DTLA YMCA, all of which adhere to the exact same lap swimming etiquette. The Hollywood Y apparently has other ideas about how to run a pool. The lanes are split in half with no circling (which would allow multiple people to use the lanes) so swimming laps typically requires a wait and then once you're in the pool there is a 30 min limit on swimming laps. Ridiculous for anyone serious about getting a full workout in. Oh, and the pool is as filthy as the rest of the facility. read more

This is more of a complaint on the MPI parking for YMCA on Cassil Place. I parked there at 6pm Saturday. The parking attendant told me the gate would close at 11pm. I returned at 9:30pm and the gate was locked. I was frustrated because he told me very clearly that it closed at 11pm. I ubered back to my apartment and the next morning ubered back to the parking lot. I get there and am about to drive out when another attendant comes up to me and tells me that because my car was parked there overnight I would have to pay an additional $10. I explained my situation and that I had been told that it would be open until 11pm. She was not really understanding of the situation and persisted to ask for $10. She explained that the YMCA closes at 7pm. I suggest that the attendants know the actual hours that the lot is open. I would not have parked there had I known it would have closed at 7pm. I spent about $60 including the parking fees and ubering back and forth. Waste of time and money. read more

I come here regularly for my dodgeball league. I only come here for dodgeball so I can't comment on the rest of the facilities. The gym we use is on the 2nd floor. It's very spacious and the perfect size for dodgeball. There are bleacher seats and huge curtains to separate the courts. Sometimes it gets way too hot but they seem to have fixed the a/c. The water fountains work well, the bathrooms are clean and well stocked, I haven't had any issues. The women's locker room is big. The staff has been friendly whenever I arrive and leave. Parking is easy. It costs $1 for 3 hours with YMCA validation if you enter the lot on Cassil. Bring cash! read more

Honestly, I've never stepped inside a YMCA until just recently. I didn't realize it was such a GREAT place to work out. When I lived in OC I was a member of Equinox which is a pretty expensive gym at about $150/mo. I will admit I like the fancy stuff and have expensive taste in just about everything. Now I am trying to prioritize my spending and I also wanted to get away from the frou-frou places and be around a normal, chill environment. I did a radius search for a gym within walking distance for me. I had an option of LA fitness, 24 Hour Sport and the YMCA. It was the easiest decision to make...the Y all the way. I first went online and got a 1 week free pass. I walked up to the counter and met the friendliest guy who set me up with my pass and had one of the trainers give me a tour. Wow! It was spacious - big pool, raquetball court, indoor basketball court, and a few weight rooms. The guys who work out in the weight room with the boxing bags look like they are actual boxers (and I've been told they are!). The weight room which ended up being my favorite is small but the machines are linked to a computer system that tracks everything for you. It's called Fitlinxx and I can tell you that none of the other gyms I've checked out had anything like this. I can even access it from home and add other workouts I do manually. To me, the best part of the Y are the fitness classes. They have many different classes daily. My favorite is the gravity class which is like pilates reformer. It's tough and the machines are awesome. I must also mention that the fitness instructors are great and seem to love teaching these classes. I also see a lot of people enjoying their yoga and spin class A few people I mentioned that I went to the Y looked at me with confusion as to why I would be part of the Y. Note that it isn't super cheap at $52 a month. I believe this amount is adjusted based on income which I really like as well. I get to be around a diverse group of people of all races and income level. It isn't a meat market, nobody is there for attention and I also have fun trying to figure out who the familiar faces are (usually from TV shows). Hey, it's Hollywood!! Another plus is that they provide towels. They have big towels for the shower area and small towels all around the facility. It makes things so much more convenient. Since the location is just one block from both Sunset and Hollywood Blvd, there is the issue of parking. But wait!!! There isn't an issue, they have 2 lots you can park at - $1 for 3 hours with validation. One lot is off Cassil Street and the other is on the corner of Selma/Schrader. If you are looking for a low key yet workout friendly environment with a diverse group of people, try the one week free pass at the Hollywood Y. You might end up a member just like me! read more

Finally! A gym where DBTRP (douche bag to regular people) ratio is less than 3 to 1. This is a great neighborhood gym. ALl the equipment that 24 and LA have at a smaller scale. However, not as busy and everything is clean and classy. They make amazing use of their space and I've never had an issue getting on a machine I needed. 2 gyms! Pool, racket ball.... its got everything AND friendly staff and cliental which LA/24 do not have.... It's fun to play at the YMCA! Oh yeah, they have a sliding scale of payment. If you're rich you pay a reasonable fee, if you're poor, you pay much less. If you're anything in between, they'll fund a a fair price for you. read more

The first thing I should do here is apologize. For what I did. The last two times I went to this gym, I had hotdogs for dinner. So I spent my workout "discreetly" burping up hotdoggity goodness. I'm sure that stench soaked into the carpets and warped the walls. So...uh...yeah, sorry to any of you who walk in and simultaneously heave and suffocate. Anyway, this place kinda kicks butt. The layout is a bit weird - segmented into lots of smaller areas, but I really enjoy it. You can people watch without having your agoraphobia kick in. It's clean, the membership is cheap, and the parking is cheap ($1!). The only downside is when people bring their kids and don't control them, or when the pool is full. I came here a lot years ago, but now usually go to the valley. My first visit back and I had to pay for parking. So, Ichecked my kids into child watch and they took my drivers license. Went to a locker and put my bag in it and used a combination lock. Used the elliptical and came down to change for the pool. Was gone about 15 minutes. My locker was broken in to and my bag was searched. Nothing was taken, except my padlock...I reported the incident but nothing really happened. What could they do? They said it happens enough and recommended a better padlock. I skipped the pool, and went to get my kids. While picking up my kids was distracted and forgot to get my drivers license. Later when I called, they did not have my license. And are certain they gave it to me because if they didn't, they would have it. Since they don't have it they must have given it to me...more no help. Grateful I was even able to get my kids back, honestly... Over all, a pretty terrible experience for me. Won't be going back, unless my drivers license shows up. :( read more

Maybe it's just my own personal preference, but I prefer these old school historic facilities vs a brand new gym. Being here makes me feel like I'm in an another era. The character of the building, which was built back in the 20's is well maintained. Don't worry, their gym equipment is all updated. They have just about everything you could want in a gym; multiple basketball courts, fitness and cardio rooms, areas to relax, multiple pools, spas and more. It's a sprawling facility with three floors. It will take to awhile to get your bearings in there. They have a giant locker room with the steam and sauna inside both the male and females side which I love! It's almost like a Korean Spa, and people seem to use it as such. Not an issue if you're comfortable with nudity. The lockers are a little rusted out but they work fine. Bring your own locks. They offer towel service for a fee or you can bring your own. I signed up after years of using 24 hr fitness, and I've been to the Y as a kid but now 20 years later, I'm happy and proud to be a member of the Hollywood YMCA! read more

I've been going here for two years. Their machines are always broken and some of the staff has a really bad attitude. I came at 6:40 on a Saturday, a woman greeted me as I walked in and I was able to go upstairs and use the treadmill upstairs. 8 minutes in this guy tells me that they are not officially open and lectures me for not knowing this despite being greeted by a woman and the door being open. Dirty, lockers are rusted out and have cockroaches living under them, steam room is often smelly and dry sauna is the same as they let people hang their sweaty gym clothes in it to dry, both are rarely cleaned, pool deck has no floor safety mats and is often dirty and slippery, they've hired a bunch of new people for the front that seem more interested in each other than the members, they closed the pools for a month with 1-day notice-- not telling the lifeguarding staff or regulars ahead of time-- and there is zero communication from management via email unless they want to ask for money. On top of that, they're allowing homeless to encamp directly in front of the property and use drugs while children and parents come and go. I'm a former YMCA board member-- not at this Y-- and there is absolutely no excuse for this. It's only out of loyalty to the mission of the YMCA and the fact there are a couple of people who care that I don't give it 1 star. read more

The only thing it needs is a friendly ghost. There has to be a 1920's starlet who threw herself from the roof somewhere nearby, right? She could maybe encourage you on the elliptical by calling you "portly", like her agent did? Somebody figure out how to engineer a helpful haunting. - Classes, classes, and more classes. Have I ever taken any of these classes? No, for I am shy and lazy. Do I look at the schedule every month and marvel at the breadth of opportunities? Yes. - Nooks and crannies. Remember the aforementioned shyness? I don't like to workout with 45 pairs of well-toned eyeballs* staring and judging every jiggly step I take.Thankfully, there are many little coves and corners to workout at the Hollywood Y, away from the prying eyes of fitness nerds. - Basketball courts! More than one! Playing basketball is the only exercise that doesn't feel like exercise to me. Lots of pick-up games, and even when it's dead you can usually find someone to play a quick game of HORSE or one-on-one. Worst Thing: - The ozone air purifiers in the ladies locker room make the entire thing smell like burning hair. But as far as "cons" go, that's fairly minor. If you're looking for a gym membership with value go elsewhere. The LA YMCA's seem to be on a decline... with the Hollywood location leading the way. Some reviewers are missing the point. It's not about towel service, it's about reducing hours, eliminating classes, and removing services while still expecting members to continue to pay the same membership dues each month. The other day I was chatting with an older women about the declining health of the Hollywood location and it turns out she is on the Board of Directors. Her response to me was "the YMCA isn't trying to be a gym." Really?! Then what have I been paying for every month for all these years?! If the Los Angeles YMCA would rather be a collection of non profit community centers then they should present themselves that way, vs the bait and switch routine with people looking for legitimate gym facilities. I think the YMCA is a great organization and I will continue to support it via direct donations but will be joining a different gym. read more

After 15 or so years, I am currently not a member. Various reasons. The biggest being I'd rather WALK to my gym than DRIVE and deal with HOLLYWOOD. Original review below... ---- I've been a member for years... After recently getting rid of a horrible executive director that seemed to do his best to mess a good thing up... The Hollywood Y seems to be back on track to being one of the best gyms and best gym deals in the city. Yoga, spin, racquetball, boxing, karate, weights, swimming, ballet, jazz, basketball, indoor soccer, hiking... You name it, it's included. No it's not cheap, as cheap gyms go... But look at all that's included. It's crazy. Volleyball, gravity classes, ab classes, stretch room, senior classes, water aerobics, belly dancing, children classes, day care, gymnastics... A lot. A ton. Machines. Treadmills. It's a Y, so don't expect valet service and to have your ass kissed... You'll work out next to someone you'll see on TV, a millionaire, a person down on his luck, a buff 79 year old, an old sitcom actor, a teenager with hair too long, and see five year old children going into karate class. You'll meet cool people, there for the workout and friends, not for the scene. I fund raise there each year for the social programs it does for the community, including a shelter for women, helping them get back on their feet with their children... scholarships for people who can't afford membership dues... and a drop in teen center with tutors. Go take a tour, ask for someone who will also tell you about all the classes and social programs. Ask to see the teen center, and find out more about the A Brighter Future program. I went there recently with a friend who after going there for years, wasn't aware of several things there, including the hot tub... Oh yeah, there's a hot tub, and saunas and steam rooms. read more

Oh, I do hesitate to write a review as I did the same thing for my mechanic and now he is overloaded with Yelpers! I LOVE THE YMCA!!! Sorry to yell that but I'm so happy about my discovery of the YMCA. Since being in LA, I have been a member of Bally's and 24 Hour Fitness and now the YMCA. Can I just say that the Y kicks both Bally's and 24 Hour's asses? So many reasons, so much typing but lets just do a small list shall we? 1. I like that there is NO music playing when you work out. THANK GOD! I want to listen to what is on my ipod not what some 20 year old thinks is music. 2. I like Europeans. The Y is full of them and they are with their groovy little hippie kids. I personally like a family environment and can I mention, there are a lot of groovy single dads here pickin' up their kids from class...not that I'm suggesting you wait outside the ballet class but I have seen one or two rather handsome dudes there waiting for their child:) 3. CLEAN! The locker rooms don't smell and if you think they do then you have obviously never been to Bally's over on Selma in Hollywood. Stinky and dirty it is over there! Not to mention, the old Armenian (and I love the Armenian people mind you) women who hang out naked in the steam room...you get it. 4. Outdoor carpet in the locker rooms which I consider a plus. Even though I wear flip flops into the shower and bathroom stall, I used to have to stand on my flip flops over at Bally's so I wouldn't touch the nasty floor while I got dressed but I don't mind touching the floor with the outdoor carpet. Some people might not like this feature, I dig it. 5. Classes-free classes! After you pay your monthly fee that is. I've heard some people say that the YMCA is expensive. These are the same people who fork over $17 bucks for a yoga class when they can get them for free at the YMCA! Yes, the YMCA is $50 bucks a month, however, I easily take four classes a week so it's completely worth it to me. And yes, their yoga classes are great! They do not suck and their instructors are top notch. Not to mention when I am in happy baby pose, I feel overjoyed at the fact that I get to look up at a beautiful hand carved wood beamed ceiling. This may not be right for you modern architectural snobs, cool-go elsewhere! 6. Friendly staff that actually knows what the hell is going on. You can ask anyone there about a class and they know exactly what it is and can tell you about it and the level of the class. Go over to Bally's or 24 Hour (which isn't really open 24 hours...how do they keep that name?), and ask any tiny bimbo at the front desk about a class and you're gonna get a dumbfound look and a dumb ass answer like this "uh, I don't really know about that class but there's probably a trainer around here that can tell you about it". Great! 7. If you are on a tight budget or a starving actor, and I mean eating ramen noodles and microwave popcorn starving, you can get a reduced membership. However, they will ask you for a tax return so you can't lie. I do think it's a nice thing that they offer it to those who need it. Yes, fellow Yelpers, YMCA is my fair workout facility. You are talking to a girl who absolutely hates to work out too and I love the YMCA! The one and only beef I have with the place is that they charge a buck to park in the lot so it makes your membership a bit more. There's no way around it either as the city of LA just recently decided that the YMCA area would be a good place to put meters until 8:00 pm so you're pretty much screwed on street parking. read more

I am updating or downgrading my review of this place. Now I grew up with the Y in Santa Monica. When I lived in New York I used the Y there as well and the same can be said for the Bay Area. Up until being a member of this place I held the Y in such high regard. Bottom line, their customer service sucks, the gym smells and the equipment is old. The second floor fit links room had a machine out of service for over a month. However what really bothers me is management and how they are lousy at doing their jobs. I have changed my billing information twice and each time I did it long before my payment was due and each time they screw it up and then ask me to pay for their screw up. I read where someone said the new director is getting this place back on track after the previous one did such a bad job. If this is the case then the Y is going down hill fast. I have emailed and even left messages for her and she has not once returned an email or phone call. The membership director also said he would call me back and he never did. I had to call and yell and scream in order to get things fixed. I even spoke with someone on their downtown office and he only made excuses. Today after speaking with someone in their corporate offices again and listening to him once again make excuses for the lousy management and after he assured me he would call me to settle my concerns (nearly three hours ago) he has failed, just like he did before. What ever happened to customer service? Why should anyone pay for a service that is lousy? I am no longer a member of the Y and my entire view of this organization has changed. read more

I was a member here for a few months while training for a triathlon because it was convenient and had a lap pool. I can't give it a bad review because it is great for what it is, it's just kind of not for me. If you are looking for the family-friendly atmosphere, you've found yourself a winner. If you prefer a more grown-up gym, keep on trekking. PROS: - Lots of class options - Lots of equipment variety - Nice staff. Mario is great! - Large locker rooms - Towel service - Children are relegated to the Family Locker Room only CONS: - 20 yard pool (most gym pools are 25 yards) - TONS of kids everywhere. I've been a member of this gym for going on 6 months. Granted, I'm one of those people that thrive on the "lounge" life so it's a pretty big deal for me to have a gym membership. Only recently have I been giving the gym my undivided attention. Having friends that go to 24hour or LA Fitness, they always complain about going to the gym. It being a hassle to park, along with the fees, the classes are always full or they feel inadequate next to others on the treadmill. I've never had a challenge parking there as I go around 9am or 8pm. The classes that I take always have space. Not that they are empty classes, but they have so many classes every day, I couldn't see how they would get full. My all-time fave classes are the Gravity Strength class with Rose of Sharon and the Burn 'n' Firm with Ashley. I had taken the Strength class before with different instructors before I found Rose of Sharon. For those of you that don't know what a Gravity class is, you use machines that work against your own body weight. Much like inversion and Pilates machines, I swear you get worked in this class. If you've ever had to do a sideways sit up, you know what I mean. Best Gravity class ever!!! She kicked my out of shape booty!!! I had muscles hurting in the most unusual places, like my upper oblique under the rib. I don't think I've ever worked that muscle out... Six pack, here I come!!!! Now with Ashley's class, you are in for some serious sweating. Playing some high intensity techno trance, she will rip the invisible jump rope out of you and make you do 40 rounds. In no way is she a tough personality. She's really caring for her class and understands if you have to take a minute to breathe before you continue. She also takes water breaks for the whole class to stop for 4 seconds to grab a sip. I have never sweat so much in the first 10 minutes of a class. EVER! I thought I could never go on if I was that winded after 1/8 of the class time. But sure enough, I powered through! You just have to remember, it's ok to stop for a sec if you need to breathe, or drink or wipe the sweat off your brow. The last and final amazing element about this gym is what they do for the community. You can take group hikes in the mountains, bike rides and your kids can go to camp. They have day care for the Moms that like to work out. There is a teen center on the 2nd floor and they are building a women's shelter on the 3rd and 4th floor. This place was fine when it was cheap and convenient. And when the pandemic hit we still paid them for a full year to allow them to do charity work with the homeless/keep them stable.. I had to take the time to write about how AWESOME the Y is! I was searching for a new gym to join after being a member of 24hr Fitness (Hollywood) for 4 yrs. I tried LA Fitness (Hollywood Blvd) for a week but was turned off by the lack of customer service from their reps & overcrowding. Anyway, the Y is truly a hidden gem! Pros: -The classes!!!! All the teachers are amazing with a mix crowd which is refreshing. I wish I had more time to attend them all! Bootcamp & Zumba rock! -A Treadmill is always available for my routine run (Lines at 24 around late afternoon) -Everyone is so helpful & down to earth! -Towels always available. -Regular looking people actually working out! Yay! No more hootchies walking around! -Parking: $1 with Y validation and up to 3 hrs; in Hollywood that is cheap! (Would pay $3 at 24 structure, ouch.) I would recommend a 7 day pass to anyone who was interested in the Y. If you are a FANCY-PANTS with decor, then this probably won't be the best place for you unless you like shows like Sons of Anarchy, Prison Break, The Walking Dead, etc. if you catch my drift haha! The Y also has different fees based on your income. For a reduced monthly fee you can bring a copy of your taxes to see if you qualify if not the regular membership is around $52 I believe. PS. If you're enrolling in a membership or 7-day pass, please make sure to ask for a tour of the facility - this place is huge. read more

Very Competive pick up basketball games, (most of the the time) two full courts (one of the courts is closed for volleyball and soccer on certain nights, Nice Pool , Great Staff & Free clean Towels!! This place is awesome. However my review goes out to the asshole who works in the parking lot. His job is simple, take money, tell people where to park, and if someone has to ask any questions pertaining to this then obviously they haven't been here before. He knew I was new and made me go all the way back (with 2 kids) for some stupid stamp..Could of told me. Then i asked him where to exit since the entrance was so small then he points me to the end of the parking lot where there's no where to exit. He also did this to another family member. Was a member until 2 weeks ago. Had received a letter from the Hollywood Y stating that one of their computers that contained membership banking info had been stolen. Subsequently my bank account began to have unauthorized withdrawals. I eventually had to change banks, and I canceled my Y membership as I don't trust them to safeguard my new bank info. Sent the Y a letter about this and have yet to receive any type of response. Had been a member at other Y's for over 20 years. I continue to deal with merchandise fraudulently purchased and sent to my home. read more

I judge the quality of a gym based on how often I go, and if I stick to it. Based on that criteria, this gym should get five stars. However other readers may feel that fewer stars would be more appropriate because this gym is not super slick. It is a funky older gym located in a historic building. I signed up thinking I would just work with a personal trainer to set up a routine I could do on the weight machines a couple of days a week. Instead, I ended up sampling all of the different classes they offer, and have discovered that Zumba and Latin Dance are my new favorite workouts. All of the Zumba/dance instructors are excellent. Rachel is infinitely cheerful and encouraging. Gabriella teaches a very aerobic latin based class that will burn some major calories. Jody is just plain awesome, combining hip hop with african and latin dance. Alfredo teaches Latin Dance with a flourish. I also really enjoy Deborah's stretch class on Wednesdays when she adds light weights. Rebecca offers a yoga class similar in style to an Iyengar class on Mondays. Tanja offers a very robust Hatha Yoga class that will leave you invigorated. They also offer pilates classes with and without machines and a HIIT class that is really intense. They have two swimming pools that offer regular classes that are great for older adults. They also offer classes for kids in the summer that are always packed. I am going to the gym regularly -- taking at least four classes a week. I have finally lost the pesky five pounds that would never come off and I actually look forward to going to the gym. It makes my day. There are two conveniently located parking lots that offer $1 parking with validation. My experience with the staff has been positive. There are antibacterial wipes provided in the workout area so you can wipe the machines before and after you use them. They have the full set of Cybex machines and I have never had to wait for a machine. The Y offers everything you could want for one affordable monthly fee. I spent a long time trying to find the best gym close to where I live, and this one is everything I personally want or need from a gym for an affordable monthly fee. read more

this place should be a god send but it falls short in so many ways first of all it is FILTHY like really dirty to the point where it is totally uncomfortable to be there. they close @ 7 pm both Saturday and Sunday WHY or WHY just the time people have time to work out . the yoga place has blasting cold air that is locked so the teacher cant turn it off and doing yoga in freezing air is downright dangerous.I joined because of a amazing yoga teacher but i cant practice yoga there anymore because of the freezing air IT IS ALMOST LIKE THE MANAGEMENT ARE TRYING TO SABOTAGE wheat could have been an awesome gym. read more

BEWARE OF MEN'S LOCKER ROOM!! There is a seemingly "friendly" older tall black man with a bald head who stands around chatting with others in the locker room waiting for you to leave your locker unattended so he can break in. I've now had 3 locks broken off my locker at this location and have actually caught this man ALREADY BROWSING THROUGH MY LOCKER two different times!!! This guy is slick and has single handedly ruined too many experiences at this gym for me to ever return. I see other posts here starting to pop up from people who have noticed this same thing!! Something should be done to ensure safety while using the facility here. The locker room is huge in comparison to other locations- it's a maze to walk thru and if your locker is in the middle it can be hard to see from any entrance/exit/shower etc. **i'm happy to identify the gentlemen who i have continued to witness as a repeat offender of this kind of behavior, if the staff here care so much as to solve the issue. If not I'm sure soon it will become a much more serious legal matter for them to deal with, they will unfortunately continue to gain the wrong clientele and in turn lose the ones who utilize the space for its intended purpose, nor will I for one be coming back. read more
