I love to get soups, salads and sandwiches for lunch at Olde Hudson. The dining area has beautiful large windows and is flooded with daylight. One of my favorite dining spots in town. They also have an excellent selection of amazing cheeses, salamis and olive oils. I also purchase my fresh fish here for when I'm cooking at home or grilling outdoors in the summer. So happy they are my neighbor in Hudson!

Looking for a quick coffee on the block brought me over here on a Saturday afternoon. A nice covered seating area in the front and two doors leading to the market and café separately. Went through one door and was told to wait outside until the barista arrived (took about 6 minutes). While we were waiting we noticed the sign said to order through the website in advance. However we were able to give our order directly to the barista once she got to the door. For my order, decided on the Iced Coffee ($2.75) and a Cranberry Scone ($4.75). Coffee/Pastry was ready in a few minutes - good strength in the drink although it was mostly ice. For the scone, a flavorful buttery interior and a crisped outside. Seems like a nice spot on a normal day for groceries and pastries. Wouldn't make a special trip over but a cheaper option for breakfast on the street.

    Amazing market....everything is beautiful!

Talbott & Arding was chosen as our first stop on our girls' getaway journey. Tucked in the Hudson Valley, just an hour from the Berkshires, it was a sweetly energetic beginning to our day. We each chose a sandwich from the counter. My smoked salmon on focaccia was a delight. The bread, airy and light, beautifully happy yeast just bounding with lift, defying the constraints of olive oil which left my fingers gloriously glistening. I haven't had a focaccia as happy as that in a minute. Super thin radish, bright pickled shallot and fresh watercress all gave a nice vibrant touch. Ben's cream cheese couldn't possibly be creamier. And the delicate, silky, fresh, luxurious salmon... What a dream. So balanced. I filled my arms with goods- iberico salami, Aleppo chili oil, Blackstrap coffee beans, local chocolates, and an adorable Talbott & Arding puzzle. I'm sure I could have easily convinced myself to buy just about everything I laid my eyes upon. The cheese counter was an absolute work of art. It's clear that Talbott & Arding is a willing servant to the gifts of the surrounding earth and people. The homage it pays is palpable. Our stop at Talbott & Arding set the tone for an intentional, peaceful, vibrant, cozy, delicious, connected trip. I'll be back immediately.

Both Brent and former owner, Ben Turley, may be familiar faces as they have appeared on several YouTube "Eater" videos. They both seem like nice, funny people. I was ready to really like this place because of the "familiarity" provided by social media exposure. Frankly, I wasn't wowed by what I bought. No complaints at all with the butcher, who was very accommodating. When I asked for pork belly, he asked if I wanted skin on or off. He also asked for the amount I wanted. 1 lb. and it was perfectly trimmed of skin, leaving unctuous layers of fat and meat. Cool. All good. House made hamburgers. This is where it went a little awry for me. Usually, it's an 80/20 mix of lean meat to fat. This was on the fattier side, more like 60/40. I wish I took a picture of it. I cooked the burger in an 8" skillet. By the time I thought the inside was cooked through (medium), the burger was literally swimming in its own fat. I ate it, after draining it on paper towels, but it wasn't what I expected. Is there a learning curve when you prepare organic meats as opposed to mass market stuff? Some items may be leaner and require less time to cook while other, fattier items, may not? Could the butcher provide a bit of info to inform the customers of what to expect? I admit I'm a bit ignorant on how to properly prepare these items. I'm willing to learn and I'll try again.

Now first off, don't get me wrong, buying in bulk or sacrificing the quality of some ingredients to large suppliers like this is definitely a reality when running a restaurant. Even moreso in this day and age when ingredient prices are exorbitant. That said, it needs to be reflected in the price point. Pastries are arranged beautifully under cloches in the display case, but I could spot the premade, ready-to-bake spinach feta bistro (https://www.chefswarehouse.com/products/QZ119984/) or ham and cheese croissant (https://www.chefswarehouse.com/products/99971/) from a mile away. The avocado spread on the preassembled breakfast sandwiches is definitely the pulp from the 3lb bag from Chef's Warehouse too. I know that taste! All of that said, they had a few items in the case that I'm sure weren't from one of these big vendors. Which was great to see. My (yes, unsolicited!) advice would be to pare down the menu. Offer just a bit less so you can focus on the quality. Try and tap into some local producers if you can! That's one of the best things about the Hudson Valley... how much all the purveyors and markets and cafes support each other. It's clear too how much they care about the community. They're dog friendly inside. No WiFi to encourage people to chat with one another. Fine. I really want to see this place continue to thrive, it's just a bit of a bummer that a significant part of the menu including things that really should be fresh, aren't.

I tried three items: the blueberry corn cookie, maple cruller, and the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. All were fantastic. The corn cookie was a novelty. Although I'm glad I tried it, the cookie pales in comparison to the cruller, which was deliciously sweet, with crisp edges and a soft, custardy interior. The sandwich was great, as well. The eggs were fluffy, the bun soft, the bacon thick and crisp. It was good! If you're visiting Hudson, make this your first stop!

You can get the whole chicken, half or quarter. For me, quarter was more than enough. If you get a quarter chicken, you get two sides. If you get half a chicken, then you get three sides. I feel like it should be the opposite to offset the amount of food. But honestly it was perfect, still a big portion. For sides, they offer crispy fingerling potatoes, cole slaw, market salad and butter rice. Their Cole slaw is amazing with that poppyseed dressing. And salad had a variety of greens and crunchy toppings with a light dressing. Also! The plate comes with two sauces - spicy chili oil (mild) and yogurt dip. It was all SO FREAKING GOOD. I'm a dipper so bring on the sauce! The drink offering is also abundant. Lots of craft sodas, botanical drinks, coffees and a full bar in the back. Ghia hit the spot for me. It's not cheap but for this quality of food it's more than worth it. For the vibe..it's a confused vibe. You order at the counter and sit down with a number to wait for your food.
