I call Holt for a hot water issue, the Tech arrived & noticed the Disconnect Salt Water Softener and ask why it was disconnected. I told him don't like the soap feeling, and I have fish. He told me DSM has hard water & leading cause of Water Tank failure. Told me Holt has a system that doesn't leave that feeling. The day of the install I was in & out doing errands and whe I saw the finished product it was the same type of Salt system! I was SO pissed. Had them put in a reverse osmosis system underneath my sink $1700 back in September. After trying to hunt down filters, I finally called them. They sent me a quote for $300 for one filter. Do not use these people. For one they are extremely high priced there's no value and then after the service they try gouging you for $300 for a filter that should be 20 or $30. Asked for a partial refund of the annual maintenance fee after a bad service experience. It's been more than a month, I keep calling and told a billing manager will call me. No call back. The customer service agent says there isn't a way to transfer me to the billing manager or give me a number to call them directly. Same for contacting the owner. Very poor experience. read more

We were moving out of our house and removing the washer when the hot water shut off would not work. It's less than a $10 item and just needed to be unscrewed and replaced. The repairman was very polite but didn't have the correct wrench to remove it so he cut thru the plasterboard, removed the shut off and put on the new one. Total time 20 minutes and repair part $10 TOTAL BILL $520. Absolutely ridiculous! Got screwed and didn't even get kissed. read more

So much for being an existing client with a maintenance contract. Holt installed a new furnace and a new air conditioner for my 100-year-old mother-in-law within the last year. She signed up and paid for the annual maintenance plan. She recently died. My brother-in-law from Minnesota drove three hours to be there for HOLT's appointment to fix a leak. One hour before the window they called to cancel. Apparently their commitment means nothing, or they don't have enough plumbers. Their time seems more important than our time. We are trying to ready the house for sale. Despite my prior two favorable reviews, we will never use them again, and do NOT recommend them. read more

Not the same business since they are no longer family and locally owned. Their techs are very friendly and seem quite knowledgeable, but their organizational system is terrible. We make our service appointments 6 months in advance (fall appt at spring check, spring appt at fall check). Our Fall appointment got changed at the last minute to fit their needs, and Spring appointment not on their books at all! They blamed it on the tech, but I saw him make my appointment. They ended up making accommodations but we shouldn't have to work that hard to get service. Not sure what the problem is but we'll be moving on. read more

I didn't even get far enough to schedule any visit. I simply asked how much it would cost to have a plumber come to my house and replace two (2) toilet wax rings; nothing more. I was informed by the lady who answered the phone that there was a $99 service call fee that is waived if I "moved forward" with the repairs. She also said there was no way anyone could give me an estimate (for just what I mentioned) unless a service call was performed. So basically, you have to pay them $99 to come to your house and tell you how much it would cost to replace two (2) toilet wax rings. My take-away from that conversation was their technicians must lack the skills to be able to give you a ball park figure of replacing the wax rings without looking at the toilet! I had a leak in a copper pipe, so had Holt come out. I was hoping to have a shut off switch also installed in the same pipe placement. Before we even got to the leak, the technician spent half an hour trying to sell me a service plan and a water softener system. The plumber was very friendly and professional and did a great job. However, the cost of replacing six inches of pipe (which was readily accessible) was exorbitant $500, and to add the shutoff valve would have doubled the price. Definitely recommend shopping around for quotes. read more

Do NOT have Holt Plumbing & Heating Inc come do your bathroom plumbing. We hired them in 2021 to replace pipes in our basement and set up the basement for a new toilet as well as our upstairs toilet. When they first arrived things went well, but when it came to toilets, they put the upstairs flange in upside down. They had to come over several times to fix the leaking and still did not get it done right. They do NOT know how to put the flanges on level. The leaking ruined our downstairs drywall because of their incompetence. They used a wax ring when they were asked not to. Nick had to finally fix their mistake. We went to put the toilet in the bathroom downstairs and they put the flange in crooked so the toilet could not be put on. We called to have them come look and fix their mistake but were told it was going to be $99. We shouldn't have to pay for their mistake. We have had to spend hours and more money because our toilets will not seal due to their negligence and incompetence. Not only that, but when you look at our receipt, they charged us for things they didn't do. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone for any sort of plumbing! I have been a customer & member of Holt for 18 years. Today, a Saturday, I discovered my hot water heater was leaking and soaking the carpet in my living room. My house is one level and the water was coming from the room where the hot water heater is located into the living room. Called & stated I had an emergency & was told no one was available. Needless to say this did not go over well with me. Holt installed the hot water heater 8 years ago. We had them install our new HVAC system & I have referred them to neighbors. Was finally told they would "work me in"' but could not give me any idea when they would get to me. I called a different company & someone came right out. I will have this other company install my new hot water heater & I am cancelling my Holt membership. read more

I've been a long time member of holt but have recently had to drop them. Since getting bought out, their prices have gone through the roof even with a membership discount. In addition, scheduling/follow up has been terrible. Even with a membership, I was lucky to get someone to show up on the day they said they would have someone out. My most recent issue was for a clogged drain. After 3 separate visits, the clog has been fully taken care of but the headache and hassle of working with holt on this most recent service request is not worth it. Even the technician said they are terribly understaffed. Happy to be with a different, locally owned service provider. read more

Work was fine, and the fellow who came out was competent and courteous. But OMG, the price: $368 for 20-30 min of work to replace $45 worth of parts (that's if I buy them retail). So, $320 for 20-30 min of labor. It's America, I don't mind paying people well. But this is just offensive. And they charge you $99 just for showing up, so you're caught in the trap that if you don't hire them, you lose $99. Frame of reference: $368 is roughly equal to what the average American household earns in a WHOLE DAY. (Note: I'm in Des Moines, although my Yelp location shows me in San Francisco). read more

DO NOT hire Holt! I scheduled back in October a maintenance appt w/Holt and the soonest appt they had was 5 weeks out. The appointment was from 8am - 4:30pm (go figure) - wait all day!! After 3 1/2 hours they sent me a text that NO one was coming because of other emergencies. They didn't even have the audacity to call and speak to me. In return I called and the next available appointment was another 2 weeks out, again. How do I know that this isn't going to happen again? By the way, I called them because they sent a coupon via USPS. Why do Direct Mail? Folks DO NOT use Holt! They are not there for you! I have had other heating companies come to my home and have never NOT show up. I think they rather take care of their people that pay a monthly fee! read more

We have a regularly scheduled service for our newer Holt HVAC system, which was installed in 2021. Each time the servicemen come out, they are polite, courteous, knowledgeable and go above and beyond what I otherwise expect from any service company. Rob was the most recent person to pay us a visit, he was extremely thorough, preformed a number of tests on the system, replaced the humidifier and furnace filters. The diagnostics indicated that there was a minor adjustment which would slightly improve the combustion efficiency and he thoroughly explained the processes. This review is for work Holt did for me on August 17, 18, and 19, 2023. My complaint is not with the Holt employees whom I dealt with, all seemed personable, but with their excessively high charges. They charged $1,088.11 for installation of a basic bathroom faucet and the two shut-off valves below the sink, no unexpected problems. I know hiring a plumber is not cheap, but I later found Holt's prices much higher compared to other reputable licensed Metro plumbers. Cost breakdown: $119 Minimum Charge, $594.03 for cheapest faucet ($84 and some change at Home Depot), $296.90 for two shut-off valves, $7 misc. supplies, $71.18 tax, Total $1,088.11. This is for a regular appointment, not emergency service. The same day after the plumber left, it started leaking under the sink (it was not leaking there originally). A plumber came out the following morning to tighten the P-trap nuts. It was fine for a while, but started leaking again under the sink. Two plumbers returned the following day and installed a new P-trap (in case it was cracked during the original work); there was no charge for the P-trap or the two return calls. Afterwards, I called some other reputable licensed Metro plumbers to get a ballpark cost for the same type of job. Their price for installation was in the $500 to $600 range (if no problems were encountered), and that included the parts (faucet and two shut-off valves). I then called Holt to ask why they were so much higher and was told their prices are on the high side because they guarantee their work, but so do other reputable licensed plumbers. I went with Holt because the general contractor whom I usually use for plumbing was not available until the following week, they came out the same afternoon that I called, and their reviews were good. I learned the price late afternoon and didn't want the leak to continue over night. If you read their reviews on a variety of sites, there are other complaints about their excessively high pricing, so take the time to read reviews on more than one site. I hope my bad experience will be a lesson to others. There are reputable licensed plumbers in the Metro who do guarantee their work and for a fraction of the price that Holt charges. Even if I were a member of the Holt program, I would have only saved $154.26 on this job, still higher than other reputable licensed plumbers. If it is not an emergency, call around so you don't get stung. read more

I have a drippy shower in a tenant space in a duplex. The plumber quoted $1500.00 to fix it including cutting a 12"x12" hole to the back of the wall. "That's the only way they can fix it with a new valve and trim" quoted the plumber. Meantime this plumber keep complaining that its old plumbling, which I had them changed out to all copper in 1995 when we bought the property. I decline their services. A different plumbing company came and fixed it for a fraction of the quote without cutting a hole in the wall and with a 2 years warranty. Do the math. An hour of services for the amount quoted is not I call a fair number. read more

Buyer beware.......Holt provided an estimate to install a 50 gallon gas water heater with a electric exhaust invent at $4,000 plus $180 for a plumbing permit which the city only charges $45 for one. Two other estimates came in at $2,700 and $2,400. These are from reputable plumbers who have been in business for more than 20 years. read more

Had I not already been stuck for the $89.00 service fee and my back against the wall from a home inspection and closing date I would NOT have let them complete the work and cut my losses at the $89.00. I called Holt to fix a very minor leak which caused a slow drip in my shower. The phone call to schedule the appointment was with a young girl who could not answer any questions and didn't record my address correctly which caused the actual workers to arrive over an hour late. When the workers arrived, they came in two separate large work vans and parked on the wrong side of the street. There were two workers, one in his late twenties who was very poorly dressed and one in his fifties who was well put together. To my surprise, the elder of the two was actually a trainee. The two introduced themselves and both carried light pink shoe covers in their back pockets to place over their boots prior to entering the house. As they walked into my home I assumed the pink covers would be eventually put on but they stayed in their pockets the whole time in my home. This created an awful image to me like neither cared or respected my home. After evaluating the leak I was told the resolution would be upwards of 600$ to resolve and they would need to replace all of the copper pipes and cut a hole in the wall. (What they two didn't know is I had some knowledge of the situation and knew a rubber ring inside one of the stems needed to be replaced. If I had the tools I probably could have repaired it myself). I refused to allow the large charges to happen and informed them of what knowledge I had of the situation. They agreed with me (easily) and then provided a smaller number to fix the leak (150$). I allowed the repairs to move forward. I still regret this decision. While fixing the leak the two both had to leave the site three times for "parts" (even though they both had large work vans) causing a long delay and also causing them to leave the front door open twice in the middle of winter. While in the bathroom I heard one say to the other "I think I snapped it", immediately one came out and told me a part was "old" and they could repair it for $46.50. Eventually they finished the job (5 hours later). They walked me into the bathroom and there was a piece missing. A pipe cover, which hides the pipe going into the wall. I was told this could also be fixed for 46.50, I did not agree to this fix AS THEY REMOVED IT. Also there were large wrench marks all over the handles and details of the shower. I started to try to ask why the situation happened but the younger was so condescending I literally gave up and just wanted them to leave. Was the leak fixed? Yes, however the pipes/handles will need to be replaced due to the damage caused by the workers. This was an awful experience. read more

Plumber wanted to charge me over $1000.00 to break through a wall to replace a tub cartridge. What? Second plumber replaced the cartridge in 20 minutes without breaking through any walls and for 1/4 the cost. Holt either doesn't know what their doing and/or their good at up selling to customers to make more money or both. Do yourself a favor and do not use Holt. read more

I called them to fix a shower that would not turn off. Hot water kept spraying. When the plumber arrived, he said "I can tell before I do anything that this is a special order situation". After at first using pliers on the wrong nut, he removed the stem. After some puzzlement and many looks, he said "This can't be fixed today. Need to see if we can find one in the warehouse..." Then he pulled out a brochure of pics of stems and pointed to the one that cost 400$. I said no thanks. I took the stem to the local hardware store and it turned out this was a COMPETELY STANDARD stem. It cost 9$ and took me 15 min to install. Either that guy was a moron or a thief. Here's a shout out to Rob who came to repair our AC unit, after regular service hours. He replaced a capacitor for us in 15 minutes and we were up and running. We are a member of the Holt Monthly Maintenance Program, so no extra charge for their 24/7 service. Rob is our go to guy for AC and furnace maintenance, both units are Ruud which we purchased from Holt several years ago. The service man was awesome and did an exceptional job however then told me it would be a total of $350 to replace a kitchen faucet for a 35 minute job. I recently used Holt plumbing to replace the sprayer faucet in my kitchen sink. My old one had sprung a leak and I called and requested Holt plumbing to come out and assess the situation. They were up front with me about in initial $89 charge just to visit, so i knew that would be the minimum cost. But when he explained the cost to replace the sprayer I had to sit down. It was an additional 180+ dollars for a sprayer to be installed. Since i was already required to pay the 89.00 i made the choice to fet it fixed as water was going everywhere when i turned on the faucet. It took him 15 minutes the total bill was 270 plus dollars. So not only did they not remove the $89 charge to come visit, they also added the gauging price for a simple sink sprayer. A SPRAYER !!!! I will admit they were courteous and fast and it was my choice to replace thats why i gave then a 2 rating and not a 1 rating.. sorry Holt Plumbing but i wont call again because your prices are ridiculous. If you do the math that is over a $1000 an hour cost rate for their service. So, if you want to be price gauged - use them !! read more

The plumber was nice but the price was highway robbery. Dad's house was up for sale and the day before the first showing we sprung a leak. I was in a pickle and needed someone to do the work that day. My friend recommended this company. BAD idea! The part was about a $10 part and the plumber worked about 10 minutes and the bill was $302.87. He was there during regular business hours as well. But since I had to have it fixed I had no choice at the time. Stay away from this company and find someone with a normal price point. read more

I thought very highly of Holt Plumbing until two days ago. Thus, when I needed to replace the inner workings of two toilets, I decided to ask Holt to do the work. I went to their office, explained what I needed, but regrettably didn't ask for more of an idea of costs. I was told the trip charge was $97, which I expected. I anticipated additional charges for parts and labor, but was absolutely shocked when the plumber arrived, wrote up an estimate for the work and said it would cost $505 to replace these parts that cost $25 each at the local hardware store! He did say that I could save 15% if I signed up for their membership program which costs $24.95/month! At that point it had already cost me $97 for him to drive in the driveway, so I told him to go ahead and do the work. He did so - and completed it in approximately 40 minutes. That's about $400 for 40 minutes of work or $10/MINUTE! When I called to complain about the outrageous and absurd cost, I was told that they cannot give approximate costs until they see the job!
