I have had this service for 4.5 years. Up until recently it's been great. 4 days ago hot hot water went out, it was Sunday so I tried trouble shooting it myself seeing as though my tank said it had 68% propane in the tanks. (500 gallons might I add) So I flushed the hot water heater and cleaned it with descaler. No change. I woke up Monday morning and checked to hatch for the tank and it was full of water. I then called Holtzman Propane to come see why it wasn't draining the water. By 12 pm they had someone at my house checking the tank. He proceeds to tell me that my tank is empty and that my valve was stuck at 68% full. Well he adjusted the valve and got that working and said he would put an order in to have propane delivered. This is day 2 with no hot water or stove to cook. By 7pm that night no one had come out. I called the emergency after hours number to see if they could come deliver propane. No one came. I'm at work the next day and send an email because now it's 10:30 am, and I still haven't heard anything. I get a response that they are working on it. Now this is 3 days with no hot water or a way to cook. I get an email at 3:11 pm stating that someone will be out TOMORROW to fix the float but a time was unknown. This is going into day 4 no hot water and way to cook, but when my bill is due your company takes my money on a TIMELY Basis. I understand that I pay for propane by volume up front, but 4 days without a solution is so UNACCEPTABLE!!!!! I would love to hear from a corporate member, as to what we can do to right this wrong. I've been with them for 14 years. I'm on the monthly budget. I have a credit card registered with them. I had to stop using fuel because it got so low. I went to their site to order more. I was at 21% they don't auto schedule until 20%. Their site says my account is on hold. 14 years, never a missed payment. On hold? Called, they said my credit card is only charged for the budget amount. The $90 tank rental fee is due. But I just got the bill last week! Why am I on hold? Then, talking to them this morning, she tells me that I'm at 21% and they don't auto-schedule until 20%. THEN she says I'm lucky. They have a bunch of customers without any fuel. WHAT???? I feel so much better. I have to get away from these people. We are calling around to others. I kind of expected just a little better after 14 years as a customer that never (that I remember anyway) missed a payment. Then to be told I'm lucky because they have many customers without fuel? What am I to think. They do not care. They see things from the point of view of their desk, not the customer. Their accounting system is confusing and maybe even shady. The people are so clueless - I'm sorry to say that. I know they are real people. This is a classic case of a company becoming so focused on their internal protocols that they forget they're in the business of keeping people warm. Avoid at all costs! Attempting to enforce an unconsummated lease agreement with my husband and I and they immediately hired lawyers to go after us, for "lost profits." It's laughable. Go with anyone else. I used their service because the tank was already there from the previous owners. Their delivery guy left the bleeder valve open, I didn't find out till 4/5 days later when I finally smelled the propane. At that point 4/5's of the tank had already vented out into the atmosphere. I called to complain and turn the automated deliveries off so I could be there to check the tank after any future deliveries. They said they would look into it and later offered to pay for 2/5's of the tank that I never used. When I called to cancel the service, I was told that "We're being very generous with our refund, sorry it's not enough for you." I guess I'm just entitled to expect to actually receive the gas I'm paying for. read more

I have propane in NYS never been treated like this. I also heard they treat the drivers like crap i had one at my house, so I know. Do not use Holtzman! Highly recommend using anyone else. This company is negligent, dishonest, and a bunch of thieves. Their customer service is the worst and I don't even know where to begin. I could write a novel. I've been a customer for less than 7 months and it is nothing but issues with them. First they cost me 5k in damages to my driveway because they drove their trucks on and off my driveway all the way up and down. What they did to driveway was negligence and I have recordings/documentation to prove it. Holtzman actually puts in their contract they are not responsible for driveway surfaces. How many people have they caused damages too?! I paid holtzman thousands to install a brand new nordik fireplace insert with propane tank only for the system to break and not work as expected since day one. Day one the back glass panel fall forward in the fireplace without warning and cracked. We submitted request for warranty and the technician that came out acted like he had never worked on that type of fireplace before. He ended up cracking the glass on the edges because he was being to rough with insert. He acted like nothing happened and put back together. After a long battle and waiting period we got the glass replaced. The issues did not stop there. We now have a fireplace that the pilot does not like to ignite on. You would think a brand new fireplace would work correctly for the first year, but here we are less than 7 months in and it does not work as expected. I called in and I was charged $195 for a dispatch and 1/2 hour diagnostic when technician came out. No warranty coverage. The fireplace did not start so the technician opened up glass and then it started and was normal for the day. The next day the fireplace again would not start, so I took the cover and glass off like the technician did and it started. I immediately called in to holtzman to let them know the issue was not resolved and I should not have to take these steps to start fireplace. They sent technician out again and he had to call the vendor for nordik because he had no idea what the issue was. I was charged an additional dispatch fee. Is the holtzman team on drugs?! I should not have to pay a thing, but to charge me for same issue unresolved!!!!!! I could keep going and share more examples and details on why not to use them. Holtzman bought out our local supplier Bruce's Propane. They installed a monitor on our tank, which cost $120.00 plus tax a year. Then came the $9.99 delivery fee. Now, a 3% surcharge for paying with a credit card. Most of the time delivery was non-eventful. Yesterday morning, I checked the portal to check the monitor. It showed that our tank was at 24%. Our local township already declared a snow emergency in which only emergency vehicles should be out on the roads. I called Holtzman to request a delivery. 4 hours later I received a call from the customer service department. She informed me that the monitor showed our tank at 22% and a delivery ticket would be generated. I then asked for a deliver before the approaching storm, and she said there was nothing she could do. Here it is a day later and our tank is at 14%. I called again. The woman said a ticket had been generated and they would get to me. Their trucks are not out today. I was basically told that it was my tough luck. Not only does our furnace use propane, so does our water heater and our stove. Have you ever had to wash dishes or take a shower with cold water? Did I mention that it is 13 degrees here or that our heat is turned down to 65? I am 70 years old and now I have to go out and shovel a pathway to the tank so they can deliver. Oh, when they get to me. And the real kick-in-the-ass is, their office where the delivery truck is parked is less that a quarter-mile from our house. Have used them for the since 2021. First two year had great things to say. Since well if I could give a 0 star review I would. Have their so called automated system for delivery. Have ran out of propane several times the last three years. I have been out this latest cold snap in Jan 26 for over 36 hours. Called a week before I ran out to schedule a delivery. Still have yet to get around to me. Get the same line every time I call we have trucks running 24/7. I had my driveway down to asphalt within 5 hours of the snow stopping. Would not recommend to my worst enemy. This is the last winter I will ever use them. read more

Worst customer service out there! They make the budget payments so high, that someone on a fixed income will have to choose between food or heat. They have their dirty tricks too, like filling the tank a couple of weeks before the yearly settlement payment is due. They have never lost money on me, most of the time I had a positive balance. I had an underground leaking propane tank. This tank provides gas for my kitchen stove. I attempted to get my tank repaired by another propane supplier/repair company and I was told I would have to sign a 3-year exclusive contract before I could even get a quote to repair my tank? I contacted Holtzman Propane and they quickly sent technicians to make the site safe while they also brought a truck to recover the remaining propane. As soon as it was possible, Holtzman Propane delivered and connected a new above-ground tank. The entire process only took 4 days! Their staff were very professional, very helpful with answering questions, and very thorough. Most of all, Holtzman Propane did not require me to sign a long-term exclusive contract, and went lengths to make certain I felt like a valued customer. Fraudulent and Rude. New to the area and unfortunately inherited this company from the previous owner. Less then 30 days after enrolling in the "non-service" we are being charged a 5 year fee for breach of contract, for services that were never installed and despite they breached their own contract with placement of the tank. After offering several compromises and being turned down we were auto drafted for the fee that was not authorized. Beware of this company and their automatic draft policies. I am only writing this review because I was floored by the very snarky rude customer service rep that I had to speak to this morning. I called because our heat is not working, I knew we were due for our comfort plus quarterly maintenance so figured it could get done at one time. The lady told me there was magically a cancelation and it would be $99 for him just to drive to my house and then once he is here, he'll do the comfort plus inspection...I questioned why I would pay $99 when he will already be here for a service (comfort plus) that I already pay monthly for.. To this she put me on hold and then rudly came back and said if I didnt want to pay someone would see me in Novemeber...Considering telling them to get their tank and changing companies! Editing to add that Teressa and I want to say Lisa (sorry if I misheard) called back and were terrific. kind, understanding and quick to assist on how to help with our heat. I've had Holtman Propane for about 9 years. I ran my two fireplaces off of it when the electric went out. I live in the town of Front Royal and never needed the propane. Holtzman came out every year and charged me $90 plus dollars for not having the tank filled. I recently sold my house and when I called Holtzman for a refund on my full tank; THEY INFORMED ME THEY DO NOT GIVE REFUNDS! Holtzman advised me to pass it on the new owner. They said they would send me a letter of Value This was the day of closing. I could not go to the new owner and tell them they had to pay for the gas! IF I had known HOLTMAN was so unscrupulous I would have called them sooner to request the refund. I did call them early in the process and asked them to pick up the tank as I was selling the house and wanted a $150 plus to pick up a full tank! They said leave it to see if the new owner wanted to take over. Clearly from the letter below HOLTZMAN KNEW EXACTLY what the worth was. I cannot express my gratitude to Holtzman Propane for their excellent customer service. They single-handedly rescue my restaurant from closure by circumnavigating a major creek after we were blocked by the next-door property owner from crossing for this purpose (as had been done for at least 25 consecutive years). I am opening a new restaurant in a new location, and again it was Holtzman to the rescue. Maria Leon was especially helpful. She guided us through the process of bringing in a 500-gallon tank down a long dirt road. She advised of what was needed in advance so that the installation would go smoothly, and it did. 100%! In case anyone is wondering... there was a tank here when we arrived. We paid almost $1000 to bring in Holtzman that we would not have had up-front if we had stayed with the other company. We will reap the benefits in cost savings over time and enjoy the personal service that Holtzman is known for. read more

I bought a very expensive propane Vermont Castings propane stove from Holtzman Propane and had them install it . It always had trouble lighting up and sometimes leaked gas. We called them and a repairman came and said it had not been installed correctly . ( By Holtzman) The following winter it leaked again and gassed up the house. A repairman came and said the whole fuel mixing assembly had to be replaced . The repairman was sent by Holtzman . They said the part was covered by warranty but it would cost 800$ to install it. We have only used it for emergency heat and run one tank of gas thru it . I talked to.management and they will not negotiate. Do not do business with Holtzman! They do not stand being the products they sell. They charge a premium price then will.not repair the appliances without enormous fees. Absolutely do not buy any propane heating appliances from them or you may get stuck with a 5000$ stove that is useless . read more

Mr. Todd Holtzman and his crews as well as holtzman propane who we have been with for years (going on 9 now) have always been good to our family. I read some of these reviews and am sadden but many 1 stars seems to be more gaps in the story and I bet if you dug you could find issues not with holtzman! We have had good service , a new water heater (tankless) and are looking at a new heating upgrade and all parties from the field crews coming out to quote the systems to the office staff when I pay the bill to the service tech or marketing and office staff have been nice and we appreciate the good service in our area. I only hope others write more positive reviews for holtzman because the silent 5 stars out there are much larger trust me!! I will continue to go with holtzman!! read more

We bought a house with Amerigas providing propane and had nothing but problems, (we were on autofill and they would never fill...) and moved the account to Holtzman. The service was excellent. Promptly installed the right size tank in a good location and autofill is spot on. We repaired a house that my daughter no lives in that we have on the property and called Holzman to install a propane tank as we are replacing a dead oil furnace. Started this in mid October of 2022. Three months later we are still waiting. The contract kept changing, and each time they would fix an error and make another. We finally signed this one - with our names totally misspelled - and tank installation was ultimately tomorrow morning, after multiple reschedules on their part. This afternoon they've put it off again for no reason - winter will be past before we get a working furnace in this house. Rude, unprofessional, and frankly incompetent in setting up the account. My furnace installer keeps getting stuck as he schedules to be there when Holtzman shows up - and then it's a no show or cancellation. Our previous install was great, and refill service is great. This is on the same property and is a disaster, but I've already signed the contract. If I had seen these reviews when I was leaving amerigas I would have bought my tanks first and called Southern States. I'll be gone when the contracts run. So yes, RUN from this company. I'm asking the president/CEO of Holtzman Propane to please spend the money and put canopies over their fill stations so your employees can fill tanks in the rain so I don't have to drive to another business and spend more per gallon just have heat in my home. I originally declined the propane tank monitor so I could schedule refills on my own, when I needed it. Holtzman added the monitor without asking me, charging more than $200. Then, they failed to monitor it resulting in my propane tank going empty during a snow storm. They won't deliver unless they can see gravel or pavement so my tank was empty for more than 3 weeks. When temps don't get above 25 degrees, the snow/ice isn't melting. Even worse, they required that I send them photos of the road when it was clear so they knew they could see it, otherwise it was a $125 fee for them trying to deliver unsuccessfully. Sadly, I know another customer of theirs who was having the same issue and actually had to stay in a hotel until Holtzman would deliver. Because propane is my heat source, my pipes froze and I had to get plumbers to fix everything. Even though they broke the contract by not delivering, I will be charged a cancellation fee (~$125) AND "restocking" fee to cancel the contract. Also, I called multiple civil litigation lawyers in the area but most of them have represented Holtzman resulting in a conflict. That in itself should tell you something. There are plenty of better competitors who ensure their customers don't run out. I highly suggest skipping Holtzman and going with someone else. read more

If I could give a negative star rating I would, as this company is that off the chart horrible. Terrible service, unresponsive, rude customer service and unwilling to assist for emergencies. After a cold snap, I ran out of propane and they refused to schedule an emergency delivery, even though I offered to pay an emergency premium. The absolute worst! They are a rip off...Where do I start? I've been a 14 yr customer. When I moved into my house the tank was already here so when I put in a vented heater and gas stove I was glad to have it...until I wasn't. They have all these rules that end up costing you money....and more! I had a 100 gallon tank but they told me that they wouldn't deliver less than 100 gallons. Of course, this is their tank, so this doesn't make sense. If I would tell them that I had more than 20%, they wouldn't come because they could deliver enough I Propane. You have to have at least 100 gallon for a delivery, but if they only deliver to 80%, and you only have a 100gallon tank...it's not feasible. The "MINIMUM USAGE FEE". My Propane venture heater quit working so all I had was a gas stove. Apparently I didn't use ENOUGH Propane ....so they were going to charge me close to $300 so they could guarantee they make a minimum off each property yearly, regardless of whether you use the Propane or not...so if you scrimp and cut back just the thermostat to save Propane and then money....they'll get it anyway. They said I could get a smaller tank installed but of course it would cost ME a fortune to switch out the larger tank for a smaller tank I had decided having a gas stove wasn't worth dealing with Holtzman Propane and switched to electric, with most a full tank of Propane left. I like cooking with gas but I know they make small tanks you can get anywhere. But to switch to a smaller tank is hundreds. So instead I asked of thdu could just come get it.GET THIS now....THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD COST MORE TO TAKE IT than to leave it.....even though I never asked for their tank to be on my property, they were going to charge me if they left it and were going to charge me MORE if they took it so! court. I am living off of under $1000/month I need my money for things I am for things I actually use. Over 13 years I'd lived here, they had never come out and done anything. The following month they came out and painted the front of the tank. They had no issue coordinating that with me. I had an American Bully dog at the time and a fiesty terrier, necessitating them to call before coming out so I could put the dogs up or not leave them outside before I left. This brings me to why I was I'm court with these punks yesterday...all the way in Shenandoah County. I got a Warrent in Debt for $1600 for the cost of the tank! On the warrant it said that I had REFUSED HOLTZMAN PROPANR ENTRY TO MY PROPERTY! HOLTZMAN Propane will ONLY AGREE TO CALL YOU WHEN THEY ARE IN ROUTE. You get no date, no time, no heads up the day before so that if you work or leave the next day to go anywhere, you'd need to know to leave your dogs inside, so Holt Propane can come into the backyard and get it. I wanted them to take it but apparently, I didn't know this....since they don't leave a note or anything- but the drivers had come out several times when I wasn't home and the dogs were outside, which they should be on a nice day. E and LIE! saying that I refused them access...a bold faced LIE! I was trying to get them to take the tank....but if I've had no heads up....and I already leave for the day....what good is calling me enroute!?! Nine, absolutely none. When I gave them instructions on how to ensure they got the tank, I thought they were noting my request to call at least the previous day to let me know they were coming. Not only did they NOT tell me that this is not their policy and in fact they would not be doing this, so that I could try to make other arrangements...BUT THE DRIVERS NEVER EVEN GIT MY INSTRUCTIONS....THEY WERE NEVER PUT IN MY CHART OR PASSED TO THE DRIVERS. My specific instructions noted that they were free to come if they were already in the neighbor but that without an appointment, or previous notice, I couldn't guarantee that the dogs wouldn't be outside. That makes sense, right? If the dogs weren't outside they could go straight thru the back gate and help themselves. Does this sound like someone who is PREVENTING them from taking their tank? Of course not. I was wanting them to get it. On top if it, they don't leave a note sayinf they were there or when they might be back. Then if im not home and the dogs are out, do they consider doing anything different? What other utility company -or any company for any service- would not give you a day they are coming bye but if you're not there, they lie to a magistrate about you preventing them from getting it and to drag you into General District Court?!? And not even in my own county, an hour away in a different county. If I didn't show up, I would have been found guilty in my absence and charged $1600 for a rusted out, at least 15 year old, tank that to my knowledge had never been serviced other than s I me paint slapped on the front of it. read more

Very disappointed!! We have been a customer of Holtzman propane for over five years so we decided to use them to repair our heating system that just went bad. To have a technician come to the house we were charged a dispatch fee of $75.00 and diagnostic fee $75.00. Technician shows up to my house with no mask or shoe coverings. He diagnosis the problem and tells us it as a bad igniter and charges $320.00 for this. Not deducting the diagnostic fee as many other companies due when you have them perform the work. It is very cold in our house so we agree to have the service done. After the technician changes the valve the problem is not fixed; He now tells us it is a bad gas valve and will charge us $475.00. We have just paid $470.00!!!! We still have no heat. Our house is freezing for over three weeks now. This is absolutely a rip off.....we will not be using them ever to fix our system We contacted another company who will come out to diagnosis the system and they will deduct that diagnosis cost from the fix they provide and will not be charging us a dispatch fee. read more

To add to the growing amount of complaints, we recieved a bill from Holtzman the other day charging us for "not using enough gas". This is absolutly absurd as there is also a charge for "using too much gas" so we basically get charged an arm and a leg for a gas, usage and under usage fees on top a service charge because they chose to bid on a contract 3 hours away. These people are rude, expensive, inefficient, and unreliable. Our house is without heat in the dead of winter and has been for over a week. We called a few times to see if we could speed up delivery and they basically said to either pay over $300 for next day service or wait until they get around to us. Also, I guess we called one too many times to check on delivery because the woman got an attitude and stopped picking up our calls. You will never save any money with Holtzman. They will change the rules or fill your tank a couple of days after the cut off date so they can charge you a minimum use fee. Just buy your tank up front or demand a different heating source or propane source or just buy another property if Holtzman is involved in any way. read more

I've had a bad experience with this company so far. They don't return calls, and when I do call, I get the run around regarding which person I should speak with. Apparently callers need to speak to the person handling their account, despite the fact that the person handling my account never seems to be there. Why can't someone else help? We set up a date for them to hook up our propane, but they failed to tell us that someone had to be present in the house or they couldn't complete the installation. (Despite it being all outdoors.) I call in to schedule another appointment, but can't do so because my service rep isn't there. Lo-and-behold, I get a call the next business day saying they've scheduled my call for that very day, and can I be there? So I take off work to be there for the hookup, only to have them call and cancel at the last minute. Now I have to re-schedule again... Is there another option for propane service in the area? read more

I have a whole house electric generator for emergencies. With 200 lbs of propane I can run for approximately 48 hours. We have indeed been without electricity for that long. My current tanks are at 50% (one day's generation or less) and Holtzman (WV) wants to charge me a 40 cent per gallon surcharge because i'm not at 30% or below. I also thought I was allowing them to be more efficient by not calling in a crisis. I asked a manager how they would respond if I was down to 20% in an emergency and was told that it might take them up to five days to respond (WHAT). So, I'm being penalized for calling as a non emergency and ordering up to 100 gallons of fuel (which they claim was not enough to be efficient). I told them to deliver the propane, I would pay the bill and next spring look for alternatives. read more

I am with the others about negative stars. We have been working with them for months on issues with the tank and parts. Their line every time is "you own the tank, it's your problem". The tank has not been right since January. 500 gallons of propane gone...they say that's impossible - they say the leak they found was small and couldn't articulate how 500 gallons of propane is used in 20 days.... When we called because the smell of propane they acted as if we were lying....I have never been so mistreated as a customer. My family and I had used Holtzman for about 2 years now because of their slightly lower rates. However, two Fridays ago when we had our tank filled will be the last time we use them because their customer service is horrible. We had to get a pressure test done bc our tank was on empty, the delivery guy told us that he had to send a technician bc there may be a leak, of course we agreed. They made us pay for his first hour ($175) up front. When the technician got out there he took the test again and told us that it was fine, that most likely the driver's gauge had been malfunctioning or he did not read correctly and that the company would be able to return our money. When we called not only were they rude, but they insisted that the charge would stay. The manager was supposed to call us, she never did. I emailed them (no reply). I called again on Monday, a lady informed me that they had decided the charge would stay, even though we were never part of this decision discussion. I asked to talk to the manager again, she was at a meeting again, and told she would call back again. 4:30 rolled around I decided to call again, I finally got the manager, Marsha. She was again rude, telling me that it was not the end of the day and that she had been busy. Very dismissive overall. Also, her notes from the driver and technician had them doing a lot more than my family described and she basically called us liars to our faces. Again she said that the charge was not coming off even though we did not need that technician in the first place. To be honest, even if there policies all pointed towards them not being obligated to refunding that charge, the fact that instead they chose to insist on the charge and have a negative tone with me overall, instead of having good customer service skills and refunding this even as a courtesy, made them lose a customer. We fill up our tank at least twice a year (800 gallon tank) meaning minimum right now that gas is cheap $1,600, usually up to triple that. $175 is a lot less than $1,600 obviously, so they clearly need to learn a bit about business as well. read more

We have had a good experience with Holtzman. We initially had Amerigas when we moved in to our new build but their prices were really high. We removed their Propane tank and had Holtzman put in one of theirs. Their price is so much lower. We are on their auto fill program and have never had a problem. read more

The WORST!!!!!!!! They come when you haven't called to have the tank filled. Then they charge and extra $263 saying you haven't used enough propane and have incurred this extra fee. Also, they won't come out at all if the tank is over 20% full and they fill it to 80%. That's 60%. Customers need to use 80% not to incur a fee. See the catch-22 for the extra fee? We wanted to buy the tank outright as they own it and we are locked into using them by buying the house we did with the size tank it has. We keep the house at 73*. If you call and complain, it's in the contract, too bad, get a smaller tank or turn up the thermostat. That's their answer. The smaller tank is really expensive to swap out, of course it's pretty obvious they put in a bigger tank than this house needs so, they can continue to charge us an extra 15% a year. They want almost triple the price of a new tank for one that is almost 20yrs. It's over $6200 plus a $200 fee, for paperwork or some other way they can take your money. What a shady way to do business. We had no idea buying the house we love came with a propane contract with the devil. They deserve a ZERO but, that's not possible. How does Holtmann even have a business when they treat residential customers like crap? I'm sure people are happy when have service installed as they haven't yet incurred the small print and catch-22s in their contract. read more

Don't use Holtzman propane. Switch to an outdoor wood boiler or indoor wood stove if you can. Holtzman has designed their business model to be an entrapment and difficult to get out of for customers. Some of their reps had no clue what they were talking about half the time whenever charges that vastly varied from our quotes were placed upon us. Even after showing up in person and verbally telling them to close down the account after paying off the account in full, they still didn't do that and they just charged us another $300 after that fact. I had to take even more time out of my life to deal with $300 being withdrawn right before Christmas after demanding them to close the account. Not everyone who works there is a bad person, many are decent humans, but the lack of training for their reps and their business model smacks of shadiness that makes it very easy to spend the money we would be paying for propane on making payments for an outdoor wood boiler we will own in a few short years and then have essentially free heating. read more

Have used HP since we purchased our home. Last 2 X the tank was filled we were given incorrect amount for fill over the phone and questioned current rate. After some calculations rep says "my bad" and gives completely different number. Have always left payment on door or inside tank as we both work away from house. Suddenly HP is unable to service without prepay. Asked tech to inspect line for leak as prior fill seemed to empty sooner than normal. he inspected and told me I need a new water heater, and turned down the temperature on my heater without notice. 2 days of cold showers and I see how low he set my thermostat. Holtzman is actual worst propane company in our area, and I every propane company is pretty bad here. They are rude, their business practices are shady at best (people in our neighborhood have been quoted several different prices to buy out the tank). My husband and I have been insulted because we were twice given false information my two different customer service reps, for two different things. (200 dollar fee waived to fill up tank when I was furloughed, and payment options on the full tank). They put you on auto fill, which isn't really tracking your usage, they fill your tank when in the area, regardless of what the tank is at, then if its above or below their very slim area of "no upcharge" you get nailed with a dollar gallon. Found this out the hard way when they filled our tank after months of being filled, and charged us 1800 dollars for slightly more than a quarter tank of gas. Save your money and buy your own tank. This way you are in control. Not some shady business who doesn't care about you. read more

There should be a no star, this company is absolutely 100% about ripping off their customers. They could care less about anything but filling their pockets and here is why. If you don't use 800 gallons of propane in a calendar year, you get hit with a $200 penalty, this happened to me last year. Penalized for saving fuel? Called in today to get my tank topped off and meet the 800 gallon quota, told Elizabeth I needed 200 gallons which put me at a full tank and met my quota for the year. She says there is a "new" policy that if you order less than 400 gallons you have to pay an additional .40/gallon. I disagreed was transferred to Tonya. I explained my frustrations with her, and she said it's actually $1.00 extra per gallon. I asked when this policy came into effect, she said a few weeks ago. How convenient, just as Holtzman customers call in to meet their quota, Holtzman throws on an additional fee. I asked why we were not made aware of the change, she said we have 1,700 customers and can't mail that many notices. This is bad, unethical business at its best and has to be illegal. Charge extra, not in my contract, no notice given. Just accept it!!! Absolutely just trying to pad their pockets. STAY AWAY, even if you meet the quota, they are either having a financial problem or just a money hungry greedy business who don't care anything about customer service. read more

LOOK ELSEWHERE and don't buy into the fill the tank first policy! I just recently purchased a home with a free standing gas stove (decorative) that had a leased tank from Holtzman. As part of the new account set up I was required to schedule the new account inspection which was scheduled and I was charged $59.95 for. I had been working with Jacqueline Cooper who to that point was very good to work with. She asked how much was left in the current tank and I stated that there was a little less than 10 %. She then stated that the tank must be filled before the inspection could occur. I agreed and she filled the tank on December 22nd and I was charged 216.10. On December 23 the tech came out to perform the inspection. While polite he was covered in roof soot from a previous job he did and unfortunately upon kneeling in-front of the unit stained my new white carpet. Fine, a little elbow grease and hopefully I should be able to remove the stain, but not exactly the service I was looking for. Immediately he identified that the tank which is leased was not operating completely and failed to shut off. He stated at this point he would not be able complete the inspection and that the tank that was just filled will need to be replaced. Additionally he identified that the free standing gas stove had a faulty leaking pilot light. He left after about 15 minutes since there was not much to do. I then received a call from Jacqueline and after hearing that it would cost at best $500 to fix the unit I stated I was a bit frustrated as I am now left with a faulty tank filled with propane I cannot use. She then stated that she would work to get the tank picked up and have the department issue me a check in credit for the full amount of the inspection and the gas that was not used and close the account. During this call there was no mention of any account closure fee nor a 50% restocking fee. This is not at all how a company should be delivering that information. I then called her this morning and asked why I should have to pay a restocking fee if none of the gas was used and it was your tank and policy that required it be filled, much less why wasn't this mentioned on our previous call. She stated that she thought that she could get it waived but was declined. I asked to speak to a manager and spoke with Tayna Poole. I explained that this was very poor customer service and asked what they would do with the propane in the tank, and she stated it would get pumped out and then resold so I asked why charge me a 50% restocking fee if you are going to resell it. She then got defensive and quite rude and simply stated that this was their policy and nothing I could do about it. Prior to all of this it was very likely I was going to get the stove repaired through my home warranty and then have you all place a new tank. However here I sit now potentially out over $200 with a stained carpet, no working stove and horrible customer service and frankly i feel scammed. I strongly urge anyone looking to use holtzman to steer towards valley energy or another company instead. read more
