Kyle, AKA "Sergeant Slaughter", always has clean kills, is happy to educate his customers (even the very young ones!), and always does a neat job, leaving very little mess at the farm. Jennifer is great with experienced customers like myself, trying new cuts and new ideas, as well as being patient and informative with our customers here at the farm who have never purchased their meat directly or made a custom cut order before. The whole shop bends over backwards to help people, from scheduling pickups outside of regular hours for out of town customers, to donating food to local citizens who otherwise might not have a Thanksgiving dinner, and facilitating science projects for local high schoolers. This is what "small business" should look like. They're local, they're professional, they're organized, and they're philanthropic. We expect to do business with them as long as we live here!

We were looking for a Christmas tree and as fate would have it trees were available here! Just outside the fruitstand, in the winter time, sets a myriad of potential Christmas trees just hoping for the right person to come along and take them home and bring Yuletide joy to their house! They had a pretty good selection of trees here with sizes from around 4 feet all the way up to 10-12 feet. The prices were solid with six and 7 foot trees right around $40-$50. You pick the tree, they cut off a small piece on the base so you can put it in water when you get home and help you tie it to the top of your car if needed. The gentleman helping us, Ramiro, was very nice and made the whole process very easy. We'll be back for fruit in the spring!

Nice little meat locker located on the outskirts of Yakima, way out west. It's a small shop behind…read morethe owner's house and they're doing some great things with meat! The first thing to know is that this place is a little off the beaten path. It's pretty deep into West Valley and about a mile off the main road coming down into the area. It's marked relatively well, but definitely one to stick into Google maps before you head out. We had a couple lambs prepared here and they did it in a timely fashion and for a good price. While here, I got to explore the small room out front where they have a refrigerator with pepperoni sticks, summer sausage and beef jerky. The pepperoni sticks - affectionately known as the pepper stix - were really good. The packs range from about five dollars to $10 and are great for snacking. The summertime is apparently a slow time for butchering meet, but into the fall and winter they have many different options for your meat purchasing pleasure. They smoked turkeys for Thanksgiving, periodically FB for sale and reportedly have lots of pork options later in the year. The guy who runs the place is very nice and takes pride in what he does. It's definitely not a glamorous job, but keeping the people said with delicious meat options rarely is! Worth your time to call these guys up and see what they have available. When you go to the farmers market in Yakima, it really is traveling to the epicenter of the farm…read moreportion of farm-to-table. While it's not a giant market, it encompasses about two city blocks and has Thirty or so vendors. The majority of the vendors are from farms either in Yakima or some of the neighboring communities. When we first attended a few weeks ago, there was an incredible amount of produce available. It ranges from veggies, to berries, to just about any type of fruit you could imagine. The best part however was the fact that there's really not a lot of price difference between here and the stores around. And most farmers markets that we have frequented, there's a significant markup - fortunately that really was not the case here. Aside from the produce, there were a good number of ancillary booths including those specializing in wood carving, a couple cheese makers (YES!), a sausage booth, a few jewelry spots and a number of local organizations advertising to the community- we talked with the master gardeners and they're a fun bunch! The food available here was pretty legit too. A Filipino booth boasts some incredible pork and beef skewers, there's tons of good Mexican food options and a number of other booths rotate through. We're excited to keep seeing what rotates through. In addition to this being a great market, there is incredible potential given the surrounding area. I wouldn't surprise me to see the number of food trucks continue to increase and the non-produce options continue to expand. A+!
