Parking attendant, live music for $7 entrance fee ( cash only) with indoor seating ( which was full 45 minutes prior) and lots of outdoor deck space. Had a great time. A friend and I had time to kill and we knew about the vineyard from the Lenexa Farmers Market booth. We show up and it's a bit different than other wineries we've been to, because it's also a small touristy shop, which amused the heck out us. We're immediately greeted and asked if we're there to shop or would like to also do a tasting, $7 for 6 wines. It being our first time of course we wanted to. Dawn was amazing. Friendly, knowledgeable, & definitely not pushy or ever made us feel rushed like some places do. The wines were tasty and we've got a couple of new favorites now. We had some time off in January and stopped by to try a wine tasting. The place was tucked back in little store and you can see the grape vines. The experience would of been better on a spring or summer day. We were the only people there and tried all the wines nothing gave me the wow factor on flavor. Ended up leaving with one bottle. Holy Fields Vineyard & Winery boasts great wine, events, a cute little shop and a family friendly atmosphere. They have award winning wines for everyone from their Kaw River Rhine for sweet white drinkers to their Chambourcin and Cythiana for dry red drinkers, and everything in between. Their year-round events include: a Friday night Jazz Music Series (free), Dueling Pianos (free), Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre ($50), Harvest Picking Parties (free), and seasonal parties like Oktoberfest (free). For the last 3 years, I've picked grapes at Holy Fields Harvest Picking Parties. Everyone is welcome, including children! Picking parties typically take place Sundays from late August through September at 8am. Reserve your spot by calling the Winery sometime in early August. Show up a little before 8am on your picking day. Then, everyone checks in by name and is given shears and instructions for safe picking (hold the bunch of grapes at the bottom and cut at the top, don't let anything other than grapes in your bucket). Picking goes until around 10:30/11am and then comes lunch. For lunch, the first people to go are whoever showed up in the parking lot first, second is whoever found the grape fairy while picking, then the grape fairy group selects someone they met today by name, and so on. Make new friends if you don't want to be picked last! The best part about lunch is the homemade sangria. And after lunch, you have the opportunity to try wines in their tasting room. Tips for pickers: Wear comfortable, casual, cool clothing, as it can be hot and muddy (if it rained the day before). Bring gardening or plastic gloves, this isn't totally necessary but your hands may get dirty and sticky from the grapes. Don't bring a large purse or leave it in your car, you may have to walk a ways to your picking spot and won't want to carry it through the vineyard. A 30 minute drive from Downtown KCMO, and only a 12 minute drive from Legends Outlets, visit Holy Fields tasting room after a day of outlet shopping, or before an evening at the Kansas Speedway. read more

It's hard to believe we live less than 30 minutes from this place and had never been. Apparently they have been open for 25 years?! I have only heard them mentioned once or twice. Crazy considering we are wine drinkers. We did a tasting and I actually enjoyed almost all of them. I was surprised to find out their wines are made with 100% Kansas grapes from their vineyard. I haven't ever enjoyed a wine made with 100% Kansas wines. I'm also a fan of their ruby Port! I would rate it a n 8 out if 10. I wish the place had more seating. I hear they have live music on Fridays, so I may check that out some time but I can't invite too many friends based on the available seating. read more

Went for an event (murder mystery dinner). The wine tasting room and gift shop was nice. We grabbed a $13 bottle of wine for dinner and went inside. Dinner was served buffet style on strofoam plates with plastic cutlery. There was a pasta dish, 2 meat dishes (chicken & sausage) and a vegetable dish along with rolls. Drinks were water, tea, lemonade and coffee. Food tasted okay. Chicken was a little dry so I went back up for more sausage but the caterer had run out. They also ran out of coffee.... when desert was served (cakes, pies, and cookies) the coffee was gone and they opted not to brew any more. Somewhat disappointing on the food front for $50/plate. The entertainment was a one man show with audience and staff participation. Lots of low brow humor made more enjoyable by the wine for most folks, I think. I think for the price they should serve dinner on read dishes and not run out of food and drink. read more

Enjoyable little winery with tasting room and gift store. Loved the option to taste test several of the wine options that are made right there on the property. They normally charge $7 for 6 samples of wine. If you purchase a bottle of wine however, the tasting fee is removed. The staff was very friendly and thoroughly explained each wine. Our group purchased a couple bottles and were able to sit down to enjoy them there. Wonderful experience. Will definitely be back to one of the events hosted, such as the dueling pianos or murder mystery. read more

A lovely winery located just a little ways from the shops at Legends. They offer live music on Friday nights. My favorite wine was the Tailgate White. Their friendly dog greets you on arrival. The gift shop has lots of fun times for dog lovers. Katie and Erin are two fun filled workers who inform you about all of the wines. You are able to sample six wines for $7.00. I went to the Vineyard with a Meet Up group to pick grapes. It seemed like a nice way to get outside and meet some people on a Sunday morning and it was. Volunteers come out and are given clippers and directions and help the owners bring in the grape harvest. In addition to getting some outside time, being able to eat tasty grapes off the vine and bonding with other pickers, you receive a lunch, some excellent sangria and a commemorative t-shirt for your labor. The day was lovely, the vineyard's dogs were friendly, the lunch was satisfying. I'm not sure why I found a day of farm laboring so satisfying, but I did. I recommend you try it. I've been a fan of Holy Field vineyard for ages. It's a small family vineyard run by Les and Michelle, a father and daughter team. I've met Michelle several times throughout the years at various events because it seems like she's always there. They were one of the first KC area wineries to do wine dinners and events, special tastings and live music. They always have something going on, so it's worth checking out the website to see what's happening. Their tasting room is small and usually crowded. They are open far more often than other wineries in the area, so it's worth coming during the week if you can because they'll be far less busy. They have a large variety of wines, from dryer to sweet, including some fruit wines and a port. Their tastings are free. They ask you to choose 5, but if they're not busy, sometimes they'll give you extra. As a courtesy, I usually always buy a bottle of wine at a free tasting, but with Holy field, it's often hard to limit myself to just one! The workers are courteous and knowledgeable and they have a staff of vineyard dogs who are always around. This place has a great family feel. They welcome tourists and KC natives alike, but you definitely get the impression that they have more than their fair share of regulars. It's not hard to see why! read more

What a cute little family run winery and wine shop! We were immediately greeted when we walked in and tried some delicious wines. The woman assisting us was very sweet and knowledgeable about her wines and told us some stories behind some of them which made the experience more fun! My favorite was the Tailgate Red. Not only do they sell their wines, but they have a ton of wine themed gifts and collectibles. This was bad for me since I wanted to buy everything, but I managed to keep my composure and only purchase two things in addition to my bottle of wine. They have a nice little patio out back to enjoy during the warmer months. Their prices were very reasonable as well. (More local when I lived in Bonner, now it is a bit of a jut from OP, but still worth the visit 110%) Ive been doing the annual harvesting events with friends and second family for years now. They are great with kiddos, the owners are amazing, personable and kind. They have wonderful events, wine, and their shop if perfect for any vino-fiends looking for something special. Many an afternoon I spent on their deck, reading a book and drinking great wine. Yes, Kansas has great wines. They've won several Jefferson Cups. The Jefferson Cup is an invitational only wine contest. It's run by Doug Frost, only one of 3 people in the world who is both a Master Sommelier and Master of Wine. Mandy runs the tasting room and is bubbly as champagne. Owners Les and daughter Michelle are always ready to talk wine. In they are in the vineyard, walk out and say hi. People friendly, children friendly and dog friendly. Murder Mystery Dinners, Friday night music and other entertainment. Only closed a couple of days a year. No TV, but people bring their own to watch sporting events. Volunteers help out for harvest a fun time. Port, Late Harvest Vignoles, Chambourcin are my favorites of several of the wines I like. One year they barreled some Chambourcin on my birthday and I was giving serious thought to buying a whole barrel. Used to help out there at harvest and bottling. One bottling we forgot to turn off the pump to the overhead tank the filled the bottles. Wine was raining down and I ended up getting a white wine shower turning off the pump. read more

This place is so much fun! My husband and I stopped by one afternoon for a quick tasting, and got to sample a bunch of different wines. They were all surprisingly delicious! I'm new to the area, so I wasn't sure how great local wine would be, but I was really impressed. A funny thing about this winery is that inside the tasting room there is no where to sit down. We were told that if they add chairs to the room, it becomes a "bar" and then would need a different license. I do believe you can purchase a bottle and sit on their patio though. We were given a list of events and plan to go back this summer to listen to some live music and enjoy some really good wine! read more

After going to over 115 other wineries, I have yet to find a winery that I like more than Holy-Field. In fact, there were so many wineries that told me about how Holy-Field helped them when they were starting out, it made me like them even more. Everyone is super friendly, the wines are fantastic, the scenery is beautiful. My husband and I even got married here and had a beautiful setting for such a terrific day. We came back last night and celebrated our 1st Anniversary and had a lovely time. My taste is wine has went from more a of sweet fan to liking more dry wines and they have a wine to fit every taste, every mood, or every season. Their 10 year aged port is amazing for the colder nights, the Kaw River Rhine is perfect for the hot summer days, then there's Yogi-berry that is good all year round. I've never had a wine I didn't like here. The gift shop has everything from wine holders, decor, glasses (both glass and plastic), collegiate items, etc. If you come in the winter, make sure to look for the wine filled chocolates, they are out of this world. I feel kind of bad giving this place a 2-star rating, but as far as local midwestern wineries go, it's honestly just not that good. Over the past few years, my wife and I have visited nearly 100 wineries throughout Missouri, Kansas, Indiana, and Michigan, and when compared to the other places we've been to, there's nothing about Holy Field that particularly stands out. Disappointing given the high ratings it currently receives on Yelp. The tasting room is small and lacking in character. Aside from the tasting bar, they have your typical wine-related merchandise, and that's about it. No indoor seating space inside the tasting room. The outdoor seating area was also fairly small. Perched up next to the vineyards, the patio has so much potential to be a great place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine, but for me, the atmosphere was ruined by the fact that the winery sits right alongside a busy road with loud trucks and motorcycles roaring by the entire time. Now to the wine. This is where I was the most disappointed by Holy Field. I am someone who can appreciate all sorts of different wines, so when I go someplace new I want to try the "best" wines they have to offer. At Holy Field they limit the number of wines that they'll let you taste, which is fine. However, when I asked for recommendations, no one behind the bar was willing to offer suggestions as to their best wines for the style. I was on my own to make the decision, so I tried to select wines from a variety of styles. Across the board, they were way too sweet for my liking (even by Midwestern standards), and most of them possessed a tartness that I didn't care for either. All-in-all, it was a really disappointing experience at Holy Field, and I doubt that we'll ever go back. Really upset with how rudely we were treated here. Came planning to try a few wines (had been once years before) and then purchase a bottle to drink in one of their lovely gazebos. Well, the woman bit our heads off as soon as we walked in. I almost turned around and walked out, but we had driven 40 minutes to get there. We were very grudgingly given a couple of wines to try, and she continued to make it very clear that she wished we would drop off the face of the earth. I swear, we did nothing to deserve this treatment! We actually bought a bottle, which I regret, but we did not stay and will not return.Wines were just okay. There are too many wineries with friendly people and better wines (somerset ridge for one) to go back. **editing to add, since not sure how else to respond! I did receive an email from the owner, and thought I responded to that email... Anyway, I appreciate the apology. The experience really upset us - my partner was leaving for ayear-long deployment in just a couple days, and we were looking forward to spending a lovely afternoon together. This is such a great place! I've been going here for a couple of years now because they have live music on Fridays. It's only $5 to get in, and their wine is very good. I haven't bought food here before, I usually pack my own snacks. It gets pretty busy, so if you go I would go a little earlier so you can get a good parking/sitting spot. If you love sweet wines, their Vignoles and Kaw River Rhine are the two I consistently get and love. They have a spacious area and there is always a place to sit. This little place is adorable. We were treated very well, and they let us sample a generous number of wines. The wines are delicious. We had hoped it would be nice out so we could sit in their pretty outside patio area, but the weather sucked, so they graciously allowed us to sit in their indoor event space (even though they were preparing it for a party later that day). The gift shop is awesome. I recommend the Amitie wine if you like white - it's the best crisp white I've ever had. Very good experience. The ladies that worked here were very very nice, talkative and seem like old friends. They had dogs which are a plus and the wine was amazing. They don't have inside seating only outside so that's why I rated it 4/5 stars. Overall it is the best winery I've been too.
