This delightful treasure trove is deliciously packed from head to to toe with a well organized assortment of liquid adult refreshments. As described to me, by the ever helpful owner, bolder, full bodied wines are at the front of the store, and get progressively lighter towards the rear of the store. There are 3 different levels of shelves in the side walls, each shelf has it's own price point. The higher the shelf, the lower the price range. So...decide your price range/ shelf level, and then move to either the front or the back of the store to determine the body of your wine. There is a tag displayed below each wine, to aid in your selecting the perfect wine for your picky palate. The tag lays out the 1) Varietal, 2) Aroma, 3) Palate, 4) Body, and 5) Finish. There is a special shelving unit designated to "6 for $60"; a combination of any 6 bottles for $60. For those of you that are bargain hunting. There is a central unit stocked with an assortment of liquors for those who prefer a stiffer libation, and If beer is what you desire then you're in luck, there is an area consigned to the brew. No matter what you seek, the Underdog has made every effort to please in a way that just makes sense.

But after this weekend's…read morevisit to Amigoni, I can't wait to show visitors this stunning winery with delicious wines! As part of a birthday party, we joined some friends at Amigoni for the first stop, and we all loved the ambiance (stunning, calm, lovely staff) so much that we stayed over 3 hours! We sat in the back bar/barrel room area (back bar was closed that day), but it was a great space for a larger group to be able to spread out and not take up all the space in the front bar area. The barrels gave the room a cozy feel! I'm a fan of wine, but a lot of our friends are not huge wine drinkers--so while they have a lot of great wine to taste (I'll get to that soon!), they also have local drafts and non alcoholic options for your friends/family members who aren't into wine or who don't drink. For their wines, when I went on a Saturday they had two wine flight options, which the staff said they change about every two weeks! I got the basic flight to get a better idea of their standard wines, and I wasn't disappointed with any of them--and as others have noted, they are pretty heavy with their tasting pours, just FYI! I was able to try the Urban White Blend (chardonnay and viognier), Cabernet Franc Rose (one of their original makes from the early days), Sangiovese, Zinfandel, and the Select (petit verdot and tannat). All were lovely and delicious! Thanks to everyone at Amigoni Winery who made the birthday celebration special, cozy, and delightful! Can't wait to go back and enjoy more wines next time!

A winery? In Kansas City? I don't know what possessed me into going here; I'm not an oenologist but…read moreI'm pretty certain it was going to be worse than the garbage I've tried on Long Island so why not give it a try? The space was in a pretty quiet street, across from a pretty non-descript office building. I wasn't expecting too much inside but I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the interior had much more personality than the outside. The interior had high ceilings, the bar was on the left and before we sidled up to the bar we explored the space. There was an upstairs space that looked down into the lobby and the rear area had a bar and was also nicely decorated. The rear area had a little more people so we decided to go back up front. We decided to do both of the tasting options and share. I enjoyed the limited production tasting better and the reds over the whites. Like with a lot of tastings, the wine club was pushed but since I was only staying one more day I wasn't interested. However, our host did give us a taste of the T10 which I enjoyed so much that I bought a bottle of that. I shared it with some people who know and enjoy wine and they were also pleasantly surprised with it.

Tom's Town Distillery was the unexpected highlight of my flying visit to Kansas City. I came for a…read moredrink and left with a history lesson. Little did I know that President Truman's political rise was deeply rooted in Kansas City--and facilitated by Tom Pendergast's sprawling web of influence, from concrete contracts to control of the police. It quickly becomes clear why they called it Tom's Town. I booked a tour at the last minute on a Saturday night, showed up 15 minutes early, and eased into the evening with a few sips of a perfectly made Old Fashioned--yes, you're allowed to bring it with you on the tour. From there, it was part distillery walkthrough, part Prohibition-era storytelling, and part generous spirits tasting. Our guide, Tony, was outstanding--enigmatic, passionate, and incredibly articulate. He brought the history to life without ever feeling rehearsed or dry. The dimly lit lounge rooms seal the deal, giving the entire place an authentic speakeasy vibe that feels both polished and transportive. If you're in Kansas City--even briefly--this is a must. Come for the cocktails, stay for the history.

This review is for the Bar Downstairs:…read more We went to Tom's Town because we heard about the popup (?) Mad Hatter/Alice in Wonderland themed downstairs bar. The space was so cool - everywhere you looked was a nod to the book/movie. The drinks/cocktails were aptly named and we tried a couple of them. The blackberry bramble (I believe) was especially good. We did not eat dinner, but we did get the giant oatmeal cream pie and split it as we sat with our cocktails.
