I can't speak to the bagels and anything made to order off the menu- as my first time was simply to get an iced latte. I ordered a vanilla iced latte and go it to go. The place is very well lit, hard wood flooring, table and booth seating as well as a meeting room in the back. There are a variety of items from warm ready to go stick buns, to bagel bins with a variety of flavors. Also there is a fridge with sodas as well. My iced latte was very powerful in terms of sweet, robust dark powerful coffee behind it. I really enjoyed it. It had all the elements of an iced coffee style beverage that I look for. Upon my next trip I'll get a sandwich and or some type of bagel and check back. Also- one point of note is that there is a prayer wall and a prayer box. Hey- everyone needs'em. My sister and I were in town visiting our parents for the holidays. My mom took us here one morning for a girl's coffee date. What a wonderful little place that has a wide coffee and food menu and the kindest staff members you can ask for! The woman working the front was so patient as we looked over the menu to decide what to order. She also was very helpful with making sure she made our drinks to our preferences. The coffee and food is made fresh, so we had to wait a few minutes, but it was worth the wait! My sister got a hazelnut latte, I got a dirty chai latte with oat milk (made with a tea bag instead of the chai flavored syrup), a cinnamon raisin gluten free bagel and my mom got a black coffee. We had a great time sitting in the cafe catching up and enjoying what we ordered. This is a great example of a local shop you can go to that makes you feel loved, welcome and offers quality drinks just as good as a big chain coffee shop can. read more

I was in LaVale on business and in need of a good lunch and place to catch up on my email. Local spots tend to be my go-to, and Holy Grounds Bagels and Coffee at Burton's Plaza on National Highway (easy access from I-68) could not have been better. Holy Grounds is a new locally-owned business offering custom-made sandwiches and a wide selection of coffees and desserts. The staff was professional, polite, and attentive. The decor is very comfortable, with seating available at tables or a communal table made of really cool reclaimed wood. Most importantly, the sandwich was delicious (I had the veggie on an everything bagel), as was the coffee, which is imported from Colorado. This was my first visit to Holy Grounds, but it will not be my last! read more

My family tried Holy Grounds for the first time a few weekends ago. I was excited for fresh bagels and delicious coffee. I was sadly disapointed. The bagels didn't taste fresh and the coffee did not taste good. The chive cream cheese, however, was delicious. What a little bit of heaven and earth in a little strip mall in LaVale, Md. My wife and I had the bagel breakfast with a Vanilla latte and I had a flat white. The atmosphere is calming, and the spirit of holiness from the name makes it a wonderful experience. The bagels and coffee were amazing, as well as the people who prepared our breakfast. Well- I was really hoping a bagel coffee shop would open with the ummmph of a city shop. I wanted this to be a hot, new, great place that I could not live without. However, it was mostly a Luke warm meh. It's a counter order type place with a newly poster type menu to your right as you order. ALL of the prices were crossed out in pen marker and added money to each item. Since they are right across from a staples, maybe you could order a new one?? I don't mind paying, but the quality is just not there. It didn't look very professional. It seemed to say, we need more for this average Joe. And that it was- the bagels have a powder mix type taste and were somewhat small for the 3$ price with cream cheese. I got plain bc none really jumped at me. I have to say market bagels in bags( organic ones) are superior to these. I'm not 100% sure they are boiled. What the???? Next up espresso; noting that Dewey Eggberts is really very similar, and it may very well be that brand. I dunno, but I've tried twice here to get a good coffee and this place falls short. The espresso shots were weak and of course limited froth more like a machine foam. Nothing I can't duplicate or mostly make better. My wife makes good ones. The place is very clean and organized. It takes a long time to get your items. 10 minutes for two coffees and a bagel is too long. What's the holdup?? - the place has a religious theme going. Nice enough, but I have to think it will alienate some. Perhaps mini menus that explain the items- people prior were complaining about some French toast fiasco. "Not what they had guessed". I'm guessing it's going to be a tough cross to bare for this place. I wish them success. The time, the cost, the taste just don't add up here for me. read more

I stopped at holy grounds on my trip through Cumberland area. I was able to order online and pay by Apple Pay. I am always amazed and super excited when small businesses have the technology built into their service. I ordered a gluten free everything bagel veggie sandwich. I am not gluten free but was trying to eat healthy on the road. The sandwich was awesome and just what I needed to keep moving along my trip without going to Fast food chain restaurant. The bagel was pretty dense but Pretty much what you expect of a gf bagel. The veggies and hummus were very good. The vegetables were good quality. Within 15 minutes of ordering online, cashier had my order already to go and less you been nice enough to let me use their restroom. Will definitely add Holy Grounds to my road trip food options. read more

This is one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a coffee house/bagel shop. My girlfriend and I preordered 2 everything bagels with cream cheese (they don't spread cream cheese) and a breakfast sandwich on a bagel. The bagels were burnt and rock hard, not even close to edible. The breakfast sandwich had what looked to be plastic cheese and a disgusting egg on it. I also got an iced dirty chai latte, all milk, no espresso (coffee instead) and the bottom was coated in a disgusting flavoring. The food was over priced and extremely mediocre. We will never come back and advise against stopping here if you're hungry. Highly disappointed and we had to pay for another meal due to the lack of quality provided by Holy Grounds. Five stars, for a small business in Cumberland, MD. Holy Grounds exceeded my expectations. I enjoy finding a locally-owned business that has a welcoming atmosphere. I ended up getting a lunch special for a California turkey bagel (YUM) and a large iced hazelnut macchiato (double YUM). Highly recommend.
