Betsy was warm, compassionate and very understanding. We were so happy to find an in-home euthanasia option--our dog Rocket has always hated/feared the vet, and it was just torture to think of him spending his last minutes there. I'm not sure I could add much to the reviews already posted here. It's rare that any service provider gets straight A's, but some people are somehow chosen for a role in life that is immeasurably perfect. Betsy is one of those people who seems to have chosen to dedicate her life to others and life chose her back. i can't imagine having the grace to do what she does day after day. The training and expertise required to become a vet is something that can be done with enough intellect, dedication and money, but the ability to care for the sick who cannot talk, understand the pain and guilt that is the handmaiden of the love one has for a pet, and take upon her shoulders the compassion and task of euthanasia is a rare gift. It is a gift she gives from a heart that makes the one the Grinch gets after his epiphany with Cindy Loo Who seem small in comparison. Seven or eight years ago Betsy ushered out our beloved Golden, Guinness, from this life after his bone cancer became too much to bear for our family and him. Yesterday, when she arrived on a Sunday, our family was a mess having to let go Whiskey, our Golden Doodle. Betsy came to our house a couple of months ago because our dog's cancer had reached the point where she was beginning to suffer. Panda hated going to the vet and would start trembling the moment we got there and try to hide under my chair. I did not want her last moments to be so anxious so I called Betsy. Having to say goodbye to our beloved 20 year old kitty, Lisa, was heart wrenching. I called on Dr. Betsy Johnson, because she had such positive Yelp reviews. She was everything Yelpers described. Dr. Johnson was a calm, kind, and grounded presence; she took time and care to make sure Lisa did not feel an ounce of discomfort or fear. Dr. Johnson came the same day we called her (very important if you've made your decision/your pet is suffering), arrived on time, and took a seat on the floor. She asked appropriate questions about Lisa's health and was genuinely interested to hear about her life. During the euthanasia process, Lisa remained on her favorite kitchen chair, with my husband and me on either side of her. It was a gentle, peaceful, dignified passing. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Johnson. My 18 year old cat had to be put to sleep this past weekend. I'd contacted several doctors before her - one was unavailable, and one was prohibitively expensive. Dr. Johnson got back to me right away and was able to come out mid-morning on a Saturday. Her rates are very resonable. She was incredibly tender and gentle with our cat and had a lovely bedside manner. For us it was an incredibly sad experience, but for our cat, she was simply relaxing in her favorite bed, suddenly started feeling really good (thanks to a narcotic shot) and then just fell asleep (thanks to a sedative). In-home euthanasia is absolutely the best option and Dr. Johnson is a wonderful, caring animal lover whom I would recommend to anyone needing her services. read more

Dr. Johnson was able to come to our home quickly to help us say goodbye to our wonderful dog who had collapsed for the second time in a few days. After the first collapse we learned she had hemangiosarcoma with days to live. She recovered on her own and seemed almost normal for three days before having another large bleed. I was frantic worrying how we would get her in the car to ride to the vet and worrying if her pain medication was working, and luckily I saw an ad for home euthanasia. Dr. Johnson was able to come to us and gave our beloved pet a calm, peaceful, and pain-free ending with us nearby, but not holding her, just like our dog always liked to be. I was referred to Betsy Johnson by a friend who had also used her with home euthanasia. We owned and greatly loved our Bichon, Princess, for 14 years and when she began to fail, I knew I wanted to have her last days spent in our home. I talked to Betsy on the phone and when it became too hard to speak, she offered communication by email. Over the course of two weeks, we did email and she was very understanding and patient with me and my family during the roller coaster weeks leading up to the final decision. Dr. Betsy Johnson was very compassionate and calm and made a very difficult experience so much better. We needed at home euthanasia for our 15 year old cat with lymphoma. She is a warm and gentle and perceptive person who made the process as easy as possible. She brought high quality catnip for both our cats. We were really worried about our other cat who was very strongly bonded to him. We also did not want his last experience to be in a scary place away from the family who love him. She gave him excellent care and made his process painless with a relaxing drug administration which we could feel him finally be out of pain before euthanasia. It was the best we could have ever hoped for in this situation. I recommend Dr. Johnson to anyone who loves all their pets. Everything you read in the other comments is true. Our dog had been sick for over a year but took a sudden turn for the worse. She came 1 1/2 hours after we called her and was extremely compassionate. I would recommend her to anyone who has to euthanize their beloved pet and would prefer to do it in the privacy of their own homes. read more

Today I had to put my 16 yo Purr to sleep due to end stage kidney disease. For 2 weeks I gave her SQ fluids but she continued to fail. I couldn't imagine taking my sweet cat to a vet who would put her on a cold table and end her life. Yesterday someone gave me Betsy Johnson's name so Purr could go at home. I called her yesterday am and she came to us this am. She is loving, kind and compassionate to both my Purr and my daughter and sister. She stayed as long as we needed her and talked us. I knew I would like Betsy as soon as she answered her phone. We had to put our dog down today (cancer and liver failure), and she was wonderful throughout the process from start to finish. She spent at least an hour and a half with us, most of the time asking us about our dog and looking at photo after photo of his life, allowing us to relive all the exuberance and goofiness that he used to have until just a few weeks ago. My husband wanted to hate her - after all, look what she was doing to our dog - but he thought she was wonderful as well. After she left and it was all over and done, we kept saying what a great job she did and how much we liked her. My dear sweet dog could not walk on her own, and getting her to a vets for euthanasia would have been so traumatic for her. Having her home in her own comfortable surroundings, with Dr.Betsy easing her out of a tired old body, was a tremendous gift. First she sedates them so they are peaceful. (My old doggie was snoring happily!)... Then when everyone is ready, she helps them to pass easily into what surely must be a great reward for all the good they have done for us on earth.
