Apparently she had taken my message as an attempt to immediately cancel all services, which it was not. Instead of allowing me to clarify or get a word in at all, Leslie yelled at me for the duration of two phone calls, hung up on me, and refused to listen to my voicemail. Her behavior was borderline unhinged. She turned a misunderstanding on her part into a verbal assault and complete severance of our contract. This episode was extreme enough that I would no longer trust her with my dog or as a reasonable person with whom to conduct any sort of business.

We work A LOT so I was blowing through dog walkers and dog sitters left and right. My dogs are small. They're sweet. They're emotional. They require some patience and tenderness that I was sure I was never going to find in a dog walker/pet sitter. I have an irrational obsession with both of my dogs -- I found one in kennel in South Korea, sick and abused. The other we got at another shelter and she is vivacious and social when comfortable, but often uncomfortable. They sleep in the bed. Eat salad. You get it. I'm crazy, my dogs live well and I want them to always live well. My husband told me a few weeks after moving to Lake Boon that there was a dog daycare on our street, 3 houses down. I thought he was seeing things. I had spent the entire summer interviewing, hiring and being disappointed by dog walkers/pet sitters. "She hid under the couch so I didn't walk her" "he didn't eat... last meal was 3 days ago. is that ok?" On and on. So, there was NO WAY there was a pet sitter on my street. And my husband now can say "this is the one meaningful, useful thing I have contributed to our relationship" - he found the BEST dog sitters ever! 5 doors down. We recently traveled internationally and for the first time ever, I gave my dogs to someone who doesn't share half my DNA. This was not easy. We are back now and my dogs are so happy and I can tell they have been happy since we were gone. I know they missed us but they were SO well cared for. They slept in beds. They snuggled. They played. They walked. They got individual attention - they were cared for as well as I would care for them and that is soooooo perfectly wonderful. You all are fantastic and we thank you so much! We have two young rescue dogs, one of which was horribly abused and is thus very shy and afraid of people and takes a long time to warm up to anyone. We wanted to schedule several visits over the course of Feb-May to be sure our dogs would be comfortable with their caretaker while we were away. We met with the owner, and then with a caretaker, which seemed to go well. Then when we tried to schedule another visit, we got put off and put off multiple times over weeks with various excuses ranging from weather to injury and no callbacks, we always had to initiate communication. After several weeks of this treatment, we were informed by the owner that our dogs were too high maintenance and that Fresh Trails was not willing to work with us. Let me say, for the record, that I totally understand rescue dogs being difficult to work with, especially one who was as abused as our poor girl was. I do not fault Fresh Trails at all for declining to work with a dog with issues of that nature. Where I do find fault is with the incredibly unprofessional way we were treated, especially as Fresh Trails was well aware of our time constraints and our desire to give our girls plenty of time to get used to their caretaker. It should not have taken 2 months to come to the decision that our girls were too challenging, especially when several weeks had elapsed since the last visit.

There was a crisis three years ago when Miss Violet swallowed a long string, and we weren't due back for another week. Mary handled the situation beautifully and kept us abreast of what was going on before and after the procedure to remove it. (Thanks, Mary!) Mary has apologized for endearing herself so to Miss Vi, and we forgive her wholeheartedly. She's become indispensable to our gadabout family. I can't recommend Mary Littlefield highly enough to anyone who travels and needs to leave a shy kitty at home.

Most notable was a dog whose owners were away on a 3 week trip, and Mary was hired to take care of him three times a day. This dog was clearly depressed without his owners. Mary cheered him right up and stayed extra hours with him. She took photos of him and sent them to his owners. Mary understood his emotions and was able to comfort him. At another house there were two cats. When we arrived, they were hiding. Once Mary was there, they came running out. Mary doesn't just feed cats and go, she stays and pets them, plays with them, sits with them and puts them in her lap. What was apparent was how every animal loved and trusted her. She was able to be kind and gentle, but was also able to be firm and set boundaries with dogs that got out of control. You will love Mary's services!

This location does not seem to follow the national guidelines. Doggy day cares should have a minimum of 15 to 1 dog to boarder ratio based on active dogs. Most day cares are 10 to 1. Most Boston Dog locations have a minimum 20 to 1 ratio (possibly larger) which is too high unless all dogs are considered not active! What dog is not active, especially younger dogs? None! After having evaluated the Chelmsford location, I have decided that this location doesn't warrant a good review. The manager of Boston Dog Company at Chelmsford does not seem to really care about the dogs; it's a business, that's all. If you want a caring day care, don't go here.

Zara was a little anxious from the car ride but I know that she will be well cared for by Christine and Kent and get lots of walks & socialization. We originally had our first dog Casey start back in 2011. We loved the original daycare and we still very much love Country Canine Retreat with our 2nd dog, Dolly. Dolly is a rescue and had some baggage come with her at 4 months old in 2016 (or so). She has some sass, she's a bit bossy, loves her cuddle time, belly rubs and has enough energy to keep the lights on at the Boston Garden and Patriot's Place! The staff has done an excellent job keeping her busy, entertained, engaged throughout the 5 days a week. She plays with several dogs throughout the day. She loves CCR, recognizes all the staff and comes home sometimes with even more energy at (almost) 11 years old. By Friday, she is one tired happy dog. I love talking with the staff and owner. They are kind, considerate, knowledgeable. I trust them completely. I cannot imagine Dolly going anywhere else.
