This is the only way. To have this being done at home is the best thing that I could have asked for. instead of the hospital your pet can go peacefully away in the comfort of your home. Furthermore, you can just TEXT her. When you don't want to physically talk about what's going on because it can be really hard to speak about it you can just text her from the start. I was home alone as my family had just left on vacation and I could not carry him to my car to take him to the vet (he was 75 lbs). I called and texted Dr. Holt. I told her the whole situation - that my dog was suffering and dying and needed care as soon as possible, because he did not have much time left. I was distraught and having an incredibly difficult time. After calling her and texting her, she texted me back. She told me she was booking out a week in advance and couldn't help me. I honestly felt no sincere, genuine compassion or concern. When I told her the whole situation and how my dog was suffering, I didn't feel true sympathy. Not even a real effort to connect me with another traveling vet when I asked. They just told me to go to their website. I understand schedules are busy. And I called Dr. Holt because I was reading great reviews about how she made time to come same day for other clients despite having a booked schedule. But sadly, I did not feel that same compassion extended to us. And it was not translated through the text messages. (Perhaps in the future, if a client calls and texts you multiple times, you can call back instead of text back. It just translates better and clearer.) When I called a local veterinary hospital, however, they were also booked solid that day. However, they still asked their entire staff to see if anyone could drive out to me. Because they were so busy in the clinic, nobody could come out to me, but they told me if I could get him there, they would absolutely make time to take care of him. I had to call the local police department to come and help me carry him to my car. In his last moments, I felt more compassion from an actual veterinary hospital than SGAH. Unfortunately, I will only have this experience to share with my friends and family if they ever have to make this terribly tough decision to put a beloved pet to sleep. I cannot in good conscience recommend Say Goodbye At Home. Instead, find a vet that is actually willing to go above and beyond, who truly loves animals enough to do everything they can to make sure they don't have to suffer for longer than they have to. Dr Holt deserves all the stars. As someone who has previously worked in the veterinary field, I knew the insides and outs of pet euthanasia, but never from the perspective of being the owner. When my beloved Chewy started going downhill, I dreaded the idea of making this decision. I created a very detailed and specific plan where I was going to go back to original vet (in NY, I live in MA now) so both he and I would be around all my previous coworkers and friends. Due to COVID19, our plans were ruined. I prayed that he would be able to live past this terrible time and continue with the plan, but the morning of 3/29/20, he made it clear to me that he was suffering. I spoke with Dr. Holt and she graciously found time during the same day to come and ease him from his suffering. Knowing what I know from working as a vet tech, it meant the world to me that she took measures that he was not only sedated, but without pain during the whole process. She assured me that she would treat his body with the upmost respect after his passing and that was one of my most pressuring concerns (for many people and vet clinics, this is NOT the case). All our pets get very nervous and anxious as soon as they see the doors of the vet's office so we did not want this for our final goodbye to Cooper, our English Golden of almost 15 years. In my personal opinion I would like to tell you of horrible experience with Dr. Susan Holt of Say Goodbye at Home which was quite different from reviews telling of a caring, engaged, compassionate and comforting person, as she was nothing like the person who came to our door. From the outset she never touched or greeted our dog or gave him an exam. There was no interacting, engaging or acknowledging our dog, and he looked quite tense and kept looking around. Waiting for some sort of guidance and direction, we were standing around, holding our dog, when she suddenly came up behind us and quickly injected our dog startling him and causing him to loudly yelp as it was painful. Never asked if we needed more time to say goodbye or if we would have liked to sit down for the injection. She was very uncommunicative, barely answering me at times. But now our opportunity was gone because our dog was drifting off to sleep.We had to quickly put him on the couch, where she instantly prepped him for the IV, causing him to awaken because he wasn't given enough time for the sedation to work, so yet another injection was given, then the IV. We felt rushed through the whole process. His final exit was being wrapped in a disposable puppy pad and we had to carry our own dog out to the overloaded trunk of her car which had just enough room for him as she pushed him into a lightly colored trash bag and shoved him to the back. This final farewell was devastating and heartbreaking and not what I envisioned. I expected so much more and got so much less. Our dog deserved better. Where was the Dr. Holt who takes the time to pet and talk to a dying dog, making him feel comfortable, encouraging owners to sit down and say their goodbyes before sending him to a peaceful sleep and brings them out in dignity. She did not live up to my expectations. NEVER EVER hire a vet who is about to go on vacation. It is too late for my dog but don't let it be too late for your dog. read more

We had to put down our dog after 15 years of her being part of our family. It was a very emotional event and for the sake of our dog we wanted it to be at home, in a familiar place and with family around her. Dr. Holt helped us. Having euthanized an abundance of animals over the past 35 years or so, never did I think it would be possible for me to be able to say farewell in the comfort of my own home. Compared to having to stuff your cat (or other pet) in a kennel, transport them to the place of demise, laying him/her out on a sterile, stainless steel table, and wishing them safe passage, this was, by far, the MOST fulfilling experience I have ever, and I mean ever, goodbye I have ever had with a beloved familiar. Dr. Holt IS an animal angel. Compassionate, understanding, non-judgemental and caring. Unbelievably responsive (but call, don't email). She provides a way to say farewell to our beloved at home. In comfort. Surrounded by those who love him, comfortably, in a place perceived as safe and loving. By my side. Trust me. I cannot describe the comfort that I received in that.
