She called me in less than 5 minutes after I filled out the online request. My family had just gone through an unimaginable tragedy with the sudden death of 3 immediate family members in a terrible accident and we urgently needed a caregiver for my mother who just lost 3 of her children. SUE spent at least an hour on the phone with me, just out of pure kindness and sympathy, even though she knew she did not have someone who could come in our area immediately to care for my mom. She promised me, however, that she would work very hard to find the right person as soon as possible and even if she was not able to do so, she would keep calling me frequently to keep me posted and to check on my and my mother's well-being. I never in a million years expected that kind of amazing service. I'm sure that was not in her job description. There are still WONDERFUL people in this world and Sue is one of them. My dad was in hospice here in his final days. I felt he was well attended to regarding our family's…read morewishes and staff is very kind and patient. It was generally kept quiet and felt stress/chaos free. That was important to me as dad didn't respond well to unnecessary noise or conflict. He had his own room and personal space that was designed to feel like there was ownership and autonomy in living. Affording a continuous environment that was his, and while he was attended to, it was his and there was pride in this. He was well cared for regarding his diet and was kept clean and comfortable. When dad passed and the facility wanted our family to transfer him asap to the funeral home, we rather abruptly explained that he would remain present until rites were performed and visitors had their opportunity to sit with him and the family. We really pushed the limit on this and they were respectful at all times and didn't rush us past the initial announcement of his passing. That grace is what I will remember most. When we finally dissolved into dysfunction, staff continued to treat us gently and never outwardly judged us. We were definitely a challenge. Overall they expertly cared for my precious father and extended that compassion to my family. I am so glad he was able to pass safely. He deserved only the best.

They overcharged my elderly, disabled father twice, allowed their employees to make their own hours & acted extremely unprofessionally when we brought this to their attention. Their "director of operations" Reilly Buck (the owners son, big surprise) is also ALL about the money and NOT client care or services. We had 3 different care givers in a 2 1/2 week span, 2 call outs, then they charged my dad to train their "field supervisor" Mike, while another care giver was also in the home attending to my dad. They are beyond unprofessional & shady. I wonder how many people they take advantage of on a daily basis by overcharging clients especially when the clients themselves are the ones needing extra care & assistance? Totally immoral to do in this industry and to people who need and are paying for help. I have no doubt that they charge the VA & Medicaid hours that they're employees do not even work & we will also be contacting the appropriate state departments with our complaints in the hopes no one else gets taken advantage of by this terrible care giving agency.

I am 70 years old and live alone since my wife passed in '16 and kids live outside. So I am hobbling alone at home on crutches taking care of myself and 2 labs. Surgeon advised surgery to place screw and plate because both tibia and fibula were displaced to different degrees. Becky from Midnight Sun sent service agreement, which I could not copy due to faulty printer, but I emailed Becky back in which I confirmed I agreed. I also notified surgeon that Midnight Sun would transport me to and from surgery and care for me afterwards. I called repeatedly as surgery day approached (and so did doc's office) to no avail. Neither of us could get a call back. Meanwhile Home Care Assistance of Anchorage, whom I called early on to tell them I decided on Midnight Sun CALLED ME TO MAKE SURE I WAS OK AND SET UP FOR SURGERY. Moral of story: I should have enlisted Home Care Assistance of Anchorage to do the job right from the beginning.

I hired this agency to help me find a caregiver for my Dad who has Alzheimer's. I live out of…read morestate and was the one paying the bill, but they refused to share the contact information of the caregiver with me, citing that it was their policy. Obviously because of his diagnosis, he had trouble remembering the caregiver's schedule/suggesting tasks for her, etc. He told me the caregiver was also not allowed to drive him to appointments because she "felt uncomfortable with someone else in her car." Finally I wrote to the agency saying I would not be using them (Home Instead is much more transparent/ethical). However, this agency allowed my DAD to hire them directly, knowing his diagnosis, and continues to charge him for the caregiver. I can't speak to the actual quality of his caregiver, who seems young and very nice (but apparently told my dad she "needs the money" so he continues to use her despite aforementioned limitations). Be very wary using them for your loved ones!

Than, if we weren't home during the 30 minute range (earlier than that sometimes) they would call and be extremely about why weren't home and how we were holding them up, etc, (mind you, my mother's last one dropped off). My mother is 90 years old. The Hearts and Hands vehicle is a normal van with a ramp to access the backseat. They would have my mother walk up the ramp, hunch over and get into the back seat of the van. She'd have a hard time getting out of the seat and her legs were pretty bruised up from that daily escapade. Not only that, my mother has Alzheimer's, some days she'd be easy going and other days she'd be anxious. So they would send her home on the days she was anxious. LITERALLY, it was, say, 9 AM pick up, 9:40 AM call saying they're going to return her. Over the summer that wasn't as big a problem, as my daughter was home for the summer, but when she (my daughter) wasn't home, and my son and I were, at school or work, respectively, issues rose, as neither of us could really get out of school/work at the drop of dime. To top it all off, if my mother, even sneezed, they would send her home, "contagious" they said. We would watch her and see if she was sick. Nothing. Not a sneeze. Not a cough. Nothing. Which led me to believe, they just didn't want her there. And there is so much more. Not only that, the place is a drab. Dark. Ugly. Depressing. The staff does not like their job and you can CLEARLY tell by their facial expressions. If you don't like your job, get a new one. This place is definitely not a place to send a loved one. Unless you want to depress them. I would not recommend this place. The only thing I "liked" was that they would pick her up and drop her off, and they would give her rides to places every now and than. Other than that, I regret sending my mother for as long as I did. Horrible Place.

They provided individualized care that capitalized on his strengths. He loved to feel productive and of service. They allowed him to do essential tasks that contributed to his sense of well being. Nothing but excuses: The doctor is out of town, the doctor filling in is very busy, the FAX machine is broken, the doctor has left for the day, etc. Meanwhile 5 Death Certificates showed up at the funeral home from Frontier yesterday, but not my father's. They had moved on, but forgotten my father! Meanwhile, life for the family is at a standstill, because, without the Death Certificate you cannot bring closure to any of the deceased person's affairs. Insult to death. So, I wait...
