We looked up places to eat and Cobourg diner seemed to have a lot of choices ... especially since I was keen on having a healthy salad. As a regular customer I also stop by for a coffee or tea whenever I visit Cobourg; however today I was very disappointed by the unfriendly customer service. Today I was downtown shopping in -20C weather and left my cellphone at home by accident, I did not take my vehicle and really needed to make an immediate phone call. I asked the barista to use the phone and she stated that the shop did not have a phone. I then ordered a latte and politely asked how the coffee shop receives phone calls from customers. She stated that the phone belonged to the owner. I then asked her to ask him to borrow his phone. I heard him say a flat out no (she returned with the excuse that he did not have his phone)- not only was this a blatant lie but was a great inconvenience to me. ...great way to help customers in freezing weather.

Like others have noted about the tea, it came Luke warm. The water had never came close to boiling- it was pretty clear. When my pancakes came they had black chunks of left over grill bits from (more than likely) bacon because my pancakes literally tasted like bacon. My wife made a snark comment that maybe my side of bacon was cooked into the pancakes, because it seemed to be true. Noting the sides- I had to ask for my bacon because it didn't come with the main dish. My wife had to ask for her home fries for the same problem and I also had to ask for syrup because that was now where to be seen too. Ultimately the experience was less then stellar and we won't be going back. As for the service/ wait staff, it appeared no one knew their role. The 1 server was over worked so the two "cooks" had to help out, but this only complicated orders, who said what and who ordered what and where. This was obviously to see due to other patrons also asking for missing parts, drinks, and orders all together being mended together when they asked for separate bills. The server was a sweet lady, and doesn't deserve to have to work that floor alone so I left a generous tip. The ambiance had a lot of swearing. The table beside was non-stop talking about "knocking someone out" and "eff this" and "eff that." I get it- young people can be less aware, but if I had kids I would have walked out long before I got up a stood at the front for my bill. The table was sticky when we sat down as well. I watched her serve a table after handling uncooked meat and say to that customer "oh wow she really fxxxed that up eh?" Across the room from a man and his young daughter.
