Through American Home Shield I got master plumber Brian assigned to me for a leaking valve. He knew what he was doing and had a new valve in place in about 30 minutes. I don't doubt that they might send younger/unqualified folks out to assess jobs--I've had my struggles with some contractors over the years--but my experience was very positive. read more

There are way too many sour reviews of this company on here from people who can't grasp the concept of how warranties work. Home Service Corp did a great job. Mohammad and Jamie explained the situation with our AC and were transparent about it. The earliest they were able to see us was on a Friday, and when Jamie got there and figured out the issue, he scheduled us for a next day appointment on Saturday. That is lightning fast service for an HVAC company! They resolved the issue to the extent possible and gave us a range of options moving forward. I normally am apprehensive about the companies that warranties like to partner with and have had bad experiences in the past, but Home Service Corp was very helpful and supportive. Would use again even without warranty. read more

Home Service Corp came to check my furnace through our home warranty plan. I was told they would call on their way, but did not receive a call. The technician came right at the start of the service window and was friendly enough, but essentially did nothing to look at the furnace. I reported that throughout the day it was making a weird sound as if it were trying to turn on, but couldn't. He turned the thermostat off and on again and then turned up the temperature for the furnace to kick on. Then he went to the furnace and confirmed that it kicked on and told me it was fine. I asked if he was going to do a more thorough inspection of the furnace and he said there was "no need, it's fine". This was a complete waste of the service fee I paid and of my time. It's unfortunate that this is who American Home Shield uses for service. read more

My home warranty company (American Home Shield) sent these clowns out to service our central air. Our central air was not blowing very hard and at one point we could not feel it blowing at all even though it was running. They sent out a guy who looked like he was in high school. My furnace was old but this kid did not even know how to open the panel where the filter goes. Literally that is all he did and tells me we have a leak and their "standard procedure" is to just recharge the unit but not fix the leak. Awesome. He recharges it but it still isn't blowing hard. I tell him so and he says it seems to be running fine. The next day it is obvious it is not working properly. I call AHS again and I tell them this is urgent since they did not fix the first time. Again they Assign Home Service Corp and they tell me 6 days to come out. so much for urgency! They come out again. Same kid comes out again. All this guy uses to check things is an app on his phone. Whatever happened to actual gauges? He doesn't even feel how the air is blowing out of my vents. He tells me it's operating properly. It's at 30K BTUs. I ask how much a new AC unit would cost and am quoted $4500. Finally, my brother in law, a retired maintenance guy who did industrial heating and cooling drove out to Westland from his house out in Marine City. He tells me right away the compressor is bad and if they had felt the air they should have known that. He puts me in touch with a buddy who does heating and cooling in Mt. Clemens. He comes out, says he'd have to get into the AC to verify but said yeah, seems like its a bad compressor. Long and short he came out two days later and we had both our AC and Furnace replaced for a TOTAL of $4600. Yes we got a great deal due to my brother in law but it is clear that HSC did NOT want to to do this job. So instead of my warranty covering this I paid out of pocket. DO NOT USE!!! They were recommended by home warranty company American Home Shield (AHS). They came out to diagnose our hot water heater. The tech was at our home about 10 minutes. They NEVER contacted us again. We called AHS to find out the status. They told us we owed the company $1,400.00 to begin work. Why....To install a new hot water heater they priced in a new electric fuse box and new plumbing. We shopped around for a second opinion and found out none of these upgrades were necessary. They also included over $400.00 in fees for permits. We called the city and found out the total fee for permits was only $175.00. Save time and money....do not use this company!! read more

SENIOR SCAMMERS!!!!! BEWARE!!!!! One star is the least you can give.... We had this company who we were told changed their name, to come out and fix our A/C. MY husband said when he put the coolant in, they usually put much more. Tech said. Oh no this is all that can fit... Tech then took out a gauge and placed it on a pipe. Said "OH WOW!! THIS PIPE IS " ON FIRE!". In order to fix it, I have to do a chemical cleanse... Which is not covered thru Dte warranty. We are Seniors and quite honestly don't have that $$. When be Saud ON FIRE? I panicked!! My husband said, Dr doing have that $$,I said we will have to use our medicines $$. So? We did. He took our garden hose and "cleansed" it!!!!!! Then he used his gauge and Said. "Hmmm seems my gauge isn't working!!". He called his boss.... Boss said. You will have to go back out tomorrow. OH AND ALSO YOU NEED A NEW THERMOSTAT. So, next morning I called and asked when Harold would be coming... The lady said " Oh Harold isn't coming back, we are sending a more qualified technician.. Harold had only been working Fire about a month. Because of all the flooding calls, we had to send him out." So, Shane came out later. Very polite and VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE!! No thermostat needed. Then went outside....FILLED THE COOLANT!!!!! Then explained that Harold really doesn't work in A/C units. When asked about the cleansing? He rolled his eyes, dropped his head a little a mumbled something. IF YOU ARE A SENIOR...HAVE FAMILY MEMBERS OR FRIENDS THAT ARE SENIORS! PLEASE DON'T LET THEM GET SCAMMED TOO! Do not use this company. They gave me a price to fix the central air. Then I called them to get a breakdown of the price and they added an extra two hundred dollars to the bill. Twice this company did not show for appointment. When I called the company I was told that appointment was cancelled by the insurance company. I called the insurance company as well as verified online that the appointment was not cancelled. The other time I was told that if i do not answer the call from them calling the day of the appointment within 10 minutes the appointment is cancelled. I had tried to call them back and left a voicemail but that was not good enough. I would not recommend this company. read more

Home Service Corp is refusing to refund the service call fee I paid to them when they confirmed that I paid the service fee to the warranty company that sent them. On October 8 a technician came to my home for a clogged drain and garbage disposal not working. This was under DTE Home protection plan. The technician was in and out in 10 minutes and said I needed a new garbage disposal. Didn't hear back from them and called DTE today only to find out that the technician reported there were pennies clogging my disposal and he replaced the kitchen faucet. The kitchen faucet was not replaced so that was a flat out lie. There are no kids in the home so I highly doubt there were pennies in the disposal. I would not recommend this company. read more

If I could give this company a zero, I would. Repair man came out to fix a dangerous control board on our furnace, and just "snapped it back in place" even though we had been told by a family friend that it was dangerous. He also said our thermostat needed a new battery and took it off the wall. When my husband came home, he put the same battery back in and the thermostat worked fine, but our upstairs heat stopped working. The only way to get it to work again (which wasn't an issue until he came out) was to put an old thermostat on the wall. When we called back to schedule a new appointment, we confirmed a time with the company and the next day, no one showed up because they said the order was never in their system (even though I called 24 hour earlier to confirm a time). So they basically lost it. I called back, frustrated, and they gave me a "direct number" to our insurance company, which was actually a number for a cable company. I called again (as you can imagine, even more frustrated) and they hung up on me. NEVER USE THEM. I half suspect that any good reviews given to this company are people from the company itself trying to offset the bad ones. DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!!!!!!! read more

"Plumber" arrived without any tools to assess the problems, and then reported to the insurance company that I have a roofing problem rather than a plumbing problem; therefore claim was denied. (Basement pipe leaks whenever toilet is flushed in upstairs bathroom). Additionally, his remedy to a running toilet was to use "my" hammer to beat on a toilet valve to stop the water supply. Now I have not only a running toilet, but leaks into the basement were mold is beginning to grow. I have second opinions from my warranty company which dispute their original diagnosis. I called Home Services Corporation 2 weeks ago to complain, and did not get a follow up call. I called them today, and they referred me back to my Warranty Company. I feel that as a senior citizen, I am being taken advantage of. DTE sent this company 1 week ago to investigate my water heater. The diagnosis took 6 minutes and they left saying a part was required. Part was promised by the next day. No phone calls, no return of my multiple voice messages left, and now it's been a week and no hot water for my family. If your home service company dispatches them, I would ask for someone else. read more

Do your research and get multiple competitive quotes, even if they are chosen by your warranty companies. Even with the warranty, I was going to be charge over $2000 out of pocket. I have used Home Service on three separate occasions. Each time they arrived promptly and completed the repair to my satisfaction. Today they handled an emergency repair of my boiler. I specifically requested they send Carlin. I was very impressed with his knowledge of boilers and older heating systems. He is without a doubt the best! I do not even want to give this company one star. They are HORRIBLE. My warranty company, which uses DTE billing, dispatched them to my home to repair my hot water tank. I was at work during their appointment time but my mother was there. The repairman arrived. My mom said he made a couple of noises come from the room the hot water tank was in. Said he cleaned the tank, re-lit the pilot and then left. Well guess what? The problem was not fixed. Called my warranty company and they dispatched them again the next day. I left work early and stayed at my home waiting for them. Around 7:50pm a car pulls up, hangs a sorry we missed you sticker on my door and left. He did not call before coming and did not ring the bell. I called their after hours number and the guy who called me back told me the tech said he called and rang the bell several times. 'That is not true'. He then told me I needed to call back in the morning to reschedule. I could not believe it. I called the home protection program which is billed thru DTE and they were of no help and said I had to accept service from this company. I canceled the home warranty service. Tried called Home Service Corp at 3139283833 the next morning several times and received no answer or call back. This company seems like they do not care. Do not do business with them. Their techs can be rude, lie and uncaring. Homeowners do not need frustration such as this when you are spending money and are experiencing a problem with a major home appliance.
