Based on the photos on this yelp page, I was excited to check out this thrift store. This location is right next to the veterans thrift store. When I went here today I was very disappointed. This store is definitely not "quality" as the name suggests. The store appeared disorganized, dingy, poorly lit, and had a slight smell to it. I hate to say it, but it overall looked as though store owners and/or workers do not have pride in the shop's appearance. Many of the housewares were displayed on shelves so that you could see things, which was nice, though it was a totally different story for clothing. Clothing was tossed into big plastic bins on wheels, and gave the appearance of these items being things that had been narrowly saved from being thrown in the trash. Unfortunately I will not be coming back to this store until if/when the place gets some major upgrades. read more

Okay serious question that I really want you to ponder. if you run a "thrift store" that's not really a thrift store, because you price everything off eBay why would I come shop at your store? Instead of just shopping from home and getting what I need instead of the rare chance that it's at your overpriced junk shop. read more

Absolutely love this store!! The owner and staff are always friendly and helpful. They have tons of quality used items as well as brand new items. Great plate sets with great discounts! I've gone to a few thrift stores and I'd say this place has one of the most home and kitchen stuff you can buy that actually doesn't look like junk. They have a number of plate sets, some reasonable, some on the higher end. Mind you, they are really pretty though and it's the complete set! I wouldn't say they're the cheapest, but they're the cleanest in terms of the items they are reselling. They also have cookware sets and a bunch of stuff that is still in boxes on the top shelf. As for clothes, they also have a wide selection. I doubt you'd find anything on trend here. It looks like a lot of them have had their share of use, but if you're into repurposing items, this will be the best place to hit up. At $2 per item (on the rack), you can't go wrong! I have been shopping at this store for years now! I love the selection of items, the cheerfulness of the staff and, most of all, the great prices on clothing ($2 - 5 for regular items)! I went there on a weekday afternoon to find that the store was closed... hmmm... peculiar... A week later, I went back... Imagine my surprise to find all of the clothes have been removed from the store! (Agh! But the clothing treasure hunting was so fun!!!) Let me tell you, though.... I walked around the store for a good 30 minutes and was so thrilled with their new layout and selection of collectibles, knick-knacks, and antique items - something I don't recall the store selling before! Best of all, the store was clean, organized and smelled nice! Although I'm going to miss their clothing (if they don't plan to bring it back), I'm still going to love going there! What a great little thrift store. When I first walked in it felt like I had walked into a pawn shop. I mean that in a positive way. Things were organized a laid out in a professional manner. Aisles full of clean clothing, stuffed animals, toys, cd's, movies, sports cards, etc. Great prices. Workers were there stocking shelves and greeting customers. We stopped in here after going to the nearby swap meet and then having a quick lunch at Lucy's Bakery. We'll definitely stop back in here the next time we are in the area. After leaving the thrift store next door and being completely disappointed I noticed that this place was new and open. I walked in and I got so excited. There was a barrage of everything and the place was clean and in a neat and orderly fashion. WOW is all I could say until I looked at the prices and had to say DOUBLE WOW. This place is amazing! The woman who was working in the store was so sweet and friendly as well. This place is also a dream for any knitters or crochet people. There are clothes that are more um "up to date" along with any type of cord you might need. I really enjoyed coming here. I am so glad that I found this diamond in the rough on accident. Update January 2020: They have totally reorganized this place!! It's now a legitimate vintage/antiques store rather than the thrift store it once was. Everything is organized by category and they got rid of most of the clothes (which I was disappointed about). No more treasure hunting, unfortunately. But they have some great finds, priced appropriately (although not as cheap as before) for real antiques. A little sad to see the beautiful chaos of the old store go, but excited to go back and see what else they have! read more

Many awesome electronics that are very reasonably priced along with other thrift store type of items. You won't find any junk here.. everything is pretty solid in regards to quality. Dark and dingy, I didn't get a good feeling walking into this store after checking out the thrift shop next door. The lights weren't on, one of the aisles was closed for repair and items were all over the floor and falling down off the shelves. In the back corner you can't walk around at all because there's so much stuff piled on top of each other. There's a weird funky smell and I started to sneeze being inside this shop. read more

This is a medium size independent thrift store and discount store in a run down area of Spring Valley, next to Veterans Thrift store and near Kmart. Pros: You can actually find some good deals here. I found some brand new tshirts for $2.50 each. They seem to have a good sense for knowing what customers want and what sells. Cons: The loud blonde lady was yelling at an employee, and then I heard her being rude and unfair to a customer. Also, the smell from the taco shop next door goes in to the clothes. read more

LOVE this place! When we moved in down the street 2 yrs ago, we have little to no furniture. Now we have a bedroom nightstands ($5 ea.), a solid oak dining room table with six matching chairs ($75), 2 wood dressers ($15 ea.), an entertainment center ($15), 2 side tables ($5 ea.), and a small storage table ($10). Check this place out every few days for more cool stuff! Nick knacks, clothes, furniture, records, comic books, tools etc! Staff is extremely friendly!!! Love them all. read more

All I can say is we LOVE this place!!!! I always call in the treasure shop! You literally do not know what goodies you will find here. They have everything from electronics, furniture, kitchen appliances, military gear, clothes, comic books, pokemon cards, etc etc! I've gotten a lot of vinyls from here and the older lady working there who kept calling me sweet names like babygirl gave me a discount for buying 10 of them. I've also picked up a guitar hero guitar for 10 dollars, an original NES controller for 4 dollars, and other treasures like old atari games. All in all, this place is definitely a diamond in this funky little plaza. Don't judge it by the way it looks on the outside (or in the inside) because it looks like a lot of clutter. This is thee sweetest family-owned thrift store! The lady who is almost always working register, Grandma, is the nicest person ever. One time when I had a rather large purchase, she decided to just throw in one of the last items she was scanning for free! Everything here is INSANELY cheap, they have this ongoing 50% off ALL clothes sale, excluding one specific colored tag - this would be their newest items, but the sale is constantly on rotation, so nothing ever stays very pricey. Though I must admit that of the numerous times I have been here, I usually only leave with 1 or 2 items, because they don't always have a great selection of clothes (but you have to consider it is a much smaller scale store than your typical Goodwill/Salvation Army/AmVets). But of those few items, they are always great finds at great prices. In my experience, the best things to come here for are select great finds in their clothing, DVDs (they always have a good selection, and I usually pick up 1 or 2), unique furniture and houseware (they ALWAYS have great quality and antique items that I don't think you would find at any other thrift store), tools, and most significantly, military gear. I'm not sure where it comes from, but they always have a TON of military jackets, pants, hats, bags/duffles lining the whole back wall of the shop. So if any of those things are what you're looking for, DEFINITELY head over to this sweet, little thrift store. OH! AND they have an old school popcorn maker at the front of the store, so they put out little, free bags for customers to munch on while they shop.. too cute. read more

I bought a few things totaling to more than $100.00. It was smelly when I walked in and I guess I got used to the smell after a while. The lady's working here are very nice and helpful when asked to bring a jacket down from up top. I bought this brown colored leather jacket that fit like it was made for me for $25.00. I got it home and hung it up in my hall closet and It totally wreaks of cigarettes. The people that work here smoke in the store causing the smoke scent to absorb into the items for sale, especially up high like my jacket. Hence why I saw and ashtray with cigarette butts while shopping. I'm stuck with something I cannot wear or store in my house due to the cigarette smell. Not cool!! read more

Probably the best privately-owned thrift store in San Diego County. The owners are friendly, knowledgeable and price their items incredibly fairly. There's always a good variety and the sales are great. Definitely include them when making the thrift store rounds! read more

I first met the Converse family members at Kobey's Swap Meet in San Diego before they opened the store. They always had the best merchandise and their prices were very fair and reasonable. The Thrift Shop owner, Mark Converse, is a class act as are the other members of his family including his mom and sister that work at the store. There are other family members that work there, too. They should all get blue ribbons for outstanding customer service. The store features some of the most interesting and diversified merchandise anywhere that mostly comes from storage locker auctions. The team works really hard to keep the products organized and categorized. in various sections. I never leave disappointed. read more

I HATE paying full price for anything, therefore, I am a "Professional ", thrift store/garage sale, addict. One of the BEST I have EVER found is at Converse Family Thrift Store. From the moment you walk in and hear the employees referring to their boss as "Grandma", you realize that they are TRULY a Family store. They have a HUGE variety of items, and it is a thrift store, as it should be. Goodwill has decided that they are now a "department" store, with department store prices to match!! NOT Converse, they are ALL friendly, helpful, happy that you are a customer and willing to negotiate. Lisa Converse is an AMAZING woman, with a heart of gold, like her Mama. This is a family run business. They are very helpful and polite. We had a great experience there. I liked the fact that I could get a couple of BDU tops for $5, when other places want $30 for them. They have a pretty good selection of stuff with about 50-60% of it being clothing, unlike most places that are like 90% clothing. read more

Dirty crowded little thrift store located next to DAV thrift. Like other reviewers have said, they probably have the fans running to mask the odor. I went in because there were racks of jeans out in front priced for only $2. Some of the clothes I looked at inside had masking tape on it with words written "animal poop" YUCK I should have taken some pictures but I was grossed out and left. Two positives - large parking lot and there are some unique vintage items behind glass but very expensive. read more

They are willing to dicker which I love and they make the shopping experience more of a challange and an adventure. I've been shopping here since they opened and have found some amazing antiques. I've purchased two wool throw rugs, a claw foot antique dining table with 6 matching chairs, a mid century pottery lamp for my office, antique pictures, vintage serving bowls, and a collection of pottery and gardening finds as well as vintage lawyers bookcase for my child's room. I was only too disappointed to have missed out on several items that sold before I saw them- such as a corner wardrobe that was truly unique had already sold for 125. these are absolutely a group of the kindest people you can meet and it shows when any of them greet you when you come in. the family matriarch tells everyone she meets to "just call me grandma, everybody does". the store has everything from shorts to sports and is very organized. if you are looking for something not often found in any thrift store, just ask grandma or anyone stocking and they may just have it (and for a fair price too!) they have some pretty nice big screens in there too. i especially love their shoes and boots. bcbg's for less than $20? used, but not worn at all. some of them even have the tags still. shoes never go on sale, but with those prices who cares! they do have great sales and discounts on their items though, so just ask. read more

My name is Frankie and this is by far my most favorite thrift store in all San Diego, the quality of clothes and prices and selection of merchandise from top clean quality jeans to military clothing at such a low price makes Amvets stores tremble with fear. I adore this store and when I read the comment from Helen there is no way in the world she is truthful in any aspect and in fact it is always clean and refreshing and I challenge anyone to go visit and see for yourself the quality of owner and staff that instantly make you feel at home. I visit all the thrift stores in San Diego and hands down this is my most favorite place to shop in quality of clothing and price, it is one of the few places in San Diego that offer a guarantee to return or exchange an item if you are not satisfied, who does this? They do because they are a highly respected family run business, that know their stuff is top notch and want to make you happy so that you come back over and over. They have high quality speakers, receivers, televisions, movies, music, furniture, cooking, fishing, electrical cords, tons of tools, I can spend hours in there and find treasures through out the store. Let me give you truth and an example, jeans 2 dollars at Converse Family Quality Thrift and 5- 10 Amvets, military clothing 5 dollars per pants or jacket at Converse Family Quality Thrift and 12-15 per pants or jacket at Amvets store.
