I have three children in this daycare and I couldn't be happier! The owner is the sweetest women I have ever met and treat every child like her own so does her amazing staff! My oldest daughter has been there for 7 years now started when she was 6 months old and I only felt comfortable leaving her with ms Meena! She has an amazing play area, exciting activities and makes the best home made food for the kids! My daughters beg to go to daycare every day because of how fun it is! This is a wonderful daycare, and I can't speak highly enough about the owner and the staff. The daycare is very clean, they provide wonderful indoor and outdoor play spaces for the children, and most importantly the children are loved, nurtured, and do many fun activities throughout the day. Horte (the owner) also prepares healthy breakfast and snacks for the children, made from fresh ingredients. My son has been there since he was six months old and has thrived under their love and care. Horte and her staff have many years of experience caring for children, and I couldn't ask for a better daycare for my son. On top of those things, they also teach the children everything from songs to shapes, do fun art projects that they can take home, and the children are closely bonded to each other since it is not a huge daycare center. read more

This place is a gem! My daughter has been coming here since she was 10 months old and I am so grateful for it. I had taken her to another daycare and she got sick so much there but once we transferred her here she hardly gets sick. This place is super clean. Horte, Daisy and their helpers really take care of the kids like their own. This place really is like your second home. I never feel like oh is my daughter alright? Are they taking good care of her? I never once doubted their abilities. My daughter literally rushes in to be with Horte during the morning drop offs. I am not one who typically writes Yelp reviews and indeed I am writing this review because someone brought Ms Caroline's review to my attention. The review by Ms Caroline is so over the top, grossly unfair and downright false that I feel compelled to write this to provide a different view-point. Her's reads more like a vendetta to drive Horte and Daisy out of making a dignified living while providing a great home based day care in the Sunnyvale/Mountain View area. It is unfortunate that Horte and Daisy are not well versed in the art of using Social Media and exploiting marketing forums such as Yelp or Facebook otherwise this page would read quite different. Fortunately what Horte and Daisy are very good at is providing the best child-care that I have known for infants and toddlers. We chose Home Sweet Second Home because our neighbors recommended it, since they sent their two wonderful daughters there. Our daughter, who started there when she was 8 months old, took to Horte and Daisy like family. To her it remains her "Abuelita's house". They love our daughter like their own.. One Friday we did not sent our little one in to day care cause she was nursing a cold/flu, after much calling and assuring that she was fine from our side to Daisy, On Saturday morning Daisy was at our doorstep with some chicken soup - because "she likes Abuelita's chicken soup". Almost all the infants who were there when our daughter started there continue to go there, including a family that moved to San Carlos from Mountain View (they still drive all the way down to Sunnyvale to benefit from the love and caring that is offered by Home Sweet Second Home). If you are a parent with highly stressful job looking for peace of mind that your child is well cared for and growing up and learning and being a child in every which way possible, start hoping that they have a spot open.. If you want your child to enjoy a vibrant, lively home based day-care with children from across different cultures - Indian, Asian, Caucasian, Hispanic, start hoping that they have a spot open for you. If you want to be surprised everyday and enjoy the fact that your child is sharing and learning to play with other kids and building bonds, start hoping that they have a spot open for your child. No not everything is rosy. Like Ms Caroline I too have a couple of complaints against Home Sweet Second Home. And here is my biggest complaint - Whenever we get our daughter ready on a Saturday or Sunday to visit friends or relatives, her demand is to go to "Abuelita's house". If we as much as drive past the corner of Central and Mary in Sunnyvale - her question is "Are we going to Abuelita's house?". She will rattle off the names of all the care-givers and all the children she has grown up with the last 16 months. My daughter has been going to Home Sweet Second Home since she was 6 months old. We are the couple that drives their (now) 2 yo toddler all the way from San Carlos because we are simply unable to replace the care Horte and Daisy and her 2 helpers give. Horte, daisy and their other helpers are the sweetest, nicest people who pamper your child like their own. My daughter is a fussy sleeper who needed to be rocked and sang to- and they met her every need here! They even once made food especially for her since she didn't like what was on the menu that day.They give her the care that only family can give your child. They are very nice to the parents, but are not truthful, babies are not well cared for despite what the daycare employees say. My baby's behavior changed after starting at this place (not for the best), and lost weight though the daycare reported normal feedings. My baby was always very tired at pick up, way more than on weekends, though the daycare reported sufficient sleep. I looked at the "5 Reviews that are Not Recommended" in Yelp (scroll below), and 2 are disturbing and are consistent with my experience. I tried the trick from one of the reviews where I put a pen mark in a crease of my baby's diaper, then I showed up past noon for a visit and the mark was still there (they had not changed the diaper), but the daily report they gave me when I came back for pick up late afternoon said that they had changed the diaper at 10... not true. I came another day during nap time but did not knock at tte door. The window was opened and I could hear my baby cry. I waited 15 minutes and my baby was still crying. I wanted to go in and care for my baby but had to go back to work. When I came back for pick up, the daily report they gave me mentioned the start and end time of my baby's nap, I knew that my baby had cried for at least 15 minutes during the time period their report said my baby was napping, so the report was not true again. The feedings they reported were not true either because my baby would not have lost weight with those feedings (I showed the daily reports to my baby's pediatrician who said that these feedings were sufficient to increase weight, not lose it). Every day they kept telling me of how great my baby was doing and all the great things my baby had done that day, but no word about all the crying during nap time nor any feeding issue. I can understand that people who base their opinion mostly on what the daycare employees tell them would say it's a good daycare because they cater to parents a lot. They should put more efforts caring for babies and being honest with parents. I need to be able to fully trust the people who care for my baby, so I found a better child care option and my baby is doing much better. My review is for babies, if kids are old enough to talk and tell their parents about their day, it could be a different experience, I don't know. Parents can choose to try and see for themselves. Whichever daycare parents choose, they should always make unexpected visits during day time, do some checks regularly, be in tune with their child's behavior, and not dismiss any red flag just because the daycare staff is nice to parents or their kids have friends at the daycare. Also check for small red dots on the skin which may be needle marks (this is a general comment not specific to this place) especially in the skin folds on the Achilles and other skin creases often not looked at. read more

I would be wary of this daycare due to their disorganization and immoral behavior. I was aware of the many citations they had received on the CA social services website, but apart from the one bad incident, the rest seemed to be pretty harmless and due to lack of organized paperwork. I went against my better judgement, and since the place and the main carer I met seemed great, went ahead and reserved a confirmed spot for my son. About a month later I get a call from them saying the spot will be open earlier than they originally thought, and that they will be giving up the spot I had reserved and paid for to someone else! I wanted her to at least admit that this was not right and that parents depend on them holding their end of the deal, but instead I was told that she had mentioned this could happen when she said "we don't usually confirm a spot so far in advance, but we can go ahead this time". I don't see how the that sentence translates to "we may give this spot away". The high number of citations along with the continued lack of organization and disregard for parents makes me give them a one star rating. It seems like they spot fix any issues they run into (or those that are noticed by parents), but overall maintain a careless attitude. ps: I did get an apology (after arguing on this topic for a while) and all my money back, but that doesn't change the rating I think they deserve. read more

Enrolling my son to "Home Sweet Second Home" daycare is the best thing that happened to my son. Just like any first time mother who is sending her kid to a daycare for the first time, even I was stressed and worried. I did couple of researches with other moms and google to find a daycare that was safe for him and where he would like go and spent the day. I was referred to HSSH for my son by another lady who too runs a daycare. I remember the first day when we made a visit to HSSH Zaira and Horte had made me feel comfortable by providing the details and even allowed my son (2yrs old) to explore the place by himself. Then when my son started to go it was not difficult as it took around 1 month to get adjusted but after this struggle period he just likes to go everyday. There were times when he was on vacation I heard him call Daisy (his favorite) while playing some pretend plays. I just love the way Horte, Daisy, Zaira and Marie takes care of my son. He too is learning all new things from there and feels excited when he shares it with me. There are days when I find it difficult to bring him back home from daycare as he still wants to stay and play there. I strongly recommend this daycare who are looking for a home based daycare. read more

This place is low quality education. They are very nice to parents but if you go visit during the day without letting them know in advance, you will see what this place is really like: very low class. The staff leaves to run errands or whatever else, they neglect babies, they shove them in the cribs and ignore them. I put a pen mark on my kid's diaper in the morning, and when I showed up around 1 pm and looked at the diaper, the pen mark was there, so they had not changed the diaper. When I picked up my kid in the evening, the report they gave me said that they had changed the diaper at 10 a.m. It was a lie. They just fill up those papers with information that will please parents, it has nothing to do with what really happened during the day. Some kids over 2 years old may like this place if they have had no other day care experience because they like to play with other kids their age. The meals are filled with rice (cheap filler) and few low end vegetables which most kids don't eat. I moved my kid to a reputable daycare center and I've seen a lot of improvement in learning colors, numbers, letters, etc. and they potty trained my kid, which Home Sweet Second Home failed at. Don't waste your kids' time at this place, it is low quality. The only thing they do well is be nice to the parents. read more

What you want in a daycare is a feeling of trust, and we had that from Day 1 at Home Sweet Second Home. Our daughter started at 14 months old, and it has been fun watching her grow and change over the past year or so under the supervision of the HSSH caretakers. She gets exposed to a variety of activities, including play-doh, painting, drawing, gardening, and building with blocks. They read stories and sing nursery rhymes (in English and in Spanish), and the other day she came home talking about Yoga (which we don't normally do at home). The only time she cried that she didn't want to go to HSSH was after a long weekend vacation during which she was spoiled by her extended family. Since crying during drop-off was rare, the caretaker sent us a short video clip of our daughter happily eating breakfast five minutes later, and our minds were at ease. This day care came to us through a recommendation and we cannot be happier. We sent our daughter here when she was just a little over a year old and she is almost 2 now. She was a fussy sleeper before but Ms.Horte went above and beyond to make it comfortable for her. In fact her sleeping habits have improved in general. It's a nice and clean facility with great care givers like Daisy, Maria and Zaira. Ms. Horte is probably one of the best care givers/human beings that we could let our little one be cared for. Very caring and nurturing home daycare. I am so grateful to have my infant enrolled here. Daisy and Horte are very nice ppl. They follow the rules of the licensing thoroughly. They attend to the needs of my child and any special instructions I provide. I have seen the two year old kids do art, math, alphabets and spanish words in the mornings. They help with potty training too. Highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a nurturing place for the first 3-4 years. read more
