I'm used to working with a property Tax reduction service when I lived in Galveston for 40 years. I moved to the Kerrville area almost 3 years ago and signed up with Home tax shield. I can say I received much better results with the tax service in Galveston and consider Home tax Shield results embarrassedly sub-standard. I reached my breaking point when one of my land appraisals increased 6 times it's value last year without any fight from Home tax shield. I was already past the deadline before I could fight this ridiculous valuation myself. Please, don't waste your time with this company. Collecting cash for doing nothing is a hell of a business model. Taking advantage of the housing market downturn in Austin and then claiming that they were responsible for the measly 20k reduction is theft. Especially when every comp in my neighborhood is 50k cheaper. Zillow/ Redfin also have my property valued at 45-50k less than what they "protested" for. They even added a documents tab so YOU could upload documents to help THEM do the job YOU are paying them to do. Wild. I suggested protesting it yourself. They will never communicate with you. Their service is way below standards. Do not believe those fake reviews they have on their site. HCAD sent multiple forms to them regarding to one of properties that i need to get signed and notarized. They never communicated with me. As a result no tax reduction. I am very suspicious of the high yelp ratings on this company. Home Tax Shield took my $ but delivered nothing. How could all those people who left rave reviews have saved so much money when I received NO tax relief on ANY of the three houses. I am in Williamson County, and I got slammed this year with a 35% appraisal increase on all my properties and they are NOT supported by comps! I am convinced that Home Tax Shield did not file a protest for my unfair appraisals or did not pursue it properly. My property tax burden this year was astronomical and the people that I trusted, AND PAID, to help me do not appear to have practiced due diligence. The owner says that they constantly communicate with their customers, but I can testify that they did NOT communicate with me except to tell me that my appraisals were all fair and accurate. I am inclined to agree with the three YELP reviewers that this company is very likely a scam. By the way, it is much harder to cancel their service than to sign up for it! These guys didn't cost me much on my tax protest, but they didn't deliver much either! There was no change in my tax assessment! Fair or unfair? I just don't know. You get very little detail on what they actually did and why nothing changed. I guess you get what you pay for! And, unlike the other HomeTaxShield review response to another unhappy Yelp post, I'm not a bot! I communicated with their Customer team after the disappointing result and I learned they didn't even read the additional backup information I provided them for the protest! They said they had an issue between their Customer Service Platform and their Tax Agent Platform. I wonder if this is the "property tax platform that brings technology and experience to the valuation and protest process", as their Website claims? I assume they submitted the protest, but again, I didn't see any benefit or much info on why no change, just a text link leading me to information that I saved nothing. I will likely try another company next year and save my $30 annual fee, hopefully with better results. read more
