I was here for a Yelp event at Postino, but I showed up early enough that I had time to wander, and…read morehonestly I'm glad I did because this whole area is far more impressive than I realized. Ballantyne has been developing at a pace I clearly haven't kept up with, and suddenly there's this whole little district with a mix of restaurants, an outdoor amphitheater, a big open grass lawn where people can sprawl out or toss a ball, a playground tucked off to the side, and that general sense of activity that makes a place feel like it's actually being used and enjoyed rather than just built for show. Since I still had time before the Postino event kicked off, I walked down to Olde Mecklenburg for a beer. It was a bit too cool to sit outside in their beer garden, which is usually the move, so I settled inside and it was exactly the kind of comfortable, familiar brewery vibe that makes you want to linger for a second round even when you know you shouldn't. Parking is three hours free, which is generous for a place this busy, but you do have to register your car. If you stay longer they'll charge you, and if you don't register at all they'll be less than thrilled, so it's worth taking the extra minute to do it right. The whole setup makes it easy to spend an afternoon here without feeling rushed, which is probably why I ended up enjoying the pre‑event time just as much as the event itself. The Bowl is a nice idea that is destined for mediocrity. The idea, create a small community-like…read moredining experience like this found in the side streets and alleys of mature urban areas. Bring that experience to the newish suburban area of Ballantyne so folks and be outdoors and socializing. The problem is they fill it with mostly trendy sounding chains. Nothing original. The main benefit is Ballantyne residents don't have to drive to South End to satisfy a Flower Child craving (if that's a thing?). My assumption is that rents in The Bowl are astronomical so the aspiring small business cafes, coffee shops and bars will never have a chance.

This hotel is very nice when you walk in. It looks very fancy, bar, and 8 floors…read more Here are my issues tho. 1. The gym, the gym has no cameras inside it which doesn't seem very safe. Secondly where water is supposed to pour in the gym for your drink, it was so dirty. Also in the gym: There are no cleaning supplies to clean after yourself, meaning potentially it goes hours without cleaning and that can be a big sanitation issue. 2. The beds are hard, and I wasn't sure that the shower was properly cleaned. There are two shower heads, one you can remove and adjust wherever you want. I aimed it to a corner of the shower to check and out came dirt, dust, I'm not sure what else. Nothing crazy but still. Also, why and how is the toilet crooked? It's so weird to sit in. The shower settings are kinda complicated to figure out and the water pressure could be better. Now the bathroom door: NO. It isn't a real door, it's like a glass slide door thing that came off the wheels TWICE, and there's no ventilation in the bathroom: meaning foggy, stinky, whatever just lingers for awhile. 3. No pool, roof top lounge, but no pool. 4. Room is pretty meh ‍ Most likely would not book again, but to each their own. If you don't care about those things then book to your hearts desire The lobby is nice, the hotel looks insane, I wished the rooms and gym matched that.

The prices are on the high end, but this is a hotel with high end standards. Walking in the late afternoon/early evening, I was promptly greeted by a lovely young lady with strawberry blond hair. I wish I could remember her name. Anyway, she got me a room at the lowest price. I was on the side facing I-77, but I could hear NO highway noise at all. One Queen bed, flat screen TV mounted on the wall. A refrigerator and microwave hidden away in a cabinet. I had a bad headache settling in behind my eyes from spending all day in the sun. I went back to the front desk as I noticed they had sundry items for sale. The strawberry blond haired lady was with her niece, but stopped everything to give me some of her own ibuprofen so I would not have to purchase it, and I got some Gatorade. That was SO nice of her, she did not have to do that at all. There was a small café area in the lobby, but I did not get anything from there. I am so grateful for this lovely hotel. I will be back again if I am in the area again. It is very close to the highway and easy to get in and out. There is an Outback Steakhouse within walking distance as well. Several gas stations are close by to get gas and go.

For starters there aren't many hotel options that are above a 3-star in the area. That being said,…read morethis may be one of the worst. The rooms are not well lit, wallpaper peeling off the walls, and poor indoor pool that reeks of chlorine. Don't let the hotel pictures deceive you! Parking is free so that's a plus. Would not stay there again.
