Surprisingly great overnight stay. The hotel lobby was going through remodeling. The room was huge -- 2 queen bed suite with a pullout sofa bed. Pretty spacious for 4 adults and a German shepherd. The hotel was pet friendly. Everything we needed was there. Including a full mini kitchen we didn't use. The front desk staff was scarce, but accessible if needed. The Home2 Suites By Hilton - Roanoke, VA was our halfway mark as we drove home to Tennessee. The nightly rate was more than affordable. Especially as a Hilton rewards member. If we ever drive back, I'd stay here. read more

We have stayed at Home2 Suites many times over the years and have generally had great experiences. In fact, whenever we travel to visit family in Tennessee, the Roanoke location has become our regular stop and one of the places we look forward to staying. Unfortunately, this visit was extremely disappointing. Shortly before our stay, the general manager, Anthony, called to inform us that the hotel had overbooked rooms and could not honor our reservation. While I understand that mistakes can happen, what was most frustrating was the lack of flexibility or effort to make the situation right. We were forced to stay at a different hotel, and it ended up costing us more than the reservation we had already booked and paid for. This was part of our family vacation, and instead of a smooth trip, we were left scrambling to make alternate arrangements and paying extra because of an error that was completely outside of our control. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt other travelers should know about it. Loyal customers who book in good faith should not be displaced because of overbooking, and they certainly should not end up paying more as a result. I hope management takes a serious look at how situations like this are handled in the future. We've enjoyed staying at Home2 Suites in the past, but this experience has made us reconsider where we'll stay on future trips. read more

Pros: pet friendly, soft beds, great shower pressure, full fridge, wonderful front desk guy the night I was checking in Cons: noisy - you can hear your neighbors 100% on both sides, and those walking on the floor above you (unless there was an elephant in that room), not a suite - pulling a glorified shower curtain to separate a space doesn't count (especially when the tv covers both spaces) Honestly, it was the noise that broke me. Hearing our neighbors TV and them talking all night, we even called the front desk to ask them to call the room and it didn't change anything. We arrived at the hotel pretty late, well..around 9pm cause our gps was acting up and uhh@$*×%...anyways, checkin was super quick. We had called in advance for an adjoining handicap room. They didn't have any, but knew we were on our way. When I say super quick I mean she handed me the key cards, told us where the elevator was located and flipped that OPEN sign to CLOSED. In mannerism, not literally. We head up and get my MIL situated in her room. It was a really nice handicap room with plenty of space for her to get around with her walker. Our room is just as nice, but obviously more confined. We later realize the checkin went so fast that we didn't get our usual "Thanks for being a member..etc" and our welcome bags. No mention of the new breakfast setup or schedule. No added info at all. Ok, I get it! Minimal contact with folks is what we're doing right now. I was wearing a mask, and the way I walked up grabbed the keys and got my 6 feet back may have been a little bit much. The bleach and lysol in my hands may have been overkill. I get it! J/k! The lady was nice. My husband ran back downstairs for the bags. Nbd. The bed was not as comfortable as I remembered from a couple years back, but it wasn't that bad. The shower floor was dirty. It was as if someone walked in there with shoes on and pressed the soap dispenser until there was nothing left. Yeah, it was empty. Nothing my travelling disinfecting pack won't take care of, but still. I shouldn't have to wait for the Hilton CleanStay with Lysol Protection to go into effect for a clean shower. ...and the towels were musty. Fast forward to a couple hours later when we're dozing off to sleep and realize all the big kids we passed heading to the elevator apparently were staying on our floor. These jokers were running up and down that hallway like they were practicing for a relay until about 4 in the morning! They weren't super loud, but they were heavy footed as hell! If I hadn't been so out of it everytime they woke me up I would've called downstairs for intervention. Anyways, we called down the next morning to ask about breakfast, and found out they don't do breakfast bags or anything on the weekend. Nada! That would've been nice to know up front. Especially if the free breakfast is still being advertised for the hotel. This was not a bad stay, but the lack of info, lack of food, espresso kids and dirty shower does affect the overall experience and rating. read more

It's maybe not the smartest idea to mop the lobby at checkout and then yell at your customers when they're trying to leave. If you can't differentiate between right and left to let us know where not to walk then don't mop RIGHT AT CHECKOUT. Also this hotel is horribly renovated compared to others. Brand new suite hotel near airport. Rooms are huge; mine was over 400 sq ft. 50 inch TV in room. Kitchenette fully stocked with service for 6. No daily maid service, only after 5th night, and only on weekend ( it is a suite hotel after all). Across the street from mall, plus many chain restaurants nearby. Mexican place shares parking lot with hotel ( I'll try that place tomorrow night). Included breakfast features make your own waffle station, OJ, flavored waters, pretty good coffee. No appear cups here--all on real plates with glasses and ceramic mugs. They do have some to go coffe cups for those on the run. Overall this is a pretty nice place. Distinctly budget-conscious, but pleasant. It's always nice to stay in a brand new hotel anyway. read more

It was a great stay in this hotel. We only stayed for one night as we were on our way to Great Smoky Mountain, but we would definitely love to go back to this hotel in the future. When we first opened our door, we all went "woooo"! The room was huge compared to the other hotels that we had stayed during our trip. Plenty of space for the kids to run around in the room. The room was nicely prepared and there was no visible dirt in the bathroom and kitchen. The carpet seemed clean as we did not feel sticky when walking barefooted. The front desk staff was very friendly. The complimentary breakfast was reasonable in terms of food choices. This hotel was very underwhelming. When we first arrived at our suite there was a thick smell of marijuana in the hall and it last the entire time we stayed. We had 4 people in our party and there was only 2 towels in the room and when we requested more we were told they were out of towels. Our room phone wasn't working and was missing a directory and buttons. There was a language barrier with the housekeepers and staff at breakfast. The buffet line was messy with spilled food and condiments and when we asked a staff member if someone can clean it they didn't understand so another quest took it upon themselves to clean it. They ran out of sugar, cups and it took over 30 min waiting in line to make a waffle. The front desk associate with red hair was very unpleasant. I've never had thisbttpe of experience at any other Hilton property in the past. Very disappointed. read more

This hotel was booked a month in a half in advance on hotels.com. When I got there I was advised that my reservation was changed on July 9th from two Queens to a King room by hotels.com. Hotels.com of course did not make the change. When I entered my room number 215 with my children approximately 10 minutes later an employee of home2suites walked in using a key letting herself in and then walked right back out. I ran out the room to see who it was and to ask how she got in. She stated she came in to inspect the room and was unaware the room was booked. This lady invaded our privacy. ​The pool had to much chlorine and my kids eyes were burning. The hot tub was out of order. On the hotel site it mentions the hot tub is available. This is our 3rd time staying at this hotel. The rooms are ok and much like other Home2 Suites. It's a basic room with no frills. It does have a small kitchen in it which is nice. On this visit we arrived at 3pm and our room was not ready :( Check in is a 3pm. It's now 4:23 and our room still isn't ready. We drove from Texas so needless to say we are tired and want our room. The front desk is very nice and explained that some in Housekeeping did not show up for work today and that's why the room isn't ready. I worked Front Desk at a hotel when I was much younger and we used to go HELP clean the rooms when housekeeping was short handed. Anyway, we are disappointed that our room isn't ready. read more

The Home 2 Suites is a niche concept introduced by Hilton in, I believe, 2009. The concept is a "hip, extended stay motel at a value price." Based on previous stays at this brand, I didn't think it was going to work, but I see that Hilton is now up to more than 225 Home 2 Suites nationwide, all franchised, so I guess it is fairly successful. Based on the design, using bright primary colors, rooms that let you configure the desk and some other features as you like and ideas like a combination workout room and laundry I assume that this brand is supposed to appeal to millennials. Maybe so, but on this stay in Roanoke most guests seemed to be attracted by the low rate ($103 for AAA, plus tax) rather than the hip factor. Pros: * Attractive rate * New property -- open only about 9 months. * Good location off I-281 bypass, with lots of restaurants and shopping nearby and easy access to downtown Roanoke. * Friendly staff. * Galley-style kitchenette with full-sized fridge, sink, microwave and dishwasher (glasses, plates and tableware provided) but you have to ask for a portable cooktop. * Recycling bins let you separate glass, cans and trash. * DirecTV service had Hallmark Movies & Mysteries channel -- quite rare at Hilton properties! Cons: * I really don't like the breakfasts here -- the main dishes are prepackaged combos that you microwave. I had the eggs, sausage and peppers package covered in plastic wrap, and it was awful. Also, two people within 5 minutes "exploded" their hardboiled eggs in the microwave, creating quite a mess! * The TV, while new, was a cheap model with 720 resolution, not 1080. Also, the remote had no sleep timer that I could find. * It's a bit of a stretch to call these rooms suites -- rooms are just slightly longer than average, fairly narrow, with the bed divided from the sitting area and kitchenette by a hospital-style curtain. * Limited housekeeping service. A "light" cleaning is provided weekdays -- think you have to request it on weekends. read more

We stayed here one night and it was nice. Unfortunately we were unable to use the pool due to COVID-19.... which was highly disappointing for my kids. Although they would normally offer a breakfast (which looked quite good), but due to COVID-19 they had breakfast in to go bags. One of the worst hotels stays I have ever had with my family. Definitely the loudest. The walls are paper thin, We were on the third floor, but heard kids crying down the hall, possibly a dumpster (?) at 11pm.....not sure....very loud banging outside and neither my 3 young children, nor my husband and I could sleep. We heard every footstep in the hallway. Terrible night sleep after traveling, with more to do in the morning. I tried to download a sound machine on my phone, but the WiFi did not work. The breakfast buffet was nasty, and my kids love breakfast food. I have a food allergy and could not eat anything due to shared serving spoons/contamination. Not a problem, I am used to that and just wanted coffee. Of course it was out and took 20 minutes to replace the pot. The staff ignored my husband at check in, so much so, he thought the receptionist was a hotel guest, until her boss came and yelled at her to help the customer. She irritably obliged. Also, the price. I was expecting a nice stay for the rate. Not worth it. Keep driving and stay somewhere else. read more

I was looking for hotels that were pet-friendly and not just for dogs but cats too. The rooms are really huge, clean, modern-looking and more than what I was expecting. This is one of the nicest and most comfortable hotels I have stayed at. Some have complained about the breakfast but I was happy since I usually wake up past 9 and most hotels close it off by then. This hotel was awesome and serves til 10! Love the waffle station, bagels, grab n go and the was from Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf--delicious! Staff was courteous and the guests were mostly others either evacuees or just visiting. Parking wasn't an issue for us at all. Our cats liked the many cubby holes and counters in the room to climb on. The TV was a good size with many channels, wifi was also decent even at the complimentary level. The bed was a king size felt so comfy and clean. Temperature control in the room was also good and the fridge was the biggest fridge we have had in a hotel so we were content. The price we paid was affordable and we got more than we expected. *Note: I evacuated for Hurricane Irma when they said it was going to hit Charleston, SC. I saw this on Hotels.com and booked it for 5 nights. I was scared the hotel was going to be pissy with pets regardless but I am thrilled that they were more than welcoming and even gave me a first floor room to help ease the pain when traveling with a pet. * Overall, we had a great time despite the reason we were there and will stay here again when we visit for FUN because we have a hiking trail and a craft beer place we want to try. read more

Our room was very comfortable! Loved the pressure of the shower head, the bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and overall the hotel was quiet. The bath products are Neutrogena, which was disappointing since they test products on animals, so I hope the hotel would consider changing their contract to a different brand. We didn't expect the little kitchen since we had never stayed in one of these before, so that was a nice surprise. The separate sofa area made the room feel spacious. The price was about what we'd pay for a regular hotel, and we were so happy overall with this one we will definitely look for more of these again in our future travels. I've worked in hotels, and my fiancé and I loved our stay here. We found this hotel driving straight through VA, got too tired, and a lot of the basic hotels around were around 140-150 (even for la quinta of comfort inn), but we got our room for $110. #1 - AFFORDABLE. My personal opinion: great hotel. - Continental breakfast, free and delish. They have pre-made egg meals that you heat up in the microwave, hard-boiled eggs, waffle maker, cereal, oatmeal with all the fixings, yogurt, pastries, etc. They really have one of the best continental breakfasts of hotels that offer them in this price range. - Comfy rooms: We stayed in a double queen which was plenty for my fiancé and I, and our pup. Enough that I was actually able to throw the ball around a little for him. Comfortable beds. - Clean: Showers were clean, I swear I had one of the best showers of my life. The water pressure was great, got hot, and the neutrogena soap they provide smelled so good. - Friendly staff: when I checked in the woman at the front, Sarah, was so sweet. My opinion of the reviewers: When you're staying at an affordable hotel, don't expect an Andaz, with room service and someone to prepare your eggs just the way you like them - or you can go to another hotel charging minimally $200+ a night when Home2 is charging 110. Someone put a picture of a singular hair in the bed and gave them 2 stars - come on. The maid probably left that straightening your bed. People are WAY too critical for wanting the cheapest price. Had a great week long stay, very clean and very hospitable staff. Was with large group of girls there softball tournament. ( Our team The Florida Storm National) They had a full house and took care of all our needs. I stayed at this Home2 Suites, and was very impressed with my stay. I stay at different Hilton's weekly. This was my first time at a Home2 Suites, but I'll be staying here again. Place is great for families. The hotel is located next door to Rodeo Grande Mexican restaurant (See review), and across the street from a mall and lots of stores and restaurants. The hotel is five stories and is decorated with bright pastel colors, kind of like a Caribbean beach theme. The property is clean and well maintained. The is no parking or resort fees. Parking is located along either side of the hotel. The staff were all friendly, professional and helpful. There is a small mini-mart, small indoor pool and jacuzzi, a small 24/7 gym, 24/7 laundry room (.50 cent to wash, .50 to dry, soap is $2). The is an ATM, coffee/tea bar, and 2 computer work station. The only disappointing portion of my stay was the breakfast. They egg dishes were all per-packaged which really sucks in my opinion. They had; oatmeal with toppings, biscuits and gravy, waffle bar, basic breads, milk and juices, yogurt, fruit, packaged egg sandwiches and egg dishes that you microwave. The room was medium+ in size, clean and well maintained, and continued with the beach theme decor. There is a kitchenette with full size frig, micro, dishwasher, cups, dishes, and flatware. Coffee maker. There is a sofa sleeper, large desk and chair, large flat HD TV with Dish and free HBO. Bed and Pillows were very comfortable. Lots of drawer space. Iron/board and a room safe. Free Hilton Honors WIFI had a good signal. The bathroom as all in one, with a shower only. Medium size, very clean. Large Counter top and a blow dryer. It was a great stay , and Danielle was so amazing and helpful ! The Male night manager ( didn't catch his name) however, was a complete jerk. There was a broke down elevator that wouldn't go to the 1st floor/ lobby , and being handicap , that's pretty important to me . When he was told about the situation, his response was - "what do you want me to do about it" , "do you want the number to call someone" all while throwing his hands up in a threatening manner. He had complete disregard for the situation. I am an amputee, and not having an elevator that reaches the bottom floor is an extremely important and he acted like he could care less!! He really needs to learn customer service and manners. He really may have ruined me staying at this property again. read more

We got into our room at 11 pm, and as we pulled down the sheets to climb into bed, we were greeted by crumbs and hair- a lot of hair. I'll insert a photo but it might not do it justice. So we called down and got a new room. As we got to our new room, the youngest child leaned against the door and it opened- IT OPENED. So you didn't even need a key card to get in. We were very tired and didn't feel like switching rooms again, so we dead bolted the door and hoped we wouldn't get any unwanted visitors. The next morning we were given our room for free because of the fit we threw. For being a Hilton property, you could so we were thoroughly disgusted. read more

Best hotel stay in a long time. 5 of us plus our dog. Room was nice and big, 2 queens, pull out couch, kitchenette. Nice and clean. Comfy beds ( well probably not the pull out, but kids didn't complain. ) the breakfast was fantastic! Highly recommend the biscuits and gravy. The breakfast layout is terrible, crowded getting food, but worth it. Only really negative was that the pool was cloudy, but after driving for 8 hours with another 8 to go, I pretended I didn't notice and had an awesome time with my kids. I was hoping that this time the hotel clerk would have asked how my stay was. They usually do. But this time they didn't so I didn't offer. The hotel itself is quite new and very nice. Their pool and "Spin Cycle" fitness center are very nice with 1 elliptical, 2 treadmills, a cycle and free weights. The machines don't have built in TV, but they do have TV's on the front & back wall. Breakfast features prepared sandwiches, omelettes, scrambles which go in their microwaves. They also have fruit, cereals, breads and oatmeal. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Regarding the room, it's always nice to have a walk in shower. The bed was very comfortable. They have a nice working desk as well as high speed internet which is actually high speed. Here's the bad part which also will be my tip-----DO NOT TAKE A GROUND FLOOR ROOM!!. The acoustics are such that I could almost hear the front desk attendant breathing. It was 3:30 a.m. when a group of ladies decided to chat it up. I could hear everything as if they were in my room. Very loud and I had the worst night sleep which was not what I came there for. Another group came around 5 a.m. I guess they don't realize that people actually come to sleep. There should be quiet time there. Some guests and staff are not very respectful of the other guests. The first floor rooms should be half the regular $140 price. read more

This hotel has the potential to be great. It's brand new, it's eco-friendly, it's modern, it's clean, it's a convenient location to the mall. But it has to come up to speed with Hilton standards. I called the night before to make sure that a pet had been added in the notes of my reservation, and to request a ground floor room. Upon arrival around check-in time, the clerk finds no mention of it. There seemed to be a lack of concern with this, and I was placed in a 3rd floor king. She did give me a room close to the stairwell. Thanks...I think. But ok...it's just one night...we'll manage. They are sold out for the night, filled to capacity, which means the elevators are slow. But to add insult to injury, one elevator is broken at varying times during our stay. We were only here for 24 hours, so we take the stairs most of the time. The room is huge. Well, for just 2 adults and a dog. I can't imagine 4 people in it, but I'm sure it could work. One king suite also comes with a sofabed, and a curtain for a wall in case you need visual privacy (read: we can still hear you). The TV is situated in the middle of the console so both sides can see even with the curtain drawn. Flip a coin for who gets the remote, and you're in business for a good night's sleep. Maybe. Having the full kitchen was perfect for soup and grilled cheese as dinner, as the temps dropped to near 30 in the mountains that night. Also loved the dual bins in the room that you can separate trash from recycling. The indoor pool is saltwater, which I opted not to partake in since it was so cold outside anyway. Breakfast...geesh. What a mess. The setup is weird, and there is a long large table right in front of the serving area, which makes it difficult to navigate the space, especially if people choose to sit here. The lack of any vegetarian or vegan options made us bounce right back to the room, pack up, and head out to the city. As one of the few lodgings in Roanoke that allows pets, I don't think we had a great enough experience to return. I think next time we'll leave the dog at the sitter and try a different hotel. read more

Had guys staying in the hotel following the girls in the hall ways... i received calls about noise complaints when it wasn't our room we heard the noise next door too. Not sure how new this place is, but the construction appeared cheap and it was already beaten up. We reported issues with bugs (and we requested/received new sheets) and with water streaming out of the A/C vent. Some of the bugs were fleas, which were likely due to this hotel being pet friendly. Stayed here Friday June 22, 2018. I have mixed feelings about our stay, but overall it was good and I would stay here again if I had to. I would look for other choices first, but if I had to I could stay here again. The room was spacious and nice. 2 queens and a pull out was plenty of room for 4 adults. The place is clean. The value was good. It's the little things that were bothersome. Not deal breakers, but just tiresome after a while. The top problems were poor parking and not enough table space at the continental breakfast. The pool area is nice but people are literally rubbing there eyes because the smell of chlorine is SUPER STRONG. We couldn't stay in the hot tub or pool as long as we hoped because of it. But then again, they give you a nice little gift bag with pistachios and bottled water when you arrive. The room has a full fridge and microwave. Well decorated too. Get here early for parking and early for breakfast and you'll give it 5 stars. read more
