The counter help doesn't understand English too well, which is challenging. I find often they are out of many items. last night I had the potatoes and roasted garlic and they tasted like only potato, in the past most of what they had was good I don't know if it's new ownership, but I'll have to just wait and try another package. I walked into the store today and immediately turned around and went back outside thinking I walked into the wrong place. Although the large sign says Homemade Pirogi still hangs above the door, the inside has been transformed into a Latin market/restaurant. Luckily someone who worked there came out to get me and told me they sell pirogis. Main difference is they weren't fresh. They sell them frozen now. read more

This place is awesome! My mother goes here almost every time she is in the area. I went for the first time this past month. The pirogi's here are fantastic and there are is a variety. They have a selection of choices I wouldn't even imagine. We got mushroom, sauerkraut, cheese and spinach pirogi's the last time we went. Couldn't pick just one. We had all intentions of getting one kind or maybe 2 but that didn't work out. They are made fresh, packaged and frozen later for purchase. Great price and great owner. Amazing pirogies. They have so many yummy flavors to choose from. My favorite is potato and cheese. The pizza pirogies are delicious. The apple and apricot pirogies are amazing. This is the only place I buy pirogies from. I haven't found another place that compares to these pirogies. I highly recommend this place. A little gem. The dough is so light. The filings are delicious. Had the pizza, mushroom, cheese and potato, and broccoli and spinach. Totally understand why the mushroom sells out frequently. The broccoli and cheese are like a calzone with very light and tender dough. Pizza is awesome. I can not wait to try their apple and the apricot pierogi. Just have their Pirogis for the first time last night... WOW they were delicious. I usually buy the frozen ones in the super market because I love pirogis and they are quick, low fat meal. But make no mistake I know they are not the real thing... Now that I moved to Clifton and have Homemade Pirogis around the corner, I'll only be buying them there. The mushroom one was my favorite, and we also loved the pot cheese and the spinach ones. They were terrific with my caramelized onions and I also put out some sour cream (which we didn't even use, they were so good alone). I wish they were open a little later than 6pm, so I could get there easier after work... but I recommend everyone stop there are give them a try! Bring cash! read more

There are a lot of Polish places in Clifton that make pirogis, but only one is as serious about pirogis as Homemade Pirogi. They've been open since 1986, and have an enormous selection of frozen pirogis, including: potato and cheese, potato, sauerkraut, pot cheese, pot cheese and potato, broccoli, spinach, pizzarogies, prune (these are really good), cheese and apricot (double plus good), sweet cabbage, broccoli and spinach royale, mushroom, and apple. I've had about half the menu and loved all of it, especially the fruit ones. They sell for about $5.95 per dozen frozen and come with directions for making at home. read more

Found this place by googling perogies near me. Let me tell you they are WONDERFUL. Got the traditional and pizza perogies. The pizza ones are incredible. The traditional ones would probably pop even more if I sauteed onions in with them. I'll return to pick up some more. There's no seating here or anything like that. It's grab and go. You'll need to put the finishing touches on (frying, etc.) before you eat them. read more

Well this place has become a family tradition pretty fast. I have been going here since their humble beginnings in Passaic nj. I few years ago when our grandma got sick at easter time I was asked if there was any place I knew of to get some Pirogi because grandma couldn't make them. I went over to Homemade Pirogi for a few dozen. Well everyone including myself felt that these were as good and (sorry grandma bless your soul) maybe better. Well now it is a tradition and I bring not only the staple potatoes and cheese but also some other of there varieties. These Pirogi's are all made right at the store in the old world tradition and is also a must have by our family and friends in NYS. In fact if I were to forget to buy them I may as well stay home. Give them a try with the local favorite potatoes and cheese and you'll be hooked like we are. We love this place read more

WOW. WOW. WOW! The pirogies (dare I say) are even better than my nanny's! I picked up a dozen of each: Pizza, Sauerkraut, Potato & Cheese. The Pizza pirogies legit taste like mini pizzas.. full of garlic, spices, cheese and the perfect sauce! We fried them in some avocado oil and topped them w sour cream and DEVOURED THEM. They will be our go-to cheat for sure! The traditional sauerkraut and potato/cheese were full flavor and fillings! Whats great about these pirogies is that the dough used is light, and doesn't take over the savory pastry... sometimes pirogies can be very doughy and not a lot of filling and that is NOT the case w these! Plus, at $6 a dozen, you can't beat that. This is not a place to sit and eat as they have no seating. Its grab & go and cook them at home. They provide different re-heating methods for whatever your taste. incredibly fresh, and super nice staff. I WILL be returning for more & to pick some up for my mom to try :) read more

As a chlld my mom labored an entire day to make her pirogi and until I came across this store, I have never been able to buy any pirogi that remotely tasted like hers. And this is it! YUMMY! A friend's mom recommended the place Wednesday morning and I bought some that day. OMG these are yummy! I am completely out! I bought a dozen spinach, spinach brocolli and potato. Very delish. They have a large selection and kept frozen which works for me. They also have right out of the oven. Owner is really sweet. They only take cash which can be an inconvenience but totally respectable. I love them all. The Apple ones are perfect with some ice cream. Spinach are heaven.
