Do not work at Kainos. I worked at Kainos and experienced lots of political BS-- favoritism, discrimination, and double standards. If you are a woman, an ILS or SLS instructor, a "protected class" minority, and if you share your managers religious beliefs, you will likely do OK at Kainos. But if you are male, do overnights, and do not share your managers religious beliefs, and are honest, you will be marginalized and oppressed. Kainos has dozens of "unwritten rules" that are NOT in the Employee Handbook-- my "mistake" was to speak the Truth and the Kainos system shi*tted me out! Do not work at Kainos. I have a 20 year full time job I cannot put on my resume thanks to Andy, who admitted to me one year later that it was a "retaliation termination"!! He should be fired for that bullsh*t. Admin staff initiate bait-and-switch meetings, so be careful if you're still working at Kainos: quit before they get petty revenge. I had NO reprimands ever, and during my last 16 years at Kainos, I had NO employee evaluations-- none! But... 20 years full time job, 4 minute termination meeting. Id like to go through your post quickly to disprove its authenticity. During my 10 years working at Kainos I never encountered any Biases, or "corruption". I was treated with respect and equality like all other employees. I have never encountered a "protected class" at Kainos, and especially not women! They often must work harder, and closer to the clients than the men do. The religious beliefs statement probably offended me the most. My Manager and I could not have been any further from each other regarding religious attitudes, yet we worked well together, she made herself available for questions, held monthly staff meetings to air any grievances, brainstorm, and often food was provided. As for the Employee handbook, It's pretty airtight, and most times I had a question for my manager the answer would be in the handbook. These unwritten rules you commented on, I think they may fall under common sense; however considering I don't know what you are referring too, ill leave it at that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On to my personal review. Kainos could not be a better program to work for. It is an assisted living located in Redwood city. The facility has ALWAYS put the needs of the clients first. They pay higher than any other assisted living facility I looked at, and the management I interacted with were all very welcoming, rational, and patient people. The previous impersonator mentioned Andy. I didn't see Andy every day, but I did interact with him every other month or so. I could not ask for a better Executive Director. He was always clear, respectful, and calm. I doubt the truthfulness of the statement," "retaliation termination" I saw first-hand the good that Kainos provided not only to its clients but to its community through fundraising, concerts in the park, fashion shows, trips to Disneyland, the list goes on. It really is a amazing nonprofit. I loved my time at kainos, and I'm fairly certain I will never be treated with as much respect, and honesty as when I was an employee. Patrick, the home health aid, was wonderful; coming a couple times a week to help me shower; he is very thorough & another wonderful person. (We'd had hospice support for a parent many years ago, but under very different circumstances.) I've had five visits in the two weeks since I've been home; I am VERY impressed and grateful. Beyond checking and re-dressing a large incision, the nurses have meticulously monitored my pain levels, meds and basic health indicators. They've been patient, kind and communicative. They offered 8 hour shifts for $42 per hour or 12 hour shifts for $46 per hour. We chose 3, 8 hour shifts. Because they sent new people and there was very little returning providers we had to continually explain Dad's needs and how to care for him. Although we explained how to get to the house, the manager did not include it in the instructions for the providers or they did not review it so we repeatedly had to explain it. Some of the issues we had included: A provider allowed Dad to walk without a walker. A provider left him alone to go into another part of the house to eat. When she went back he had managed to get himself out of bed and across the room. We found him in bed, without a pull-up and the bed was wet. One was over an hour late. We advised them that his hearing aids had to be removed when he slept and that his dog would eat them. They didn't remove them and the dog got one and destroyed it. We were told we needed to give them 48 hours notice. When we gave notice they told the caregiver next on the schedule he was cancelled. There was one outstanding caregiver. Hussein. She was companionate, caring and skilled. We were so happy when she came and she took excellent care of Dad. As we are in our 60's we had hoped Thekey would provide Dad care and help reduce our stress. They actually made caring for Dad more stressful. We would strongly recommend finding care elsewhere.

I heard warnings about the quality of SNFs available for Kaiser patients. Since I was worried for my mother, I toured several facilities before I found Atherton Post Acute. I left several messages to all of the facilities contracted with Kaiser, as well as filled out their contact forms. Atherton was one of the two who called me timely. Some of them still have not responded. From the start, the cleanliness and patient centered environment is what attracted me to this SNF. My mother had a rough start at the facility and the nurses were very caring and patient. After the initial anxiety my mom had, two of the night nurses told me that it often takes a couple of days for a patients to get settled in. They completely understood and told me how much my mom loves to converse with them. The PT and other activities are so varied, my mom appreciates she has a choice of things to do. She particularly loves the ability to receive Holy Communion. She has come to understand that she has work hard to get through the PT and healing and that there are things she can do there to help the time pass easier. Communicating with their coordinators and managers is very easy. I found that my mom's renal diet food was making her miserable. The coordinator quickly worked it out with the cook, and she has been really happy with the variety. Everyday, I've seen my mom's spirit improve. The doctor and nurse coordinator has been on top of my mom's improvement and it's so easy to talk to them about her medical condition. They have given her outstanding personal care. The staff is friendly and are very respectful about privacy. Many of the patients need personal help, and you never see people in there rooms being cleaned up or changed. It really helps that the staff are cheerful and caring. The facility has really nice community areas. Patients have the option to sit together in a dining room, or dine in their rooms. The rehab room is huge and my mom has been having fun with some of the easier exercises. Everyday, laundry is taken out and washed when requested, and everything from socks to toothpaste are readily and happily given when requested. It is always nice seeing the nurses and other staff make their rounds because they are so friendly and always glad to help. I would highly recommend this SNF to anyone.

Our family came to this hospice when my father was admitted for comfort care for three weeks. This…read morewas one of the most emotional and vulnerable times of our lives. There were a few nurses who were truly compassionate -- they hugged us, reassured us, and made it clear that my father's comfort mattered. Those moments meant more to us than they will ever know. However, there were also nurses whose approach felt cold and dismissive. One nurse was so blunt that he didn't even finish feeding my father because it was taking him too long to chew. In a place meant for comfort and dignity, moments like that were deeply painful to witness. The facility itself could also use more nurturing care. The environment felt in need of better cleanliness and attention, which is especially important in a setting where families are already carrying so much emotional weight. Sadly, my father passed away. I do want to acknowledge one nurse on the third floor who stood out beyond words. From my very first visit, which was incredibly emotional she assured me she would take the best care of my father, and I believed her. Her compassion, warmth, and humanity brought comfort to our family during the hardest days of our lives. I saw her again recently and couldn't help but hug her. If you are reading this, please know you are truly an angel. I only wish I had remembered your name. May God bless you with love, peace, and happiness. Hospice care should be built on patience, kindness, and dignity. I hope this facility reflects deeply on the care it provides, because families will remember these moments forever.
