I don't know who is leaving all these glorious reviews they must have the granny that only needs a microwaved dinner because as a friend of someone who needs care to help with basics like transfers and hygiene care this place fails. They consistently do not have reliable providers who actually show up on time to do their jobs. I stopped counting how many times my friend said his caregivers didn't show up, left him in bed for hours past their scheduled times, and or the company uses some emotionally manipulative tactics like oh we have someone coming in from Antioch or San Francisco or even Pittsburgh. Why would a client need to hear this information except they are attempting to stall and or make someone think they are trying but only half heartily to fulfill their federal and state paid government contract. Their services are so poor they only recently got a website. I attempted to source a caregiver privately who would contract with this company and I had to beg her to deal with them because they are so horrible to work with. I couldn't even count all the times all the times I walked in and the care giver was sitting down in a chair looking at their phone and not working. They have people who cant even pick up after themselves and ignored basic cleaning 101. Likely they also gave him covid and no big surprise they left him completely uncared for alone and by himself with no one to help him. This company is taking money from the state and federally and not providing services to San Mateo county's most needy recipients. Throughout the 2.5 years of support, we have had several caregivers due to my father's increasing needs ranging from fairly independent to currently, on home hospice care. At each stage of his increasing needs, we were fortunate to have developed a relationship / partnership with each caregiver. They were skilled, respectful, very caring, and supportive to my dad. In fact, they still follow up with him to this day. Resh has met with me several times to ensure that not only my Dad's needs were being met, but that I was okay as well. They actually sent a caregiver who was already trained and well versed in using the hoyer lift and brace. Unfortunately, the caregiver assigned to us, though in most respects first rate, never arrived for the final session, a session that was particularly important to us. Worse, she never communicated to us a reason, either before or after, for not showing up. Such behavior is simply irresponsible, so I can't honestly give the service a high rating. I give a 3 because the agency should not be held completely responsible for the failings of its caregivers. But I do caution others to be careful who they work with through it. read more

My 93 year old sister-in-law returned to her home from rehab after a serious fall and fractures, and needed 24/7 care because she had virtually no family on the West Coast. I spoke with 3 or 4 different agencies and from the first sentence of our conversation, Victoria Tuvilla (the owner) gave me great confidence and professional advice. She and Ed Sano (my relative's Case Manager) came to her home within an hour after she was discharged, and spent hours with us to introduce all the caregivers, as well as make sure the house was set up appropriately and we had all the equipment that might be needed. Ed made frequent visits to check on Mary, communicated with us frequently, and coordinated all the caregiver shifts. Very unexpectedly, the assignment changed from "companionship and caregiving" to "end of life" and hospice care when a long-standing blood condition morphed into acute leukemia. Mary's same caregivers from AHSSC were able to provide comfort and peace during the last 8 weeks of her life. All had previous experience with hospice care and knew exactly what to do. We never had to worry about someone missing a shift, or failing to notice a change in Mary's condition. And the caregivers were kind and empathetic as they helped all of us prepare for the end of life, frequently texting updates and helping manage visits from the hospice nurses and doctor. We are grateful beyond words to everyone at AHSSC. I can't recommend them more highly, and wish they had a branch out here in New Jersey. I contacted Victoria based on a flyer my sister found in an ice cream shop, and boy am I glad I did! We checked out several places before deciding on AHSSC, and we definitely made the right choice. My mother came to stay with me during her lengthy illness, and I was in the middle of nursing school, so it was a rough time to try to coordinate the kind of care she needed. Victoria made the process as painless as possible (nothing was painless with my mom's illness and care!) and provided me with an excellent team so I could focus on loving my mother, and school, rather than helping her with her activities of daily living that she needed. My mother was still very aware and intelligent, but needed physical help with many things, and all the helpers were incredible at providing the customized kind of care she deserved, and needed. When my mother ended up in the hospital, for an extended period of time, the original team was mostly otherwise committed by the time she was discharged. I was really concerned about getting people who weren't as good, and reorienting them all, but Victoria managed, amazingly to put together another fantastic team for mom's 24-hour care! Every care giver had such a big heart, and such great skills. And they were all communicative in the ways I asked them to be, and just really great human beings. Victoria checked in with me, and with the team, often, and clearly really cares about her employees, as well as her clients. Sadly, my mom passed away after another hospitalization, but even though it had been weeks since I'd seen any of the caregivers, every one of them checked in with me, and paid their respects and sent their thoughts my way. I highly recommend At Home Support Senior Care regardless of what your home-care needs are, 24/7, respite, live-in, whatever.
