My mother has been a post acute patient for just over 2 weeks after a short hospital stay and recommendation that rehab would be needed to get her stronger and back on her feet. Our family discouraged us from this place because it is an older facility and it seems there is a mix of physical / occupational therapy and longer term care patients (it is true). What I found was a caring staff, smaller set-up and nice group of patients to help mom transition to what might be a new path for her. Mom has vision, hearing, short term memory and now physical weakness and she likes the place. I have found that when I want a modification to her care (later bed time, that I would do mom's laundry, to review the list of goals for her physical abilities) the staff is quite willing to accommodate. Mom may not fully get back on her feet and we might need long term care and Devonshire has been a good staging area to determine what is possible. Mom's room mate has be so patient with mom and her short term memory issues. The grounds are nice and it is possible to have our visit out in the courtyard which mom likes. Devonshire is not for everyone but for my mother's needs it has been a God send for our family. read more

My father recovered at Devonshire Oaks for over a month following a heart attack. At 96, the doctors didn't give us much hope for his recovery/betterment, but with the combined care of both our family members visiting almost daily and the Devonshire staff he left there happy and strong enough to manage his daily activities with minimal oversight. What sets Devonshire apart from other facilities we've witnessed is the relaxed, but responsible set up: not too many beds, nurses/staff were kind and responsive, no overly rigid rules on visiting hours and it made our family's participation easy & welcomed at a very stressful time in our lives. The other differentiator was the food - they generally cook well balanced meals, especially at dinner. The fillet of fish with a tomato puree topping still stands out in my mind. Do not put yourself or a loved one in this facility. There are two major flaws that I encountered while a resident for 4 days. 1) the population is intermixed meaning that patients with memory and behavioral issues are roomed with general rehab patients. I thought I was in a horror film during my stay here. There were a core group of patients roaming the halls in wheelchairs shouting various things, screaming uncontrollably, laughing and/or making unintelligible sounds during the day and night. Sleeping in this facility is impossible!! 2) there is no PT here to speak of (well, other then having someone put a belt leash around your middle to walk you up and down the corridor). The staff here is very kind but that doesn't make up for the myriad of other things that make up the "skilled nursing facility." Sigh. read more

My mom has been a patient at Devonshire Oaks Nursing Center for more than 4 weeks from Stanford Hospital due to her fracture. She needed physical therapy and occupational therapy. Everyone in this facility is very kind and friendly. They are very attentive and patient. The Rehabilitation department special mention to Sienna and Lili, they are very patient with my mom in doing her therapy and the instructions are very clear. The food is served hot and freshly cooked and not reheated which makes it like home cooked. It is served on time and coffee and drinks are always available. Some patients need understanding and compassion, and the staff in this facility are amazing in providing the care that pt need even if they are difficult patients. I couldn't thank Devonshire Oaks Nursing Center enough for being part of my mom's healing journey. read more

As a pneumonia rehab patient at Devonshire, after 7 days at Stanford hospital, I experienced excellent care from the staff. They were caring, ever friendly, informative, prompt to respond to requests, and kind at all times. I also noticed how kind, patient, and caring they were to other patiens as well, even those who seemed difficult and challenging. And cleanliness and safety are high priority there. Floors were constantly being swept and mopped very thoroughly, garbage cans emptied very often as well, masks and gloves consistently worn by staff, with glove changes even when ministering to two patients in the same room. The activity room provided exercise sessions, singing, etc. and meals as well (if patients wished to eat there rather than in their rooms). The staff was wonderful at staying upbeat which gave the encouraging sense that one's health would improve. This included plenty of laughter at times, including during singing sessions, that was most welcome. The physical rehab team was excellent, caring, and encouraging and I learned so much about proper exercises to continue when home again. The only downside was the quality of the food. Most the time quite bland, unappealing, sometimes not even edible esp. if too hard or dry to cut or chew. I'm not the only disappointed patient who strongly held this opinion. Happily, hot chocolate and dry cereal on request, and icecream and other treats provided between lunch and dinner, were always tasty, welcome, and appreciated. The food quality was the only disappointing aspect there, and the only reason I'm giving Devonshire 4 stars instead of 5. But the staff was beyond any critiism and wonderful throughout. In fact, I hope to go back just to visit them occasionally, or maybe to do some sort of volunteer work there when strong enough again if needed by them. I left Devonshire with much affection for the staff and gratitude for their care and the improvement in my health. They will be remembered by me forever, with so much gratitude to each individual one of them. I will never forget them. read more

My sister stayed at Devonshire Oaks from 5/21/2018 thru 6/29/2018 after a prior 4 day stay at Sequoia Hospital, where she recovered from life threating staff infection she contracted at home prior to admittance. It was a god send for our family. Devonshire Oaks took great care of her medical needs and physical therapy. And my sister thrived and left the facility and in much better health able to function on her own at her time of release and is now doing so much better. I was especially thankful for Nurse Carla Bundalian who greated me with a smile and kept me update with my sisters health, rxs, doctors observations and physical therapy. The physical therapy staff were so instrumental in her incredibal recovery from others lifting her legs to her now using a walked and getting around on her own. The staff at Devonshire gave my mother amazing care during her stay (for almost two months). I was blown away at the level of care and professionalism they showed her and my entire family. I can't put into words how thankful I am that a center like this exists and cares for its patients the way the entire team does. The nurses were on top of their game with meds and making sure every little scratch was attended to, the assistants were so patient and kind and the physical therapists we're incredible! I was admitted to Devonshire Oaks directly from Sequoia Hospital where I had laid helpless as antibiotics were administered for a bout with pneumonia in addition to chemo for my cancer condition.. I fell in weight to 151 lbs at the hospital and was weak and just skin and bones.. My stay at Devonshire was for over 5 weeks.. I was released 5/7/2011.. The facility.. Devonshire is bright and clean with no lingering unpleasant odors.. The rooms have been refurbished and are as appealing as a fine motel.. They have an all purpose room with daily ongoing activities and the room also serves as the dining room for breakfast, lunch and dinner.. For those choosing to eat in their room, the trays are delivered promptly and the food was always hot.. The food.. Served at 7:30am, 12:30pm and 5:30pm.. A wide variety of delicious food is served.. Snacks are also available.. The facility catered to my needs.. After having talked to the head chef and dietician, I received special portions and a mix of protein requirements needed for the cancer condition .. The chef regularly checked in with me after dinner to ascertain that I was getting good, tasty food with ample portions.. He was eager to bring more food if I so desired.. The people.. The total staff was outstanding.. Helpful and friendly.. The people ( from administrators, to therapists, to housekeeping constantly checked to see if my stay was to my liking.. and my needs addressed) .. It is a joy to be surrounded by nice people.. smiling and friendly.. I was even helped with setting up my laptop computer to help pass the time each day.. and getting hot chocolate brought to my room at the end of day.. The Therapy.. Daily weekday (from Mon-Fri).. The physical therapy was a crucial part of my stay to gain strength lost at the hospital.. I give the highest marks to the therapists for their skill at administering just the right amount of excercises and adjusting to each patients level of aptitude to get maximum benefit from the therapy.. All of the therapists were friendly, attentive and skilled in what they were doing.. Overall.. Outstanding in my opinion.. I left the facility weighing 179 lbs. and my strength was restored permitting me to leave without aid of a walker or wheelchair.. read more

This a wonderful place. A wonderful place because of the care from the nursing staff. They have the most nicest and helpful CNAs! Housekeeping maintains the care of the building thoroughly. Family-oriented facility, by what I mean is the residents are like "family" who are felt cared for and loved. I worked there in the therapy department, before moving out of state. I have had 20+ years of experience working in therapy departments at different facilities and Devonshire has the best nursing staff I have ever worked with. I was very disappointed that my brother went here for rehab. The staff is friendly but the place is old and I didn't think it was safe there. With the coronavirus going on, they still allowed people to drop off food to the patients there. They didn't wear gloves when I dropped off food. The food there was poor quality. I pray for the people residing and working there to be safe during this time. read more

I'm not really sure about this place. When you have an elderly loved one staying here and they DO NOT ever answer the phone, it is extremely nerve wrecking. The staff seems nice enough, but I'm not gonna gloat and give them high praise for things they should already be doing. Let's answer the phones 1st so that loved ones and family members can be informed about the status of those in your care, next if your lucky enough to get someone on the phone, it would be amazing if they actually gave you legitimate information. I called to get information about my Grandmother and was told she was not there, funny I had just spoken with her about an hour before I made the call, so that caused me to lose it a little. If this was a place where they are supposed to take care of people who cannot take care of themselves, I need there to be a lot more empathy and compassion shown for the residents of this establishment. Right now I feel like nobody cares. How hard is it to answer the phone and answer a couple questions. Today is Valentines Day 2019 and I am NOT feeling any Love at all from this place. If you need to hire more staff, so that a basic need such as a receptionist duties can be handled more appropriately, I suggest you hire more people immediately. If I could choose a place to go once I get older and am in need of help, it would not be here. That is all. read more

I transferred my brother to Devonshire Oaks about nine months ago and have been very satisfied with the long term care that he is receiving. My brother is entirely dependent on others for all the activities of daily living. He is in a wheelchair and cannot help in his transfers, doesn't speak, and can only eat pureed food. During the last nine months, I have not noticed any turnover of staff which I consider a very big plus. Consistent, experienced caregivers are essential to my brother's well being as he can't speak for himself and new caregivers can't know him well enough to anticipate his needs. Also, having nurses on staff, and a very attentive doctor at the facility several times each week insures that any medical issues will be dealt with in a timely manner. Devonshire Oaks is a small facility and is not an elegant place, but they have a pleasant patio and waterfall, kind people working there, great medical oversight, a physical therapy component even for someone like my brother, and the administrators have been very easy to work with. I would like to see Devonshire Oaks bring in occasional entertainment as other facilities do, but this is something they could consider going forward. I am very happy to have my brother at Devonshire Oaks and am confident that they will continue to care for him as well as they have to date. read more

My ninety one year old mother has been transferred to Devonshire Oaks Nursing Home Rehab Center. This is a wonderful facility. One hears horror stories about the lack of cleanliness of places like this, but as you walk through the main door you can see, and smell, how well kept this facility is. There is a ninety eight year old patient, whose son is an acquaintance of mine who is a long time resident there. Yesterday I asked her what she thought of Devonshire Oaks, and she said it was the staff. Not only are they caring and loving, but they are a team. Never in all the time she's been there has she heard any staff member say to another; this is not part of my job. I've met twice with Melissa, the head nurse, and as a retired administrator I can see that she and Jessica are the reason the place runs do well. Nobody likes to see his mother's health failing, but this is a fact of life. I consider myself very lucky to have found this facility for mom's rehabilitation. read more

Let's start with if I could give Devonshire Oak less than 1 star then I would. Like most people that are trying to find a nursing home for a loved one it is hard enough to deal with the hardship of a love one needing more care than you can provide. When you add a nursing home making the situation hard by it makes it even worse. I was calling nursing homes to find a space for my ailing grandmother. I thought I was lucky that I found what seemed to be a good nursing home near when my family and I live that I had heard good things about. I thought I was even luckier when I got a call from Devonshire Oaks and the hospital my grandmother was being discharged from telling that Devonshire would be taking my grandmother as a resident. The hospital was able to schedule transportation prepare my grandmother for her move. No more than 30 minutes later I receive a call from the hospital saying that Devonshire Oak called and said they would no longer take my grandmother. I called Devonshire Oaks and spoke to Brandon who seemed more interested in not helping and making excuses. It took me saying that I would call licensing for him to even offer to call the hospital to find out all the information the nursing home needed. Shortly after I get a call from the hospital saying Devonshire Oaks would still not take my Grandmother. I have still not received a call back from Brandon to give me an update and it has been over five hours. This has been a horrible experience and I would recommend that anyone that is looking for a nursing home for yourself or a loved one to look elsewhere. read more

What can I say? Except that they're the best nursing facility in town! Had my grandma there for a couple of weeks after surgery. Their therapy is topnotch; they had my grandma walking in no time. She is now back home! I will be forever thankful to their amazing and caring staff! read more

My father was told after his heart valve replacement surgery that he was going to need rehab. My family had already been going through so much that we were not looking forward to a couple more weeks or longer of having him away from home. After looking around at the facilities in the area (there are so many!) we came across Devonshire Oaks. The staff were so friendly and really made us feel at ease. My Dad's recovery wasn't the easiest nor was he very pleasant to be around at the time, but they were so patient with him and were able to motivate him (and push him when he needed it) to regain his strength and come home. We are all so thankful for them! We really want to still go by and visit them because they are all now members of our extended family. I highly recommend this place if you are looking around too! read more
