When a resident left a non-anonymous bad review, they spam-called them begging the resident to take it down, even though all they left was true information. The building we're in has had constant heating issues since Fall of 2024. It's currently Spring of 2025. After constant calls and work orders, it's still not fixed. When a resident asked when this problem would be fixed, they got the answer: "I don't know I'm not an engineer," from one of the property managers. Will we be compensated for having to use our AC and fans in the Winter???? I sincerely doubt it. There has been a history of maintenance entering our apartments and leaving a complete mess, and not putting things back afterwards. Residents have come home to complete messes due to maintence. Most of the time, they dont even really fix anything. They do cheap fixes that don't even last a day. A resident has complained of mold in the walls. The resident was blamed by property management, despite the resident having a humidifier on nonstop. We are paying YOU for a home. Do your jobs, or find another one. Many residents are fed up with the poor management that's been in place for years. When will enough be enough? I will amend my review when these issues are fixed. Inquired online and requested info. Sales lady emailed me back saying she was booked for the day. Since I didn't see the email and was out looking at other apartments, I decided to stop in around noon. She got up from her desk and gave me a folder and wrote some info down as well. Registered my visit and sounded like everything she said was memorized (rote), while writing additional info down. There was no nice greeting or interest in me and what I was looking for. She lacked any kind of enthusiasm. Even said they, at times they have a wait list (I guess to create urgency). I asked if I could see the model or go through an apartment, her reply was that there wasn't any to walk. Very old school operation - even original owners 'old portraits' are up on the wall along with old pictures of the complex. I grew up here and am familiar with Homestead Apartments but they do need to do a few updates - mainly their HVAC systems. Only one A/C unit with each apt (some may have 2) because they have to be on the back of the buildings. I can understand that window units on the fronts would look bad. I asked if they had considered 'splits' for the living room areas. She kind of laughed and said 'no' they won't be doing that. A split is like the hotel a/c and can be added to older buildings (Homestead didn't have A/C when built in the 50's). Super easy fix (I work in New Home sales myself). Well, my reply to her was that they will some day!!! She's been there for years and you can tell she isn't so enthused and is more of a property manager. She's even a Licensed Realtor and you have to sign something saying you agree to use her on this deal (yes you can get paid by your boss!). I asked, 'oh so I can bring my own realtor in?' And her reply was 'no'. So she's actually an independent contractor and not an employee??? Hmmm interesting. Again, old school and says a lot. Anyway, they won't offer any short term arrangement so I'm out, but sounds like they won't miss me either (lol). read more

I was surprised with some of the reviews so I decided to write my own. I lived here for 6 1/2 years. The price was very fair and the unit had just been redone. I had a garden apartment and I liked the feel and the laminate flooring. I hate carpeting. The complex is very quiet and safe. The maintenance staff is very good and quick to make repairs. They are always helpful and clean. When there is snow, the snow is removed or cleaned right away. I never had a problem with the office staff. When needed, they were helpful. I did have a few issues with my apartment but the maintenance staff or contractors did the repairs in a timely fashion. This place is a very good place to live and very close to stores and the train. I found it quicker to walk to the Jewel than to drive. The laundry room was next to my unit but not in a way that I ever heard any noise. I thought the fees were fair and made sense. You pay for a parking garage, the heat is included for a $35 per month charge, etc. read more

The management is terrible. They have no problem at all lying directly to your face. I caught Andretta in multiple lies. They tried to make me pay to get out a null and void lease but because I was aware of my rights, they were not able to do that and in fact i got my security deposit back. But had I not known, I would've not gotten that back and paid probably over a grand to get out of it. They will cheat you when they can, they will lie to you and they just don't seem to consider ethics or morality in their business dealings whatsoever. don't recommend at all. read more

I don't recommend this apartment complex. Staff is very rude and unhelpful. They changed our unit and increased our rent due to upgrades that we weren't informed of prior to filling out the application. Upon viewing the apartment after we were given our keys we realized the unit was on the top floor and that wouldn't work for our father. Also noticed the hallway walls were filthy. They charged us $1200 to get out of contract and lost our security deposit. They also make you pay $200.00 for storage even if you don't need it. I've written a letter to ownership lets see if he gets back to me. If not it is a money making place that doesn't care about people because my 92 year old father could not climb three flights of stairs. If we could have seen the unit ahead of time this all could have been avoided. I recommend you move on to another complex. read more

Everything has been excellent from my first contact with Michelle from the office to the day I moved in. This complex is filled with green grass, trees, and kids play areas in a park like setting for both older and younger individuals' alike. Stores and dining within walking distance while still set in a charming neighborhood of peaceful calmness for one's relaxing evening at home with family and friends or by oneself. I have lived at the Homestead for about a month now and am very happy with my new apartment. Michelle Herz, the Administrative Assistant who assisted me throughout my move-in process, is extremely polite and friendly. Her overall professionalism and helpfulness were one of the deciding factors in choosing to live at the Homestead. The community here is very clean and quiet. I think the rent at Homestead is very fair and quite competitive for the area. I have lived in other places nearby where I was paying quite a bit more for amenities I never used. The buildings are a bit older (which I kinda like), but they are in the process of refurbishing all the units with plank flooring and upgraded kitchens that include new wooden cabinets, stainless steel appliances, which includes a dishwasher. The Homestead is situated very close to downtown La Grange, which has numerous places to eat and shop. It is also an ideal location for anyone using the train to commute to work. Many places in the area are within walking distance including Trader Joe's, Jewel, Chipotle and Panera. Memorial Park is just around the corner which has sand volleyball, basketball and tennis courts, as well as a soccer and baseball field. The only initial drawback I had was the absence of an in-unit washer and dryer. I thought this might be a deal-breaker, but it's been a non-issue thus far. Each building has its own laundry facility and they are exceptionally clean. Directly across from each laundry unit, is storage space that comes with your apartment. If your unsatisfied with the unit you are given will not transfer to a different unit - property manager will make lame excuses and offer more patchwork repairs. I've been living here for about 2 months now and have nothing but good things to say. The price is reasonable and the location is right near downtown La Grange Park. The staff continuously goes above and beyond to accommodate my special circumstances and have made me feel comfortable and part of the community. They recently had a great community BBQ with a pig roast, raffles, drinks and even dessert! The only thing that took some getting used to was the trains behind the complex, they get a little bit loud but it is not something anyone can help. read more

This place will cause you nothing but headache. If you want to move in the area find something different. There is water in the basements after every bigger rain. Living on the second floor we had no control in the temperature in the apartment ( in winter it will not go below 79 it was a hell - open doors and windows wouldn't make it better ) the washer and dryer are terrible. You are better off going to a public place because your stuff can and will get ruined. One of the worst places I have ever lived in. This place is too old for they money you pay. Anytime it rains water leaks into the basement and if you have anything in your storage unit it gets ruined! Living on the second floor you have no control over the heat. In the winter we have to open up our window because it is too hot. Andrea is extremely rude and condescending. She told my husband that the only reason we got the place was because of his credit and that "you should tell your girlfriend to fix her credit." This was when we first moved in. We have fixed everything ourselves because it is impossible to get a hold of them. It is the WORST place I have every lived at, and the WORST people I have ever dealt with. I DO NOT recommend this place for anyone. There are much better places in the surrounding area that offer plenty of amenities for the same price. This place is a joke! read more

The agent I spoke with over the phone and met in person was very kind and professional. I wanted to speak with her supervisor about a possible extension of a special offer they had; Rent would be free the month of February for those that signed a lease in January. I didn't need to move until the end of February. This "supervisor" I spoke with was in the top 5 of the most unprofessional, rude individuals I have ever met. I wanted to have a simple discussion and she kept cutting me off and began raising her voice... I tried to explain how interested I was and why I felt it would be beneficial to both parties to extend the offer (just a conversation). She raised her voice and went on and on about how that would be discriminating against all the other individuals they said no to. I tried and failed (due to her explosive "that's discrimination" interruptions) to explain what discrimination actually is; she is legally required to choose the most qualified applicant (income and credit history). Illegal discrimination is when you choose one applicant over another that has a protected characteristic. She was too high up on her pedestal to listen. She not only conducted herself in a childish manner, she doesn't have the knowledge to do her job well, and she lost a great tenant. Oh be cautious of how they phrase the expenses. $300 "administration fee" $30 application fee (why is there an application if they don't choose the most qualified?) $35/month water and heat fee You still pay all electric and gas (Just for the stove) bills Just because they say there is no deposit does not mean that you will not be charged for any damages, because you will be. I currently live hear and didn't have any of the issues the other reviewers (one of them didn't even rent here, which I find interesting). The only issue I can say is that since it is an old building, you do hear the heater and pipes clanking when it gets colder but nothing too bad. The management is friendly and responsive and not a bad price for what you get (I have a garden apartment with my girlfriend) and you're really close to La Grange's downtown area. read more

I am a current resident and I couldn't be more pleased with my apartment. I looked at about 15 places before I settled on this complex almost a year ago. Through my experience, all of my neighbors have been super friendly and welcoming. The apartment complex is extremely quiet which is important to me and it does not allow dogs which is nice not to hear barking all the time. Homestead Apartments is in a great location where you can walk to just about anywhere, including the gorgeous downtown area, Jewel grocery store, Panera Bread, La Grange Park library, Memorial Park and a top-rated public school district. As far as maintenance goes, I live on the third floor and you can absolute control the heating, it does get a bit hot in the summer but the air conditioning units cool the entire apartment. The complex is very clean and the staff is extremely attentive. I haven't had many issues and when I did have a minor one, the maintenance staff took care of it immediately. Hayfa the property manager has always been super accommodating and willing to go above and beyond to make sure my stay is comfortable. I do wish each unit had a washer and dryer in it, but I understand that the complex was not originally built to hold this. Using the communal washer and dryer has not been an issue and right next to it you have a pretty large storage unit which is fantastic when you have children with bikes, and toys, etc. I will absolutely continue to stay here! read more

I lived in this apartment for around 3 years and I really loved the neighborhood and friends i made outside this apartment and the location is unbeatable. The place and the neighborhood is pretty good and very impressive. The location and schools and library and playground and jewel osco nearby is an ideal place to live and raise kids. Closer to downtown or say easy access to downtown. But cant say the same about this apartment and the property manager and the other two ladies who work under her. The apartment is very old and has mold problems. Whenever you have complaints they wouldnt get looked at all. They have no rules or consistent rules but that is what they give as reply for not fixing anything and for being rude and discriminatory. During winter the apartment is superhot and the temperature isnt consistent throughtout and you have leave windows and door open and make it work with humidifier and during summer they give you only 1 ac and in 1 room and that wouldnt be sufficient. But again you cant sit outside or barbecue or do anything outside. The kitchen doesnt have proper ventilation and the ameninities are old and doesnt work and it is very tiny kitchen and you cant use it for regular cooking. If you eat outside constantly then you can make this kitchen work for you. The property manager she makes up her own rules and a huge liar. She pretty much runs the place and makes up rules on the go and a very rude dictator. If she likes you, or if you could please her you can get a comfortable stay. Else she will make it miserable for anyone. The maintenance guys are good atleast some of them are and they work very hard and do their job pretty well but I feel because of this lady they get a bad rap sometimes. This apartment discourages you to have social life, the walls are thin and you arent allowed to do anything at all, and your guests cant park their car and kids cant play and the property manager expects you to get her approval everytime someone comes over. For young people or families with kids this place needs to be avoided at all costs. Wouldnt recommend this place for anyone who would like to have peaceful, healthy life. read more

I'm really enjoying my Homestead experience. I've lived in a 3rd floor one bedroom + den unit since October. The application process went quite smoothly, and the ladies at the office are kind, friendly, responsive, patient and very helpful, during inquiries, signing the paperwork and they even let me move in early for a fraction of the rental price. There were plenty of apartments to choose from, and I ended up with one with not one, but two air conditioning units (usually, you just get one window unit for the whole place)! The apartments allow cats (up to two), but they must be declawed. Maintenance is usually very responsive and very friendly, and they are on call at all hours. Apartments are roomy and the appliances are very nice - gas stove, new-ish refrigerator. My unit has metal kitchen cabinets, but it is an older model. Newer models are pricer and have updated kitchen appliances and wooden kitchen cabinets. Laundry is down in every other basement - there is a washer and a dryer for every twelve units. $1.75 to wash, $1.25 to dry. There are nearby laundromats in Westchester and Brookfield if you'd rather do your laundry there. Garages are optional - they are $65 monthly and one must pay for them in year-long terms. Rent is fair enough for the area and what you get for the price. Recycling and garbage pick up are available. They just updated the basements, which are notorious for flooding - they raised the floor levels in the storage lockers. The grounds are very nicely landscaped and I'm looking forward to how green this place will get in spring! read more

I have been living at Homestead Apartments for 8 months with my fiance. We have a 1 bedroom garden unit and so far have loved it. The surrounding area is nice and very safe, I have no worries about taking a walk to Jewel by myself. The proximity to downtown La Grange is great! The apartment itself is sizable compared to a lot of other units we looked at in the surrounding suburbs. I love having a separate dining room space, and it feels very open. You hardly ever hear your neighbors, in fact, I feel like it is too quiet sometimes. The only drawback is that it only comes with one parking spot, you have to pay extra for a garage space for another car. Also, supposedly they have a no dog policy but their are a quite a few people around our building that have dogs, not sure how they are getting away with that. Other than that we haven't had any issues, maintenance is very nice and attentive as well. I have not had to deal with the office staff that much since we moved in but they have always been very friendly during my encounters. read more
