We booked Hometown Taxi to take us wine tasting on the North Fork of Long Island based on a recommendation from one of the wineries that we touched base with during our planning. We are two couples with winery experience across the US and Europe. We were told that all Hometown taxi drivers were experienced and knowledgeable of the wineries on the North Fork. We were also told that we would be transported in a minivan. One of us researched the many wineries and chose five to cover our four-hour window. Our driver was friendly and polite. He did know the area and was familiar with the wineries but could not provide commentary that was helpful or insightful. He relied on us to use GPS for the best directions. It was clear that wine touring transportation was not his forte. Our minivan was very old, very dirty and very uncomfortable; well suited to transporting children rather than adults having to get in and out of the vehicle several times over a short period of time. We were happy to pay $80/hour for the convenience and we tipped our driver generously. However our expectations of comfortable, clean transportation and driver knowledge were not met. We do not recommend booking Hometown Taxi for winery tours on the North Fork of Long Island. The area and the wineries are beautiful; choose another for transportation. read more

I am assigned Hometown for transportation to and from dialysis 3 times each week. They are NEVER on time and my dialysis gets cuts short everytime they get me there late. The dispatcher is very rude and always says" we have 1000 customers- what do you expect?" Waited for over 45 minutes for a ride, after calling multiple times and being told he'd be there in a few minutes. We actually got so tired of waiting that we started walking the 3.5 miles back in the dark, and made it a mile and a half before he finally drove by and picked us up. And the price was astronomical. $40 each way, one way a 3.5 mile drive and the other a very late 2 mile drive. read more

When it first started it was a nice little owner operated business that went out of their way to provide good service but the schmucks that they have working their now are both incompetent and rude on the phone. After giving them 7 hours notice of a pickup for the Orient Pt Ferry they cancelled on my with 1 hours notice and left me stranded. Just use Uber. read more

I reserved a round trip service for 10 people 5 days prior to needing the pick up. I was called 10 minutes prior to when they were due to arrive and told that whoever took the reservation shouldn't have and they were unable to pick us up. No solution was offered and the person was not even apologetic. Apparently the second part of the trip (the return trip) driver was not informed that I was cancelled on and called me asking where we were. He also was very nasty and tried to place blame on our group for taking another company. read more

Here's why Lyft will succeed out east. I reserved a Hometown taxi for a special dinner 12 hours earlier and they never showed. I tried to contact them and they said they would be there in minutes after they were already late. And again never showed. So disappointing! read more

The most consistent taxi service and is generally there within time they say. However they are consistently inconsistent with the price! We went to the same area several times and the price was 15,20, 18, 30 for the mile ride!.....however the trip to the ferry was $35? There are no Uber's currently in the area so if you don't have a vehicle your stuck with taxis... read more

Barely ever availability. When there is a cab you have to wait an hour+. Not a very safe town. Vineyards and bars and drinking everywhere with no cabs or uber. Can anyone say DUI? Or is that not a problem here? read more

When you're on Orient Point you do not have many options for a taxi, the mini van was falling apart and the driver was going so fast I feared for my children's lives!! We will walk the 7 miles before I use this service again! read more

Called two hours in advance and requested a driver to pick me up at the Orient Point Ferry at 10:15, the driver showed up a half hour late and I was waiting in the dark parking lot by myself. I met a woman there who offered to split the cab with me to Greenport so the fare would be less. The woman who answers the phone said this would be fine but the driver would not honor it and charged us each the same price which was pretty steep in my opinion. Not sure there are other options but just be prepared for below par service. read more

Worst service ever.... Called was told a half hour till pick up. Waiting for well over an hour when we decided to start walking to our destination ( 5 miles ) We called while walking....the lady was rude and stated it would be another 30 minutes or so and when we stated we were walking and asked why we were not called to let us know we got no response. It was quicker walking than the length we waited for he taxi to never show. When we arrived at the vineyards and told th our stories they stayed they are the worst in the area. I didn't even ride with this cab company and I can already tell that this is not a reliable option. A few friends and I called to take a cab from Adams Street to 67 Steps Beach. The woman who answered the phone was so incredibly rude and had an attitude like we were BOTHERING her. This company lost our business simply from the way she spoke on the phone. Friendly, reliable service with nice drivers and good dispatcher. A tad on the spendy side - a five minute cab ride was 21 dollahs. I used the cab twice over the weekend and asked the dispatcher on the second call - if there was any way she could do $20 instead of $21 for the same five minute ride. She said to me, "You mean you are going to quibble over a DOLLAH? OK! For you a special price!". She had a good sense of humor even though I was giving her a hard time. read more

When Layyah totally dropped the ball and I was about to miss the last train out for the day, Hometown came to the rescue. A driver waiting for his shift to start heard my distress call and hopped in his cab early to swoop in and save the day. 10 minutes later I was sitting on the train ready to go. I didn't catch the driver's name but thank you so so much! I originally passed up Hometown because of the low rating but they clearly deserve 5 stars for saving my weekend. read more

My sons were picked up at Cross Sound Ferry in Orient. The 20 something male driver who arrived in shorts below his backside and a slew of tattoos quickly referred to his vehicle as "sh%&y*" because the trunk was unable to open and accommodate bags. During the 30 minute $55 ride (the other local cab company called quoted $50), the driver was speeding and texting. Fashion sense, personal taste and even a broken trunk one might accept if service is professional, legal and most of all safe. Next time, we'll call another company. read more

Beware of bad business practices! The female dispatcher called me an "asshole" and told me "to stop drinking" when I complained that the false time table she provided me caused us to miss our ferry home...she said someone would pick us up in 15 minutes...they got us after 50 minutes. The driver, to give him credit, was nice. The female dispatcher also accused me of providing her with the wrong pickup address...apparently the street where we were staying has a street name similar to another street in town...we are unfamiliar with the area but I clearly stated it. Went to Greenport assuming that I could catch a ride back with one of my friends working...turns out that was a wrong assumption to make. Closing time at Claudio's and not one uber to speak of. The one that did bite ended up cancelling after finding out the destination. In desperation, I asked the bouncers for a local recommendation, to which they offered up Hometown Taxi. I wasn't even expecting a taxi to come after getting off of the phone but not even a minute later our salvation had arrived. $80 to get back to Riverhead from Greenport was much cheaper than what I expected and frankly, a good deal. Our driver was kind and considerate, and even dropped a friend off that was a bit out of the way. The fact that they operate so late in the night and had no problem going that far west, coupled with a prompt arrival, cheap fare, and a great driver make them 5 stars in my book. We were in greenport and didn't have a way to get to the winery we wanted. Uber was real expensive and the other taxi services quoted a long wait. Luckily hometown taxi said they could be there in ten minutes. They showed up on time and drive us directly there. The driver was courteous and the dispatcher was nice. Called taxi to pickup a man who had too much to drink and could not drive home at the restaurant I work at. The woman on the phone was so rude. She started by telling me "does this man have money, I've had enough of inebriated broke men tonight". I told her if he didn't I would pay for it, I did not want the man getting into a car... My friends and family live in Mattituck and I would hate for an accident to happen. There was a language barrier so it took a few minutes for me to ask him his address. All the while the woman on the phone was complaining and telling me she was not dealing with another drunk man tonight. When it was not my fault that this man had too much to drink, yet she was treating me like it was my fault. OKAY. so you have a taxi service but you DONT PICKUP PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN DRINKING??? WOW. If you are on the North Fork and plan on drinking DONT CALL HOMETOWN TAXI because they are a taxi service that DOES NOT PICKUP DRUNK MEN, which the driver made VERY CLEAR to me. Maybe if you're a drunk woman it might be okay... What a joke. read more
