Stay FAR AWAY from this company! You can have a 8am pick up at your house for medicaid transport and they will show up at 7:30 and then leave. You will have no transportation to your morning doctors appointment! If they DO manage to get you from your house on time, they have leave you waiting at the doctors office after you're done for 2-3 hours! So if you haven't eaten because of your appointment, plan on having to call an ambulance while you wait for them because they will be the reason why someone passes out trying to get back home or to their next appointment! I used this service 4 times. Please note, taxi rates here are high. There is no meter, so ask the price before getting in. I was staying in the dorms at Stonybrook Southampton and fares to-from Main Street or LIRR ranged from $14-$16, depending upon the cab company. The first ride was fine. The driver was prompt and nice. I have arthritis in my knees and feet, so in vans I ask to sit in the front as I cannot get in the back. This driver did not hassle me about sitting in the front. The next two rides were horrendous. The drivers were rude - argumentative, in-your-face, demeaning, impatient, intolerant. One came in a 12-passenger van and gave me a hard time about sitting in front - he didn't want to move his crap. (I always ask politely and explain why.) Another man staying at the dorm said he also had a terrible time with this cab company. But then when I needed an early-morning ride and the company I set up with flaked out, they were the only ones who answered. Turned out I was riding with the night manager and a dispatcher. I relayed to them my bad experiences with those 2 drivers and they said it would be taken care of. I hope so. read more

AVOID this company if possible! This company was called to drive me to a pre-testing appointment before surgery at a New York City hospital They provide vehicles that are in very BAD condition. We started to break down on the RFK Bridge. The driver was a good driver and reported the problem to dispatch. After my tests were completed, we continued to stall at every light which was red at every block. It was a very hot Summer afternoon but we couldn't make the 50 + mile trip home. A half hour later one of their taxis picked me up leaving the driver to make his way in a broken down vehicle to a shop in Long Island City. The taxi smelled from auto air freshener. The chemicals make me physically sick. I fell asleep and woke up on the Long Island Expressway sliding off the seat along with my belongings when the driver had to apply his brakes hard. Worst cab company Ever... I had a pickup time 2 separate times where they were over 1.5 hours late... That was the good experience... Last night I was told 1 hour for my pickup after my MRI appt... they never showed up AND told me to find another way home because I got lost in their system and No one was coming for me... He said he was working on it so when I called back a half hour later, I was told they still didn't have a way home for me... after 2 hours of being cold in my seated walker, I finally called Uber... I am a Medicaid cab rider and really didn't have the money, but was so upset and just wanted to go home at that point because it was getting dark... Today, they just never showed up after 3 phone calls... My appointment for 2 back MRIs had to be rescheduled because they could not fit me in for both if I was late... Dishonest, unprofessional crook. Strong words? Yes but completely warrented. My grandmother gave them payment information via credit card before I was to be picked up from JFK. The driver, a female, met me where the taxis pick up passengers and then made me walk all the way to the parking garage across the freaking airport. Very unprofessional! I have never heard of a taxi company making the person walk so far to get to the ride. And she did not ask me what tip to give. She added on $80 for a $200 trip! $80! 80 for making me walk half way across the airport. It certainly felt that way carrying my dog after a long flight at 5:30 in the morning I was tired. Bad with Directions or Conniving Cheats... I just had the rudest, most conniving experience with a cab company in my life thanks to Hometown Taxi! This morning we called to get a quote on how much it would cost to pick up my niece from Southampton High School and take her to Stony Brook University to see her father graduate. The dispatcher quoted $60. Her father replied, "Ok Stony Brook University across form Stony Brook Hospital, for $60?" The dispatcher replied "Yes." We preceded to discuss directions to drop her off at the administration building. The dispatcher made it a point to note that if she was a minute late getting out of school he would not hesitate to leave her because it is Memorial Day Weekend. We obliged and she met the cab on time. Halfway through the trip, the cab driver has my niece call her dad to inform him that the cab ride is now $100 and that he will not complete the trip unless we agree to pay the fair. He said he thought she was going to the Stony Brook campus in Southampton. I called to clarify this confusion and was told that I had to speak to the dispatcher, only we were disconnected before he got on the line. When I called back, I first asked how much the fair is from Leland Lane (Southampton High School) to Tuckahoe Road (Southampton College) and the dispatcher replied $12. Since $12 does not sound like $60 I felt really confused and slighted. I then asked the dispatcher: "why when we called this morning we were quoted $60? if you only thought we were going to Southampton Stony Brook. The dispatcher said that he had said $16 and that we were not listening. However, the fact that he confirmed that he understood the address to be Stony Brook University across from Stony Brook Hospital (which is not in Southampton, but in Stony Brook) proves that he was not listening. Now even if such a $60/$16 miscommunication of Stony Brook University (Hospital)/Stony Brook Southampton campus were plausible, our biggest concern is that you wait till you drive the child away from the high school to inform her of the change in fair. Then you threaten to take her back to the High School where she has no one to pick her up--otherwise we wouldn't have called for a cab in the first place--if we refuse to comply. To me, that is a hostage situation; kidnapping a minor, and blatant extortion. This event is very important to our family. I understand that the summer season is here and perhaps you have richer clientele to cater to, but it is the locals who keep small companies like you in business year round. To be spoken to rudely and deliberately hung up on for trying to gain some understanding of what seemed to be a very suspicious situation shows your lack of consideration and extremely disgusting business ethics. read more

Taxi driver of this company swung into us and then stopped short while a light was turning yellow to red. Nearly caused an accident. Continued to swing into us even after honking horn to warn that we were in his blind spot. If this driver is like the others then this is a horrible company. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE IF YOU WANT TO GET SOMEWHERE IN A TIMELY MANNER!!! The previous review on this website must have been an anomaly... We called Hometown Taxi this past weekend for a trip from Bridgehampton to Southampton around noon on a Saturday and was told it would take them 15-20 minutes to get there..... 35 minutes later we called back and they said they would be there any minute.... 10 minutes later we called back and said it would be 7 minutes... 15 minutes later we called back and were hung up on! The taxi finally arrived..... smelly, dirty and rude driver to boot... the driver blamed the dispatcher, the dispatcher blamed the driver... We will never use Hometown again... if you want to get somewhere reliably and without catching some disease from their filthy cars, then I recommend using another service. I understand that one has to have patience while waiting for a taxi in the Hamptons in the summer... however, that does not justify lying from the dispatcher as to how soon we would get the pickup... if they were honest from the start, we would not have had an issue.... but apparently they are more interested in making a buck than in providing good service. This is a great car service. They provide service for locals and long distance. They have minivans, HUGE vans, and town cars. Their huge vans are great if you're coming out for the weekend and want to travel with your whole house to a club. They are very reliable on all calls especially airports. The staff is always friendly as well. Just remember in the summer HAVE patience!! Their phones ring off the hooks and they can't help how busy they are or the traffic. Patience is a virtue!! Also when getting off the Jitney, they try their best to accommodate everyone so be patient and wait. They always come back. It's also important to remember that traffic in unpredictable. A few times it has taken them awhile to get me, but the traffic in the hamptons is unbelievable and it's unpredictable how soon people will get out of the cars. It isn't like the city where there is a fleet of 100 cars at your disposal. I have used them for their airport/city service as well. VERY reliable, VERY friendly, Competitive prices. Great experiences, just be patient! They take reservations for locals as well I'd recommend this for the summer if you need to go somewhere. Be careful!! After 9pm, Hometown Taxi will promise to be at a certain place at a certain time, leave you waiting for 45 minutes, and when you call them for a status check, they'll claim to have shown up and ACCUSE YOU of not having been there when they arrived (complete and utter BS). Then you wait another 45 minutes while they send "another" driver (again, blaming the situation on the customer for "not having been waiting the first time"). This has happened to my wife and I twice, out of the four times we've used Hometown Taxi. There's nothing wrong with being busy on a Saturday night, but these guys are dishonest (lie about having shown up) and disorganized (can't seem to get on the same page with their drivers about pickup times and locations). To be fair, Hometown Taxi is basically a fine, reasonably reliable taxi service during off-peak hours (my wife and I have used them multiple times for rides in the early evening, with no problems). For anything after 9pm, use another service. read more

After getting ripped off by another taxi service in the Hamptons (which beware DOES happen often!), Hometown was recommended to me by my hotel as the only honest taxi service with an excellent reputation. They exceeded it. I needed a car at 4:40AM (that's right!) to pick me up with a bike--they arrived at 4:35. The driver, Allison, was so friendly and amazing. They also picked me up in the middle of nowhere after a bike race exactly on time and even waited with me until my train came! Great people. read more

Absolutely the worst can ride I've ever taken. A friend and I wanted to go from Sag Harbor to Southampton village, with a stop along the way. The ride to the village would have cost $30, but because we stopped, it was an additional $20, even though the stop was truly along the side of the road of the route we were taking already. I respect if the town requires you to charge per person, but when I called hometown cab to ask about the additional cost, they said they didn't have time to explain it to me, and then transferred me to a supervisor, who hung up on me when I asked her to hold on a moment so I could tell the driver where to turn. I have never experienced such rude behavior. I was just asking for an explanation for the high cost of the ride, and for what I deemed to be punishment for traveling with an additional passenger. I have used them for years- and while in the summer when up Island Taxi services swarm the area, charging insane fares, Hometown Taxi is constant and fair in their pricing. They never gouge clubgoers. It's the same price to the club as it is getting home inebriated. Beware of the others. They will size you up and demand exorbitant fares or you are told to go away. We look for yellow & white Hometown cars when we leave clubs because we know we won't be ripped off. Upset that they charged an extra $4 to make a 60 second stop at the local drive-thru ATM on the way home because I was $2 short my fare in cash at 1:30 in the morning. The stop was not out the way and was no longer than a stop-light. I was courteous enough to mention this upfront, as I could have just as well made them wait patiently when I got home to retrieve the extra 8 quarters out of my piggy bank. The driver didn't even call the stop in so most likely the $4 went straight into his pocket which is ridiculous when I would have gladly compensated him for his time and consideration. I do not think I will be using them again, which is a shame because the owner Bryan DePalma is actually a nice guy with a charitable heart. If only his employees could be more considerate of the locals which keep the company in business year-round. And do not even get me started on the way they treat the people in my neighborhood when it comes to pick-ups--a few times they tried to make me walk a mile to pick me up. My wife and I spent a weekend in the Hamptons and this taxi company was our only poor experience. We had 8PM reservations at a nice restaurant on a Saturday and we called to secure a cab for 7:15 as we didn't want to drink and drive. We were told the car would be outside in 15 minutes. We were already ready so we waited the entire time outside on the front deck. When 7:45 approached I called to get the status of the car and was told that the car was outside the house and no one was there so they left! The operator said she also called my cell phone and we did not answer. Both of these statements are false as there was no calls and we were waiting outside he whole time and ready. The dispatcher then said it will be another 45 minutes for a ride. I had this dinner reservation for two weeks and it was hard to get. I told the dispatcher that this can't be true as we were waiting and I didn't receive a call and was then hung up on. This woman was extremely rude and to be honest maybe her line of BS works on the younger fist pumping Bennys but I would tell any self respecting customer to avoid this taxi service like the plague.
