My room was very clean and bed was comfortable. The water pressure though is extremely poor. My BIGGEST concern is at breakfast time! There seems to be people who wander in to eat who are clearly not a hotel guest. I have witnessed this each time I stayed there. I witnessed a lady sitting in the breakfast area...I overheard her phone conversation..."hey come through the hotel lobby, just walk like you're staying here. They won't say a word to you". Sure enough, a lady walked right through the front lobby doors and nobody even noticed her. She went straight to the breakfast buffet and helped herself to the food. My biggest concern is safety. If nobody notices these people wandering in to eat the breakfast...what if they decide to wander up to the guest floors? Management please do something about this!!! This is unacceptable. read more

I picked this hotel because I've stayed in Homewood Suites by Hilton before and really liked my first experience. But this site is older and needs a lot of love and work to catch up with its newer branches. All in all, this place is OK. A star for parking: it's free, no parking pass needed, and we never struggled with finding a parking spot in the day or night. Another star for the breakfast buffet. The pork 'chorizo' surprised me - it looks more like carnitas and is decent. The scrambled eggs taste alright, too - not artificial. I restocked on the chorizo and added the pickled jalapeños to it. Angela is lively. The staff here are friendly, patient, and not rude at all. A star for its size. We had the one bedroom with 2 queens and I found there to be a lot of space in the bedroom and living room. The bathroom is also spacious. My listed concerns are why I won't return: - You can hear people talking at night. - We only had body wash filled in our shower. The shampoo and conditioner were empty. - The floor is uneven. I don't know why some parts of it seem warped so the floor isn't completely all flat at the same level. - While we had breakfast, my mom noticed there was a hole in the floor lol. You will find lots of things that are an eyesore and need a handyman to patch up. - The place needs a modern and up-to-date renovation. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

This hotel is a hidden gem in downtown area. We were incredibly impressed by the friendly and accommodating staff, especially the morning breakfast employee. Food was great - plentiful and fresh. We came for a one night stay while visiting Columbia SC. This hotel is really nice looking on the outside and inside, and you can tell it has been recently renovated. Nice art work in the hallway. The lobby has a nice bright and welcoming setting with a fireplace and some couches and a lounge area further back with a wall mounted TV. Front lobby has a small shop with snacks and drinks and other convenience items that is open late. This hotel has an indoor pool and hot tub but it was closed due to the hot water not working. We also noticed the first floor and second floor ice machines both had an out of order sign. Our room was nice but our only major complaint was that the sheets and mattress covers were dirty and stained. The mattresses also had some stains but when we called to ask for new sheets, they came up within 20 minutes and put new sheets on the bed, so we were satisfied with the quick response. There's a nice kitchenette with the cooktop that has two burners, OTC microwave, full size refrigerator and dishwasher. The 2 cup coffee maker was stocked with regular and decaf coffee and cream and sugar. The kitchen cabinets were stocked with dishes, cups and coffee mugs. However, the silverware lacked as there were only a couple of spoons but no forks and only one steak knife. There were a couple pots and pans but but no spatulas or cutting board. No other kitchen tools. The bathroom area was nice and clean. However, the stand in shower had a couple stains on the floor pan. Overall a decent hotel for a quick stay. read more

Rest of hotel including elevators are outdated, old and grossly disappointing!! We checked in late and brought some food up and got to our room and saw it was dirty. The microwave had someone else's food in it, disgusting floors were filthy and jacked up. We honestly wondered what was actually cleaned because clearly other parts of our room were not cleaned!! The front desk was kind enough to give us a new room, it did look better than previous one BUT makes you think. The night clerk chick never told the day manager about our disgusting room and clearly the day manager didn't care, she only pretended to!! We will NEVER stay here again and you shouldn't either!! After checking into the room, I have found 3 cockroaches in the room within a period of eight hours. Keep in mind that the room was on the fifth floor, not the first floor. On the bathroom floor beside the bathtub, there was an inch of human hairball. When I put the bath floor towel down, I discovered pubic hair in the middle of the towel. The bathtub also had a large round yellow stain about 4 inches in diameter. When I informed the front desk, the associate offered me to change the room and would take care of the bill for the previous night stay. She assured me that she would ensure that I wouldn't get charged for that night a few times. After moving into the new room, I found another pubic hair on the bath towel. There is another yellow stain at the corner of the bathtub against the wall. As usual, I took part of the free breakfast in the lobby. What a surprise! A few hours after breakfast, I had upset stomach and some constipation. I didn't partake the free breakfast the next day. After I checked out the room, I received the bill without taking off the first night's charge. Lastly, I never got recognized (which is usually a standard protocol in the Hilton chain) as a diamond member. And didn't get a complimentary snack or bottle of water. Absolutely horrendous location and customer service. My parents booked a room here to see my brother graduate from the army. After traveling all day, my parents arrived at this location in the late evening. Before traveling we called this location multiple times to ensure they accepted my parent's visa and a room was available for them. Upon arrival the lady onsite told my parents they didn't accept that type of visa debit card and essentially told them to walk down the street to find a place to stay. My parents navigated their way to get to a place after we called another hotel. It's absolutely insanity to me that someone would have the audacity to simply say sorry your money (card) won't work here, have a nice evening. Then had the audacity to charge our visa for the first night became they didn't show up! How does that make any sense! Take your money elsewhere because this Hilton doesn't live up to the name on the building. read more

We walked into the hotel, which was not listed as being renovated. The hotel staff was friendly upon check in. Walking up to our room, we noticed the door was already opened for us so obviously no need for a key to check in. After entering the room, a strong scent of curry lingered as if someone had just cooked. Making sure the coast was clear, we walked around the room and then proceeded to close and lock the door. Soon after, a stampede of children started running up and down the hallway. Children will be children. The shower was warm, but covered in makeup stains from the floor to the ceiling. To top off the night, the A/C unit in our room runs the first of every hour. The unit alone sounds like an old engine starting up: LOUD. I cannot say that this was a pleasant experience. read more

The room was nice, the pool was nice except there were teenage boys in the pool area with no supervision, horseplaying jumping into the pool with shoes and socks on, scream and making it generally uncomfortable. In the morning the fire alarms went off. We grabbed our kids and went downstairs and outside. No one ever came to say it was a false alarm or it was clear to come inside. I went around to the front desk and the staff was leaning against the counter talking. We went down to breakfast and 8:45 am, which said there was breakfast until 10 and there was nothing except some smoked sausage in water. No bread, no oatmeal, litterally nothing left. We checked out and left, no one asked how the stay was or anything. We are Hilton honors members and this was the worst staffing we've encountered. read more

I like staying in Homewood Suites, generally. The trade-off is usually that they aren't the most centrally-located option (in a downtown area) but in terms of other amenities they are often worth it. This location was no exception. My main criteria for selecting it vs. some hotels in the heart of downtown were: * Non-valet / free parking * Free breakfast * Large rooms (Had we stayed on a weekday, there is also the free happy hour, which is nice; sadly we were there on a Saturday.) Though the location here is amongst car dealerships, it is only about a 5-minute drive to the center of downtown. That (plus finding parking) was a small inconvenience vs. the added costs (and inconveniences) of staying closer in. As far as amenities specific to this hotel, we had no real complaints. I thought the layout was a bit odd; the elevator was down at one end of a long hallway at one extreme end of the building. I'm assuming there was another elevator at the opposite end (I hope so, or you could have a long walk). Things seemed generally cleaned and decently maintained. Our room was nice (and spacious). No issues with noise or temperature. We were only there one night so we didn't have time to take advantage of the small kitchen (I think we did use the refrigerator for keeping some dinner leftovers cold overnight). If you are in the area, this place is a good choice. read more

Homewood Suites are generally one of my favorite hotels to stay at; they are usually quiet, clean, and the separate living and sleeping areas really help, especially for a longer stay. This homewood met all these criteria, and is within walking distance to the zoo, if you wanted to go. I will definitely stay here the next time I'm in Columbia. read more

Horrible stay: Air Conditioner compressor was going out and was extremely loud. Requested several times for maintenance to fix it.. several hours later he came up and said he would fix it. He never returned. Could not sleep most of the night due to the noise and vibrations of the floor. Second day requested again for repair. Front desk said he came and fixed it while we were gone only to return to it still being broken and an added bonus of a running toilet and a musty damp smell due to the A/C not being repaired. read more

This Homewood Suites is a very nice place, and the staff too. They were in my room checking the AC when I arrived, as it had been not working. They called to check a couple of times to ensure it was working, which I really appreciated. They called a cab for me for dinner, too! The bed and linens were comfy, and the living space was very adequate. The kitchenette was clean and the fridge cold. I liked the flat screen TV and the fact that it swiveled 90 degrees so I could watch while in bed. An ethernet cable got me online to work for a while. The hot breakfast was good the next morning and check out was a breeze. This location is about 10 minutes from downtown Columbia. I will definitely stay here again, and I heartily recommend it! read more

I stayed in this hotel because I had a business meeting the next day and because I needed a roll-in shower with grab bars. I expected to pay a higher rate, so I don't have a problem with that. Actually, I do, but I knew about it in advance. I didn't know I would charged for parking, and I didn't find that out until I was checking in. When I got to the room, there wasn't a hair dryer. I called guest services and got a busy signal. I tried again later and got another busy signal. I kept trying until I realized that the phone must be off the hook. There were stains on the sheets, so I didn't feel good about sleeping on them, but since no one was answering the phone in guest services I realized I was stuck for the night. I told the person at the desk when I was leaving about my issues. It looked like she was making a note, but I really wasn't satisfied. As I walked away, she chirped "Have a nice day." I guess saying "have a nice day" is Hilton's version of customer service. read more

I want to like this hotel because it has great staff, a decent location, is reasonably priced, and has plenty of amenities, but I just can't recommend it. The main issue is that the whole property is very dated, everything from the rooms to the parking lot. Furthermore, the room I received (501) was very worn and beat up. Some examples: -The door to the closet was missing. -Lights were burnt out -The drawers slid poorly -Knicks, scratches, and peeling paint everywhere. -Worn couch However, while this isn't really of the standard I'd expect from a Hilton property, especially a higher end one like Homewood Suites, I could live with it. I've said it before and I'll say it again, old but clean beats new but dirty in my book. Looking around I didn't spot any cleanliness issues, so I'd say 3 stars, so what got this hotel down to two stars might you ask? The shower, it was a very unpleasant experience. It was dark, dingy, and the shower curtain rod was coming off the wall. It also did this super annoying thing where the drain was messed up so water pooled around your ankles while you showered. Again, not up to Hilton standards, but I can always work with clean. However halfway through my shower something caught my eye and I looked down to find little splotches of black mold dotted on the shower curtain. Mold in a room is something that an Econolodge or Super 8 can't get away with in my book, much less a Homewood Suites. I will say I did bring it up to the staff and they handled it very well. In summary, this hotel was once probably pretty nice and then just got neglected and is screaming for a renovation. Quite frankly, other than maintenance, I feel bad for the staff as they seem to be trying to run a good hotel despite the fact that the property is in dire need of maintenance and really a renovation! read more

My family and I traveled to South Carolina to attend my nephew graduation from Army Basic Training. We chose this hotel because me and my family just stayed in this establishment located in Orland Park, Illinois for the Christmas weekend and had an amazing experience. I have to write a review about our experience because the difference was like night and day. When we first arrived it was late evening around 7pm and our rooms should have been ready. The hotel main elevator was broken so we had to use the back elevator and our room was at the front. The elevator stayed out of service our entire stay. The ice machine on each floor was out of service as well. When we get to the room the sofa sleeper had no linen and there were no extra pillows or blankets anywhere. When we tried to call to the front desk we were told we had to come get them. We were unable to get anything to our room not even clean towels or tissue there was no room service what so ever. I'm thinking it may have had something to do with the distance they would have to walk due to the elevator being down but had no problem with making their guest do the task. Forgot to mention that the bathroom was not clean at all especially the floor. If this is a franchise y'all have to do better but if this is suppose to be representation of the Hilton Hotels they really should be ashamed and work on providing better service to consumers. I personally will never select this hotel name unless I'm sure they all provide the same quality service and experience. read more

All the staff we encountered were super friendly and engaging; I truly felt like a guest during my stay here. We had an issue with our room and the Assistant General Manager, Gary Fultz, went above and beyond to ensure that we were taken care of. I really appreciate the wonderful customer service! PROS: - They offer a complimentary dinner Monday through Thursday. It's not something you would get in a restaurant but their "Asian Express" was tasty and satisfying. We were grateful because dining out can quickly get expensive! - Great customer service CONS: - The furniture is outdated and worn looking, especially the couches in the rooms and the lobby. - There's no restaurant in this hotel. - I didn't love the breakfast and I was bummed to see styrofoam plates and plastic utensils. This is my pre-review for the Homewood Suites. I would like to start off by saying that I have had such an amazing experience with this hotel in the booking process that I have made the personal decision to move all of my business in the Columbia area to this specific location. In particular, I was completely blown away by the courteousness, attention to detail and overall experience that I had with a young lady by the name of Nataki Ford. A quick rundown of my situation: I'm coming into town on business, looking for a specific room type: King Jacuzzi Suite, but there were no details on if the room included a full bath. I told her that I found another hotel that had a full bath, still of the Hilton brand, that I was considering while on the phone with her. She then went on to offer to provide the contact information to that hotel and expressed that while she would love to have my business at her location, she was committed to my experience and having all of the accommodations that I needed, even if that meant that my business would be going elsewhere. But what really took the cake is what she did next... She asked to place me on a brief hold, and she went to physically checked to see if there was a full bathroom after being transparent in saying that she wasn't sure. Needless to say, after such selfless, customer driven support from Ms. Ford, I was beyond willing to spend my money with this hotel. I will be adding a supplementary review post-visit, but I am extremely excited about my forthcoming stay, and fully endorse this location and the amazing staff that they have! read more

I've always been a fan of Homewood, so I chose this one for my trip to Columbia. Overall, it met my expectations. The meals are underseasoned most of the time, but generally good and satisfying. I think they intentionally make some of the food bland so as to avoid complaints about seasoning. The staff was uniformly friendly and helpful. Two downsides: first, when I arrived, I waited at the desk for about 5 minutes before anyone showed up. Perhaps they are lightly staffed in the evenings. Still, 5 minutes isn't a major deal, and when the man did arrive he was friendly. The other issue was I was put in a room that was both alongside the fitness room and abutted one of the heating pumps for the entire hotel. There was a constant hum that made it impossible to sleep. They did move me the next day, but honestly they should not even rent out that room. They should use it as storage or something. Or at least soundproof it better. read more

"Excellent stay, best choice for families, great breakfast!" Reviewed October 30, 2011 I was lucky enough to enjoy 10 days at this hotel at the $85 military rate with my family as we prepared for a move to Tennessee. Although this location is not the best choice in terms of convenience to Fort Jackson, it was worth the commute as the amenities of the hotel were well worth it. It is however conveniently located to the downtown area with plenty of food choices nearby. To be candid, the area is not unsafe but if I could move that hotel to the Sandhill area I would. Homewood Suites are, in my opinion, designed with families in mind. Our suite consisted of a double queen bed room, with a separate living room/full kitchen room. This worked out great for our extended stay. The hotel offers free service grocery shopping for your convenience as well (although I have always gone myself). The hotel is not new but is well maintained and clean. The customer service was excellent. We were greeted with enthusiasm and professionalism. My family definitely enjoyed the breakfast in the morning. It was plentiful and full regardless of what time you arrived for breakfast. Always enjoy the breakfast at all Homewood Suites! It was very quiet. We never heard any noise from other guests nor did we hear any slamming doors etc... The beds/pillows weren't the best in the world just average...pillows were too soft. One improvement would be to have an ATM located in the hotel itself. The laundry costs $2.00 per load and only accepts quarters, the front desk does keep enough of them on hand but having an ATM there would make it easier. We realized how much it costs and didn't have enough cash on hand. Had to drive out to an ATM for money. The swimming pool temperature was Freezing! I only took the kids down once and it was way too cold for any human being to swim. In their defense I never did report it, I just felt someone ought to be checking the levels daily. The gym is very small. I was informed that the hotel has a partnership with a local gym at which their guests get to enjoy at no additional cost. Again, it is better when you are able to enjoy everything with convenience i.e. at the hotel itself. The gym only has enough size for two treadmills and one elliptical (very tight fit). Also, it would be nice to have some coffee available other than at breakfast. The coffee in the rooms made 2 cups and we ended up buying our creamer. Most hotels we stay in have complimentary coffee almost 24/7. WIth all being said, it was the best choice for my family and our needs since we needed to stay somewhere for 10 days. If you are military family PCS'ing in our out and need to take advantage of 10 days PTDY or TLE this place is a great bargain since it is spacious and offers the room/kitchen/living room suite, free breakfast, and all for $85 dollars a night. So disgusting! Pulled back the bedding to see blood stains on the mattress pad. Called the front desk to ask for new everything and didn't even get an apology. If it wasn't almost midnight and I have three kids I would leave! Got the second set of sheets and the flat sheet had what looked like vomit on it. Seriously! And I love the Neutrogena light sesame lotion...mmmmm! Dinner was good, breakfast was good. Thought it was funny that one of the guys sitting next to me at dinner said "that's a Vera Bradley bag, isn't it?" Yes, sir, you are correct! Guess he was in the market for one for the women in his family recently. After all, it was the week of Christmas. In all fairness, I hate dust. No really, borderline compulsive disorder about dust, and the room I'm in has dusty floors. But, breakfast and dinner...they make up for it. Kinda. Disappointed. The area is not that bad - could be worse. The look from the outside isn't bad either. But it just needs some help with presentation. Feels junky in the lobby. Took a few minutes for anyone to come out to the desk. My room was "upgraded" but it was a smoking room. I should have said something but I didn't-I wasn't really thinking. But once I was in the room I was grossed out by the smell. Then I discovered that it wasn't very clean at all. There was stuff left in the fridge, a notepad with writing on it, open bar of soap on the soap dish in the shower. The bed seemed clean but I wasn't totally confident at that point. It was quiet in the room but just not cozy and didn't feel luxurious at all. They put a $50 hold on your card for incidentals which is also annoying. I stayed here all of last week and I'm currently staying here this week. In my prior room there were minor issues with the cleanliness and the refrigerator did not work at all. In my second week staying here, again there are minor cleanliness issues but also maintenance issues. The carpet is torn as are the curtains. The plumbing is the loudest I've heard. The websites state that they have a hot tub...when they do not. They have (what they call) is a soaking tub which has no Jets. During breakfast, there was actually a homeless person grabbing mass amounts of food from the buffet. During our check-in last night we had to go searching for the front desk attendant, who much like other yelp people have reviewed, was hiding in a cubby to the side playing on her phone. For the prices they are charging I highly recommend you avoid this hotel. I asked for the name of the manager from the front desk last night and I was told who they were but was also told it was a waste of time to contact her because they would do nothing for me. read more

We stayed for a week and it was such a delight to see their smiling faces everyday. The rooms were nice, comfortable and perfect for our small family of 4. The pool and hot tub were nice, though the hot tub had no way to turn the jets on which was a little disappointing but we survived. Would recommend this place to anyone with a family. read more

Absolutely having a great stay! I have been living at this hotel for just over 2 months now and will bee here for another 2 months, for work. I wanted to write a review now so that anyone looking for a great hotel with wonderful staff, this is it. I agree that it is a little out dated with the furniture, but they are planning a remodel soon because it is under new ownership. But that is not an issue with me, customer service, Housekeeping and the 4 nights of food and wine is. Mondays is a social night with cheeses, salad and snacks with wine and beer which is great after a long day at work. Every other night is a actual dinner which is always pretty good. The kitchen staff led by a wonderful manager Sandra, is always so friendly and go out of their way to get what ever you need. Housekeeping is always good as well, especially when Imani does my room, she leaves it so clean and she has a wonderful personality. Reception desk and customer service is one of the best I have ever had. They go out of there're way to help in any way possible. I look forward to continuing my stay here and would come back here again if ever sent to Columbia, SC in the future. read more

Just travelled 9 hrs for my daughter's move in day at USC and checked into the hotel I had booked (Carolina university inn-- a complete dump).. So because of move in day and a word of God convention in town, other hotels were booked. I kept calling ,because If we hadn't gotten another room, I'd have slept in my car, And got a hold of Howard French..aka my hero!! He had a 2 queen suite available, I'm a HH member so check in was a breeze! Mr. French was beyond courteous, friendly and helpful!! I am a Diamond member and spent probably 3 months a year in a Hilton property hotel. This is by far the worst experience I ever had. The front desk staff is rude, entitled and unhelpful. Location is excellent. Rooms were clean and comfortable. This is the new go to hotel to stay at when traveling. Kitchen offers a refrigerator, small surface unit, microwave, a few pots and pans, dished and utensils. Hotel offers free breakfast in the mornings. There is a dinner menu on the refrigerator for guest Monday thru Thursday. Staff was so engaging, they want you to feel at home. read more

After one night, I can say that I absolutely adore this hotel. Plenty of space for the wife and two kids, complementary dinner and breakfast, free wired Internet (wireless would be prefect but....), indoor pool, clean, friendly....I could live here! read more
