Walked in specifically looking for a recliner. It has to be on the smaller side, manual and not a rocking chair. Elijah approached us and immediately showed us two chairs. My mother in law sat in both of them and liked the second one. We put it on hold to make to check other furniture stores. We went to a store down the street and they were closed even tho it said they were open, the next one didn't have a smaller chair. We went back the next day to purchase the chair. The ladies at the front assisted us and it was the most easiest and fastest furniture purchase we made. The price was also very good! As a general rule I try to make major purchases from local merchants whenever possible, using national chains only as a last resort. But my experience at Homeworld caused me to buy the new desk chair I desperately needed from Office Depot. They had nothing appropriate in stock, but the very pleasant salesman suggested I check their website. Fine. And I did find a suitable chair online for $369 -- a bit more than I was hoping to pay, but okay. The chair I wanted didn't seem to be in stock in Hilo, but could be sent over from Oahu, but since the wording on the site was a bit unclear, I called. Yes, they could ship the chair from Oahu for an additional $150 -- not delivery to my home, just to send it to the Hilo store. No, they couldn't tell me when it would arrive, probably a couple months. Oh, and they wanted the entire payment up front -- not a deposit, the whole $500+ plus tax. For a chair I'd never seen or touched and whose delivery date they couldn't even reliably approximate. I'd been ready to pull the trigger up till that point, but when I suggested just putting down a deposit equal to the shipping charge, they wouldn't budge. I was shocked, as I've had other furniture stores in Hilo order larger items without even a deposit. So I headed to the nearby Office Depot. They had a perfectly nice chair roughly similar to Homeworld's, and going on sale Monday for $299. They had it in stock in a choice of 3 colors. No wait, no shipping charge. I just walk in, give them $299 plus tax and walk out with my chair right then. Sold. Sorry, Homeworld. I really tried to give you my business. read more

HomeWorld Hilo has the worst customer service and employees that have no idea what they are doing. I went in to purchase a living room set, was not greeted nor assisted. I should've known right there not to make a purchase or ever come back but giving the store a chance I went through with a purchase of a leather sectional, tv stand, coffee and end table. The delivery went alright so I went back to purchase my dining room set a couple months later. The person helping me rang up one chair, one bench, and the table. Gave me the price with the protection plan. I go over the paperwork and ask why there is only 1 chair... add $1200 plus more for the protection... the set comes. The bench is damaged. Still haven't received a replacement. This is where I should known for sure never to go back. It just gets worse. Went back a couple weeks later to purchase a bed. Purchased a split king. The employee told us it was 1 prices for the base. The delivery came well guess what? We have one bed on a base and one bed on the floor.... $2800 later. We have to pay for another base. The employee says he will schedule for the next available time which is suppose to be this Saturday. I call because I haven't received an estimated time for Saturday and another employ tells me it's scheduled for the next Saturday not this Saturday as promised. I am beyond upset. When I spoke to the manager regarding her 2 different employees mess ups she says there's nothing she can do but if we want to buy something else she can give us a small discount. I would not recommend this place. You will not be treated like a valued customer. read more

Went here needing a new bed, but was worried that I wouldn't find anything of decent quality that was affordable or reasonably priced. However, I discovered that Janel was so helpful that she really made it work. She showed me different options, answered my questions, and went the extra mile by making a phone call and doing some inventory research to help me get the best deal possible. It turns out that the mattress I chose was comparably priced to another store that had a single $, but that store didn't have the frame or headboard I wanted. SlumberWorld/HomeWorld had all the pieces, with delivery and haul away services available too. One stop shopping (one delivery price) made sense. The process isn't completely over yet, since there's a two week wait due to shipping (if you think you'll need furniture, plan ahead), but I have faith that the process will go smoothly. If it doesn't, I know I'll have stellar customer service to back me up. read more

The most horrible horrible horrible customer service. You go in and no one comes to help until you've been there for a while. I did buy a sofa from them which I am pleased with but never would I buy from them again because of poor customer service. Waited 8 months for the sofa to come in (most of their stuff you have to wait months to order). Scheduled the delivery only to be told the day before delivery oops the salesman did not schedule it. So had to wait a few more days after waiting 8 months. Paperwork got screwed up too. I don't know what's wrong with them. Plus you have to pay for delivery. My fiancé and I were in need of a bedroom set and went looking the weekend before Black Friday. We wanted to make sure we were getting the best deal (ensuring there were not going to be a better price the next weekend or a better set somewhere else). We hit all the furniture stores in Hilo (which is not that many) and found a set we wanted. Personally, I don't like the sales people all in my business when I'm looking around, so not having been asked every 5 seconds if we're doing okay or need help was perfect for me. The man that initially came up to us upon entering the store was Tono, we went and found him when we knew what we wanted. My fiancé was very admit about getting the lowest price and Tono ensured us that it was; and if it went lower in price, he would make sure we got the difference back. From the set we wanted, the chest drawers were at another store down the street, we drove back to check the price and HomeWorld's was a couple hundred less. Delivery was smooth and totally worth it (since everything was going to the second floor). The reviews were so bad, we questioned coming here, but I'm glad we did. Just set in one of the pricey massage chairs when you visit and test it out; trip will be worth it whether you buy something or not! read more

Our first order was in 2021 for two lazy boy chairs. There were 2 on the floor, but they wouldn't sell them, they were samples. We were told that the ones we wanted were already coming to the store in 8 weeks. So we purchased two of the six the were coming. Two weeks later we stopped in to re measure the chairs but they were gone! I was told they sold them!!!! Was it because we were two men, white, new island residents, what? We were charged a deposit at order. A week before our delivery date I called and was told they were in Kona being unpacked. A few days before our confirmed delivery I called and was told they couldn't find our chairs! A week passed I called again. Our sales guy had no idea where the chairs went but there were more coming in 4 weeks. This went on for 7 months. We were told we were getting an extra 15% off for the problems. When the chairs finally arrived we got no discount and no one could reach our sales person. In 2022 we need two new lazy boy recliners and since this place is the only place we could get them, had to go back. Again our two chairs were already coming as regular stock, 12 of them. We had to pay all up front as these were stock items, not special order. Our delivery date was September 26- October 1. I called September 16 for a update. Now I'm told, after 3 calls, October 31! I understand delivery here, but after our first mess with this company, I have no idea when they will arrive. The sales lady doesn't return calls as promised, she messed up or pricing twice and still hasn't fixed it. JUST TELL THE TRUTH! If I could get these chairs anywhere where else I would. They have terrible customer service, and simply misled and are not truthful. Buy elsewhere or just do without. read more

I had ordered a bed to be delivered to our new home when we arrived at our home in Hawaiian Rec. Shores. I originally had been dealing with Kelly but she resigned and rather than my order being lost, Daryl picked up the ball and made the delivery as needed. In fact, as we flew in we stopped at some of the stores looking for a sofa and other pieces of furniture and while the selection is limited in Hawaii we found a nice area rug, coffee table, and sofa at Homeworld that we added to our order. Daryl and I think it was Geri assisted us and were able to add the other items to our scheduled delivery so we could decorate our home. Terrible! On Wednesday 11/29/17 walked into the store with the intention to purchase a couch (up to 3k). Walked in. No greeting. Walked around the whole store. No help. One woman in the middle of the store was on her computer said hello without looking up from her monitor. I walked the entire store and no sales person even approached me. I'd highly recommend going to Slumber World! Chris, the bedding specialist, who assisted me was wonderful. He was informative and helpful. I was relieved, because even when I was asking questions about models above my price point, he didn't try to up-sell at all. He asked questions about the size of my room when I was thinking about buying a bigger bed than I originally said. Great selection of furniture and very helpful staff. They let us get hands on with everything we were interested in and were able to answer all of our questions just perfectly. The environment was welcoming and the staff never seemed pushy, just really helpful. The couch we decided on had just come in to Kona and still had to be shipped to the Hilo location before it could be delivered to our house. Keoni was great and kept us informed every step of the way as we waited in anticipation of our new couch (which we love).
