The bed frame ended up breaking on one side, the support beam on the inside of the frame. My bf put his knee down, with the mattress on top, on that side of the frame and the support beam broke and split in two. come to find out, this support beam already had a small split in it. So my boyfriend had to fix that. And not too long ago, a piece of one of the dining chairs came off. Would not waste your money here, find higher quality furniture elsewhere.

We have purchased many pieces of furniture, plants, art and decor from Paradise Plants over the years. Objectively speaking we have come to realize over time that our purchases from Paradise Plants were all superior in quality and often times the same price as the pieces we bought from other stores both on-island and the ones we had shipped to the island that were far inferior in look and build quality. We purchased some pretty beds from Home World. They look great, however they are very cheaply made and we have had to rebuild all of the internal parts to make them stronger as they all broke in the first year. This was a great expense. Home World sells particle board junk. We noticed the beds we purchased from Paradise Pants had solid aluminum supports instead of cheap particle board. They are all super sturdy and look amazing and were the same price as the Home World particle board junk. Paradise Plants sells quality, unique, indoor furniture at excellent prices. Bamboo and Teak down the road is also good, but mostly used stuff so a bit like shopping at a garage sale, but sometimes you get lucky. Paradise Plants has new, gorgeous pieces every time we go in all at a good price. They also have an excellent outdoor furniture brand called Lagoon that is perfect for the environment here on the island. So far, It's the only outdoor furniture that has survived at our salty oceanfront locations and our corrosive Volcano location. That brand of outdoor furniture is Puna proof! It has no steel to get rusty and is all strong durable plastics and/or non-corroding aluminum. Very happy with quality and price as none of these end up in a landfill after 1-2 years like every other brand we tried. From price, quality/longevity, beauty of pieces, to their excellent customer service and ability to deliver and setup all pieces and have a great customer experience, you won't find a better store that is locally owned and operated employing great local people.

We went to a store down the street and they were closed even tho it said they were open, the next one didn't have a smaller chair. We went back the next day to purchase the chair. As of a few hours ago, I have taken delivery of a bed that was custom-made as a result of thorough collaboration with owner/craftsman Vince Wilson, and I could not be more pleased. I asked for a platform bed in which the mattress platform was 25" above floor level, with drawers beneath that extended the entire width of the bed (which supports a Twin XL mattress). That represents around 45 cubic feet of storage space, a massive amount and so important in island living situations where there is often much less square footage than I, at least, have ever had in other places I've lived on the mainland. (Not a complaint! I would pay almost any price to live in my favorite place on the planet!) Due to the unusual nature of the request, it took some time to get it done, but it was done right. I fully expect that this oh-so-worth-it investment will be one I will enjoy for many years to come. Cannot recommend Big Island Beds highly enough.

I have been looking at what's online (cause that's how we show now days), but furniture is so hard to purchase online, especially in Hawaii because shipping and returns are a nightmare for large/heavy products. I was close to taking a gamble on some couches or recliners, but I was very hesitant. I passed by BedMart on my way to work a few times and saw they had a "furniture sale" banner hung up recently. I decided to call my girlfriend and take a stroll through as she too is looking for new furniture to fill her new apartment. Our experience: We went in at around 6:15pm on a Monday evening, not expecting much cause we've gone to other furniture stores when we were back on O'ahu. Nothing negative to say about other stores, but prices are very high, not to mention I have a Toyota Corolla. Not much will fit in my car so delivery costs were another added expense. BUT, as soon as we get into BedMart here in Hilo, it was a surprise to get a very different experience that we have been used to. CHRIS, welcomed us with nothing but positive vibes and great stories to share about his experience with both the beds and other furniture in the store. He was very straight forward about each item we were interested in and he wasn't trying to necessarily "make a sale," he was just talking stories with us about the different items we looked at and tested out. I love this approach as I didn't feel pressured or rushed to try anything or buy anything. He was a great resource of information and very friendly to talk to about our furniture needs and questions. Needless to say, after lots of furniture sampling and friendly chat, my girlfriend found a recliner she absolutely loved and I found a couch I couldn't leave the store without. This was my first time ever finding this quaint little fabric shop and I'm so thrilled that I did!!…read moreShe has a number of different Japanese and Asian printed fabrics that were from Japan as well as some beautiful handmade garments within a futon shop! The lady was very cute and Personable as I bought the fabric from her, I saw all her sewing equipment towards the back. It turns out she had actually been to San Jose's Japantown before the Japanese store, Nichi Bei Bussan! I was very surprised at her wide selection of Japanese and Asian fabrics and they weren't too expensive either. They were anywhere from $14 a yard to $18 a yard! She did get them directly from Japan and I'm pretty sure she had a similar vendor as Nichi Bei Bussan, quite literally quadrupled in sections!! I also liked how everything was organized. She had a section for fabrics with dragons, children's prints, flowers/floral prints, traditional Japanese dots, and then another section with different thicker fabrics. I was in a bit of a rush so I didn't get to check out everything, as my teenage son was waiting out in the air condition. Lol. Nevertheless, I was able to get some very authentic Japanese fabrics and I can't wait to make something with them! She also told me that she's starting a new website besides her futon store she's going to have another website coming up and I took a picture of her page in my pictures Below. I'm really happy. I found a fabric shop in downtown Hilo just on the outskirts of the farmers market but completely walking distance!!

The last time I was there, just before the first COVID-19 shutdown, I sat down on a bench with a futon mattress. The bench was beautiful and the mattress was so comfortable. I really wanted to lie down but knew if I did I'd miss my flight. It's a great place for larger or smaller gifts for others - or for yourself. But the big test came recently. I really, really need to get rid of my 18 year old innerspring mattress. It was now too hard for me and worn out and I'd wake up with terrible shoulder, back, and hip pain. My knees are already trashed and the old mattress made things worse. I called and ordered a 4" New Zealand wool futon mattress. (Three inches of filling is standard, but you can add more.) Including shipping to Honolulu, the price was certainly in line with what a standard mattress would have cost. There was a bit of a backlog because demand was high. The mattress was really well-protected and arrived without a blemish. I'd kept my old box spring and put the futon mattress on it. I put on a mattress protector before putting on the sheets. It's really difficult to find sheets that are small enough for a 4" mattress, but I made it work. The first night I didn't sleep well only because I was so freaked out that after buying the new mattress I wouldn't sleep any better. Fortunately I was wrong. By the second night my sleep was much better. I woke with almost no pain in my shoulders or back. Less pain in my knees and right hip. (My knees hurt because of severe arthritis and my right hip hurts indirectly because of the arthritis.) I'm so glad I was able to get this futon mattress from Dragon Mama.
