Love the fresh salsa. There are many options including thick and chunky, blended tomatoes and spices, cantina style, tomatillo salsa, pico de gallo, all come hot or mild. I also just love the pickled onions, their fresh guacamole, and their tortilla chips. They have great selection of fresh produce, priced reasonably. I usually stock up on my bottled sauces as well as fresh tortillas, both corn and flour. With my last visit, I also purchased ready to cook beef Asada, chili, lime, chicken, and marinated lemon pepper chicken. It helps with convenience. The produce section is well stocked with items that actually look super fresh. Don't leave without grabbing containers of house made salsa and tortilla chips. I buy flour tortillas in bulk and freeze them for later use. They are on a different level than the brands you find in chain grocery stores. They lack that disgusting preservative-heavy flavor that's meant to allow products sit on shelves for months. read more

I have been coming here since I was a little girl. The tamales, chorizo, and chips & salsa are my go to purchases. If you need other groceries you can find them here too. Whenever I visit home, Honey Bee is always on my list of stops. Service is friendly too. Oh and the piñata selection is decent. Lol. read more

PROS: Wow! A great selection of most anything Latino. Exceptional produce and sauces. One of the best hot food counters (if not the best) in the area. The store is more symmetrical, more open and easily traversed than other supermercados in the area. Super friendly staff. A dozen hand-made tamales for $12.99 was an outstanding value (for comparison, a Mexican restaurant near my home charges close to $30 for a dozen tamales to go). Decent parking lot. CONS: Located on the other side of the tracks from the Vernor Ave main drag, so it's not really built into the neighborhood. Felt like I was in the outskirts of the action. Much more urban blight surrounding the store. SUMMARY: Great store. Can't go wrong shopping here. The hot food counter and tamales stood out from other stores in the area. read more

Best chips in town and they are THE tortilla plug, whichever local brand you're loyal to, they've got it. Produce is fresh, extensive meat market. Dry goods - including beans and chilies that you can't find anywhere else. Best avocados in town. Hidden gem of a hot bar with prepared food - switches up daily. Fresh tamales and enchiladas. Love to grab a pan of enchiladas, pop in the oven while I'm putting away groceries from the weekend stock up, and serve for lunch with their house made salsas and pico. read more

Some of the people they hire to work the takeout counter... words fail me but they obviously do no training and turnover is high. They have posole, a hominy stew, on Fridays. First hint of a problem was when the woman was fishing around with a ladle for the right balance of hominy and meat. Jeez already, Just scoop it up and put it in the cup, job done. One woman told me she couldn't scoop it from the bottom because giving away too much hominy would, I don't know, come out of her pocket or something. Do you know how cheap hominy is? One guy who was cool told me "she's not my boss." Today was the worst, the girl was putting extra effort into making sure I got nothing but broth, I tried to tell her I wanted some hominy, or lacking that at least a balance and I finally told her to forget it and she continued to bag it and price it and hand it to me. I hadn't seen her there before and I won't see her again as these people select themselves out but if they put any effort into screening the new hires there'd be no problem. read more

Great little market right near one of the major bridge crossings. Our team was famished by 1pm so two of us went out in search of sustenance. This place was highly recommended and I saw the sign for tamales outside (always draws me in!) My coworkers and I shared a bag of tamales and everyone was pleased. I think it was a dozen or so for $13..masa had the right texture and thethey steamed easily in the industrial microwave. Will come here again when in the area! Well as you can see I come here for my mangos. I know they serve food here which is great but when you are down here by Southwest Detroit there are too many taco trucks to explore. This grocery store is fast for any food thoughts that you might have. For us it's fast and convenient just around the corner. We like that fact that it's here, we just think it should be open until 9:00 pm. We like it more because the management themselves like what they do. That is providing a good sense of their latest product and provide a very good happy medium. The customers here always feel safe when we come around good feelings here for being in the neighborhood. We love to shop here especially in environment that is not stressful. Which at times it s hard to find in a grocery store. That is all. Recently moved here. I am Mex-Am and we lived in Chicago for a while. This is where we go for our produce and our Mexican ingredients. Fresh produce, nice selection of tortillas, and the hot food is pretty decent, not epic but good. I like the pozole when available and I will sometimes get the rice and frijoles as well as the guacamole and dress it up a bit when i get it home. Nice selection of Mexican cheeses and dairy. It's not particularly big but its comfortable place to shop and the prices are reasonable. It's clean and well organized and shelves are usually well stocked. Staff is pretty helpful and nice. It is becoming a go to place to shop. read more

I've been a Homey Bee customer for decades, I walk to the store regularly. I have 3 Airbnbs & I send my guests to Honey Bee. I know employees by name & we share stories. Well yesterday that all came to an end when I tried to return a quart of half & half, it had 5 more days until the expiration date & it had curdled. Lindsay was very rude towards me & did not want to give me a refund because I did not have a receipt. Finally she begrudgingly gave me a store credit. That is a horrible way to treat a customer who has been shopping in your store for decades. Maybe the newer of the super-mercados in the area and likely catering to Corktowners more than Mexicantown residents but it was much easier to navigate with a lot less foot traffic on the aisles. The produce was beautiful and the meat selection looked really fresh. Lots of cool and interesting finds around the entire store. read more

This place is amazing. The meat counter is second-to-none, and their chorizo sends me into orbit. Hot sauce and seasoning selection are top notch, as well as staples like rice, tortillas, fruits, and veggies. Aisles are a little cramped, but it's a city grocery store, so that's common. Everything is incredibly clean and well-maintained. Meat counter and cashier workers are top notch. Friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable! While Honey Bee is a much needed market/grocery store for this community - the hidden food counter in the back corner is the gem of Honey Bee. their home made chips and salsa are to die for and are a necessity every time i come grab lunch from here. You can't go wrong with their guacamole either. For $5 everyday the back counter (the hidden gem) has a lunch special that is out of this world. I LOVE the B. I've been a lifelong customer for roughly forty years. Their lunch specials and hot food section is superb. The grocery store itself is kept immaculately clean. Produce is always fresh and organized. Great selection everywhere. Good customer service all around. Today was the exception for good service. Wednesday. July 26th. 630PM. I asked the produce guy for corn with husk on. He told me he couldn't do it and to come back tomorrow and ask. WTF, mate?! Every other time, I got my corn no problem. I used to work there, I know how bothersome pausing stacking tomatoes and going in back to grab some corn can be. But it's called customer service. Drove out of my way to their rivals to get my corn. But now I have happy little grillable corn, which is nice. I created a Yelp account simply to call out the lazy produce guy. I wanted to also give attention to how great the B really is for balance. Outstanding selection of fresh vegetables and meat, as well as packaged ingredients/condiments for Latin cooking. I only stopped in to look for some dried chili varieties that I have a hard time finding even at some Mexican markets. I found them, in the midst of many, many others. Then I turned around and saw I'd only been looking at the small bags! So many peppers to simmer, so little time.. Very easy to find with abundant on site-parking. Was tempted to try the take-out window but I came a little early for lunch. Picked up some housemade guac and salsa instead and both were excellent. Salsa veggie bites were very crisp. Great place for Latin American specialty groceries! This is my go-to when I need tomatillos, nopal, epazote, etc. They also have great fresh and frozen tamales (my favorite are the cheese and jalapeño ones). I will say that the prices are a little higher so this isn't my standard place for weekly supplies. read more

As if we didn't already love this place enough...Today I was in with my little cousins (to pick up the delicious premade enchiladas for the easiest dinner ever). One of them accidentally hit a tray, which tumbled to the ground and broke up onto the floor. I brought it up to the counter to pay for ($25...not a small amount!) and was told not to worry about it. I definitely expected to pay for it since it was entirely our fault, so I couldn't believe the customer service today. Thank you, Honey Bee! I enjoy browsing the aisles and discovering the premade dishes here. They oftentimes have guacamole or salsa with corn chips by the produce area. They sell cactus and every ingredient you could possibly need for whatever Latin inspired dish you are craving. They have a meat counter as well as a large section of cheese. This is a one stop shop for taco/fajita, burrito night at home or for a party. They have a decent dairy cooler on the back end of the store and have quite a few cash registers for their busy days. read more

After shopping I always have to buy 4 or 5 dozen freshly made Tamales. My family usually finishes off 2 before we even get home they are THAT good. Great place to buy groceries for Latin cooking. Their house made guacamole is excellent and their chips are as well. The produce has always been good quality and they have a very good selection. I stopped in earlier today and had some of their prepared food for lunch. They had the Steak a la Mexicana which came with tortillas, beans, and rice.
