As a culinary arts teacher, I used to rely on this market to source ingredients for my classes. Sadly, that ends today. I waited at the deli counter and was completely ignored while five other customers who arrived after me were served immediately. When I asked the manager why I wasn't being helped, I was told the staff was only helping Spanish speaking customers first because their English speaking employee was out. It is incredibly unprofessional to refuse service to a loyal customer based on language. The complete lack of customer service and the insulting excuse from management means I will never be back. I once proudly recommended this market to all my students, moving forward, I will be warning the local culinary community to avoid it entirely. read more

Los Arcos is a grocery store and taqueria combination. Most grocery store goods on the right side of the store, and the taqueria and meat counter separated out on the left. Burrito Al Pastor ($8.50) - This burrito includes lettuce, tomato, sour cream, onion, cilantro, avocado, and your choice of meat. I usually get carnitas, but Los Arcos Market doesn't have it, so I went with Al Pastor this time. I believe this is technically not al pastor and instead is adobada since I didn't see the meat on a spit. The marinade on the al pastor is a bit weaker than other places, not as many fruity notes as I normally expect. The meat does have a nice red layer on the exterior from the marinade. It's grilled on the flat top but didn't have that much crisp. The lettuce and tomato soaks into the tortilla and makes it soggy. Weight: 19oz. Not sure I would get this burrito again. Torta Cubana ($10.99) - The torta was much better than the burrito. Lettuce, tomato, jalapeno, avocado, and sour cream on top of a bunch of cheese and different meats. This sandwich was absolutely packed with meat, including a hot dog/sausage, two breaded fried chicken patties, ham, and egg. The fried chicken was kind of thin and tough and felt like they used older oil to fry them. They also added a bunch of cheese, resulting in a nice cheese stretch when pulling the sandwich apart. This was all on a bolilo that had a crisped exterior after being grilled, but fluffy on the inside. Los Arcos is certainly not a bad choice to pick up a quick meal but it wouldn't be my first choice in the area. read more

We go there literally every Taco Tuesday, and walk out with some of the best tacos and tostatas in the world for about $3.00 per person. A couple protocols to follow: Take-out only on Tuesday. Call your order in before you show up. If the line is busy or nobody answers, don't give up. Pay cash, or the restaurant will send you to the grocery store part to pay with a credit card. I have a soft spot for a really awesome taqueria. And this right here is an awesome Mercado and a taqueria at the same time. I usually come here for their tacos tho. Just because whenever I have a craving for mexican, I come here and I indulge myself in REAL AUTHENTIC MEXICAN tacos. Forget what you knew, this is the truth when it comes to tacos. I order the real stuff,, Tripas, Labio, Sesos and Lengua. I usually order only 3, but if I'm properly hungry, I get an order of cevice to share. Oh you don't like what I ordered, they do have chicken and beef for American taste buds. Still no??? Well there's a coney island on Southfield, I'm sure they'll serve you an order of chicken fingers and fried potato sticks with ranch dressing. Anyways, I love this place!! I go here for taco Tuesday and it's great! They have $1 (authentic) tacos on Tuesday. This place is always packed. Make sure to ask for grilled onions (and jalapenos) on the side! Like all the other Mexican markets around here, they do not serve drinks (or even water) in a cup. If you want a drink, they sell pop, tea, etc. out of a commercial refrigerator. Also, if you sit down at a table, you get complementary chips and salsa. The only complaint is the rice was served to us cold. Also once when we ordered grilled onions, they were also cold. I would prefer both the rice and onions to be warm, but it's not a big deal. They also have a nice selection of baked goods. It looks like all the Mexican markets around here get their baked goods from the same bakery, but I forgot the name. Finally, for all you Filipinos out there, they sell chicharron here! I never tried it because I don't like pork, but I know Filipinos love chicharron so wanted to mention it. So ever since discovering this place, I come often and food is usually consistent as far as tasting good. I have also ordered a lot of meat from the butchers whom are always nice and friendly and their meat is the bomb!! The problem I have....like I said I come here a lot, like once a week give or take, and no one has ever acted like they seen me before in their life. Im always asked the same question when I order the same tacos...I understand I could have changed my mind so whatever. But the main complaint I have is, when I come in and I see one specific cook *who makes tacos like he doesnt give a shit* looking and talking with servers saying who knows what with some smirks on their faces kind of annoys me. Happened on more than one occasion. I am always patient when times are slow, never complain if the tacos arent as good as they were the last time, always pleasant if I must say so myself. Just a word of advice, develop customer relationships, it is likely to increase a tip and continued business and dont start conversation good or bad to make your customer feel awkward!!!! read more
