Went here with a group of friends and there was a small incident but they made up for it. They service was really good and so were the food and drinks. The price was on the pricer side for the portion but it was well made so I am not going to complain. Honestly, the chips and dips were our fave. The chips were homemade and had so much crunch. There is plenty of street parking but it did take me some time to find one. The location is closer to Wayne state university and not it downtown.

Vecino is easily a must-visit in Detroit! Their modern take on Mexico City-inspired cuisine is incredible, especially with their focus on in-house nixtamalized heirloom corn. Beyond the food, the service is some of the best I've experienced very attentive and personalized. If you're looking for an elevated yet relaxed vibe in Midtown, this is it.

Visited this restaurant over the weekend with some friends and it was such a wonderful dinning experience. The restaurant is beautiful inside with cool vibes and great lighting and comfortable seating throughout. It was a last minute decision to do dinner here the restaurant was very accommodating getting us in for a last min reservation. The menu was definitely not what you would expect from a Mexican restaurant and was intimidating on what to order. We were very lucky to have a server who had excellent insight on the menu items and guided us in the right direction. The food was excellent but I would say for the price the portion size of some of the items was disappointing. I would go again but with the knowledge of exactly what to order. The fish and seafood dishes were the stars of the show. The muscles, the tuna tart and the snapper are well worth the visit. If seafood isnuyour jam and you are expecting traditional Mexican food this place might not be for you.

Really nice spot, but I just can't justify the prices... I think everything we ordered tasted good... the crudo, the tostada, pollo, pescado etc. there weren't any bad dishes... but I wasn't blown away nor full. The Tres Leches cake was in a raspberry milk, that was different and enjoyable. In all I can only recommend coming if you have money to blow, you could also pull up to the bar for drinks and the nice vibe, 4 drinks will get you to a nice little bill by themselves.

Highly recommend making a reservation. Very dim lighting and I found the atmosphere rather loud. Make sure you have a light for your table. The menu was a tad bit hard to see without the lamp. The chips & tortillas are made in house. The guacamole was perfect; topped with greens.. never had that before but I enjoyed it. The fish comes in 2 different sizes. We ordered the largest to share. It was perfectly cooked and had an amazing flavor. I love how they put 2 different sauces on each side.

I wanted so badly to really love this place but I was just...underwhelmed. Maybe my expectations were too high based on feedback I had received from other people that had been there but I was wasn't impressed, especially since it's on the costlier side. Nothing was bad. It just wasn't very memorable and I don't think the cost justifies the experience. The restaurant itself is cute and cozy, definitely giving date night vibes and the bathroom were cute as well. Parking was also a hassle since there isn't a dedicated lot or place to park. It's a really busy area and you have to fend for yourself with street parking. I definitely had to drive around for several rounds before I found someone coming out and could snag a spot a couple of blocks away. Everything combined, it's not somewhere I'd be rushing back to but that was just my experience.

This was my favorite new restaurant of 2025 in Detroit (I think also Restaurant of the Year, if I'm not mistaken). It's got an amazing interior and ambiance, incredible service, and the food is inspired and innovative. It's halal friendly, which is an added bonus. It's definitely meant for sharing, so I would recommend coming with a small group of friends to order a bunch of menu items. We ordered across the menu and shared everything as a group of 4 people. We ordered about six dishes total, with 4 of the smaller plates, one larger protein main, and a dessert. Highly recommend and can't wait to come back!

The overall vibe is good. If yelp allowed half stars I would give 3.5 because I feel the price is a bit high for the quality and level of service. Out of the dishes I tried, the pork belly and the tuna tostada were my favorite. The Papas con Rajas wasn't what I expected. I thought there would be more of a crispness to the potatoes. I really enjoyed the Strawberry Tres Leches; my partner said it was just okay.

The place is a vibe from the moment you walk through those heavy curtains. Our server Maricela was excellent and recommended the herbal spicy marg cocktail. My favorite dishes were the chicharron de pulpo and the divine tres leches with toasted coconut. Looking forward to coming back.

We've been twice now (after our first time, we booked to come back two weeks later so we could try more dishes) and Vecino is sooo good! Drinks are super interesting (I really love the "spicy margarita" which is called Picosa Verde), the El Clásico was pretty good but tasted too lime-y. You can order food at the bar also so it's an option if it's all booked up! The first time we went, we had the Sikil Pak which was only okay, it was a complex flavored dip maybe too salty (& they don't give you enough crudite) but they are happy to pack any leftovers, Tuna Tostada= delicious and the Fish=a favorite! So delicious! It's market price so yes, it can be $$$$ but you can't find anything in Michigan like it! I love Vecino! Service is excellent and the ambiance is great! I love this for Detroit!

There was a 2 top table at the back that we were seated at - we could have sat at the bar also - and it was a great spot. We ordered the tasting menu and WOW, every course was amazing. I'll post pics because the presentation was gorgeous for each item. They have a small cocktail and wine and beer selection, but that was fine. My son got their Shrub Mocktail and I got the Shrub with Sake. Both were delicious and so interesting. I can't pick a favorite item because they were all so good, but the Torched Mackerel and Poached Bosc Pear were tied for #1, followed by the Salmon, Oysters and the crazy good Blood Orange dessert. The shrimp toast was just ok for me, not bad, just not as good as everything else. Additionally the service was outstanding. For a tiny place they did everything right. They explained each course, brought out fresh utensils for every course - YEA! - and made sure we had good pacing. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and enhanced our meal. I really want to come back and try the oysters and some of the tinned items. I'm so excited I found Mink and will be back for sure.

If everything is as good as what we ordered this time, I can't wait to try more! Firstly, the natural lighting in here is just fantastic, and I really like the layout - you have a bit more space than some of the other downtown restaurants, and it's fairly quiet. Nice cozy booth seating as well as chairs. The gated parking lot is also a huge plus downtown and service was absolutely excellent. We came on a Sunday to try their all day happy hour, and it did not disappoint. $2 oysters meant that we ordered 2 dozen, and while the east coast varieties tend to be our favorite, their west coast selection was also top notch. Just lovely, salty, briny fresh oysters with a great mignonette. We also both ordered dirty martinis, and they're perfect for $8. We also had the focaccia which comes with this amazing tomato pesto - it tasted like pizza concentrated into a sauce. Yum! And the focaccia is perfect - the kind of bread that makes you remember why bread is so good. Pillowy and soft inside, toasted crispy outside; an amazing app. For dinner, we had the squid ink and seafood pasta, the wild striped bass and the lamb. Everything was absolutely so delicious and perfectly cooked. They split the pasta for us, which was very nice, and I just can't get over the delicious unique flavor of that dish. Outstanding. This pasta is the kind of pasta you want to order when you go out. Lots of yummy seafood, perfectly seasoned al dente pasta, savory sauce. The bass was the most perfectly cooked piece of fish I've had in a long time - crispy skin, tender moist flesh, buttery sauce. And lastly, I was super impressed with the lamb - it was tender yet crispy on the edges, savory and satisfying. If a seafood restaurant is doing lamb this well, I've got to see what else they have to offer. Can't wait to try the tasting menu. Even hubby was impressed and had zero complaints about anything, and he's tough to please. What a gem of a restaurant.

My first impression: Noisy! Lots of hard surfaces. Difficult to hear the hostess, server and my wife. The tables were appropriately spaced for diners and servers to work with no bump & grind. We started by sharing a dozen oysters and the pear/walnuts salad. The oysters were a bit small-ish; but otherwise, excellent. Server took a drink order from my wife, but skipped me. Eh? I flagged down another server to order a Pino. It took a surprisingly long time to arrive. On the plus side, I was offered a taste to insure it was satisfactory - it was. The pear salad w/walnuts was excellent. The pears were sliced paper-thin. One of the joys of eating a properly ripened pear is the juicy explosion and thinly sliced pears defeat the juicy explosion. If the pears were fully ripe, perhaps cube them? Weirdly; the two sides (mushrooms, potatoes) were served before the entrees. The server noticed, seemed surprised and withdrew the sides, returning with our entrees (lamb shoulder, steak). Then the side returned. Both entrees were warm-ish and the sides were hot. The 14-day, dry-aged steak was ordered medium-rare and was seasoned and prepared as ordered. Again; warm-ish, not hot. I expected better beefy flavor for a dry-aged steak. One end was a bit chewy. Tenderness improved as I got to the other end of the steak. I ordered it with horseradish. I will admit to being a weirdo who loves spicy horseradish (and wasabi) that will clean the sinuses - this was "Ohio-spice'd" horseradish ... not creamy, but less spicy than Arby's Horsey sauce. The mushroom and the potato sides were served hot from the kitchen. Both were excellent, no complaints. The presentation of the steak needs improvement. It was a properly prepared, lonely lump of brown, served on a white plate with cracked ceramic glaze. The lamb shoulder was the better entree. For some reason, my wife was expecting Middle Eastern seasoning. The menu did not mention Middle Eastern seasoning and she did not ask, so that's on her, not the kitchen. I thought it was excellent. Gripe: After the entrees arrived, our server did not return to ask if the entrees were satisfactory. She did return later to ask if we wanted a second round of drinks. We did ... We were offered dessert and ordered, but never asked if we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. Both desserts were excellent. Will we return? Probably ... not. With tip; dinner for two was $286. At this price point I expect better: Less noise, better beef and flawless service.

We had tried to use them in 2022, but were told the restaurant was small and could not accommodate our party of 8, even early on a Sunday. Fast forward 4 years! We made a reservation for a party of 4. It would've been nice to know the restaurant was on the second floor with no elevator, but perhaps that is my lack of inquiry. We were warmly greeted. Our server was absolutely fantastic! She made wonderful recommendations, and our meal was delicious! We had the crab dip, cornbread muffins, fried chicken and catfish entrees with yams and collard greens. Our family is from the South (KY, NC, TN, VA, MS, & AL) and we cook southern food on a regular basis. The yams were perfectly cooked and sweetened. The collard greens had just enough density, not runny or too salty. YUM!!! The chicken was tasty and moist. Catfish was seasoned and prepared perfectly and absolutely delicious also. Served with Frank's! We finished it off with the skillet cookie dessert, shared by all. A great way to end a really wonderful meal. The restaurant wasn't busy, so food service could've been a little faster, but we enjoyed a leisurely early dinner. My only other comment is that with glass top tables, you almost have to use Windex when tables turn over. The water streaks on all the glass top just make it look more like a greasy spoon or diner and does not do justice to the great service or the quality of the food. Lauren took great care of us and encouraged us to order whatever we were craving. Dangerous advice, but we happily accepted . Warning - the ratings are real. They're not a mistake. We started with our usual cocktail, the Instant Karma (5/5). It is the perfect balance of citrus and salt with a light cucumber note. Clean, refreshing, and it pairs well with everything. The roasted sweet potato (6/5) is one of the best vegetable dishes in the city. The caramelized exterior gives way to a soft interior, and the crispy quinoa adds a subtle light crunch that plays against the creamy texture. The salsa macha brings a smoky, nutty depth without the heat, and the crema ties it all together. I had to physically stop myself from scraping the plate (actually they had to take it away ). The tagliatelle (5/5) with beef bolognese and parmesan was flawless. The pasta has that ideal handmade chew, and the bolognese is rich without being heavy. The parmesan blends perfectly into the sauce and stands out in every bite. The potato pierogi (10/5) were the star of the night. Soft potato-filled pillows with horseradish crema, apple, and crispy shallot pieces create this perfect sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy bite. Each forkful felt intentional and balanced. I felt guilty, because in my head, I didn't want to share with my wife, but I did anyways . The cruelty of having to split an odd number of pierogis...well played...we should have just ordered another one. We also ordered the smoked potatoes and the pan roasted half chicken with sauce au poivre (always 5/5 for both) The smoked potatoes, with raclette, and crème fraîche, are always a must. These winter variation was just as good! The chicken remains one of the most consistently well-executed mains in the city. I have tried recreating it at home with the cold pan method and it never comes close. Every time we dine here, it feels like four or five different dinner experiences in one evening. Selden Standard continues to set the bar for us in Detroit. We love the staff, the food, and the memories tied to this place. Cheers to many more amazing years to come!

I would recommend all of them, but the standouts for me were the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Flavors were unique and textures were especially on point with those dishes. Service was good, but we both felt like it was slow. There was a slight glitch in the beginning of the night where the host stand didn't mark that we had checked in when we actually had, which probably contributed to the half hour wait at the bar. Aside from those points, it was an impeccable night!

First of all, the view of the Detroit River was very soothing and amazing!…read moreI'm sure residents of Detroit may find my statement weird or offsetting but I truly enjoyed the view. I had the sea bass and I must say, excellent!! The service alone was worth the price. Definitely 5-Star service in what I consider a 5-Star restaurant!

Just a fantastic dinner this evening with colleagues…read more Before the Detroit Pistons game, we got together for a nice, casual, seafood dinner as our own version of, "pregaming". Starting with the maître D, carried over to both the waitress and our table server, everyone was polite, courteous, and very attentive. Looking over the list of appetizers, we went with the calamari. About 10 minutes later, it showed up and as it turned out, the portion was good for the four of us. The calamari was not rubbery, but prepared exactly how you would want it. It has a bit of a kick to it, but not so much as to be overwhelming. Before the calamari they brought us a bread basket with four types of breads for us to dip into a bowl of delicious tasting sauce. Because this was a pregaming event, we had to include a cocktail with our dinner. Two of us went with a Woodford reserve old-fashion made to perfection. There's quite a few choices of entrées to choose from and being this is a seafood restaurant I went with the servers recommendation and chose the "Dover". As part of the experience, they fillet the fish right in front of you. A nice touch. The fish was out of this world good. Flaky white meat, with enough there to fill you up. Even with the filleting experience, they did miss a bone. But that happens. No problem. With a choice of sides I went with the steamed spinach. A rather small portion, but it was very good. For the price you would've expected more. Beautiful view of the water looking over towards Canada. If ever in town again, this is a place I would return to.
