My overall sense is that Carlos is fairly capable and experienced but either his team or him are not as careful as we had damages to our finished wood toe kicks and our lacquer cabinets looked like they had been dragged over nails as they were being assembled. I didn't appreciate that they made 0 mention of it at all and I had to point it out. As the homeowner, I essentially had to baby sit them for 5 days through the install since it felt like they were incapable / unwilling to read the kitchen cabinet installation instructions in detail and I caught several mistakes early on during the cabinet assembly that made me hesitant to leave it unattended. Carlos's attitude was particularly bad through the entire experience as well. Always made it seem like we were inconveniencing him or being too nit picky even if we caught some mistakes. At one point, he even threatened to quit after the assembly but before the installation simply because he had underestimated the complexity of the project. We did have a 1 day delay due to some plumbing / electrical issues but that's pretty typical as far as kitchen cabinet installations go AFAIK. In the end, they were able to get all the kitchen cabinets installed, albeit with a lot of effort from my end due to the more custom nature of the project. The price was affordable and the work was solid (minus the scratches) but for me the bad attitude wasn't worth it.

I sent him photos and within a few hours, he responded back with a quote, which was quite reasonable. We made an appointment for Saturday morning as we wanted to surprise our daughter with the vanity built for her birthday. My son was also excited that his desk was going to be assembled as he wanted someplace to study, as well as a place to sit and play online Roblox with his friends instead of the dining room table. Guilherme texted me 15 minutes before our appointment to say that they were running behind schedule and would be at our home 20 minutes later than our scheduled appointment. I appreciated his communication with me that they were going to be late. When Guilherme arrived, he was accompanied by Isabella (who I learned was his fiancée who works with him). They were very friendly, and both went right to work on assembling the two items. Genuinely disappointed at the overall experience with Handy Buddies. We hired them to do some touch…read moreup work on the walls of the home we just purchased. There were various nail holes and some dents here and there that we wanted to fix, as well as repainting of several of the baseboards as they were all scuffed up. Additionally, we needed them to patch and repaint the inside of all of the bedroom closets, as they were in desperate need of some TLC. We were originally quoted in the $700ish range for the full job, but the final cost when they were done came out to $960 instead. This was cited to be due to increased material cost, which would be fine if the original quote was more along the lines of X for labor + estimate for materials rather than here is the total price. They did provide receipts to justify the increase material price at least, which was somewhat appreciated. But we did not appreciate the significant underquoting. Additionally, they wound up showing up late on the day of the job citing the reasoning was due to a prior job running over. We had originally scheduled to meet them at the house at 11:30am, but they did not arrive until closer to 2pm. We didn't initially fault them for this, as we understand sometimes some jobs wind up hitting unexpected delays. But unfortunately, this was not the end of undelivered expectations from Handy Buddies. The team used spray paint to paint over the baseboards in the home, and only used a small piece of cardboard to block mist splatter. This obviously was insufficient and left a ton of white mist all over our hardwood floors. Additionally, they did not paint any of the baseboards inside the closet, claiming there was dirt. As well as doing a rather lackluster job on the inside closet walls. As we still saw some nail holes left over. And the section of the closet wall that tucks in was also poorly painted, with only 1 thin coat that still had the previous color peeking through. Additionally, many sections of that part of the wall for the closets were missed, as we still saw old handprints and scuff marks that we wound up fixing ourselves. Babek scheduled time to come back in two days to put our custom closet shelving units for all of the closets back up as they needed to wait for the paint to dry first. This was fine except: 1) Babek scheduled to come back at 2pm. Instead, he messages the morning of at 8am that he's heading over and will be there at 9am. Keep in mind that noone was living at the property at the time so our in-laws scrambled from Sacramento (2hr drive away) to get down there in time with almost no notice. Babek never asked before hand if a time change was appropriate. He simply messaged assuming someone would already be at the property and it was perfectly fine to show up 5hrs earlier. 2) Noone on Babek's team thought to take a picture of the custom closets PRIOR to dismantling them. He spent the entire time he was over trying to figure out (unsuccessfully) how to put them back together. Additionally, he stated he forgot to bring out the necessary tool to fix our floors that still had spray paint splatter and would message us the next day to schedule time to come back out to fix it. This never materialized, and instead he simply ghosted us.

More details: I hired Selim to install a Murphy bed. The first issue was that he didn't pay attention to the bed's dimensions ahead of time. As soon as he arrived, he increased the price and repeatedly commented that he would have brought another person if he had known the correct size (when the issue was simply a lack of attention beforehand). He wasn't able to complete the job properly. The bed wouldn't close, and he couldn't identify the problem, leaving me to troubleshoot it myself. I spent hours trying to fix it and eventually noticed missing screws and other signs of inappropriate installation. In the end, I still had to pay the full price and then hire someone else to redo the same job correctly (paying twice for the same service). I asked for a 50% refund, but he refunded less than 15%. I honestly felt bad because he seems like a genuinely nice person. However, I lost a significant amount of money, time, and dealt with a lot of unnecessary stress. This was a job I paid for specifically to make things easier, not harder.

The main TV was going over an original brick fireplace, and I chose a pull-down mount, which requires much more precision and skill than a standard TV mount. I'm the daughter of a long line of carpenters, so I tend to notice how someone approaches their work. From the moment Jay arrived, I could tell he was extremely knowledgeable and skilled. He took the time to prepare properly, worked confidently and carefully, and I could immediately relax knowing that everything was going to be mounted securely and correctly. Watching someone who truly knows what they're doing is such a pleasure. He was also incredibly clean and respectful of my home. His wife worked alongside him throughout the installation, and the two of them were exceptionally efficient without ever making the work feel rushed. He was also wonderfully resourceful. I had planned to purchase a separate bracket for my soundbar, but he found an elegant way to attach it using the existing TV mount, saving me about $90 while actually giving me a cleaner-looking installation. I really appreciated that he wasn't just there to install things -- he was thinking about the best solution for my setup.
