But walk through that door and its like the Tardis from Dr. Who. The store really opens up into multiple rooms each with their own treasures to be found. Then out back there is a garde. And green house. They have chili pepper plants the likes of which I don't think I will ever see again! I swear the jalapeno plant was nearly as tall as me. And that is not an exaggeration. It was massive. Like a spicy tree. It was seriously impressive. Anyhow, there was also a "volunteer" plant just outside the back door that had tiny red peppers on it. Nobody seemed to know the variety but said they were too too hot. Maybe Tobasco peppers they thought. I started talking to them about my own home garden and how I struggle with tomato and pepper blossoms not sticking around long enough to produce fruit. They told me about something called "Blossom Set." I would have bought some there but it was greater than 3 ounces and I had to fly home. What I did buy was a bottle of scuppernong juice. Funny name for a native grape with a delicious flavor. A little more tart than standard grapes. I had been wanting to try scuppernongs and that did the trick. My only regret here is that I don't live anywhere near Renfrow's and could not biy as much I really wanted to. If I was a local, this would likely me a regular stop on my weekend errands.

I found out about TPB online and I really liked the concept of being able to choose what you'd like weekly, and I didn't really want to buy into a CSA. TPB hand-delivers your items, and they have a nice variety of produce, fruits, meats and even different sweets and snacks you can add to your boxes. The very first box my mom received was decent (note: you have to provide your own box)... except it was missing an item, and the quality of one bunch of fruit was poor/damaged. She informed TPB about her damaged fruit and also about the missing item, and they said they would get back to her about it. I definitely understand that mistakes happen, and items are overlooked... so I didn't see this as a big deal. I'm thinking TPB would at the least just include the missing item (or a reasonable equivalent) in the next weeks box, let her know... and problem solved. Nah... A few days passed with no follow up. So I shot out a quick e-mail, and I received a response back the same day letting me know they would look into it. Cool. However, a few more days passed with no follow up! Nah... Meanwhile, my mom received her next weeks box, which was fine. Problem is she is still sans the missing item from the first delivery, and she still has no idea when or if TPB plans to resolve the problem. I'm someone who believes customer service is equally, if not more important than the product received. I want to have my concerns or problems quickly addressed and handled... especially if I'm a new customer! Most memorable to me are the businesses who not only want to make sure you are completely satisfied, but actually follow up and quickly resolve your concerns. To this day, I still haven't heard back from TPB about the missing item. I shouldn't have to contact a business more than once, let alone twice... to get what I paid for. I have cancelled my membership. Mom wasn't happy about it, but she knows how I feel about spending my money on products offered from companies with bad customer service. Now Yelp knows too haha. Some are necessary evils, others aren't. I may have 99 problems, but TPB ain't one...

However, it's become harder and harder to get to the market on Saturday morning and frequently the best produce is picked over by the early birds! Enter The Produce Box - I'd read a story about this company in Raleigh and was very excited when they expanded to Charlotte! I signed up as soon as they opened here and it was a wonderful decision! Each week I get an amazing box of fresh, organic, local produce - beautiful greens, crisp apples, squash, kohlrabi, the list goes on and on. It's basically a CSA that delivers to you, with the added convenience of online ordering so that you control what you get! I've gotten rave reviews from friends about how good my salads look at work, and I just used some of the spinach for a community dinner that my neighbors loved! They even include a weekly newsletter that explains how best to take care of your goodies and cook them (in case you don't know!) I recommend The Produce Box to anyone who wants fresh, seasonal produce delivered with a smile each week!

They also had tons of fresh, local strawberries. The employees were friendly, and they do a good job maintaining their produce: none of it had that sad, wilted look that grocery-store stock often has. I'm withholding the fourth star just because a lot of their offerings were imported from far-away lands. I found this somewhat surprising, given the nature and location of their business. However, if the ratio of imports-to-local changes as the growing season continues, I will certainly revise my rating.

She ordered bees using their recommended 2-day shipping, and the package never arrived. When she reached out to the owner, Trish, the response was that she could send more bees--but only if we paid the shipping again, this time overnight. She also said they don't refund shipping for lost packages. When my wife pushed back--reasonably, since nothing was ever delivered--Trish stopped responding. There's nothing on their website that clearly states customers have to eat the cost when a package is lost. My wife only got her refund because the credit card company intervened, not because the business did the right thing. Months later, when Trish became a moderator for a Lyme disease forum and learning I was a member, she removed me and my wife to retaliate and harm us. From my perspective, this was petty and shameful, since my wife had relied on that community for support. Fortunately, my wife was at the end of her treatment so Trish's spiteful action was for naught. After this experience, it's clear there are far better and more professional places to buy bees. I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

They deliver the produce in a reusable bag on my doorstep. They are SO communicative. Each week, they post what is coming for that week so you have an idea of what to expect. You can fill out a 'do not send' list online if there is anything you don't like, and you can update it at any time. They also have fresh eggs you can add, as well as other add ons from local companies. You can change your preferences at any time, including how frequently they come (weekly, bi-weekly or monthly). All the produce is organic and it's all been delicious! It lasts so long as well. If you have an issue with something being fresh, their costumer service is great. The portion sizes are great as well. I've been very pleased and would highly recommend their delivery service!

Bright pink walls shined through the windows and we were treated with kindness immediately when walking in. Seeing hand warmers for sale was a big relief because we were very cold. There was a younger guy working with dark hair that was cheerful and eager to learn how to help us. He spoke to each of us with joy and asked us if we were enjoying the lights because he had never been himself. He gave us samples of toffee and offered to show us how the crane machine worked before he became busy. He helped me ring up a candy toy. Thank you guys! We will be back.

Really enjoyed the variety of nostalgic sweets and more unique candies. The store itself is quite small if you are used to larger stores like ItsSugar! But they still were able to maintain a lot of diversity and have a cute photo spot in the corner, making this a fun destination store to check out. The prices felt fair and the cashier was very kind. I ended up getting a bag with strawberry banana and grapefruit gummy bears with a few pickle flavored sour strips! All were pretty delicious.
